Here is a new chapter. It deals with Greif/a brutal death so please be mindful that this will maybe open up old wounds. Also, I don't own anything except a few non E.L James characters.
"Kate, what time is it?" Ana yelled from her room, frantically rifling through her wardrobe. Tonight, she and Kate were joining the Greys for a family barbecue at the house Grace and Carrick were staying at while in Ireland. Ana's room was a mess of clothes scattered everywhere as she tried to find the perfect outfit.
"Five," Kate called back, walking into Ana's room with her phone in hand. "We have about 20 minutes before Ethan will be here to take us. Also, I was able to find a pretty close to direct flight to Seattle next week for your week off." Kate glanced up from her phone just in time to see Ana freeze in place, staring at her clothes with a blank expression.
"Week off… Is it really one?" Ana muttered to herself. She'd have to go to Seattle and face a lot of unresolved issues. Kate's voice pulled her out of her thoughts.
"Ethan is going to go with you and stay. Lizzy is about to pop and he'll kill me if he misses the birth of his baby." Kate's tone was light, but when she looked up and saw Ana's face, her expression softened. "Ana?"
Ana's mind was spinning. She had been so wrapped up in her new relationship with Christian and everything happening around them that she had almost forgotten. "I leave next week," she said, the reality sinking in.
"Have you told him?" Kate asked cautiously, knowing how sensitive the subject was. Very few people knew the real story about how Ana's parents had passed. Kate cautiously touched Ana's shoulder as she approached her slowly.
"No… I haven't been able to bring it up," Ana admitted her voice barely above a whisper. She felt a lump forming in her throat as the memories rushed back. The thought of telling Christian about her parents' tragic accident, about the pain she had carried for so long, was overwhelming. Panic overtook her. Ana felt the flashes of memories overtake her.
Ana pushed open the door to her childhood home, a sense of unease settling over her. The house was eerily silent, far too quiet for a place that usually bustled with warmth and laughter. She had come home for a surprise visit, excited to see her parents after a few months away in New York for SVU. But now, something felt wrong.
"Mom? Dad?" she called out, her voice echoing through the empty hallway. There was no response. A knot formed in her stomach as she stepped further inside.
As she walked into the living room, the sight before her made her heart stop. Her father was slumped on the couch, his eyes closed, and his skin an unnatural pallor. "Dad?" Ana whispered, rushing over to him. She shook his shoulder gently, but he didn't move. His body was cold to the touch.
Panic rising, Ana ran to the kitchen, calling for her mother. The smell hit her first, a metallic tang that made her stomach churn. Her mother lay on the kitchen floor, surrounded by a pool of blood. The knife on the counter, the one she always used to chop vegetables, was stained red.
"No, no, no," Ana sobbed, dropping to her knees beside her mother. She pressed her fingers to her mother's neck, desperately searching for a pulse but finding none. Her mother's lifeless eyes stared blankly at the ceiling.
Ana's vision blurred with tears as she reached for her phone, her hands trembling uncontrollably. She dialed 911, barely able to speak through her sobs. "Please, help me. My parents… they're… they're gone," she managed to choke out.
The minutes that followed felt like hours. She sat there, numb and shaking, clutching her mother's hand, willing her to come back. The sound of sirens in the distance barely registered. When the paramedics arrived, they gently pulled her away, but she couldn't tear her eyes from the heartbreaking scene.
"Ana," a familiar voice called out. It was her neighbor Wendy, who had arrived just after the paramedics. She wrapped Ana in a tight embrace, her own tears falling freely. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart."
Ana clung to her neighbor, her body wracked with sobs. The world around her seemed to fade away, leaving only the unbearable pain of her loss.
Kate squeezed her shoulder gently causing Ana to come back to reality. "Ana, it's okay. Breathe." She couldn't shake the feeling she felt as she stared back Kate. "Ana…"
Ana took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "I know, Kate. It's just… every time I think about telling him, the words get stuck in my throat. It still burns."
Kate gave her a reassuring smile. "Christian cares about you. He'll understand. And he needs to know before it comes out. The trial will be everywhere. The fact that he doesn't know is surprising."
Tragic Double Homicide Shocks Local Community: Ray and Carla Steele Found Dead in Their Home
Seattle, WA — The quiet suburban neighborhood of Meadowbrook was rocked by tragedy this past weekend as beloved community members Ray and Carla Steele were discovered dead in their home in what authorities are calling a double homicide.
Police were alerted to the scene on Sunday afternoon when their daughter, Anastasia Steele, made a frantic 911 call upon finding her parents' bodies. According to the initial report, Ray Steele, 48, was found unresponsive on the living room couch, while Carla Steele, 45, was discovered in the kitchen with fatal stab wounds.
Ray Steele, a decorated veteran and respected local contractor, was known for his warm demeanor and dedication to his family and work. He was often seen participating in community events and helping neighbors with home improvement projects. Carla Steele, a beloved elementary school teacher, was cherished by her students and colleagues for her kindness and passion for education. The couple had been married for over 25 years and were regarded as pillars of the community.
"This is an unimaginable loss," said family friend and neighbor, Martha Jenkins. "Ray and Carla were such wonderful people. They loved each other and their daughter deeply. It's hard to believe something so horrific could happen to them."
The investigation is currently underway, with police working tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to the tragic deaths. Detective Mark Henderson, the lead investigator on the case, stated, "We are pursuing all leads and are committed to finding justice for Ray and Carla. We urge anyone with information to come forward."
The community has been quick to rally around the Steele family in their time of need. A candlelight vigil was held last night at Meadowbrook Park, where hundreds of residents gathered to pay their respects and offer support to Anastasia Steele, a college student who is now left to navigate this devastating loss.
"Anastasia is showing incredible strength during this time," said Kate Kavanagh, a close friend of the Steele family. "We are all here for her, and we will do everything we can to help her through this."
In the wake of this tragedy, local authorities are increasing patrols and urging residents to remain vigilant. Community leaders are also organizing counseling services and support groups to help those affected by the incident cope with the grief and fear it has instilled.
As the investigation continues, the Meadowbrook community holds its breath, hoping for answers and justice for Ray and Carla Steele. The memory of their kindness, dedication, and love will forever be cherished by those who knew them.
Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact the Seattle Police Department's tip line at (206) 555-1234.
Ana had taken a few weeks off work, the shock of her parents' deaths making it impossible to focus on anything else. But eventually, she returned to her job, feeling lost and unsure of what else to do. The familiar routine brought some semblance of normalcy, but the void left by her parents was ever-present.
The investigation into her parents' murder had revealed a horrifying truth. It was an ex-boyfriend of Ana's, someone she had once trusted and cared for. After their breakup, he had become increasingly erratic and possessive, showing up everywhere she went. His behavior had escalated to the point where Ana had to get a restraining order against him. She thought changing her phone number a month before the murders would give her some peace. She never imagined he would take such a monstrous step to find her.
The police had pieced together the events leading to the tragedy. Her ex had managed to track down her parents' address and, in a fit of rage and delusion, had taken their lives because her dad refused to give up his daughter. The restraining order and changed number had not been enough to protect her family from his obsession.
The guilt and horror of that revelation had nearly consumed Ana. She blamed herself, thinking that if she had done something differently, her parents might still be alive. It took months of therapy and the unwavering support of Kate and her family for her to begin to heal and understand that she was not responsible for the actions of a disturbed individual.
Update: Arrest Made in Steele Family Double Homicide Case
Seattle, WA — In a significant development in the investigation of the tragic double homicide that shocked the Meadowbrook community, police have arrested James McGraw, the ex-boyfriend of actress Anastasia Steele, in connection with the murders of Ray and Carla Steele.
The arrest comes after an extensive investigation by the Seattle Police Department, which has tirelessly worked to piece together the events leading up to the brutal crime. Ray Steele, 48, and Carla Steele, 45, were found dead in their home three weeks ago in what initially appeared to be a senseless act of violence. The case took a grim turn as details emerged linking McGraw to the crime.
According to police reports, McGraw, 27, had a history of erratic and obsessive behavior following his breakup with Anastasia Steele. Ms. Steele had obtained a restraining order against McGraw after he repeatedly showed up uninvited at her workplace and home. Despite changing her phone number and taking other precautions, McGraw managed to track down her parents' address.
Detective Mark Henderson, the lead investigator, provided a statement at a press conference held earlier today. "This has been a deeply disturbing case, and our hearts go out to Anastasia Steele and her family. We have gathered substantial evidence linking Mr. McGraw to the crime scene, including forensic evidence and witness testimonies. His arrest is a critical step toward securing justice for Ray and Carla Steele."
The investigation revealed that McGraw had been harboring resentment and anger towards Anastasia Steele after their breakup. His behavior escalated over time, culminating in the horrific act of violence. It was uncovered that McGraw had broken into the Steele residence with the intent to confront Anastasia. When he found her parents instead, his rage resulted in their untimely deaths.
"We are relieved to have this individual in custody," Detective Henderson continued. "However, we are also mindful of the pain and suffering this has caused the Steele family and the community. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served."
Anastasia Steele, known for her roles in both television and film, has been receiving support from friends and family during this devastating time. She expressed her gratitude to the community and law enforcement for their unwavering support and efforts in bringing her parents' murderer to justice.
A close friend of the Steele family, Kate Kavanagh, spoke briefly to reporters. "Ana has shown incredible strength through all of this. She's grateful for the support she's received and hopes that with McGraw's arrest, she can begin to find some semblance of closure."
James McGraw is currently being held without bail and is expected to face multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder. Legal proceedings are set to begin next month, where the community hopes to see justice served for the senseless loss of Ray and Carla Steele.
The community of Meadowbrook remains in mourning, but the arrest brings a measure of relief and a step towards healing. A memorial service for Ray and Carla Steele will be held this weekend at Meadowbrook Community Church, where friends and neighbors will gather to honor their memory.
Ana could barely hear anything other than her heart beating. The room seemed to close in around her, the walls pressing in with every breath. She could see Kate talking to her, but no sound was coming out, only the rapid thud of her heartbeat echoing in her ears. "Kate, I can't go tonight… I can't face them," Ana managed to whisper, her voice trembling. Her heart was beating rapidly, her chest tightening as she felt the familiar, overwhelming rush of a panic attack coming on.
Kate understood where Ana stood, she didn't want to push her friend, but sometimes she had to push her out of her comfort zone. "Ana, I know you're struggling," she said gently but firmly, placing a steadying hand on Ana's shoulder. "But we have to go. We already told them we would."
Ana shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. "I can't… I just can't do it, Kate."
Kate sighed, squeezing Ana's shoulder a little tighter. "Ana, listen to me. I know it's hard, and I know you're scared. But you can't keep running from these things. We both know that if we don't go, Christian will worry. You don't want to put him through that, do you?"
Ana's heart clenched at the thought of Christian. She hated the idea of causing him any worry or pain. "But what if I can't handle it? What if I break down in front of everyone?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kate's expression softened further, but her tone remained resolute. "Then I'll be there to help you through it. We'll get through it together. But avoiding it isn't going to make it better. You need to face this, for your own sake and Christian's."
Ana took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself. Kate's words were sinking in, the guilt of disappointing Christian weighing heavily on her mind. She knew Kate was right, but the fear and anxiety were almost too much to bear.
"Ana," Kate continued, her voice filled with a mix of empathy and determination, "you've come so far. You've been through so much, and you're stronger than you think. You can't let this beat you. You have people who love you and want to support you. Let us help."
Ana took a deep breath, trying to steady the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her. She knew she had promised Kate to go, but the anxiety still gripped her tightly, making the thought of facing the evening unbearable. It wasn't just about making a good impression on the Greys; it was about finding a moment of respite, a chance to gather her thoughts before stepping into a world that felt overwhelming.
"Okay," Ana whispered, her voice shaky but determined. "Why don't you and Ethan go ahead? I'm going to change again. One of us should be on time, and I want to make a good impression on the Greys."
Kate looked at her with concern, sensing the underlying tension. "Ana, are you sure? I can stay with you if you need me."
Ana forced a smile, masking the turmoil beneath the surface. "No, no, I'll be fine. Go enjoy the evening. I'll catch up with you later."
As Kate and Ethan left, Ana sank onto the couch, her mind racing with conflicting thoughts. Part of her felt guilty for staying behind, for not being able to push through her anxiety. But another part of her knew that taking a moment to breathe was essential, especially in the midst of everything she was dealing with.
She thought about Christian, about how he would react when he found out she hadn't gone. Would he understand, or would he be disappointed? The uncertainty gnawed at her, adding to the weight of her decision.
As she sat there, her phone buzzed with a reminder of her upcoming trip to Seattle. She had planned to leave in a few days, but now, with everything going on, she wondered if she should leave earlier. The idea of escaping the current chaos and finding solace in familiar surroundings tugged at her.
Ana picked up her phone, hesitating before making a decision. Leaving early meant facing the memories and pain that Seattle held, but it also meant a temporary escape from the pressures of her current situation. It was a difficult choice, one that she knew would have consequences either way.
After a moment of deliberation, Ana made up her mind. She would leave a few days early, giving herself time to process everything before facing the storm that awaited her in Seattle. It was a small step, but one that felt like a lifeline in the midst of uncertainty and turmoil.
Ethan's frustration simmered as he watched Kate pace, her agitation evident in every movement. It had been a year since the tragic loss of Ana's parents, a time marked by grief, healing, and moments of overwhelming sadness as well. The approaching anniversary weighed heavily on everyone, but Kate, of all people, should have been more sensitive to Ana's emotional state.
"Kate," Ethan spoke up, his tone tinged with frustration and a hint of sorrow. "I get that you wanted Ana to go. Honestly, we both did. But if you knew she was struggling. Why would you push her like that? And then to leave her alone when she's upset, that's not fair to her. You know what these next two weeks mean to her."
Kate stopped pacing, turning to face her brother with a mixture of defensiveness and guilt. "I know, Ethan. I don't need you making me feel worse!" She yelled back at him. She was already upset at herself. "I just thought she needed a push, you know? To get out of her head for a bit, to distract herself."
Ethan's gaze softened, but his concern remained palpable. "I understand, Kate. But today if she was struggling we shouldn't have left her. We have to be more mindful of that."
Kate sighed, her shoulders slumping as the weight of her actions settled in. "I know, I messed up. I just thought I was doing what was best for her." Kate sat down on the couch holding the letter Ana had left.
Kate and Ethan,
I hope this message reaches you both in good spirits. I want to start by saying how sorry I am for leaving abruptly without a proper explanation. By the time you receive this, I will have already boarded a plane, heading to New York, and from there, I'll be catching a flight to Seattle in the morning.
I know this decision may have upset you, Kate, and I sincerely apologize. Our conversation earlier made me realize that I couldn't continue avoiding this situation or my feelings. I needed to confront everything head-on, to face the memories, the pain, and the uncertainty that Seattle holds for me.
I hope you can understand that this isn't about running away or escaping. It's about taking the time and space I need to process everything that's happened, to find a sense of clarity and strength before I face the challenges that lie ahead.
Ethan, thank you for your understanding and support as well. I know this must be a difficult time for both of you, and I appreciate your friendship more than words can express. I'll keep an eye on Lizzy till you come back.
I promise to keep you updated on my journey and let you know how things are going. Please take care of yourselves, and know that I am thinking of you both. I'll be back in a few days. Do understand I need the space to be able to figure things out.
With love, Ana
Ethan stepped closer to Kate, a sense of compassion coloring his voice. "We all want what's best for Ana. But sometimes, that means being patient and understanding. She needed us to be there for her today, not push her into something she wasn't ready for."
Kate nodded, a sense of regret weighing heavily on her. "You're right, Ethan. I should have handled it differently. I'll reach out to her, and make sure she knows we're here for her whenever she's ready."
Ethan gave her a reassuring smile. "That's all we can do. Let's give her some time, and when she's ready, we'll be here."
As they stood together, the tension between them eased, replaced by a shared determination to be there for Ana in whatever way she needed. They knew that navigating Ana's emotions and struggles required patience, understanding, and above all, unwavering support, especially on days like today.
However, Ethan couldn't shake the feeling of unease about telling Christian that Ana had left. He knew Christian would be worried and upset, and Ethan didn't want to be the bearer of bad news. The thought gnawed at him, adding another layer of complexity to an already difficult situation. "We have to tell the Greys. I don't think Christian will buy much longer that she wasn't feeling good. I just don't know how to tell him why she left."
Kate let out a tight breath. "I've been trying to tell her to tell him. And now we'll have to somehow tell him she's gone without telling him why." Running her hand across her face, taking a deep breath, Kate picked up her phone and dialed Carrick's number. The phone rang a few times before Carrick answered, his voice calm yet with a hint of curiosity. "Hello, Kate. Is everything alright? Is Ana feeling any better?"
"Hi, Carrick. It's kinda about Ana…" Kate said, her tone serious. "She's left for Seattle. She didn't say anything to us, just left a note."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, and Kate could almost sense Carrick's concern growing. "Seattle? Why would she go there so early? Isn't the trial next week?" Carrick had known about Ana's parents passing because of Grace and put two and two together.
Kate hesitated, knowing she needed to explain. "I think she needed some time alone, especially with everything that's been going on. The anniversary of her parents' death is coming up, and the trial; I think it's been weighing on her." She didn't want to add anything about how pushy she'd become towards her friend.
Carrick's voice softened with understanding. "I see. It must be a difficult time for her, especially with the trial approaching." Carrick's tone turned somber. "I can imagine. It's a lot for anyone to bear."
Kate took a breath before continuing. "I also wanted to ask you, how should we tell Christian? He's going to be worried about Ana, especially if he finds out she's gone without a word. Plus she still hasn't told him about the trial and the murders."
Carrick paused, considering the best approach. "I'll talk to Christian. We'll handle it delicately, make sure he understands that Ana needed some space and time to herself."
Kate felt a sense of relief. "Thank you, Carrick. I just want to make sure Ana is okay and that Christian doesn't worry too much."
"I understand, Kate. We'll take care of it," Carrick reassured her.
As Kate hung up the phone, she couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. She was worried about Ana, but she also knew that Ana needed this time to heal and process everything. It was a delicate balance, one that required understanding and support from everyone involved. As for Christian, she hoped that Carrick would find the right words to explain Ana's sudden departure without revealing the painful truth about her parents' murders, a truth Christian had yet to learn.
As Ana stepped off the plane in Seattle, her eyes scanned the airport for familiar faces. She was surprised and comforted to see Lizzy, Ethan's wife, waiting for her at the arrival gate. Despite being heavily pregnant, Lizzy had a warm smile on her face, a reassuring presence that instantly eased Ana's anxiety.
"Ethan called ahead," Lizzy explained as she enveloped Ana in a gentle hug. "He knew you would need someone."
Ana returned the hug gratefully, feeling a wave of gratitude towards Ethan for his thoughtfulness. "Thank you for being here, Lizzy. I really appreciate it."
Lizzy chuckled softly. "Of course, Ana. We're family, after all. Now, let's get you back to your parents' house. It's all ready for you."
Ana nodded, feeling a mix of emotions as they made their way through the airport. She hadn't been back to her childhood home since the tragedy, and the thought of returning now, with so much weighing on her mind, was both daunting and strangely comforting.
As they drove through familiar streets towards the Steele family home, Ana found herself lost in memories. She remembered the laughter, the love, and the warmth that had once filled these walls. It was bittersweet, a reminder of what she had lost.
When they arrived, Ana took a deep breath, steeling herself for the flood of emotions that awaited her inside. Lizzy gave her a reassuring smile before helping her with her bags, knowing that Ana needed a moment to collect herself.
"Take all the time you need, Ana," Lizzy said gently. "We're here for you, always." Lizzy touched her swollen belly.
As Ana walked through the familiar rooms, the sunlight filtering through the curtains cast a nostalgic glow over the furniture and pictures adorning the walls. Each piece seemed to hold a story, a fragment of a life that was now a mix of cherished memories and painful reminders. The living room, once filled with laughter and family gatherings, now felt eerily silent. Ana traced her fingers along the edge of the coffee table, her mind flooded with images of happier times spent with her parents. The weight of their absence settled heavily on her shoulders, a constant presence she couldn't escape.
Lizzy's presence beside her was a source of comfort amidst the storm of emotions. Ana turned to her friend, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and sorrow. "You don't have to stay, Liz," she murmured softly, her voice tinged with vulnerability. "You have a home of your own, a family to take care of."
Lizzy's gaze softened, understanding shining in her eyes. "I know, Ana," she replied gently. "But this is important. This is the first time you've been back home since... since everything happened." Lizzy had been the first person in their group to have shown up because she was next door to her parent's house. The memory of Ana having blood on her hands still haunts Lizzy's memories.
Ana nodded, a lump forming in her throat as she fought back tears. "It's hard," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I have to do this. I need to face this pain before the trial."
Lizzy's hand found its way to Ana's shoulder, a silent gesture of solidarity. "And you won't face it alone," she assured her, her voice filled with unwavering support. "Ethan asked me to stay at least until he can get out here. He and Kate are worried about you, about the press finding out about you leaving early." Ana knew it wasn't responsible and probably should've been better about everything. But Ana's fight or flight added to her anxiety and she few. "After years of appeals its finally time for him to face everything."
Ana winced at the mention of the press, the relentless scrutiny they brought adding to her already mounting stress. "And Christian..." she trailed off, her thoughts drifting to him, thousands of miles away, oblivious to the turmoil she was grappling with.
Lizzy's expression softened further, a sympathetic smile playing on her lips. "Oh, Christian," she said with a hint of amusement. "Ethan mentioned that things were getting serious between you two. But he also mentioned that Christian doesn't know about your family..."
Ana's heart sank at the reminder of her hidden pain, the guilt of keeping such a significant part of her life concealed weighing heavily on her. "I know," she admitted, her voice filled with regret. "I just... I don't know how to tell him. How do you explain something like this?"
Lizzy squeezed Ana's shoulder gently, her eyes brimming with empathy. "You'll find the right time," she said softly. "And until then, you have us. We'll get through this together." Her words carried a promise of unwavering support, a reminder that amidst the pain and uncertainty, Ana had a steadfast friend by her side. "But for now Ana, worry about you and we'll go from there." Ana smiled at Lizzy who was always the voice of reason.
Ana's smile grew, a genuine expression of appreciation for her friend's wisdom and steadfastness. "You're always the voice of reason, Lizzy," she remarked, her tone filled with fondness.
Lizzy chuckled, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "Someone's got to keep Ethan, Kate and you outta trouble." she teased lightly. "But for now, Ana, worry about you and we'll go from there."
Ana nodded, a sense of determination settling within her. "I will," she affirmed, her gaze reflecting newfound resolve. "Thank you, Lizzy. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Lizzy's playful demeanor returned as she added, "Also, don't worry about the press. Daddy will chase them off with a gun. Sure will be a fun sight to see."
Ana couldn't help but laugh at the mention of Lizzy's father. He was known for his playful antics and protective nature, especially when it came to his family and friends. An ex-police officer turned neighborhood watch captain, he had a collection of guns that always sparked amusement and awe among the townspeople. "He knows how to make an entrance," Ana remarked with a smile, the tension easing slightly as she imagined the scene. "I'm glad he's on our side."
"Why don't you unpack and I'll order something for dinner? You must be exhausted and I didn't have time to get groceries here before my husband called me frantic about you." Lizzy's voice was soothing, filled with the kind of concern that made Ana feel cared for and understood.
Ana offered a small, tired smile. "Shouldn't you be resting, Lizzy? You are due soon."
Lizzy shrugged, rubbing her belly with a contented sigh. "I am resting. No work, remember? Plus, Daddy and Momma are right next door if I need them." Fausto and Wendy Applegate were indeed amazing people. Fausto, the former police chief of their small town, had been Ray's best friend. Wendy, a stay-at-home mom, had taken care of all the neighborhood kids, including Ana when their parents were at work.
"The only reason they aren't here right now is because I asked them to wait a few days till you get settled. But they will be by. You already know Momma is going to fill your fridge and stuff when you give her a chance," Lizzy added with a knowing smile.
Ana leaned against the staircase, a deep sigh escaping her lips. "I haven't turned my phone on since I left Ireland…" Her voice trailed off, the weight of her decision evident in her tone.
Lizzy glanced up, understanding in her eyes. "Ana, maybe keep it off for now. You can turn it on in a few days. Kate and Ethan know you're here, and Kate let Carrick know you're here too."
Ana nodded, appreciating Lizzy's practical advice. She wasn't ready to face the messages or the inevitable questions just yet. The thought of Christian, still in Ireland and unaware of her sudden departure, tugged at her heart. Lizzy's smile was reassuring as she returned her attention to ordering pizza. "Let's take it one step at a time, okay? Tonight, we'll just relax and have dinner. Tomorrow, we can start figuring things out."
Ana felt a sense of relief wash over her. With Lizzy's help and the support of the Applegates, she knew she could begin to face the challenges ahead. She headed upstairs to unpack, grateful for the small moments of peace that Lizzy's presence brought.
Walking upstairs, Ana paused at the top, her gaze fixed on the closed door of her parents' old room. The hallway was dimly lit, the soft light from the windows casting long shadows that seemed to dance on the walls. Each step she took felt heavy, the weight of memories pressing down on her shoulders.
She stood in front of the door, her hand trembling as she reached for the doorknob. The familiar scent of her parents' room wafted through the small gap, a mix of her mother's perfume and her father's aftershave, evoking a rush of bittersweet memories.
Taking a deep breath, Ana pushed the door open slowly. The room was just as they had left it, preserved in time by Ethan's diligent care. The bed was neatly made, the floral bedspread her mother loved so much still in place. Her father's reading glasses rested on the nightstand, alongside a well-worn copy of his favorite book.
Ana stepped inside, the air thick with the presence of her parents. She could almost hear her mother's laughter and her father's gentle voice, feel the warmth of their love enveloping her. Tears welled up in her eyes as she moved deeper into the room, her fingers brushing against the familiar objects that held so many memories.
Her gaze landed on a framed photograph on the dresser – a picture of her parents on their anniversary, smiling and radiant with happiness. Ana picked it up, her fingers tracing the outline of their faces. The pain of their loss surged through her, a raw ache that seemed to grow with each passing moment.
Lizzy's words echoed in her mind, a reminder that she wasn't alone in this. She had friends and loved ones who would stand by her side, helping her navigate the difficult path ahead. But in this moment, surrounded by the tangible remnants of her parents' lives, Ana allowed herself to grieve, to feel the depth of her sorrow and the weight of her memories.
Downstairs, she could hear Lizzy moving around, chatting on the phone as she ordered their dinner. The simple, domestic sounds were a balm to Ana's frayed nerves, a reminder that despite everything, life continued on. When she finished unpacking, Ana joined Lizzy in the kitchen. "Thank you," she said quietly, her gratitude evident in her eyes.
Lizzy waved off her thanks with a warm smile. "That's what friends are for. Now, let's enjoy a quiet evening and some pizza. We can tackle everything else tomorrow."
Ana woke up the next morning to the sound of rain outside. She hadn't been home in so long that she almost forgot how beautiful it was to wake up to that sound. Rubbing her face, Ana slowly got out of bed and headed to her bathroom. Grabbing her toothbrush she began to brush her teeth. Last night Ana and Lizzy had stayed up talking.
As the pizza arrived and the aroma filled the kitchen, Ana and Lizzy settled down at the small, cozy dining table. The room was filled with a warm, golden light that casts a comforting glow over everything. Lizzy handed Ana a slice of pizza, her eyes twinkling with excitement.
"So, have you thought about names yet?" Ana asked, taking a bite of her pizza and savoring the cheesy goodness.
Lizzy laughed, rubbing her belly affectionately. "Oh, we've been through so many names! Ethan likes traditional names, but I'm leaning towards something a bit more unique. We're still debating, but we have a shortlist." Lizzy was excited to finally be at the end. She'd enjoyed everything but was ready to be able to move a bit faster after this baby was out.
Ana smiled, feeling a little lighter as they talked about the baby. "I can't wait to meet him or her. You and Ethan are going to be amazing parents."
Lizzy's expression softened. "Thank you, Ana. It's still a bit surreal, you know? But we're really excited. I just want everything to go smoothly."
"It will," Ana assured her. "You're going to be just fine. And you've got the whole Applegate clan ready to help out."
Lizzy chuckled. "True. I think Momma's already planning on spoiling this baby rotten. She's been knitting non-stop since we told her. Though Daddy is terrified if it's a girl; pretty sure she'll never find a man after he gets his hand on her."
Ana laughed, picturing Wendy's endless enthusiasm. "That sounds like her. She's always been such a nurturer. And Fausto is probably going to be ten times worse than when he met Ethan."
They ate in companionable silence for a moment, savoring the comfort of each other's company. The pizza was warm and delicious, and the simple act of sharing a meal made Ana feel a bit more grounded.
Lizzy glanced at Ana with a more serious expression. "How are things with Christian? Ethan told me a bit, but I want to hear it from you."
Ana took a deep breath, considering her words carefully. "It's been…amazing. He's so different from anyone I've ever met. He's kind, attentive, and just…I don't know, he makes me feel safe." Ana knew it was a weird statement given that she'd still kept everything about her parents' death. But she didn't want any more sympathy and honestly didn't want him to know about her crazy ex.
Lizzy's eyes lit up with happiness for her friend. "That's wonderful to hear, Ana. You deserve someone who makes you feel that way."
Ana nodded, her expression thoughtful. "I just haven't told him about my parents yet. I don't know how to bring it up, and now with everything happening, it feels even harder."
Lizzy reached across the table, taking Ana's hand in hers. "You'll find the right time. And when you do, he'll understand. If he's as great as you say, he'll support you no matter what."
Ana squeezed Lizzy's hand, grateful for her friend's reassurance. "I hope so. He's been really patient and understanding about everything else. I just don't want to overwhelm him."
Lizzy smiled warmly. "You won't. He cares about you, Ana. Just take it one step at a time. Focus on what you need to do here, and everything else will fall into place."
Ana took another bite of her pizza, feeling a little more at ease. "Thank you, Lizzy. I'm really glad you're here."
"Always," Lizzy replied, her voice full of sincerity. "Now, let's finish this pizza before it gets cold. And maybe later, we can watch one of those cheesy rom-coms you love so much."
Ana laughed, the sound light and genuine. "That sounds perfect."
As they continued their meal, the conversation flowed easily, filled with laughter and shared memories. Lizzy recounted some of the more amusing moments of her pregnancy, like Ethan trying to assemble the crib and nearly giving up in frustration, only to find out he'd been looking at the wrong instructions the entire time. Ana laughed, the stress of the past days starting to lift.
"How is he handling the impending fatherhood?" Ana asked, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.
"Oh, he's a nervous wreck," Lizzy admitted with a chuckle. "But he's also incredibly excited. I think he's more ready than he realizes. Every time he talks about the baby, he gets this look in his eyes. It's really sweet."
Ana smiled warmly. "You two are going to be great parents. That baby is so lucky to have you both."
Lizzy looked down, her expression growing serious. "We're lucky to have you, too, Ana. Don't forget that. You're family to us."
Ana felt a lump form in her throat. "Thank you, Lizzy. That means a lot to me."
After they finished eating, Lizzy suggested they move to the living room. They curled up on the couch with a blanket and selected a rom-com from Ana's favorite collection. As the movie played, Ana felt a sense of normalcy she hadn't experienced in a while. The familiar plotlines and light-hearted humor were a welcome distraction from her heavy thoughts.
At one point, Lizzy turned to Ana, her voice gentle. "Have you thought about what you're going to do when Christian finds out you left?"
Ana sighed, staring at the screen but not seeing it. "I'm not sure. I guess I'll have to explain everything when I get back. I just didn't want to face it all at once. I needed to come here and deal with this first. The trial is enough to just keep my focus here."
Lizzy nodded understandingly. "He'll understand. And we'll be here for you, every step of the way."
As the evening wore on, Ana felt a bit more at peace. Surrounded by the love and support of her friend, she knew she had the strength to face whatever came next. For now, she allowed herself to relax, enjoying the moment and the comfort it brought.
Spitting out the toothpaste, Ana came back to reality. "Stupid TV people." Ana walked into her parents' spare room to see a very upset pregnant friend. "I hate that people are always speculating something."
Ana peered into the room and was hit with one of her fears.

The rising star of 'First Burn' appeared distraught as she made her way through the terminal, hurriedly wiping away tears, sparking immediate speculation about potential trouble in her high-profile relationship with co-star Christian Grey. Eyewitnesses at the airport noted her emotional state, with one individual commenting, "She looked really upset, like she had been crying. I felt bad for her. Everyone was wondering if something happened between her and Christian."
The couple has captivated fans since they were first seen together at various events, quickly becoming a beloved pairing both on and off the screen. However, Ana's solo appearance and apparent distress have led to questions about the state of their relationship. "I don't know how you deal with this… I'd be losing my mind," Lizzy admitted as she turned off the TV, her expression a mix of concern and disbelief. "To know they don't care about your privacy."
Ana sighed, running a hand through her hair. "It's hard," she said softly, the weight of the constant scrutiny pressing down on her. "But I guess you get used to it, in a way. You learn to block it out, to focus on the things that matter." Ana truly didn't care what the media did with their information all she cared about was her closest friends knew who she was and knew the truth.
Lizzy shook her head, still baffled by the idea. "I just can't imagine. They makeup stories, invade your personal space, and then expect you to just go along with it."
Ana nodded, her eyes distant. "Yeah, it's invasive. And the worst part is when they get it wrong when they twist things to make it more dramatic. It's exhausting."
Lizzy reached out, placing a comforting hand on Ana's arm. "You're stronger than I am, that's for sure. I'd be in tears every day."
A small smile tugged at Ana's lips. "It's not always easy, but I have people like you and Ethan to keep me grounded. And Christian… he's been supportive."
Lizzy's expression softened at the mention of Christian. "He seems like a good guy. I hope he's worth all this chaos."
Ana looked down, her smile fading slightly. "He is. He is. But sometimes I wonder if I'm dragging him into too much."
Lizzy shook her head firmly. "Don't think like that. If he cares about you, he'll understand and stand by you. And from what I've seen, he does."
Ana took a deep breath, nodding. "You're right. I just need to remember that. And maybe… maybe it's time I tell him everything. About my parents, about why I left Ireland so suddenly."
Lizzy squeezed her arm gently. "When you're ready, he'll be ready to listen. Just take it one step at a time. Right now, let's focus on you. We'll get through this together."
Ana looked at Lizzy, her heart swelling with gratitude. "Thank you, Liz. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Lizzy smiled warmly. "You'll never have to find out."
Ana paused for a moment, her gaze drifting towards the window. "I've been thinking… I want to visit my parents' graves while I'm here. It's been so long, and I feel like I need to see them, to talk to them."
Lizzy's eyes softened further, understanding the depth of Ana's pain. "Of course. Whenever you're ready, we'll go together. You shouldn't have to face that alone either."
Ana shook her head gently, a determined look in her eyes. "Thank you, Liz, but I think I need to do this alone. It's something I have to do for myself, to come to terms with everything."
Lizzy nodded, respecting Ana's decision. "I understand. Just know that we're here for you, whenever you need us."
Ana smiled gratefully. "I know. And having Kate, you, and Ethan here means everything to me."
With a sense of resolve settling over her, Ana knew that visiting her parents' graves would be a step towards healing, a private moment of reflection and connection that she needed to experience on her own. The rain outside added to the somber mood, the droplets tracing melancholic paths down the windowpane.
"But for now, let's have breakfast and we can talk about getting the crib together before Ethan and Kate get back. We'll really confuse him," Ana said with a small smirk, trying to lighten the atmosphere.
As they sat down for breakfast, the cozy kitchen filled with the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries. Ana and Lizzy discussed plans for the day, including setting up the crib for Lizzy's impending arrival.
After breakfast, Ana said her goodbyes to Lizzy, thanking her for everything. "I'll call if I need anything," Ana promised, feeling grateful for Lizzy's presence and support.
Stepping out into the rain, Ana felt a mix of emotions swirling inside her. The cool droplets fell gently on her skin, a stark contrast to the warmth of the kitchen she had just left. She made her way to the car, the pitter-patter of rain providing a rhythmic backdrop to her thoughts.
As she drove towards the cemetery, memories flooded her mind. She remembered the last time she had been here, the pain still raw and overwhelming. But today was different. Today, she came with a purpose, a determination to find closure and peace in the midst of her turbulent emotions.
The cemetery was quiet, the rain creating a soft, soothing ambiance. Ana walked among the gravestones, feeling a sense of connection and longing as she approached her parents' resting place. She stood there for a while, letting the rain wash away some of the pain and sorrow, allowing herself to grieve and remember.
Taking a deep breath, Ana stood in front of the headstones engraved with her mother and father's names, feeling a mix of sorrow and uncertainty wash over her. She traced the letters of their names with her fingertips, the cold stone a stark reminder of their absence. "Do people just talk to a headstone?" she whispered to herself, her voice carrying a hint of vulnerability. "Does it somehow make them feel better?"
As if in response to her words, a voice nearby spoke up. Ana's eyes lifted to see a woman, dressed in a flowing green maxi dress with her hair elegantly tied up in a simple bun, standing not too far away. The woman's warm smile and gentle demeanor immediately put Ana at ease, despite the heaviness in her heart. "I'm assuming you're just talking out loud?" the woman asked, her tone kind and understanding.
Ana nodded, feeling a sense of relief at the stranger's understanding. "Yeah, sorry... It's my first time here..." Her gaze dropped to the ground, unsure of how to navigate this emotional moment.
The mystery woman introduced herself as Brittany, extending her hand in a gesture of kindness. "I come once a month. My grandpa is buried here. I… I get it." Her eyes held a depth of understanding that resonated with Ana's pain.
"Ana," she replied softly, shaking Brittany's hand briefly before releasing it.
Brittany shared a bit about her visits to the cemetery, her voice tinged with both sadness and acceptance. "Some people just sit here and talk to their loved ones as if they're still here," she explained. "Some cry and yell at God, asking him whys. Some just sit here quietly and have silent conversations."
Ana's eyes returned to her parents' grave, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. "What do you do?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
A few tears escaped Brittany's eyes as she spoke, her vulnerability mirroring Ana's own. "I talk to my grandpa," she admitted. "I tell him things he's missing and try to keep him updated on my life or my cousins' lives. Sometimes it helps… Sometimes it hurts." She offered Ana a reassuring smile. "It's okay to not know what to say to them. They won't judge you… they just need to know you're here to see them."
Ana felt a lump form in her throat, touched by Brittany's openness and understanding. "This is the first time I've been back since their deaths..." Her voice wavered with emotion. "Do you think they hate me?" The question hung in the air, laden with guilt and uncertainty.
Brittany's gaze softened, her own experiences lending wisdom to her response. "Grief is a complex journey," she began, her voice gentle yet firm. "It's filled with moments of doubt, guilt, and pain. But it's also about healing and acceptance." She paused, searching Ana's eyes with empathy. "Your parents loved you, Ana. They wouldn't want you to carry this burden of guilt. Grief isn't about being perfect or having all the answers. It's about allowing yourself to feel, to remember, and to find ways to honor their memory."
Ana listened intently, absorbing Brittany's words like a lifeline in the storm of her emotions. "How do you deal with it?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Brittany smiled softly. "Some days are harder than others, I struggled a lot after he died with guilt. We went through a lot when I was a kid, so when he passed I was angry at myself," she admitted. "I hated thinking that there was a chance he didn't know how much I loved him. That I'm sorry for every missed opportunity to spend time with him because I couldn't get over a stupid comment I knew he didn't mean." Tears started to fall again, Ana understood where Brittany was coming from. She'd felt guilt over not spending time with her parents; prioritizing everything except her family. "But I've learned to find comfort in the memories, in the moments we shared. I write letters to my grandpa sometimes, telling him about my day or sharing stories that I know would make him laugh. It's my way of keeping him close." Brittany looked down at the gravestone and sighed, the pain was there, and the hurt mirrored Ana's. "I know now after years of my grief, he loved me, he knew how much I loved him and what he meant to me. He was proud of who I became. My family reminds me every time I struggle."
Ana nodded, a glimmer of understanding dawning in her eyes. "Thank you, Brittany," she said sincerely. "I needed to hear that."
Brittany squeezed Ana's hand gently. "Anytime," she replied with a warm smile. "Remember, grief is a journey, and you're not alone in it. Reach out to your family and friends when you need to, talk, cry, laugh... It's all part of healing." Ana nodded.
As they stood together in the rain, sharing their stories and vulnerabilities, a bond of understanding formed between Ana and Brittany. They spoke of memories, of laughter and tears, finding solace in each other's presence amidst the solemn atmosphere of the cemetery. As they parted ways, Ana felt a newfound sense of acceptance and peace, knowing that she wasn't alone in her journey of grief and healing.
Standing at her parents' grave alone, Ana felt something tug at her heart. She could feel him before he even got close enough to her. Ana sighed as the rain fell around her. "Last year, I came home from filming, and something was off the second I got to the front door. My mom's home was always filled with music; you could hear it the second you drove up the driveway. But all you could hear were the crickets…"
"You don't have to tell me…" Christian's voice was gentle, his concern evident.
Ana shook her head, determined to continue. "I found my dad first, lying on the couch in his pajamas. Blood was dripping down his neck. James had slit his throat and stabbed him four times in the chest. I was in a panic, looking for my mom, but I could smell the metallic scent of blood as I moved toward the kitchen. There she was…"
Her voice broke as the memory flooded back. "She was lying in a pool of blood, her body littered with stab wounds. She was always my biggest champion, and there she was, gone. I screamed, but it was too late. It was my fault. They wouldn't tell him where I was. They wouldn't save themselves they just wanted to protect me." Tears streamed down her face, mixing with the rain. "I have to testify this week. That's why your dad gave me a few days off. I couldn't face your family knowing that I had to do this. I couldn't tell you about my family because it scared me how quickly and closely we'd become. It scared me because what if they don't convict him and he comes after the one person in my life I don't want to live without. I can't go through this again…"
Christian took a step closer, his presence steady and reassuring. "Ana, you're not alone in this. I'm here for you, every step of the way."
Ana finally turned to look at him, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and determination. "I didn't want to burden you with this. It's been so hard to carry on my own."
Christian reached out, gently wiping away her tears. "You don't have to carry it alone anymore. You have to stop thinking this is one-sided. I'm here…I'm not just going to let you go into this alone…"
Ana nodded, feeling a flicker of hope amidst the overwhelming grief. "Thank you, Christian. How did you know where I was?"
Christian wrapped his arms around Ana, "When you didn't show up after a while, Kate told us you weren't feeling good. When they left I knew something wasn't right. I went back to the hotel and ran into Ethan. He told me you had come to Seattle and if I felt the way he knew I did, I should get on a plane. My dad lent me his jet and I was in the air. I got in and Ethan's wife told me where you might be. I didn't want to interrupt you, but I felt your pull. I couldn't resist being close to you."
"Your siblings must think I'm a mess," Ana admitted as Christian took her hand. It was a calming sensation. "I'm sorry I left."
Christian shook his head squeezing her hand. "They understood. Though I do wish you would've seen the look on Kate's face when she saw Elliot. I guess they had a thing years ago. Small world."
Ana smiled leaning against his arm. "I'll have to ask her about it." When they stared down at the grave Ana said a silent prayer to both her parents as she leaned into his embrace, Ana felt a sense of relief wash over her. For the first time since that horrific day, she felt like she wasn't carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders alone. She didn't want to let go, he made things melt away. "Can we go? I'm a little overwhelmed and I just want to go." Christian nodded taking her in his arms. All he wanted was to give Ana the world, but for now, he'd settle for giving her the time she needed to heal.
The drive back to her childhood home was quiet, but it wasn't uncomfortable quiet it was just enough to keep them from diving deeper into pain she wasn't ready for at the moment. "I should warn you though, Kate and Ethan flew back with me. Ethan picked up his wife and took both her and Kate to their home. They didn't want to overwhelm you after everything…" She ran away, that's exactly what she did years ago. "It's okay to need space."
Not wanting to discuss it anymore Ana just stared out the window trying to process the last few days. This day had been so overwhelming, and these next few days weren't going to be any easier. The trial, the media finding out everything… facing this man. Looking at Christian as he drove them, Ana felt a sting of something she'd never felt with anyone. Taking his hand she squeezed it tightly. Glancing over, Christian just smiled squeezing her hand tightly. He loved her and wanted to keep her safe and would do anything to support and love her through all of this. When the time was right, he'd tell her.
So a little back story, in 2021 my grandpa passed away and I struggled with his passing, He was an amazing man. The conversation between Brittany (Me) and Ana was truly how I struggled with his passing. I think this is important for Ana because grief truly affects a person in the long run. It is the reason it took me a while to write this chapter. It brought back painful memories of my own grief. It's hard to put it out there for people to read... but I came to terms with it enough to share it with all of you!
