Chapter 2: Fire and Sand
The man dropped, spitting blood, and the girl doesn't take her golden angry eyes away from Gaara, who grinned crazed at the challenge, hardly moving as his sand darted toward her.
She was gone in a flicker, embers left in her wake.
He could sense her magic and turned just in time to watch as a burning hand reached for his throat.
He gasped as nails dug past the sand armor; he felt them scratch.
Sand threw her back with a deep gash on her arm as a reward. She doesn't break eye contact as she seared the wound shut.
