Chapter 45: Ignition
As what remained of Squadron 7 suddenly broke out into cheers, I stared forward in shock. That was not in the slightest what I thought would come of this. When I left for this mission, I only wanted my own life in my hands, now I had more than 50. Crap.
A bombardment of notifications flickered into existence.

Holy shit! But I can hardly enjoy it after that bomb was just dropped on me!
I decided to think about the feat later; there were more pressing matters at hand. Root walked over to me with a deep frown on his face.
"That's not fair. I'm stronger for you, if anyone should be commander, it's me!" He threw his hands up in annoyance.
Before I could even get a reply, Kizoku came out of nowhere and wrapped his arm around my neck. He had a big grin on his face, even as blood clung to the majority of his clothes.
"TO COMMANDER SPROUT!" He bellowed loudly, causing the squadron to roar. It would seem like even the ones who clung to Nappa before had quickly abandoned him for me.
They continued celebrating until we got all the way to Sildoon City.
A week had passed and I still had no idea what to do with my new position. When I met with Rucco, I half expected him to send me away like he tried to do with Bardock, but it was the opposite. He gave me permission to expand the area that the survivors of Omato village settled, as long as it didn't go into the already established city. I was his 'nephew' after all.
All of the soldiers were still in the hospital, recovering from a range of lingering injuries. The healers said that they'd be good enough to go on another mission in about a week, which gave us more than enough time to get to Vegeta City.
That wasn't my main issue, though. They expected me to lead them, and so did Chief Vegeta, but I wasn't sure how without getting them all killed. That last mission went well, but we were in a do-or-die situation. If I didn't help them, they would have died regardless. Now I was expected to lead them towards danger.
"Come and train with me," Zaria broke me out of my deep concentration, and I turned to her. "You need to stop worrying about this. You'll do fine."
"Squadron 7 has an average power level that just barely tips its head into second class, they'll get crushed and I'll be the one to get them killed," I said, before groaning and standing up. Without giving me time to get into position, she rushed me, throwing punch after punch at me. I dodged it with extreme ease, my head still in the clouds.
"When you met me, I had a power level of 154. It's only been a few months since then and I'm at 1340," She reminded me, but that didn't help at all.
"That's only because I taught you Yamoshi's training. Without it, their only strength gain will be from zenkai, and that's not enough," I reminded her. She threw a punch at my face that I intended to block, when suddenly her hand opened and scarlet magic exploded in my direction. My eyes widened and I jumped, avoiding it. Magic was a tricky thing, and the stronger Zaria got physically, the more potent her magic became.
"Do you plan on keeping the secret of Yamoshi's training forever?" Her voice came from behind me, seconds before a punch sent me back into the ground. I caught myself with my hands, before flipping onto my feet and looking up at her.
"Not forever… I just don't want it spreading all over the place. How will I become the strongest if everyone can improve alongside me?" I said selfishly. I knew it was selfish. We were fighting a war, and I had a solution that could give us a major advance.
"You don't see it, do you? You already improve much faster than everyone else. Even before you had that book, you were getting stronger, weren't you?" She said, and I grumbled under my breath. "If you think sharing the information is so bad, why did you share it with me, Turles, Rue and Kakarot?"
"I trust you," I said.
"Then decide who you can trust from your soldiers, and teach them. Between Zenkai boosts and Yamoshi's training, we'll all be strong enough that you won't have to worry anymore," She said. She had a good point, but the idea still made me hestiate.
In the end, I decided to go with the general feat Rapid Evolution: Inner Beast (2/10):. Several of the options were amazing, but this one made the most sense. I didn't often find myself in blind rages, and my auto-healing was off, so enhanced zenkai would have been wasted. This way, I essentially got twice as strong per level as before.
Plus, because I was the same level, but was twice as strong as before, I could go up against opponents that were much higher levels, ensuring that I'd get even more experience then normal. It was a no brainer.
I guess Zaria might be right. Now, I would continue improving dramatically faster than the other Saiyans. I doubted that they could catch up to me, even with Zenkai boosts. It was virtually impossible. But the idea of power houses like Vegeta and Bardock figuring it out made my dreams feel a little bit further. For all I knew, Turles could have already taught Bardock how it worked, powerhouses and that thought made me nauseous.
"I still don't like that you're going to be coming with us," I said to her, changing the subject, but she only very slightly smiled in response. "But I do need you. We work well together. I wouldn't have been able to infiltrate the Tuffle base easily without you."
"I know," She floated down to me. "And that's another thing. I feel like I could do more."
"More?" I raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"More," She said, and for a second, I could have sworn I saw her eyes flash crimson red. "The stronger I get, the more I feel my magic flowing through me. It doesn't even hurt to cast spells anymore."
"That's a good thing."
"Of course, but it also means that I'm getting comfortable," She said. "Bardock said that there was more I could do with my magic, but even now, I still know the same 3 spells. I'm getting stronger physically, but magic is lagging behind. I'm limiting myself."
I'd never quite thought about that. Wood, the magic user from the Tuffle Royal family, had used magic to turn the room into a rubbery material when I tried to escape. Of course there'd be other spells to learn.
"What do you plan on doing about that?" I asked her.
"I've got to find other's who know how to use magic," She decided. "Bardock said that he knew of some that lived near Omato Village. They could teach me more."
"But the area's near Omato Village have already been taken over by the Tuffles," I reminded her.
"Not this place. Last I heard, they're still holding on. Probably due to their magic," She said, a small hint of excitement gracing her expression. She was barely ever excited, and I would have been equally excited if this wasn't so dangerous.
"When are we going?" I asked, but her face told me otherwise.
"I'll be heading over there when you're heading there within the next two weeks. About the same time that you'll be heading to Vegeta City," She said slowly, as if to try to get me to understand her logic. It didn't work.
"You think I'm going to let you go to a town bordering Tuffle territory alone?" I asked in shock. "No way in hell!"
"You don't have a choice. You need to meet with Vegeta soon, and I need to get stronger," She stressed, but I was already shaking my head.
"Nope, not happening," I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes. "It was bad enough you sneaking along with me to the front lines, but this is insane!"
"You don't understand. You think just because you're stronger then me, that it's your job to protect me," She took a few steps towards me and put a gentle hand on my arm. "But I don't want you to worry about me. I want you to feel like you can stand side by side with me on the battlefield and be at peace. If you can say that you can do that right now, I'll cancel the trip."
I grumbled a lie under my breath, but couldn't bring myself to admit it. She was right. She was much stronger then when I met her, but a few stray bullets could kill her just the same. Her three spells had been extremely useful up until now, it couldn't hurt to have more.
"Okay… But if anything happens, you need to send a call to my scouter immediately," I said, and she smiled in victory. "Promise?"
"Promise."
"Oh hey commander!"
I went to see the soldiers in the hospital the next morning. The first person I went to see was Kizoku. He looked to already be fully healed, so I figured I'd check out his new power level. I was surprised to find that [Observe] at a max level far surpassed my current level.

The depth of the new sections was incredible. The description was now multiple paragraphs, detailing what was essentially a highlight real of the most important details of Kizoku's life. His goal was to master his Ki, based on the new information that he now knew about it. He didn't have any secrets as of right now, which made sense considering how outspoken he was. By the time I read over everything, I felt like I knew Kizoku more than I knew myself.
This was a game-changer. I could use this max level [Observe] on all of the people in the squadron, I didn't have to do all of the work to figure out who I could trust. This was excellent.
"Just call me Sprout," I said as I walked into the room that he shared with several other soldiers. They all looked over at me and nodded with respect. "I'm here to see how you guys are improving."
"I'm just about ready to get out of here," He said as he stretched out.
"You look better than ever to me. You had a pretty good Zenkai boost, too," I said, to which he smirked and flexed. "From 600 to 900. Next time you'll be in second class."
"I hope so," He beamed.
"But what would you say if I said you could become second class much sooner?" I lowered my voice as I approached him, just low enough that he was the only one who could hear me. He caught the hint quickly and narrowed his eyes in confusion.
"What do you mean?" He took a step closer to me and lowered his voice to match him.
"At the moment, you're the one in Squadron 7 that I trust the most. If I told you that I had a way to increase your power level, what would you say?" I asked.
"I'd say… Shouldn't we all know about it?" He asked, looking around at the other soldiers. "As in like, the whole army?"
"Do you trust me, Kizoku?" I ignored his question, in favor of my own.
"Well, yeah, of course. If you hadn't shown up, I'd probably be dead right now," He said without hesitation.
"Then trust me here," I implored him, offering my hand. "Take my hand, and you'll ascend beyond your wildest dreams. You, Root, and Zaria will be my lieutenants. The rest of the squadron will follow."
A look of deep contemplation etched itself on his face as he thought about it. In the end, I knew what he'd choose. A moment later, I was proven right, when he shook my hand and his concentration turned to determination.
"When do we start?"
You've leveled up two special skills!
You've Leveled up the Meteor Fist skill!
Meteor Fist Lvl MAX
Meteor Fist Lvl MAX (Branch 1) - Three times per combat, a single physical attack will do double its normal damage.
You've Leveled up the Lightweight skill!
Choose One:
Lightweight (Branch One) Lvl 2 - Once per combat experience, you can triple your speed stat with no stamina withdrawal. Lasts 30 seconds.
Lightweight (Branch Two) Lvl 2 - Once per combat experience, you can double your speed stat with no stamina withdrawal. Lasts 60 seconds.
Lightweight (Branch Three) Lvl 2 - Twice per combat experience, you can double your speed stat with no stamina withdrawal for 30 seconds.
It's about time.
I wanted to upgrade the two skills before working on raising stats again. I was only 4 strength points from hitting a strength stat increase after all, which would have likely reset all of the progress that I made manually. Based on the options given to me for Lightweight, it would seem like picking a branch locks you to it.
I decided on branch two, and then immediately pulled up my stat sheet.

KI - 128,760
Strength: 74 +
Endurance: 46 +
Intelligence: 36 +

Power Level: 6960
It was honestly difficult to even comprehend how strong I'd gotten with that last feat, and with 30 attribute points to spend, it felt like the sky was the limit. Even if the planet cap was still the same, I had no doubt that once I reached it, I'd be a monster without competition.
I put 10 points into intelligence, bringing it to a solid 46. And my strength up to 80 and 14 in endurance to bring it to 60.

Choose:
Second Wind lvl 2 (Branch 1) - Twice per combat, you can restore 25% of your stamina.
Second Wind lvl 2 (Branch 2) - Once per combat, you can restore 50% of your stamina
I decided on branch two for [Iron Body] and branch 1 for [Second Wind]. When all was said and done, my power level was 8,400. In one fell swoop, I'd surpassed the majority of all Saiyans.
And it still wasn't enough.
I turned to my students and lieutenants, Zaria, Kizoku, Root and Rue, and my fists clenched.
"Let's get to work."
The trip to Vegeta City didn't take very long. It was built pretty much in the center of the map of the planet, in the remains of what used to be the Tuffle Capital before the Great War. It was huge, at least twice the size of Mossgrove, and with similar architecture. There were a few differences between the two cities, including a lack of walls, the many 'training' areas scattered around, and a massive castle at the back end of the city, leading to a large lake.
We arrived at night, and it wasn't a bad sight. Lights from the city looked like mini-stars in the distance.
"Do you think Zaria will be okay?" Rue asked me as we flew. She'd separated from us the day we set off for Vegeta City. I ended up taking with Rue and Root, considering it was likely only for a day. Kizoki, along with a few other healed soldiers, went with Zaria.
"Yeah, she'll be fine."
She was much stronger than before and had her magic on her side. She'd be fine. I hope…
We went straight to the castle, figuring that's where Vegeta would be. When we got to the entrance, two Saiyans wearing odd-looking armor approached me, stopping me in my tracks.
"Sprout Aka, Vegeta has been expecting you. You're the last to arrive," One of the guards said in a monotone voice. "Your soldiers can explore the city until the end of the meeting."
Meeting? I groaned mentally, before turning to my squadron.
"I guess go explore the city," I sighed. Reluctantly, Kizoku and Rue flew off, leaving Root by himself. "What are you still doing here?"
"I want in on the meeting."
I turned to the guards, but they shook their heads. "Sorry, but it's commanders only."
"Bullshit. I'm stronger than you, I should be commander," He grumbled in annoyance, crossing his arms over his chest. I walked past the guards and smirked as I looked back at Root.
"Stronger than me? You wish. You should get your scouter checked."
As the doors closed behind me, I caught a glimpse of the priceless look on his face.
The interior of the castle was magnificent. The floor sparkled and there was gold everywhere, besides the holes that still existed from when the city was invaded all those years ago. I doubted that we had the technology needed to fix it and make it look good. Besides, the holes added character.
I was led to a large meeting room, with a massive circular table that spanned the entire space. On each of the tables sat other Saiyans who I could only assume were also commanders, and at the head of the table sat Vegeta, Lemogra, Bardock, and what looked like a much younger version of Vegeta. To their left, there was an empty seat that I could only assume was for Omato.
Barock had a look of deep concentration on his face, but that quickly melted away into confusion when he spotted me entering the room. Before he got a chance to figure out what was going on, Vegeta stood up and clapped his hands, bringing all of the scattered conversations to a pause.
"Welcome! It's been many years since the commanders of the Saiyan army have gathered together!" His voice reverberated around the room. "I'm glad that all arrived here safely. I see many old faces and some new."
That was when Lemogra noticed me too, and her ever-present scowl deepened. I didn't give her the time of day, instead scanning the room to see if I recognized any other faces. Unfortunately, I did, seeing the unpleasant face of Brussel looking back at me. Of course, she'd be a commander. She gave me a mocking grin while flicking me off.
By the time I looked back at Bardock, his eyes were narrowed and he was glaring at Vegeta with contempt. Vegeta merely smiled, before continuing.
"We always knew that this day would come. After we struck the heart of their capital and sent them retreating to the sea, it was only a matter of time," He said. "But we haven't been sitting back doing nothing either. Most of you already know the true intention of the purges; to prepare our children for the battle ahead of us. That battle has finally arrived."
"The Tuffles are much more organized this time around. And they have a lot of new tricks. That is why I've brought us all together. We need to fight strategy with strategy. First, we'll discuss our experiences with the Tuffle's new technology and strategies, and we'll go from there."
The conversation quickly sped up after that. It became obvious after several of us told our stories that every Tuffle captain went about warfare a little differently. Some focused on bombs, others focused on their energy weapons and armor, and some stuck to plain old poison. Eventually the discussion got around to the 'living dead' Saiyans, as one called it.
"Speaking of these Saiyans rising from the dead, our latest Saiyan commander Sprout Aka, son of our late Omato Aka, just had a marvelous victory against a Tuffle captain who used them. Do you have anything to add?" Vegeta spoke up, and all eyes turned to me.
I cleared my throat and pushed down the nervousness I felt. "It's a virus that they infect us with prior to killing us. When defending _ village, I noticed that the water tasted slightly off. It took a few days for it to leave our system, but once it did, we stayed dead. The best way to kill one is to decapitate it."
A few of them nodded their heads in my direction, while others didn't look too happy that I was there. I ignored them, and was about to continue, when Bardock interrupted me.
"It is very important to note that one bite from these infected Saiyans can transform a living Saiyan in minutes," He said loudly, bringing attention back to him. I winced, the memory of an infected Raditz coming to mind. After the fight with Blerry, I had pushed that right to the back of my subconscious. Upon seeing my wince, Bardock's face softed for what felt like a split second, before he turned away from me.
"Forget the fucking dead pricks, I still can't figure out how to get past those shitty shields," Lemogra said. She had her legs kicked up on the table in a lax way.
Vegeta III looked over at her with a sliver of annoyance, before saying, "You can't figure out how to get past those shields? Last I heard, your squadron's seen you a grand total of one time."
She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "That spy shits annoying, you know that?"
All of the faces in the room shifted awkwardly, but no one spoke up about it. Thankfully, I didn't have that problem due to my [Observe]. I had found the spies easily, but didn't let them onto the fact that I knew. They weren't particularly strong, and I definitely wasn't planning on teaching them how to get stronger, so they'd probably die off.
To break the awkward silence, I spoke up, saying, "The shields are extremely difficult to break from the outside, but if you can get in, it's easy."
Lemogra scowled over at me, her eyes narrowing. "Who the fuck let the baby in the room? Don't you have a bedtime?"
"I personally granted him the rank of commander," Vegeta raised his voice ever so slightly, shutting her up. "Commander Aka managed to sneak his squadron through their shields and destroyed an entire platoon of Tuffles. How many soldiers did you lose, commander?"
I flushed at the praise, but hid it well. "12."
Several faces in the room were shocked, and a few began to turn on their scouters. A mix of shock, annoyance and sudden interest spread through the room. I basked in it for a few seconds before saying, "Their shield blocks Saiyans from entering, unless we're wearing their armor."
"Normally, that would be a problem, because their armor is some sort of nanite metal that they seemingly can shape with their mind, but…" I released one of the armors from my inventory and shaped it into new armor. "I already run an armors and weapons shop. I'd be happy to sell you and your soldiers armor at a discounted price."
Several didn't like that, but I'd expected that when I'd had the idea. If the entire Saiyan army was armored up, what would make me, or my squadron, special? And if all of the Saiyans suddenly had field defying armor, they'd probably just change how the fields worked. It was better if we stayed diverse, like they were.
Even still, I did have some compassion. "To wet your appetites, I'll give each commander one."
I rapid crafted a set of armor for each of the commanders, besides Lemogra. Some clearly didn't want to accept the gift, for whatever reasons, but the majority did. Lemogra scowled with her arms crossed but didn't say anything beyond that.
The rest of the meeting was more of the same, with nothing more of interest coming up besides Vegeta explaining how missions would work. Him and others under him would call us and offer us missions, so we all weren't wandering cluelessly. The meeting ended an hour or so later, and as I was walking out, I was stopped at the door by someone grabbing my shoulder. I sighed, already knowing who it was.
"Last time I saw you, I told you to keep your ass in Sildoon."
"And I told you that it was bullshit. I can handle myself," I told him. He narrowed his eyes, and I wondered if he'd keep it up. We stared at eachother for a solid 10 seconds, before he grumbled under his breath and inhaled deeply.
"Well, it's too late for me to do anything about it now. You have a whole squadron behind you, and you're endorsed by Vegeta. All I can ask is that you don't die out there. Don't take unnecessary risks, but most importantly…" He took a step closer to me, leaning in so that only I could hear him. "Be wary of Vegeta. He has countless resources, and while you're his friend, you'll revel in it. But if he finds a reason to turn on you, you'll wish you never came back to Planet Plant."
I took a second before nodding my head back to him. I already had my reservations about Vegeta. From what it sounded like from his description, we had similar goals. I wanted to be King of the Saiyans, and he wanted to lead the saiyans. What else is a king, but a leader to its people? Bardock knew about my goal. This wasn't a hypothetical scenario, this was the inevitable future.
"When will I see you next?" I asked him, deciding to push that matter to the back of my mind. At the moment, I needed Vegeta's help. I'd deal with the consequences later down the line; hopefully when my power level was above his.
"I have no idea," He said honestly. As he did, he walked past me and patted me on the shoulder. "Be safe, kid."
As he flew away, I couldn't help but feel a wave of relief. That went much better than expected. It felt good to have his blessing somewhat, even if it had to be forced out of him.
Just as I was prepared to fly off, I was stopped by Vegeta and the miniature version of him, likely his son. I used [Observe] on him, only to freeze.

The Prodigy
Vegeta 'Indivia' the 4th Sansei
Species - Saiyan
Gender - Male
Age - 14
Reputation - Neutral
Vegeta the 4th, also known as Indivia to distinguish himself from his father, is the second-born child of Vegeta the 3rd. He was born with an unusually high power level for the modern Saiyan race, the second highest in its history.
He is interested in you.
He is currently annoyed.
Power Level - 15,550
What the fuck? All this time, I'd assumed that the three warchiefs were the strongest on the planet. Bardock was where I had my eyes placed, but this kid was far above even Bardock. I couldn't believe my eyes, and my eyes were glued onto him. Eventually, he scowled and narrowed his eyes.
"What are you staring at?" The kid, Indivia, spat. I straightened out and a small smile slipped across my face.
"Just surprised that your father was able to replicate himself almost perfectly," I chuckled nervously, earning a brief smirk from the war chief. Besides the height difference between the two, the only difference was that War Chief Vegeta had a goatee, and Indivia had none.
"I was glad to see you decided to join us tonight," Vegeta said. "Your input and equipment was invaluable."
"Not a problem." I nodded my head. "I should get going now."
I turned away from them, only to be face-to-face with the torso of a giant. My eyes trailed up until they were met with dark, staring eyes. His body was littered with jewelry, from necklaces to bracelets and anklets, all befitted with shining stones. However, what startled me wasn't his appearance, or even his power level, but his title.

The Legendary Super Saiyan
Broly Sansei
Species - Saiyan (Mutate)
Gender - Male
Age - 14
Reputation - Neutrel
Broly Sansei was born from a powerful Saiyan warrior known as Paragus, who died when Broly was young. Even from a young age, his power was uncontrollable and violent. He was adopted by the Sansei family shortly after, where he quickly melded in with the family.
He has no idea who you are.
He is currently bored.
Power Level - 9600
What the fuck is going on? The legendary Super Saiyan? I stared in disbelief, remembering the form that Kakarot, Turles, and I slipped into to fight the Tuffles. It was called the False Super Saiyan form… Am I looking at the real thing?
If so, why does his hair and aura look normal? And there was another problem. My eyes swiftly bounced between his level and his nonchalant face. My eyes snapped to his tail, or where it would have been if he had one. Is he fully evolved? A power level of 9600 at level 8 doesn't make any sense!
"Before you go, let me introduce you to my other son, Broly," Vegeta walked around me and put a hand on Broly's shoulder. "Broly, this is Sprout. You two have something in common."
I steeled my expression, trying not to show my confusion. Did he know about the transformation? I raised an eyebrow in curiosity, asking, "And what's that?"
"You didn't think your power level would jump by almost double and no one would notice, did you?" He chuckled slowly, and I sighed. I figured this would come up, but what did that have to do with the Broly kid?
"Between all of the confusion of becoming a commander, I guess I didn't even think about it," I lied, wondering what he assumed was going on.
"Don't forget, I was good friends with your father for most of his life," Vegeta said. "The last time we spoke, he spoke highly of his son who could heal by eating, with seemingly endless potential."
As long as he doesn't find out about the physical training. I smiled slightly, taking the flattery, before looking up at the teenager. "So what makes us alike?"
Broly moved a little closer to me, offering his hand, which I shook. Every movement that he made was followed by loud clashing as his jewels collided against each other. "Dad said that you get stronger differently from others. So do I."
"How so?" I asked.
"When I fight, I'm constantly getting zenkai boosts. Every hit," He revealed, which made me all the more uncomfortable. That couldn't be all there was, or else his level would make sense. I didn't pry further though, nodding my head.
"That's pretty cool. I'm not entirely sure how mine works," I told him, shrugging my shoulders. I gave this a lot of thought, realizing that this was going to keep coming up. "But, I think it's the opposite of yours. Instead of getting a zenkai after every battle, it's like my body saves them up and releases them at random."
"Huh, that's cool," He humbled under his breath, before yawning and stretching his arms over his head. That was when I realized that the jewelry wasn't normal. They were power suppressors that were made to look fancy. Even with all of the bejewelling, they still looked similar to the ones the Juggernaught crew put on me in their ship. And they were all over his body.
This guy's a monster.
Suddenly, a realization dawned on me.
To reach my goal of becoming the King of the Saiyans put me in direct conflict with the three in front of me; making Bardock's earlier words hit all the harder. Staying on Vegeta's good side wasn't optional, it was necessary. Just when I thought I was catching up he comes with this ridiculous power play…
While contemplating all of this, the younger Vegeta scoffed and rolled his eyes, catching everyone's attention. Broly's eyes seemed to soften ever so slightly, which only made the younger Vegeta's scowl deepen. His father gave him a stern look, which was clearly the last straw, because he immediately flew off.
For how socially adept his father and brothers were, he was surprisingly brutish. Did he not like me? My eyes flickered over to Broly, whose slips had turned down into a slight frown. Sibling jealousy? I put the thought to the back of my head. Better not get involved.
We said our goodbye shortly after, with Vegeta offering for me to return whenever I wanted to visit the city. While flying out, I spotted what looked like a large library, which I most definitely planned on exploiting.
I've still got a long way to go.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter! The next chapter will be a large interlude that I've been working on which covers what happens with Zaria when she goes off to learn more about magic. It's about half way done (and has been for about a month and a half...).
