Severus Snape walked up many staircases, listening to the rain's soft drabbles outside.
There was no anger in him. He felt oddly calm, yet not at peace, because of the pit of sadness in him. He walked matching the slow, equal rhythm of the dripping rain outdoors.
But something caught his eye. Red hair. Severus began to walk faster, ignoring how the rain's dripping corresponded to his pace. A strange warmth filled him, by the name of hope.
Perhaps, if he tried apologizing again, Lily would forgive him?
"Lily?" Severus said, upon reaching the Astronomy Tower.
Lily spun around, the momentary kindness he saw in her eyes vanished, replaced with a scarring coldness, resembling the ones in Lucius's eyes, with a single difference. They hurt more.
"What do you want, Snape? It's past curfew." She stated, not a hint of regret in her voice.
Snape? Did she simply forget their friendship? Severus bit his lip, trying not to let the dark, wicked anger control him.
"It's past curfew, and yet you're here." Severus said.
"I'm patrolling!" She said, but both of them knew it was a lie, "What do you want? If it's an apology, I don't forgive you, as I already told you!"
"But why, Lily? I only said one word, and suddenly you're throwing away our whole friendship!" Severus exclaimed.
"Don't you understand?" Lily said, raising her voice. "I'm not throwing away our friendship! You've said that word numerous times to so many muggles! It only proves that you're leaning towards the Deatheaters!"
"So what if I am?" Severus said as the once soothing rain reminded him of bittersweet arguments, "You could join me."
A wave of shock covered Lily's face, but it quickly became disgust. "Are you out of your mind? The Deatheaters kill muggles! You don't even deny you want to be with them. It's the opposite, Severus! If you truly cared about me, join my side!"
"Your side doesn't accept me!" Severus exclaimed. What was wrong with her?!
"Your side doesn't accept me either! But at least mine wouldn't kill you. At least mine don't use Dark Magic!" Lily shouted.
What? Her side, didn't want to murder him? They had lied to her. Potter would love to kill him for such idiotic reasons, and Lily still sided with him! His bully! She didn't care about their friendship...Potter was an obnoxious, overconfident git who thought himself higher than others!
"Oh really? Since the last time I checked, Potter would love to kill me, and yet you're siding with him!" Severus said rudely.
"First of all, don't bring anyone else into this mess! You're pointing fingers because you won't take the consequences and the blame of your own actions! Secondly, I'm siding with whose right!" Lily argued.
"My own actions? So Potter didn't do anything to me, did he? I told you you're throwing our friendship away!" Severus accused.
She was blaming him for something the toerag had caused. Severus tried to calm down, but the rain's vicious pouring was angering him, reminding him of the days of torture he had spent.
"As I said, you won't take any blame! You're accusing me, but you never think of your own actions do you? You threw our friendship away for your Slytherin pride and those filthy Deatheaters! You're changing, and you're becoming worse." She said angrily,
"I did not! On the contrary, I sacrificed my Slytherin pride for our friendship! You don't accept me as much as those Gryffindoors don't. I'm changing, but all you can see are the negative points You're too blind to see anything good in me, because you're too focused —"
"On Potter? Since when have I been friends with him? Now you've become so rotten you create lies you know are not true!" Lily exclaimed, "I don't like what you're becoming. I've tried giving you and our friendship so many chances, but they failed, because you never tried doing the same for me!"
Tears were now filling her eyes, tears of anger. Minuscule droplets of rain flew in, but outside a storm could be heard, and the rain was slowing now.
"What do you mean?" Severus asked in confusion, "I tried giving you chances to accept me."
"To accept you? No, you were supposed to see my point of view. I tried seeing yours, Severus, and I tried making you see mine, but you refused! You refuse to change for the sake of our friendship! I hate what you're becoming!"
Severug gulped, her words seeping in, creating tears in his eyes. His vision slowly became blurry. She hates what I want to be...she hates me.
"But Lily, I am really sorry for calling you a Mudblood." Severus said, "I really mean it, and you refuse to see that!
Lily scoffed. "Refuse? Severus, you were laughing when Mulciber called Mary that. And now you say you're sorry? I'm a muggle too!"
"But you're different!" Severus exclaimed.
She was different then all of those muggles. Lily was more important. She was better than all of them!
"Different how? How am I different? Severus, I'm a muggle." Lily said, "You said that you would accept me no matter what blood I was —"
"And I do!" Severus exclaimed as the rain terminated its heavy pouring. Now, one sinister drop could be heard every few seconds.
"Then why did you call me a Mudblood? Why do you still accept the fact that your so-called friends call me and other muggles the same name?"
"I didn't mean it!" Severus exclaimed. "It —"
Lily scoffed again. "Slipped out? Severus, why are you even friends with those jerks?!"
"And why are you friends with a werewolf?" Severus asked, cruelty evident in his voice.
"Remus may be a werewolf, but that is something far out of his control, while those deatheaters you call friends can control what they say and how they act!" Lily exclaimed.
"Fine. But then why are you friends with him if he lets his friends bully me, even though he's a damned prefect!" Severus accused.
"I...he's changing!" Lily said, "He's willing to change, unlike you!"
"Those are all a bunch of lies, Lily! Open your eyes!" Severus said, trying to bring agreement.
"No, Severus. You open yours. You've changed, and I hate what you are! And for crying out loud," Lily yelled using some muggle saying, "Tell me how I'm different!
"You're different!" Severus said, without answering her question.
She scoffed in disbelief. "And why is that?!"
"It's b - because...I love you!" Severus finally admitted.
A wave of shock hit her, but before he could blink, it turned to disgust. Why did he even admit it?
Severus paled as she began talking once more.
"I - I don't. This can't happen, and anything between us has to go. You've changed, and I loathe those changes." Lily said, "Honestly, if you even loved me, you wouldn't pick them over me!"
Severus paled and his vision blurred, a blanket of tears creating a hazy, opaque sight, although he could see Minerva McGonagall enter the room.
"What are you two doing here?!" The professor intervened in a surprised yet stern tone, "Mrs. Evans, it is not your shift, therefore, why aren't you in your dorms rather than yelling?"
Severus wiped the tears out of his eyes with his wet sleeves. Lily, as he did, stayed silent.
"A week of detention and sixty points from Slytherin. And as much as I hate to say it, eighty points for Gryffindor, since you're a prefect. Mrs. Evans, come with me at this instant! Mr. Snape, your dorm." She said before leaving.
"See what you've done?" Lily said coldly, careless of his feelings. She gave him a glare of hatred.
"Don't talk to me, Deatheater." Lily said before following the professor's footsteps.
Deatheater?
Severus didn't go to the common room. Instead, he sank and sat by one of the openings, letting the cold air hit him.
He's willing to change, unlike you.
I loathe those changes.
Deatheater...
The tears he had tried to terminate flowed out of his eyes and the rain flew in. Severus didn't bother covering himself or leaving. Instead, he stayed. Lily hated him. There was no chance for him...
Why had he spilled what was not meant to be spoken?
Idiot.
What else mattered if she...
If Lily despised him...
Perhaps he would become a Deatheater because it was the only choice he had...even if he proved Lily right. What mattered anyway, when it was a fault of his he couldn't change.
