Chapter 1 Meet the Chan Clan
"Here you go miss."
The Cab driver from India heritage spoke in an accent.
They were driving through San Francisco to find Chinatown to locate her internship at a shop. They stop at the building called Uncle's Rare Finds which is color yellow with a red roof that seems to be more Chinese culture building.
"Thanks," She paid as she opened the door. The cab driver assisted her bags and luggage inside the shop.
The bell rings signaling someone like a customer to enter the shop.
"Oh! Welcome to Uncles Rare Finds!" An old Chinese American man greeted her with a smile.
"Hello, is Jackie Chan here?" The blonde said quickly, "I have an appointment with him."
Uncle blinked and silenced.
"Um…The university sent me to him."
Silence more.
"I am here for the internship." She laughed nervously with a smile.
Silence again.
"My name is Charlotte Darke in case you are wondering. You can call me Charlie thou."
"Aiya!" Uncle shrieked.
Charlie is surprised as she watched this old man freaking out.
"Why didn't you say so? Uncle thought Uncle taught Jackie manners!" Uncle angered himself but more on Jackie's part.
Uncle then turned back and shouted some more. "JACKIE! INTERN IS HERE! AT UNCLES SHOP!"
Charlie winced at Uncle shrieking.
Another is a man in his mid-thirties with an average stature and a "solid" build. His features include a square jaw, wide nose, soft, brown eyes with thick eyebrows, and short black hair. His most common outfit consists of a light blue sweater, tan trousers, and brown running shoes.
"Uncle, what is it?" He spoke and then received punishment.
Two fingers smack his head like a whip.
"OW."
Uncle lectured him. "Jackie, why didn't you warn Uncle that your intern is coming? And one more thing, you should have called ahead for your intern to settle! One more thing, why not make coffee like you promise!"
"Oh, sorry uncle." He rubbed his head. He looked and turned to his new intern. "Oh hello, my name is Jackie Chan. And you must be the new intern that the University sent."
He shook her hand to greet her.
Charlie shyly replied, "Hi, Mr. Chan. Please call me, Charlie."
Jackie introduced Uncle. "And this is my uncle as you can guess." Uncle sips his tea since there is no coffee.
"Hi! I'm Jade Chan and my uncle Jackie is a super famous secret spy!" A vocal voice made Charlie turn and see a young 12-year-old girl who usually wears a white long-sleeved shirt covered by an orange short-sleeved hoodie, blue high-water jeans, and red sneakers.
"Secret Spy?" Charlie is repeatedly confused.
Jackie chuckled nervously and went to the girl's side. "Haha. Children always with imaginations. Um, this is my niece. Excuse us for a bit."
He quickly picked her up and left her alone in front.
Uncle sipped on the tea and said, "Tea?"
Charlie shrugged. She could go for Tea.
Back to Jackie and Jade's conversations…
"Jade." Jackie sternly looked at his niece with his arms crossed.
"What have I told you about the other things?"
Jade moaned, "But she is your sidekick, right? Like for missions and stuff."
"Jade, Ms. Darke is an intern that the university asked me to do. She will someday do what I am doing. As an archeologist. Not a spy." Jackie firmly tells Jade and sadly his niece doesn't get it.
Jade wanted Jackie to be a cool spy instead of his real job.
Jackie is not even a spy.
"But…" Jade was cut off by Jackie.
"Also, I received a call from your teacher again. What happened between you and Drew that caused such disturbance in class?"
"He's calling me a liar Jackie!" the girl said pleadingly. "He won't believe me when I tell him how cool you are and about the talismans and the shadowkhan!"
Jackie sighed. Sometimes his niece doesn't understand that it was supposed to be kept a secret. And it must remain a secret.
"Now, Jade you weren't supposed to tell him. In Fact, no one is supposed to know about it. Now I want you to go clean up before supper." Jackie told her with no more nonsense tone.
Jade whined as she left to get cleaned up.
Jackie sighed and then returned to see Uncle talk about each antique to Charlie which she seemed to use her small eye specks to see closer.
'Ahh, it seems like this intern is interested in this line of work.' Jackie nodded happily.
"Well, this came from the Ming Dynasty very rare. If I do say so myself." Uncle spoke as he held a Ming Dynasty vase.
Jackie Chan and everyone didn't realize that Charlie would become the object of a Demon Sorcerer's source of power.
Will she be safe?
Or will she have to accept what was written as fate?
