(A/N): We're back with Evie, in 1966. The reaction to Khal's prediction for Nicholai. I wrote two chapters today, which will be 391 and 292.

Evie

January 16th, 1966

Well that... sounded like an awful choice to be presented with. Nicholai's face was dark- and dare I say it, stormy? Greygorry dropped a hand onto his shoulder, and he jumped, but otherwise didn't react.

"Well. That fucking sucks- pardon my French." He held up a hand to me, as if he was apologizing to me, directly.

"How does one say 'fuck' in French?" He blinked- and then his face split into the biggest grin I had seen on him, so far. It wasn't exactly what most people would typically consider 'attractive', per se, but it made him look more approachable. Like he was someone you could laugh with- preferably during sex.

"There's a couple ways to say it, depending on your meaning. 'Putain', for an exclamation or interjection, or 'baiser', as the slang for sexual intercourse. There's many other ways, but those are the main two." I tilted my head, considering this.

"It sounds a lot fancier in French- do you get a lot of women with that play?" His grin turned into a smirk.

"One or two. It's not as impressive to them when they speak it, too." I felt the corner of my lips quirk up, and Jerremyah huffed out a laugh.

"You mean, when they can understand how shite your dirty talk is." Grey faux glared at him, before he dropped the act, and just grinned.

"Better than yours, Old Chap." That... hm. Actually, that made me curious.

"Can I ask-?" They both turned to me. "What- who's- how old is everyone?" Jerremyah and Grey shared a look, and then Jerremyah glanced around the room at the others, before he aimed his dimples at me.

"Why don't we go from youngest to oldest, giving our birth year? Evie, you're first." I blinked- right, of course!

"Um, I- I'm Evie, I'm twenty-four, and I was born in 1942." Jerremyah put his head down, like he was trying to hide the fact that he was fighting not to laugh- or at least, to hide the fact that he was laughing. "What? Why are you laughing?" He shook his head, and waved me off, but when I looked around, the others were all smiling as well- other than Nicholai, who was clearly still distracted by the prediction he had been given.

"Right, guess I'm next." Minsi faux grumbled, even though she was still openly observing everything with a fondly amused look on her face. "I'm Minsi, I'm sixty-four, and I was born in 1902." Oh. Now that she said it, it did sound kind of dumb.

"I shouldn't have said my name like we were doing ice breakers at summer camp, should I?" Grey shrugged, looking like he was trying to restrain his smile.

"No, it was great. You did great." He nudged Nicholai, who jolted, and glanced at him like he was something incredibly peculiar. "Nick- introduce yourself. Name, age and birth year." Nicholai clearly hadn't been listening, because he looked painfully confused, but anyway, he shrugged.

"Nicholai Elijas Ellwood, two hundred and twenty-two, 1743. September, 1743." He flashed Grey a look, as if to check if he had done it right, and the other man gave him a reassuring smile. I- it was shocking to me, that Nicholai was the youngest vampire in the room. Next, Lisbet spoke up.

"I'm Lisbet Layla Morsol Yates, I'm three hundred and thirty-four, and I was born June, 1631." At this point, I couldn't tell if they were making fun of me or not. Well... they were definitely making fun of me, but I didn't think they were doing it maliciously. Lisbet, at least, also seemed to be making fun of Nicholai, even if he didn't know it. "Grey?" Grey? Grey was next? That was- that was almost as surprising as finding out that Nicholai was the youngest.

"Greygorry Morell Chant, three hundred and seventy-two, and I was born January 16th, 1594." For a split second, I was confused about why he had felt the need to announce his birth date, before I realised.

"It's your birthday?!" The room froze, before suddenly, everything exploded into action. There was a cacophony of 'happy birthday's, but I was mostly just focused on the fact that Jerremyah had thrown himself at Grey- rocking him back on his heels with the force of his momentum, but thankfully, not knocking him over. He had his arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him to his body firmly, and I barely managed to hear Grey huff out a laugh.

"Alright, alright, I accept your apology." Jerremyah started rubbing his face- and head in general- on Grey's head and neck, and Grey chuckled again, before echoing the movement. This sort of rubbing almost felt indecent for me to watch, but I figured, since Lisbet was still beside me, watching them rather happily, it was, as Grey had said, 'alright'.

Nicholai briefly patted Grey on the shoulder, and Grey flashed him another smile. Jerremyah didn't exactly flinch away from the outside interference, but he did seem to intentionally try to stick to rubbing himself on the side of Grey's body that Nicholai wasn't in contact with- he probably didn't want to risk accidentally rubbing his face on Nicholai's hand.

"I always forget that your birthday is the day after our anniversary." Lisbet said, and Grey huffed out another laugh.

"I always forget that your anniversary is the day before my birthday." Lisbet shook her head at this, clearly amused, and I saw Jerremyah shrug against Grey's own body.

"You're not the only one who forgot our anniversary." He said, casting a look over his shoulder at Nuria, who crossed her arms over her chest, now that she no longer felt like she had to support Khal- who was watching everything with a sort of detached interest.

"I didn't forget it, it was still the day of- barely, but still! And that wasn't even my fault- Minsi was meant to remind me, and she forgot." Minsi shot her a dark look.

"I'm old- maybe not as old as you lot, but you don't physically age. My brain is a little haggard, and I'm sure the monthly expedition to howl at the moon doesn't help. You vampires are just scatterbrained in general." Nuria frowned, but Khal laughed, looking a little brighter with each passing minute.

"That's one way to put it," He said. "I'd say the prophecies don't help, but I don't think that contributes as much as I would like to pretend it does." Lisbet's eyebrows furrowed, and she hesitated for a second, but Khal turned to her, the corner of his lips quirking up. "Yes, Lisbet? Did you have a question for me?" He looked like he was aiming for smug, but fell short, and Jerremyah's head shot up.

"I... I'm not sure if I should." She met Jerremyah's eyes as he twisted his head around- she looked pained, and he looked panicked. Khal, however, was calm, and simply shrugged.

"It's going to happen anyway- me telling you won't change anything. You're already on the path, I'm just lighting the way." That sounded reassuring, but I had the distinct feeling that some paths were meant to be kept in the dark.

"I'm not..." She trailed off. "I'm not avoiding it for my benefit." She glanced at Jerremyah again, and he maintained that contact for a second, before he lowered his gaze.

"It's your prediction, not his." Minsi said judiciously, but Lisbet's frown deepened.

"But any prediction about me, will have him in it." Unless it didn't... Jerremyah let out a sharp sigh, even as he burrowed further into Grey's arms, as if for comfort. Grey, for his part, was petting Jerremyah's hair, like he was the softest puppy at puppy camp.

"If you want to hear it, you shouldn't let me stop you." Lisbet's frown didn't dissipate, but her face did get softer, as if touched by Jerremyah's acceptance of her choice, even if he didn't like it.

"I just don't want to make you hear something you can't unhear." They stared at each other, and I thought maybe they were having a silent, mental conversation.

"He could always just leave." Minsi suggested, and Jerremyah shook his head, rather vehemently.

"Never." She rolled her eyes at his growl, and sighed exasperatedly.

"Not permanently, you... pillock. You could just go into the other room, and we'll cast a silencing charm- it's not that big of a deal." He pursed his lips, and Grey pressed a kiss to his cheek- which made his lips quirk up slightly, clearly involuntarily, before they settled back into their dismayed protrusion.

"It- that would work, but..." He met Lisbet's eyes again. "I want to be here with her- I want to be by her side, when she hears it. In case she needs me." Lisbet's face softened, melting like snow in an oven.

"I always need you." Aw... Grey released Jerremyah, so he could lope over to where Lisbet sat next to me, and perched himself on the arm of the couch beside her. His thigh slid off, to rest half next to, half on top of her closest thigh, and he let his arm hang down, so he could lay it across her shoulders- and then, she lifted her arm, so she could take his hand in hers. "Hit me, O Great Seer." Khal's lips quirked up- and then, a second after his eyes turned milky, they descended once more. Uh oh, that wasn't a good sign.

"You will have to make the hardest decision of your life-" I think we were all a bit apprehensive about that, considering what Khal had told Nicholai about his own upcoming choice. "-but... doing so will make you stronger, in the end." At least that implied that the decision wouldn't result in her death- not right away, anyway. "You'll find what you're looking for in the most unexpected of places-" In the arms of a demigod? "-and despite your hesitance to claim your role, you will be exactly what is needed." Her role? Unfortunately, as always, it seemed, Khal's predictions left us with a plethora of questions.

"What..." Jerremyah started, and I tried to fill in the blanks. What does that mean? What are you on about? What sort of decision? "What are you looking for?" His question was clearly meant for Lisbet, but he was just as clearly avoiding looking at her- even as he caressed her hand.

"Nothing." She said, a bit too quickly. "I mean... I don't think I'm looking for anything. Maybe it's a future thing?" She continued, looking just as confused as Jerremyah did. Khal shook his head, crossing his arms over his chest, and flashed her a small smile- which looked suspiciously like he was trying to offer her reassurance, because there was no actual reason to smile- which was endlessly concerning.

"Nope." He said. "Not in the future- not even just current. You've been looking for this for a long time." As Lisbet frowned, obviously only more confused now, I took note of the fact that Khal's eyes- which had been milky white for the actual prediction, had returned to their regular appearance sometime between the end of it, and when he had begun to address this. Either he was bullshitting- like before, with the demigods being real, thing- or this was something that he didn't need his seer powers for. "It's something you've both been looking for." They shared a look, but I don't think either of them got much out of it.

"I..." Jerremyah hesitated, looking like he'd rather be just about anywhere else right now. "I think I should hear mine." Lisbet turned to him, and removed her other hand from my arm, to cover his hand with both of hers, now.

"You don't have to do that-" She started, softly, and he cut her off, just as softly.

"It's the only way we might get answers- though I wouldn't hold my breath. I... I don't mind." She gave him a stern look, and he flushed slightly at being called out. "That much- I don't mind it that much." They stared into each others eyes for a minute, as if she were searching his very soul, before she leaned in close, and pressed a kiss to the corner of his mouth.

"Thank you." She told him quietly, almost managing to drown out his pleased hum- which seemed involuntarily, considering that he still looked nervous.

"Anything for you." And I think we all knew that he was very serious about that. He turned back to Khal- whose eyes already had a white cast to them. "I- go for it, I guess." He said, swallowing thickly, and Lisbet rubbed his arm in a comforting manner.

"You will get everything you've ever wanted out of life." Jerremyah's frown was replaced with a very tentative smile. "But," That smile fell immediately. "Things have to fall apart, before they get better." Was that referencing the fact that they were having difficulties?

"Well..." Jerremyah said, a few seconds after Khal's eyes returned to normal. "That sounds... promising." Not. "That doesn't answer our question though. What have we both been looking for, for a long time?" They thought about this for a second, before something in Jerremyah's face changed- reluctantly hopeful. It took a few more seconds, but then, Lisbet's eyes widened, her mouth dropped open, and her eyebrows shot up.

"You don't think-" She cut herself off, as he nodded weakly, and they both took a second, just to look shell-shocked. "A kit?" She asked, sounding like she couldn't believe it- believe her luck. Jerremyah, to his credit, somehow looked even more shocked than she did.

"A kit." He echoed, slightly breathless, and I was left with two questions.

Number one- what the hell was a kit? And number two- why did the mere mention of it, affect both Lisbet and Jerremyah- but particularly Jerremyah- so strongly?

(A/N): Nicholai: *gets the news that he's going to die, and he basically has to pick the method*

Greygorry: 'Well. That fucking sucks- pardon my French.' *apologises specifically to Evie for swearing*

Evie: 'How DOES one say 'fuck' in French?'

also

Evie: 'I'm Evie, I'm twenty-four, and I've got a basketball game tomorrow!'

also

Lisbet and Jerremyah: *teary eyed* 'A kit?.?'

Evie: 'What the hell is a kit?'

Translations (French):

Putain = Fuck (interjection/exclamation). Technically, it was originally used to mean 'whore/prostitute', but that usage is apparently considered rather old fashioned nowadays. 'Pute' is more commonly used to mean that, especially if the intention is to be vulgar or insulting, but if neutral, the word 'prostituée' is used.

Baiser = Fuck (sexual intercourse). It used to exclusively mean 'kiss', but morphed to mean 'to fuck/to have sex with'. Someone said the usage was about 99% 'fuck', 1% 'kiss', so... I also used it in Chapter 230 (Red As Wine).

Also, I literally didn't realise that it was Greygorry's birthday until I was going through trying to calculate their ages for the 'icebreakers' thing. I completely forgot that I made his birthday the 16th of January, and because of that, Lisbet and Jerremyah's anniversary is the day before his birthday. I thought it made it even funnier that Grey forgot their anniversary, when it is SUCH a memorable date.

The 'softest puppy at puppy camp' thing is a reference to Kristin Chirico quote, from back when she used to work for Buzzfeed. I've sort of used it before, as Elaine saying Leo looked like 'the most adorable puppy at puppy camp' when he tilted his head to the side in Chapter 282 (You Know I Can't Say No). I can't find the actual quote via google, and I don't feel like going back through all of the old Buzzfeed videos for it, but that's definitely where it's from.

The 'I've got a basketball game tomorrow' is technically from an old Vine video, where a kid named Trey says, 'Hi, my name is Trey, I have a basketball game tomorrow!', but the reason I know it, and I'm guessing a reason a lot of people know it, is because Jenna Marbles used to quote it a lot.
