(A/N): Everyone's reaction to Leo revealing that Dahrya is Greygorry's daughter. There's gonna be a special chapter tomorrow, so keep an eye out!
Lisbet
What?!
Everyone was completely silent for a minute, as we were all trying to take that in, and trying to figure out whether Leo could possibly be joking, or maybe lying- but no. Leo would never say something like that unless he believed it to be true.
"So, uh..." We all turned our attention to Danniel, as he spoke up. "I'm gonna go ahead and head out." We continued to stare at him, blankly, before Leo broke the silence- being the only one not affected by his own shell shocking declaration.
"Okay! Have fun explaining everything to Jo!" Danniel blinked- at least he was getting punished for trying to take the easy way out. Technically speaking, none of this had anything to do with him, but Greygorry was part of the clan now, and Leo definitely was, so Danniel leaving at a moment like this could almost be considered... cowardly. Him having to deal with Jo, however, could not.
"Fuck." He uttered, just as he disapparated, and I realised a moment too late why Leo was watching me expectantly.
"You didn't hear that." I told him, and he grinned, covering his ears for a second, before dropping his hands back to his side.
"Didn't hear what?" Even if his ears had been covered, he would have heard it- even from miles away, he would have heard it. It was pointless, but still, I appreciated the sentiment of him pretending, solely for my benefit. He dropped a hand onto Greygorry's chest, and the older vampire's body jerked- whether that was just because he was shocked by the action, or the movement was rougher than it had looked, I didn't know. "How ya doin', bud?" It sounded more like something I would say to Leo, than something I expected Leo to say to Greygorry- but maybe that's why he said it.
"I- I punched my daughter in the face." I sucked in a breath, worried about what Leo's reaction to that would be, but instead of anything else, he just burst out laughing.
"And now you know why it made you feel bad- and why I took over her training." Her training? What training? Greygorry blinked, clearly surprised.
"You knew? Back then- You knew? You've known for that long?" Leo shrugged.
"It's only been a few months." Obviously, Greygorry didn't think it was quite as inconsequential as Leo made it seem.
"And you didn't think to- Does she know?" I had assumed, when Leo had asked whether Sidonie knew about her, that she must also be like Leo- or, part vampire, anyway- and Leo revealing that Greygorry was her father only confirmed that- but if the girl- Dahrya- didn't know that he was her father...
"As far as I can tell, no. I did ask if you two knew each other, and you both told me you didn't. I... I wasn't sure whether I should say anything, and even if I did... whether I should tell one, or both of you. And then... well, I had other things going on." That was an understatement, apparently. Greygorry was quiet for a minute, and Leo seemed to hesitate. "Do you want to know-? I mean, I could tell you her last-" Greygorry cut him off, speaking quietly when he did so.
"Jeyms." Leo jolted, and I knew that Greygorry was correct.
"Wait," Jerremyah piped up from behind us. "Is that-? That isn't-" Greygorry nodded, almost solemnly, and Leo seemed confused- but there was only one person- at least, one person who could birth a child- that might make Greygorry react that way.
"She's Lavinia's?" Leo looked at me like I was speaking a different language- one he couldn't understand this time.
"Um... who's Lavinia? Other than Dahrya's mother, apparently?" I gestured to Greygorry.
"Lavinia was a... romantic partner, of Grey's. She knew what he was, and accepted it." Although, thinking back on Greygorry's pointed challenge, maybe she hadn't been quite as accepting of it as she could have been. "What ever happened with you two, anyway?" Greygorry and Jerremyah shared a look, and I knew I wasn't going to like the answer.
"Sidonie called me back to France," Right... "I told Lavinia that I would come back to her, when Sidonie was done with me." Even Leo seemed to take note of Greygorry's change in tone when referring to his Mistress. After all, one of the few times I had seen Greygorry anything other than all tangled up in Sidonie's web, was when he had been wrapped up in Lavinia, instead. "And then... things happened." 'Things'? Greygorry glanced at Jerremyah, and I realised what he was saying.
"You never went back to Lavinia... because of us?" Leo looked even more confused than before.
"Wait, what? So you just... left?" Greygorry hesitated, then shook his head.
"I sent her a letter, explaining things, but... she never wrote back." I felt bad- I hadn't even known he had sent the letter- didn't know he had any reason to. I truly hadn't considered what had happened to Lavinia or their relationship. It wasn't like Greygorry sleeping with Jerremyah or I hadn't been on the table while they were together, so it hadn't crossed my mind that they had parted- just because he was intimate with both of us.
"Gee, I wonder why." Leo said, and Greygorry's eyebrows furrowed.
"What? What do you mean?" Leo crossed his arms over his chest.
"Oh, I don't know- probably that she was carrying your child, and you told her you weren't coming back- what was she supposed to say, at that point?" Greygorry looked like he took offense to that, but there wasn't much he could do about it, considering that he could barely move his body below the neck.
"It was supposed to be temporary-" Leo cut him off.
"Twelve years isn't temporary, Greygorry- not to a human. And I want you to consider that maybe there was a reason she clearly didn't tell Dahrya about you." Oof, that was a low blow- and one I wouldn't expect Leo to be the one to deliver. Greygorry's body flopped uselessly, like he was trying to rise to square up to Leo but couldn't- because Leo had already squared up to him.
"Don't you dare-" Herc moved past me as Greygorry tried to protest, and laid a hand on Leo's shoulder.
"Leo." His voice was quiet- steady. It made Leo draw in a breath, in an attempt to calm himself. "Give him a chance." It dawned on me then that this wasn't about Greygorry, or Lavinia, or even Dahrya- this was about Nicholai, and Herc, and the other children Nicholai hadn't been there for- when he had decided to be there for Leo, for seemingly no discernible reason.
"Fine." Leo said, with a sigh. "What are you going to do about this?" As Greygorry took a minute to consider it, I felt my body tense. If he didn't pick the right choice, it wasn't just his physical health that would suffer- and I was much more concerned for what it would do to Leo's mental health, if he watched another vampire father abandon his half-vampire child.
"You said you were trying to figure out whether you should tell her- now that you've told me, I fear it would be wrong of us to not tell her. I don't know her that well, but, I would assume that she wouldn't take kindly to that sort of thing being kept from her." Leo glared at him.
"And it's my job to tell her? Way to take some responsibility, man." Greygorry rolled his eyes at him.
"I figured that, considering that the last time we met, she was wary of even being alone in the same room as me, she might take it better coming from you." Leo hesitated, and I didn't like the look on his face- a cautious, and almost... dreading look.
"And you don't want to... to try to improve her opinion of you, before I tell her?" Oh. Oh, Leo. Apparently, Greygorry was just as concerned by that question as I was, because his expression softened.
"...No. No, if her opinion of me is going to improve, I'm not going to do it with subterfuge." Leo was still for a second, before he nodded, rather slowly- as if he hadn't been expecting Greygorry to take that stance.
"Alright. Alright, when I get back to Hogwarts, I'll tell her."
(A/N): Leo: 'You don't want to lie to her and pretend you don't know that you're her father in order to manipulate her into liking you more before you reveal it?'
Everyone else: *horrified*
Leo: *oblivious* (as always)
also
Leo: *not knowing what to say to try to comfort Greygorry*
Leo: *goes to the main thing he knows people have tried to comfort him with in the past*
Leo: 'Bud'
Lisbet: 'Is that- did I do that?'
Also, just so you know, I looked it up, because I thought that Lisbet had called Leo 'bud' or 'buddy' a lot more than I've actually shown her do, and it's almost surprisingly close as to who gets called it more- Leo, mainly by Lisbet, but also by Elaine once or twice, and Lawrence (by Leo, actually). So, Leo gets called 'bud', and immediately turns around and calls Elaine's owl the same thing.
Elaine calls Leo 'buddy' in Chapter 9, Leo calls Lawrence 'buddy' in Chapter 99 and 102, Nicholai calls Leo 'buddy' in 193, Leo calls Sirius 'buddy' in 259 (when he's in animagus form). Lisbet calls Leo 'bud' in 289, Elaine calls Leo 'bud' in 299 while reading out his letter, Leo calls Lawrence 'bud' in 307, Lisbet calls Leo 'bud' in 308, when she tells him it's up to him to name Charlie, Lisbet calls Leo bud in 330. 'Parce' can also mean 'buddy', so technically Herc might have called him something similar a couple of times too, but to me, Herc using 'Parce' is a toss up between him calling Leo 'bro' and 'buddy'.
