Slumber Party
"Batman doesn't do slumber parties," Bruce stated as he studied the files that he'd pulled up on his computer screens. He was only half paying attention to his wife and they both knew it.
Diana folded her arms against her chest, not about to back down on this one. "It's not Batman who is having a slumber party," she pointed out. "It's Nicholas and Kaia…your children."
"Yes, but you want me to help with the party," he astutely determined.
"Yes, because it's going to be fun," she replied. "Didn't you have sleepovers or slumber parties when you were a kid?"
"No," he firmly stated. "I didn't have a childhood, remember? My parents were murdered."
"Bruce, you can't use that excuse every time something comes up you don't want to be a part of," Diana chided him.
"It's always worked before."
"You were a child for eight years before you lost them," she pointed out. "You must have had a childhood friend spend the night at least once in your life."
"Not once," he maintained, a thought crossing his mind that gave him pause. He turned to look at her. "Did you have slumber parties on Themyscira?"
"Bruce," Diana uttered with a frown. "I was the only child on Themyscira, remember?"
"Oh, right," he murmured, turning his attention back to his work. "If Nicholas and Kaia want to have a slumber party, it is fine with me. I think it would be fun for them…"
"Thank you!" Diana exclaimed, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing his cheek.
"…but I won't help with it," he finished, causing Diana to halt her attempt at a second, more intimate kiss.
"Why not?" she demanded to know, pulling away from him with a dangerous glare.
"I'm in the middle of a big case, remember?" he said. "I need to find out who is smuggling military-grade weapons into Gotham."
"Well, the slumber party will be next weekend," she revealed, hooking a curl behind her ear. "You have till then to solve your case so you can help out."
"Diana…"
"It'll be good for you to experience your first slumber party," she assured him.
Bruce's forehead creased with the frown that formed on his face. "With kids under the age of six?"
"Why not?" she asked. "Besides, would you rather have a sleepover with J'onn, Kal, John, and Wally?"
"I'll take the kids," he quickly and firmly decided.
"I knew you'd see it my way," she happily replied, bending over to kiss him firmly on the lips. "I promise it'll be a lot of fun."
"Diana, you've never been to a slumber party," he pointed out. "How are you going to know what to plan?"
"Alfred and Tim volunteered to help me," she announced.
Bruce groaned as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "I might have known," he grumbled. "Tim was always bugging me to have a sleepover with a bunch of his friends."
"And you didn't let him?"
"I let him go to other houses for sleepovers, but I couldn't exactly have a bunch of kids in the house and be Batman at night."
"Well, now you have me," she reminded him with a dazzling grin before turning to walk away.
"Oh, no you don't," Bruce stopped her with an arm that swiftly shot out to wrap around her waist, pulling her into his lap with a yelp of surprise. "What do I get out of this?"
Diana's smile only grew brighter as her arms slipped around his neck. "I can think of a few things."
Her lips drew close to his ear, whispering all the wonderful things that she was going to do to him later. She finished by lightly nipping at his earlobe, sucking gently before releasing it only to blow lightly on it. He groaned deeply, deciding at that moment the woman could have anything that she wanted at that point.

"I can't believe I got talked into this," Bruce grumbled as he helped Alfred put snacks on a tray.
Alfred smiled as he turned to take drink boxes out of the refrigerator. "This is Nicholas and Kaia's first slumber party," he replied. "It's going to be fun."
"Remember how Tim wanted to have sleepovers?" Bruce asked.
"If I recall, Master Dick requested it on numerous occasions as well," Alfred reminded him.
"It's a little hard to fight crime at night and have a sleepover with a bunch of kids," Bruce pointed out.
"You could have taken one night off for a little fun."
Bruce turned pensive as he considered Alfred's words. "I was too consumed with Gotham at the time," he admitted with a mild air of regret. "Having a wife and young children has helped me to see the need to slow down a little and enjoy life."
"Miss Diana has been a good influence on you," Alfred decided as he emptied a bag of chips into a bowl.
"Far too much influence," he groused. "She talked me into this party."
A hand came to rest against his back, a pair of warm lips pressing against the side of his neck. "And you will be greatly rewarded," she whispered in his ear.
A shiver raced up his spine as the hair on the back of his neck prickled in anticipation. "Nicholas and Kaia will definitely love it, so I guess it's worth it," he ultimately agreed.
"You even solved your big case just in time," she added.
"Lucky me," he murmured with a roll of his eyes.
"Tim, Damian, Jason, Artemis, and Cassandra have Gotham covered tonight so you have nothing to worry about," she told him. "You can just have fun and enjoy your first slumber party."
Bruce's eyebrows knitted together. "I'm not sleeping out there with all of those kids," he stated. "I sleep with you and only you."
She gave him a cheeky smile. "I do not expect you to sleep on the floor with the kids, but it is good for you to experience a sleepover."
Bruce stared at his wife, a thought occurring to him. "Is this slumber party more for you or the kids?"
She shrugged her shoulder as she put oven mitts on her hands. "What does it matter?"
"Spill it, princess."
"Fine…Dinah and Vixen were talking about how they had slumber parties when they were little," she finally revealed as she removed a pizza from the oven. "I didn't know what it was until they explained it to me. I wanted to make sure Nicholas and Kaia were able to experience it since I never got the chance. I missed out on many things being the only child on Themyscira. I don't want them to miss out on making great memories with their friends."
Bruce smiled softly at her, walking over to kiss her cheek. "You're a good mother," he praised her, a thought occurring to him. "Wait…I thought Tim volunteered to help with this party."
"He's going to finish patrol early so he can play games with the kids."
"Ten bucks says they'll all be passed out by ten," Bruce decided. "That means I can still go out on patrol tonight."
"You have the night off, Master Bruce," Alfred reminded him as he passed by with a tray of juice boxes. "I suggest you take full advantage of it."
"I agree," Diana said with a grin, her hand slipping inside the collar of his shirt to settle on his neck. She pulled him for a deep kiss to remind him of what he would be missing out on later.
"Is that supposed to hold me over till later?"
"Daddy!" Kaia yelled as she ran into the kitchen. "Can we have more candy?"
"Definitely not," he stated in no uncertain terms. "You and your friends have had more than enough candy for the night. You're all going to be wound up for hours."
"But Daddy!" Kaia whimpered. "Rex took the last sucker, and I didn't get one."
"Here you go, princess," Diana said, handing her a sucker. "No more after this, though. We're bringing pizza out soon."
"Yay!" Kaia exclaimed before running back to the entertainment room with her sucker gripped tightly in her hand.
"You know you didn't have to give in to her," Bruce pointed out.
"I was saving you," Diana tried to tell him. "With that 'but daddy' look, you would've given her three suckers. You have no defense when it comes to Kaia."
"Okay, maybe, but I'm trying not to let her get to me anymore."
"Or any less," she said with a chuckle as she cut the pizza into small pieces.
Alfred came back with an empty tray only to trade it for a handful of towels. "What happened?"
"Just a little drink spill," Alfred reassured him. "Nothing to worry about. The carpets are due for a deep cleaning anyway."
"Can you take the pizza to them?" Diana asked, handing him the tray. "I'm going to grab more napkins. I have a feeling we're going to need them."
"So, basically, we're babysitting all the kids so their parents can go out on a date?" Bruce questioned her as she followed him to the entertainment room.
"I have no idea what they're all doing."
"I can pretty much guess," he replied, walking into the room. "Pizza is ready!"
A collective cry of glee filled the room as seven small children surrounded him within seconds. They all grabbed at his legs as excitement took over. He glanced back at Diana with an annoyed frown, knowing this was all her fault.
"Everyone sit down on your pillows," Diana instructed them. "We'll bring you a piece of pizza."
The kids quickly obeyed, much to Bruce's amazement. "That was pretty good," he told her.
Diana placed a piece of pizza on each plate as Bruce handed them out. This was the quietest it had been since they'd arrived an hour ago or so. He looked down at Bella who was sitting quietly on her pillow with her hands folded in her lap & her pacifier in her mouth.
Crouching down, he plucked the pacifier from her mouth before handing her a plate. "Why don't I hold on to this while you eat?"
Bella glared at him, snatching her pacifier out of his hand. She set it next to her on her pillow for safekeeping, obviously not trusting Bruce to give it back to her. "You're lucky she didn't bite you," Rex said to him from beside her. "She doesn't even let mommy and daddy take it."
"Reminds me of Kaia," he muttered to himself as he stood to his feet.
"Can I have more pizza?" Liam asked, holding up his empty plate.
Diana turned around in shock, stunned that Liam had eaten his pizza so fast. "Here are a couple more pieces."
"Can I have more chips?" Lara politely asked as she tugged on Diana's pant leg.
Christopher handed Diana his empty drink box, asking for more as Nicholas cried "Ut-oh!".
Diana turned around to find Kaia's wet sucker stuck in her hair. "Kaia!"
"I'll get it out," Bruce volunteered as he swept his daughter up into his arms.
"But I want pizza!" she insisted, trying unsuccessfully to wiggle out of her father's strong embrace.
"We'll make sure you get some pizza once I get your sucker out of your hair," he reassured her as he took her into the kitchen.
Bruce sat her down on the kitchen counter. "Don't move," he told her.
"What are you going to do?" she questioned with an eye of suspicion.
Bruce began to rummage through a drawer before pulling out a pair of scissors. "Master Bruce," Alfred said. "You can't cut Miss Kaia's hair."
"Why not?" he asked. "It'll grow back."
"Can I have a haircut like Dick?" she excitedly asked.
"You are not getting a boy's haircut," Bruce stated.
"You don't need a haircut at all," Alfred informed them as he took a bottle of olive oil from the pantry. "Apply a little of this."
Bruce took the bottle from him with a frown. "I think cutting it out would be easier."
"I promise you this will work better," Alfred assured him, handing him a towel.
Bruce sighed heavily as he took the towel, putting a little olive oil on it. He began to dab the oil on the sucker and surrounding hair. He slowly began unwinding the strands of hair from the sugary treat, careful not to cause her pain.
For her part, Kaia sat very still, patiently waiting for her father to finish the task at hand. "I still wish you'd just cut it out," she said. "Mama would be so surprised to see my new haircut."
"She'd be surprised all right," Bruce muttered. "This is actually working."
"I told you," Alfred replied. "Miss Kaia will be good as new."
"What about my sucker?" Kaia asked, looking up at Bruce with those big blue eyes that always melted his heart.
"I'll give you a new one," he promised her as he pulled the sucker free. "Just don't get this one stuck in your hair again."
He picked her up from the counter, setting her down on the floor. "Scoot," he told her, patting her on the bottom. "Go get your pizza."
"What about my sucker?"
"Here," he said, handing her three suckers. "Just don't tell your mom."
"Okay, I'm back," Tim announced as he raced into the kitchen.
"How's Gotham?" Bruce questioned him. "Any problems?"
"Not much going on at all," Tim told him. "How's the slumber party going?"
"It's chaos at its finest, but I guess that's normal for this sort of thing," he replied. "It's Diana's show. I'm just along for the ride."
"Wise words of a good husband," Alfred agreed as he left the kitchen with more snacks.
"Well, you can have a break once they're done eating," Tim said. "I have plenty of games for them to play to keep them occupied. I think Diana also has a craft for them to do."
"Diana also has a movie for them to watch…wait, a craft?" Bruce questioned him with a grimace as he grabbed a handful of grapes from the bowl. "She never said anything about doing a craft with them."
"Don't worry," Tim assured him. "I don't think it includes paint or Plaster of Paris or anything like that."
"I still think they'll all be asleep by ten o'clock…no, make it nine."
"I don't know," Tim thoughtfully responded. "You get a bunch of kids together with sugar and they could be wound up for hours. Diana bought enough candy to last till Halloween."
"We need more pizza," Diana excitedly proclaimed as she entered the kitchen. "This is so much fun! I can't wait to have another one."
"Another one?" Bruce exclaimed. "Can we just get through this one before we think about a second one? Better yet, why don't Clark and Lois host the next one?"
"Bruce!" Diana chided him. "Loosen up and have some fun."
Bruce grumbled as he grabbed the oven mitts, removing the next pizza from the oven. "I never would've guessed little kids would eat so much."
"Nicholas and Liam are having a contest to see who can eat the most pizza," she informed them.
"It'll be more like a contest to see how throws up first," Tim decided with a laugh.
"I'm just glad you didn't cut that sucker out of Kaia's hair," Diana told them, taking the pizza that Bruce was cutting and putting it on the tray. "I half expected her to return with a buzz cut."
"Don't think I didn't consider it," Bruce admitted. "Alfred talked me out of it."
"You know you're doing really well with this whole slumber party," Tim determined. "I really thought you would've snuck down to the cave by now to check on things."
"And don't think I didn't consider that as well," he told him.
Lara ran into the kitchen with Kaia, a sucker stuck in Lara's hair. "Lara has my sucker in her hair!" Kaia cried.
Bruce leaned over, his hands coming to rest on his thighs. "I thought I told you to keep the sucker away from the hair."
"I did!" Kaia claimed. "It's in her hair, not mine."
"I'll get the olive oil," he muttered with a sigh, readily deciding that facing off against Joker and Harley Quinn was far more desirable right now than having a party with a bunch of toddlers. "We're going to have to hose them all down before we send them back home to their parents in the morning."
"This is so fun!" Diana exclaimed with a grin. "Come on, Tim. We'll serve the pizza and start the movie. Then, they can play games."
Alfred chuckled as he watched Bruce attempt another sucker removal with olive oil. This slumber party was most certainly turning out to be the comedy of errors so far and the night was still young as they say. He couldn't wait to see what else was going to happen.
"Alfred!" Diana called. "We need more towels!"
"Bruce!" Tim yelled. "We're out of cookies!"
Bruce's eyes fell closed as he shook his head in exasperation, lifting Lara up to sit on the kitchen counter. Grabbing a handful of towels, Alfred smiled to himself as he walked out of the kitchen. The British Butler could only imagine how much better the next slumber party would go…that was if Master Bruce let Miss Diana have another one.
After all, the slumber party really was for her benefit as much as it was for the kids.
