"Jamie!"
Jamie was just hanging his jacket on the coat rack when he heard Eddie call out from the nursery. His heart leapt into his throat and it hammered as he took 5 long strides through the living room to the nursery. Once inside, his heart was still hammering in his chest and he was out of breath as he spoke.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Eddie's face lit up.
"Look! He's smiling!"
Jamie let out a breath.
"So he's ok?"
Eddie nodded and rubbed Patrick's tiny belly.
"He's perfect bub. He's already got the Reagan smirk. He'd better not turn out cocky."
Jamie leaned into the bassinet and gave Patrick a smile.
"Hey bud, what are you smiling at huh? Are you smiling at me? Or are you smiling at mommy?"
Patrick gave happy coos and started looking around. Jamie reached into the bassinet and picked Patrick up. Minding his head he cradled Patrick in his arms. Carefully taking a seat in the rocking chair, he started gently rocking back and forth. Placing a kiss to his tiny forehead Jamie watched as Patrick seemed to snuggle closer to him and snake an arm out, grabbing for tufts of his shirt with his tiny left hand. Jamie gave out a slight laugh.
"Bud, are you hungry? I don't have any food to give you. My shirt probably doesn't taste very good."
Patrick let out a cry of discontent and spit out the tuft of Jamie's shirt, stuffing his fist in his mouth instead. He whined some more as he sucked on his fist. Jamie gave him a look and placed a kiss to the crown of his head. Eddie motioned for Jamie to give Patrick to her.
"Ok baby boy, let's have daddy trade places with us and you and I can spend some time together."
Jamie helped her into the rocking chair and watched how mother and son bonded with one another. He gave Eddie and Patrick a warm smile.
"You know, it's moments like this I wish we could just stay in forever. But I know he's growing up fast. Before we know it, he's going to be asking me for the keys to the Chevelle."
Eddie gave Jamie a horrified look.
"Bite your tongue Reagan. He's 3 months old. He has many many milestones to go through first before we get to that stage of his life. I want to enjoy every moment of this that we have with him before then."
Jamie leaned in for a kiss and let it turn deep. Pulling apart, he leaned his forehead against hers. Their eyes closed, they relished in the moment. It wasn't until Patrick let out a semi-displeased cry that the couple then opened their eyes, looking down at him. Eddie gave him a sympathetic look and shifted Patrick in her arms and he found what he was looking for. She traced his tiny nose as he resumed having his meal. Jamie took a seat in another rocking chair next to the one Eddie was occupying. Pop had gotten them one as a baby shower gift and then Erin had gotten them one too. It seemed they had both been on the same train of thought when they got the rocking chairs.
"He's got my grandmother's striking hazel eyes. He's going to be very smart. I can feel it."
Eddie smiled up at Jamie for a moment.
"I would hope so. His mother is hot and smart. But so is his father. His father is handsome and sexy and the two of you are everything I will ever need in a family. Your family has been a gift to me. Had I had one like yours growing up, I don't think I would've gotten into as much trouble as I did."
Jamie liked Eddie's sassy side. He used to think she was a pain in the ass when they were just partners in the beginning, but as they spent more time together, on and off the job, he found it kind of endearing. He'd do anything for her now. He ran a hand through her hair and then stroked Patrick's tiny head.
"I'd do anything for the both of you. You know that right?"
Eddie nodded and looked into Jamie's eyes.
"I've known that since I took down Serento and saved your life. You thought it was my radio warning me. But I think it was a sign from up above. I've saved your life more than once since then. I was never sure about soul mates until I met you Jamie. The first time I saw you, I felt something different. Like some sort of strange electricity that went through me every time we touched."
Jamie looked at Eddie with a hard to read expression on his face.
"Are we talking about sex? Or something else?"
Eddie rolled her eyes at Jamie and play swatted him with her left hand, all while balancing Patrick in her arms as he continued to enjoy his meal.
"Jamie get your head out of the gutter. I'm talking about how we are meant to be together on a deeper level other than just sex."
Jamie smirked and nodded his head.
"Oh yeah. The feeling like we've known each other our whole lives but never realized it until just last year. I couldn't live a day without you Edit Marie Reagan. You are my world. You and Patrick."
The couple looked down at Patrick who was fast asleep. Jamie took him in his arms and Eddie straightened herself up. Placing a rag up to his shoulder, he heard Patrick give slight dismayed cooing. Jamie gently began to pat his back. He smiled when he began to hear a few small burps escaped Patrick's tiny mouth.
"There we go bud. Let's get all that gas out of your tummy. Good boy Patrick. Ok, time for a nap. Let's get you all comfy in your bed. We're going to have to get you into your crib soon. Your almost too big for both your bassinets."
Eddie smiled and leaned down to kiss Patrick as Jamie fixed the blanket over him.
"Have a good sleep baby boy. Mommy will feed you again in a couple of hours. Although you may wake up before then for a diaper change."
Jamie let out a giggle.
"Mommy knows now to keep your diaper semi-closed when changing you."
Eddie groaned and looked at Jamie.
"You'll never let me live that one down will you bub?"
Jamie laughed again.
"Nope. But little boys do that when you change their diapers. Now you know. I'm sorry he peed on your shirt."
Eddie groaned again and smacked his chest.
"Don't remind me. Nothing like smelling like pee."
Jamie raised a hand.
"Well, at least it wasn't a drunk perp who peed and puked all over the back of our RMP. Remember that?"
Eddie groaned one last time.
"That was disgusting cleaning that out!"
Jamie shook his head.
"I don't miss my rookie days."
