In a dark forest, a crumbled castle stood alone, brambles and trees growing out of it. "Oracion Seis, Grimoire Heart, Tartaros…" A masked man holding a staff spoke up. "The Balam Alliance fall symbolizes the end of the Dark Guild era. From this point onward, it is the start of the Avatar era. For a world that belongs to Zeref."
The others around the table repeated the creed as Briar looked across at Gray Fullbuster, black markings covering half of his body. "For a world that belongs to Zeref."
Briar and the blonde member Jerome left the master's chambers and came face to face with another member, Mary. "Grandpa Alok didn't listen to you, did he?" She asked with a chuckle. "Why won't that stubborn bastard die already?"
"Shut up, you wicked little thing." Briar snapped back.
"That's a mean thing to say, Briar, and you know it!" The younger member snapped back.
"If the council caught wind of our plans, then that means we're in trouble." A bald member, Gomon, added.
"The council itself isn't the problem." Jerome declared. "What's really the problem is exactly how did they find out about it…"
"We've got a spy among us." Gray declared, leaning against the wall. "And you think its me."
"Well, you did come from the 'best' light guild on the continent." Mary pointed out.
"We've done our research on you, Gray Fullbuster." Jerome declared. "Your entire family was killed by a demon from the book of Zeref. And then your teacher was killed as well, just by getting involved. To top it off, you have nothing that would prove your loyalty to Lord Zeref. I don't understand why you're here."
"Jerome, that's enough." Briar spoke up.
"It's okay, Briar." Gray said. "Let me make one thing clear since he wants to know. I'm here for the book of E.N.D. That's my reason and purpose." His words shocked the group as he continued his rage. "As long as I have that book, I don't give a damn about anything or anyone else."
'Such darkness…' Briar thought to herself in fear. 'His thirst for revenge has covered his mind and body in darkness…'
"I've long forgotten about that guild." Gray continued. "All I need to do is destroy E.N.D. That is my whole reason for living. And to do that, I'll do whatever it takes. Even if it means using you all. So until then, we'll be comrades."
He turned and walked away from the group as Mary leaned out from behind the bald member. "There's no way someone that hateful could be a spy of the council." She chuckled in a mix of fear and respect.
Briar nodded and turned away before Jerome spoke up. "Have you considered my offer?" He asked. "You and I?"
"Another time." She replied, walking away. Soon enough, she reached her room and found a robed member standing there. "You can take that ridiculous hood off now."
The person took the hood off, revealing wavy light blue hair and brown eyes. "Had to be careful." Levy replied with a chuckle. "So have you found anything?"
"No, nothing new." Briar told the Council worker. "We still plan to attack the town, but Alok still hasn't explained why this will summon Zeref to us. Even to the highest members, he still avoids the question…" She mumbled before noticing the look on Levy's face. "Something wrong?"
"Just wondering… why are you helping me?" Levy asked.
"Let's just say I have my reasons." Before the Script Mage could ask her ro explain, the entire building shook catching the girl's attention. "Get out, I'll see what that was." Brair told Levy before she rushed to the basement.
Reaching the prison, she found the other members standing over Rogue Cheney and his pet cat, frog, whatever it was. "What is it?"
"Nothing much." Mary chuckled. "Someone snuck in here, and they ran into Gray. And now we have some fun playthings."
"Enough talking." Alok declared, looking down on the cuffed pair. "Throw them in a cell. Gomon, see what you can lean from them. The rest of you prepare yourselves. We head out at once. Everything we do, we do for Zeref."
Malba Town
Every single member of Avatar stood on a cliff, over looking the town. It wasn't just the branch with Gray, either. All of the branches from all of Fiore had come together for this grim task. "Where is Gray?" Jerome asked the dark skinned woman.
"With the prisoners, perhaps." She suggested.
"Why bother? He's one of us now." He said back.
"Nobody cares, blondie." Briar declared, looking around them both. "Look at the number of followers we have here. Everyone is here just for the ritual. So even if there is a traitor or the council comes, there's no way they'll win with our numbers."
"You have a point." He mumbled.
"It's starting…" Mary said with wonder.
"The purification ritual will begin with Malba Town." Alok spoke with a commanding presence. "This town has no sin. And its population of 30,000 continue their daily lives without an inkling of what's to come. I'm positive this purity will bring our savior here. Zeref, the Black Wizard! Accept this offering of 30,000 souls so that we may walk beside you!"
"Begin!" He thrusted his staff into the air and the mob roared before it charged into battle. So sooner had they reached the town door than they were blasted back by a purple energy. In the center, they could see four figures standing at the entrance.
"Come and get it!" Erik declared, behind him Lucy, Rouge and Gray.
"Get them, you idiots!" Jerome shouted.
"S-sir! We're being attacked from behind as well!" A hooded member shouted.
"What!? The council's forces are already here!?" He asked in shock.
"Th-that… it was only one…" He declared, scaring the pair.
"Jerome, go deal with them." Briar ordered. "I'll handle the front lines."
"Understood." The blonde drew his black sword and raced towards the rear.
"Let's show these fools the power of dark magic." Briar declared before they charged the front line. She rushed at the battlefield before jumping over a frozen member. "GRAY!"
"Briar!" The Ice Mage snapped out.
"You'd betray us, Gray!?" Briar growled before rushing him. He prepared to fight her, only to be shocked when she rushed by him and kicked an Avatar member in the face. "Guess that makes two traitors." She chuckled.
"What the…?" Gray asked in confusion.
"You didn't think you were the only one against this mass murder, were you?" Briar asked, her body glowing before she suddenly split into four copies. "I'd focus more on that murderous aura behind you right now."
Gray froze in place as he slowly turned around, Juvia glaring at him. "Juvia, what are you-?"
"Saving you, my love!" The Water Mage spun and blasted the cult back with pressurized water. "Now who was that tramp you were talking to!?"
"Honestly, I have no idea…" He mumbled before the two were forced to put the conversation on hold for the battle.
As Briar and her clones battled her former allies, taking out Abel and the masked freak, a massive storm gathered overhead. She recalled her clones and reached a small outlook to see a massive, heavily muscular being with black, armor-like skin land on the ground. The face resembles that of a lion's, jutting out of his cheekbones were two horns which in and of themselves are eclipsed by bone-like horns that encase the jawline, and travel up the side of the head.
On his chin is a long, pointed tuft of facial hair that appears to be a goatee, and a wild mane of hair juts upwards, growing from the top of his down past his clavicle. The massive being also had pupil-less eyes and black sclera, and demonic, clawed hands and bestial-looking feet.
"The war god… Ikusa-Tsunagi…" She mumbled as she watched the beast swing its sword, culling the cult members. "So that was his plan all along… Arlok was going to use us as sacrifices… The creep thinks this is what will get Zeref to show up." She looked as hard as she could and saw two people running along the blade onto his face.
Seconds later, a massive blast of poison and shadow exploded out of the war god, causing it to crumble into ash. "I was right to leave this to you, Fairy Tail." Brair declared as she turned around, walking away before an orb floated in front of her.
It glowed before Ultear appeared in the orb, concern on her face. 'What are the results?"
"Arlok and his army are defeated." Briar reported. "The brats from Fairy Tail and Sabretooth actually managed to kill god as it were."
"You seem disappointed."
"I was hoping I could get to fight more." The dark skinned woman confessed, her mark changing into the Crime Sorciere emblem. "The few I did barely put up any challenge."
"You should be grateful for that." The chronomancer replied. "You're one of our best fighters, we can't afford to have you taken out before this war even starts. Come back to base so we can prepare for what's next." The image faded and the orb flew away, leaving Briar to overlook the battlefield.
One Week Later
Ocean
After a failed attempt to contact a spy on Caracole Island, Erza and her team suddenly arrived at an underwater temple, much to the two Dragon Slayers' joy. The entire building started shaking before a massive cannon erupted from the top. Four spider legs grew out of the side and it started crawling forward.
"Welcome aboard the Olympia." The group turned around to see Sorano sitting on a throne, a two piece feathery dress covering her body while also showing off her Guild Mark and her mating mark. "Captain Sorano, at your service."
"ANGEL!?" Lucy was in shock at the revelation while Erza turned to Mest in anger.
"Is he-"
"Present and accounted for." The redhead turned to see Salamander step out, a white eyepatch on his face. Clad in black and gold like always, his right arm was covered in wraps as he looked down at Erik and Wendy. "Pathetic…"
"You…" She growled in anger as she marched over and threw a punch, only for Natsu to catch it.
"Didn't even need my magic to see that coming." He declared. "Look, I get your whole 'revenge' thing, I really do. But I'm not in the mood for this now, and I am definitely not going to say sorry for anything I have or haven't done." He twisted her hand away from him to look her in the face. "So you're just gonna have to stop trying to kill me until AFTER we end this empire."
He pushed her hand away and walked over to Angel. "The sooner we're done with this, the better."
"Agreed." His main mate replied before pulling Lucy in by the bikini. "Never forget, I'm the one who killed Karen."
"That's enough, you two." Mest spoke up, making the girl let go.
"W-where are we going…?" Wendy asked from the ground.
"We're headed to Makarov, of course." Sorano chuckled, shocking the group.
"You know where the master is?" Erza asked.
"Never underestimate our intelligence network." Two hooded figures stepped forward before one took her hood, revealing a mop of purple hair. "Come on, take it off." The other did the same, revealing short white hair.
"Kinana! Lisanna!" Lucy and Carla called out and rushed over.
Coldness was suddenly on Salamander's neck, an ice sword at his neck. "Why are they with you?" Gray asked. "And if I don't like your answer, no hesitation."
Melting the ice from just his presence, Natsu sighed in annoyance. "Well, we have some time to kill. Might as well tell the story."
Alveraz Empire
Royal Castle
Zeref looked out over his capital city as Makarov stood behind him. "I take it negotiations are impossible?" The Fairy Tail master questioned.
"They always were." The emperor declared. "The prize at the end of this Dragon King Festival is the Fairy Heart… or rather, Mavis Vermillion."
"Are you going to start a war?" The aged man asked.
"No, an extermination." Zeref declared before blasting Makarov with a wave of magic. The older man grasped his chest in pain before Mest suddenly appeared and teleported them both away. "I see… so this is their plan… Are you not going to help them, Natsu?" Zeref declared as he turned, his creation leaning against the castle wall.
"They can handle themselves, trust me." He declared. "I'm just here to get one last look at you before you die. You and your entire army."
Explosions in the distance alerted the two of the battle happening in the distance. "The game has started, Natsu." Zeref declared, his magic flaring around him as he walked forward.
"I'm ending this game before it even starts." Natsu ignited himself and matched step for step. The two glared at each other before the pyromancer threw a punch. Ice shot out from the door behind the pair, forcing Salamander to dodge to the side. "Damn it, I let my anger deafen me." Throwing his fist forward, flames burst forward and hit the ice.
Natsu rushed forward and jumped off the balcony, Cubelious flying them off into the sky. "M'lord!" A blue haired prick rushed forward, ice and snow flowing around him. "What is happening!?"
"Just a warning shot." Zeref replied, looking at the fading outline. "Prepare the troops, Invel. The culling shall commence soon."
One Week Later
Far West of Magnolia
Sitting atop a large precession of troops, Zeref smiled as one of his top wizards Invel listed a report. "M'lord, it seems that Ajeel and Brandish, have both been defeated."
"That is to be expected." The emperor replied with a smirk. "It would be a bore if you couldn't manage at least this much, Mavis."
"To think that not one, but two of the twelve would be killed. This surpasses my predictions." Invel confessed.
"You're wrong." Zeref explained. "They haven't been killed. And there in lies Fairy Tail's weakness."
"Sire, there is an object approaching at high speeds." Invel declared as Zeref looked up with a smirk.
"You ready to finish this, Zeref!?" Natsu shouted, riding Cubelious at high speed.
'There's a lot of people here…' Kinana internally said. 'It's like a giant black wall…'
"Doesn't matter how many there are…" The pyromancer declared ablaze. "I'll burn them all to ash. Take me down!"
The snake nodded and dived at the swarm before unleashing a flaming breath. Natsu ignited his hands as the pair spiraled through the army, burning metal to slag and knocking troops back. Salamander jumped off his mate and pulled his fist back, coating it in flames. Crashing into the ground, the force blasting a large portion back.
"KILL HIM!"
Natsu smirked as he dodged a spear thrust before pushing the tip into another solder. A flaming elbow snapped the metal before Natsu flipped the pole and shoved it into the gut. Both troops fell over dead before Salamander unleashed a swarm of flaming scales, peppering them. Bolts of fire and explosions suddenly hit him in great force, and he took them all.
Absorbing the flames into his mouth, he turned to the now scared mob. "Big mistake." Natsu chuckled as he pulled his head back. "Fire Dragon King's Roar!" Unleashing an inferno of a breath attack that roasted anyone or anything in its path, leaving only molten ground, charred bones and melted steel.
"He-he's a monster… A one-eyed, flaming monster!"
"How many troops are we down!?"
"1,872." A black ball declared before it started swirling into a mist. "But I still over 90 thousand left…"
Zeref stood up from the center of the mist as the fire wizard smirked. "You got here quicker than I thought…" Natsu said, gripping the wraps on his arm.
"Well, I couldn't contain my excitement to see you again, Natsu." Zeref replied.
"Let's cut the sentimental crap and do this, Zeref." Salamander snapped back, undoing the bandage.
"Everyone, can I ask you to stand back?" The Black Wizard requested, causing his troops to scramble away.
"Cubelious, get some space." Natsu told his mate. The snake nodded and slithered away to safety, peering around a chunk of rock. "I couldn't care less about why you want that dead body, but you aren't getting it." The last of the wraps fell to the ground, showing off a large dragon tattoo on his arm.
'This radiant heat… What is this magical power…' Zeref had no time to ponder it further as Natsu rushed forward and punched him in the face. Tumbling over the ground, Zeref rolled to his feet and pointed his fingers forward, launching a sphere of black magic at his creation. Salamander raised his arm, burning in deep red flames and destroyed the orb. "He burned my magic to ash!?"
The one-eyed man was suddenly in his face and unleashed a burning punch to the stomach, making him gasp in pain. A giant inferno shot out and blasted Zeref backwards, much to his surprise. A flurry of fists hit him repeatedly before a palm strike pushed Natsu back. Anger filled his eye before Zeref waved his hand, carving a line in the ground that forced him back. "What a pleasant development. Tell me, what is that new power?"
"10 months…" Natsu declared, confusing Zeref. "That's how long it took for me to unlock this power. It's the last of that dragon's power that was hidden within me…"
"Igneel's power?" Zeref repeated in shock.
"It's a one time deal, and I've been saving it for this moment." Natsu declared, crimson and black flames swirling around his body.
'Power granted from the dead…' The Black Wizard was wide eyed at the statement. 'If that's the case, it might be able to destroy an immortal being like me!'
"Fire Dragon King Mode!" Zeref looked around as the entire land was set ablaze, the stone melting to magma. "I'm ending this now, Zeref!"
'To think my long standing wish would finally be granted…' Zeref was amazed as the blazing force was launched at him. 'Thank you Igneel, Anna, Layla, Mavis… And you… My beloved brother, Natsu.' The massive inferno hit, blinding the army behind Zeref.
Cubelious watched from the sky as Natsu dropped to a knee, panting in exhaustion. Looking up as the smoke faded, his ears gave away that Zeref was still standing, his clothing almost burnt to ash. 'Come on, old man… let me have one last push so I can end this.' Gripping his arm, he pushed himself up and glared at Zeref.
The Black Wizard smiled as he looked up from the ground. "You've grown a lot stronger, Natsu." He said with a smile. "Although, the time for you to stop me has long passed. However, there is one thing you should know before failing. I'll just let you read it yourself."
"I don't care, just die!" Natsu lurched forward and unleashed a flaming fist, aimed straight at the Black Wizard. The flames suddenly died as Natsu fell over, crashing face first into the ground. "Damn it… not now…" His eye closed as he passed out.
"You were never one to listen, were you?" Zeref chuckled as he pointed his hand forward, a black orb growing in his palm. "Good bye, little brother." A blur zoomed past him and grabbed the pinkette. The Black Wizard killed the spell as he looked up at the sky, Cubelious carrying her mate into the sky.
Invel walked forward with his hands behind his back. "Your majesty?"
Zeref just stared at the ground as he clenched his fist in frustration. "No one in this world is left to defeat me." The Black Wizard declared. "The last remaining bit of hesitation within me is gone. Continue the army's advance, our target is Fairy Tail. We will conquer the guild and obtain Fairy Heart, the absolute power."
"Yes sir!"
"I have one more request of you, Invel. Would you please procure me a new outfit?" Zeref asked. "Garments more befitting of an emperor, to be precise."
Kinana placed a large leaf in the stream and filled it with water before pulling it out. Bringing it over, she pressed it against Natsu's lips, letting him drink. His eye snapped open and looked around. "What happened? Where are we!? Is the fucker dead?"
"Easy, easy…" The transformative woman replied, holding him against the tree. "We're in an old part of the forest near Magnolia. You passed out during the fight with Zeref, just before you could kill him."
In a quick panic, he turned to his arm and found Igneel's mark completely gone. "Damn it, that was our best shot!" He punched the tree behind him, breaking the bark clean off. "Once again, I'm too freaking weak to win when it counts!"
"Don't talk like that!" Kinana snapped back, pulling him in for a hug. "You did great. We just need to change our plan, that's all. Jellal and the others will help us, you know that. Just get some rest for a bit…" No reply came before she looked to she found his eye shut and his breath almost none existent. "No, no, wake up! Wake up!" He slumped to the ground, forcing Kinana to catch him.
"Please, wake up!" She begged before pulling her arms back, slight burns on her arms. "I… I have to get help!" Transforming into her snake form, she wrapped around Salamander and took off to the sky. 'Fairy Tail, someone has to help us there!'
Fairy Tail Infirmary
"Someone, please help!" Kinana shouted as she slammed the doors open, dragging Natsu in behind her. "Something is wrong with him! He just passed out all of a sudden!"
"What's going on!?" Porlyusica questioned as she and Cana raced into the room.
"He was fighting Zeref and then he suddenly collapsed." The transformative girl explained. "We retreated, but then he passed out again. And now he won't wake up."
"Move aside." The healer stepped forward and placed a stick over his head, only for it to burst into a flame. "An anti-ethernano tumor… I had only read about this occurring, but I have never seen it in person. The only option for him is surgery, but there's no doctor capable of performing this fear on Ishgar."
"What about Wendy's power!?" Kinana shouted.
"Even with her and that girl from Lamia Scale, they couldn't do anything." Porlyusica replied. "I'm sorry."
"No, please!" Kinana hugged the downed man, ignoring the burning on her arms. "Wake up!"
"These magic seals… take them off." The green haired girl requested, confusing the room. "My magic is capable of altering the size of anything in this world. If we pinpoint the exact location of this tumor, I could shrink it to the point it's a non-factor."
"PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU!" Kinana shouted, tears turning to steam.
"I'd never thought I'd see the day I'd treat a member of the Oración Seis in my guild." Makarov declared, looking at the sleeping Salamander. "Kinana sure can pick 'em."
"All that matters is that she's come back." Porlyusica replied. "Besides, this could be a blessing for you and your lot." Her words confused the old master. "Simply put, who better to have in a war than someone who doesn't respect life?" The pair walked away as Kinana sat by her mate.
"War truly does produce strange bedfellows." She turned around and found a bandage Freed standing over her. "Tell me, how is he?"
"Still unconscious." Kinana replied, holding his hand. "But… he's alive, and that's what matters. How has the guild been while I was gone?"
"That's a long story." He answered. "But we have the time now, so I might as well explain."
Hargeon
Wendy, Chelia, and Carla stared across the battlefield from a blonde invader, a sword on her hip. "If I wanted to, I could have killed you all the second you went in front of me." Dimira chuckled, a smirk on her face. "Especially if it's the three of you." Time froze around her as people hovered in the air. "And now the world belongs to me, and me alone."
She walked over and squeezed Wendy's face. "I can stop time itself. A little something called Age Seal. Killing all three of you wouldn't be any fun… I know." Dimira drew her sword and pointed it at the trio. "I kill one of you, and watch the panic in the other's eyes. Yes, that sounds right. Now, who dies first?" She waved her sword around before stopping at Wendy. "Yes, the one who kicked me in the face. Time to die."
Swinging her blade at the neck, her eyes went wide as the girl jumped over the sword. "What?" The two Slayers jumped out of the way as the blonde was shocked. "How is it they're moving!?"
Two air powered kicked hit her in the face, sending her sliding backwards. "That voice in my head…" Wendy mumbled.
"I heard it too!" Chelia declared.
"This small world of yours has an even stranger sense of time." The four turned to the side to see Ultear walking forward, her orb at her hip. "But this is my world as well. And more importantly, this is our country too. Crime Sorciere will now punish you in this pocket of time."
"Were you the one who undid my spell?" Dimaria asked, glaring at the orb user.
"No, time is still as you left it." She replied, looking around the battlefield. "But if you think you're the only one who can control time, you're sorely mistaken."
"Get out of my world!" The blonde shouted, swinging her blade. The attack went through Ultear much to her shock, only for a force to crash into her back. Dimaria turned around and slashed at the force, cutting the orb in half. Her joyous smirk disappeared as she watched the crystal repair itself before suddenly multiplying.
"Unfortunately, I cannot be here myself." Ultear confessed, confusing the Aero users. "But I still plan on fighting. Luminous Minutes!" Thousands of orbs shot at the time stopper growled in anger. Swinging her blade as fast as she could, Dimaria sliced as many as she could, but the barrage was overwhelming. One crashed into her head and sent her sliding back, right into a wind-water combo attack from Wendy and Shelia.
"Enough…" Dimaria growled as her body started glowing. "Enough… ENOUGH!" A massive force of magic blasted the two back as the blonde stood before them, glowing in power as yellow lines covered her body. "Take Over: God Soul Chronos."
"She had something like that up her sleeve?" Ultear asked in shock. "How'd she even get that!?"
"An ancient being worshipped long ago…" Dimaria declared. "Has merged with me, the last descendent of its vessel." Raising her hand, she pointed her finger forward before a beam of energy shot forward. Carla pushed Wendy out of the way, causing the beam to rip through her own side.
'I never saw her attack coming…' Ultear thought in a panic as Carla fell over.
"Carla, hang on!" Wendy shouted as she held her oldest friend in her arms.
"All who defy my laws shall pay in blood." The blonde declared, lowering her arm.
"She's fine for now." Ultear told the crying Wendy. "I sent her outsode this time bubble, so that means her time has stopped. But you need to take her out as fast as possible if you want to save her. So I ask you: do you have the resolve to use the power from the future?"
"The future?" Wendy repested in confusion.
"Correct, the powers that you'll gain in the future." Ultear explained, holding up her orb. "The ability to use it now. We cannot beat her otherwise, but there is a cost. Once you use it, you will never again be able to use your magic again. That is the power of the Third Origin. I know this cannot be made lightly, but without it you have no hope of victory."
Instantly both girls volunteered, sparking an argument as Dimaria charged forward. "There's no time to waste!" Wendy shouted, pushing her friend out of the way. "Do it!"
"So be it!" The orb glowed and an arch of magic power hit Wendy before she flew into battle.
The Dragon Slayer threw an overhead kick, only for the blonde to block it. "Foolish girl, I am a god." Dimaria declared. "Remember every injury from your life. Age Scratch!" Wendy screamed in pain as the spell hit before a beam punctured her leg, sending her rolling backwards. "Now die." Another beam flew forward only for Shelia to knock it aside.
"Leave it to me, Wendy. I'll teach her some respect." The God Slayer declared before punching Dimaria in the face, her fist now enhanced with Third Origin. "A righteous god wouldn't revel in torturing people! My magic exists to slay those like you!"
"God-Slayer Magic!? That wasn't a bluff!?" The blonde asked, her face returning to normal.
Shelia clasped her hands together and a storm of black feathers and wind blasted Dimaria back, ending her take over and returning time to normal. Wendy rushed over to Carla and started healing her friend, tears falling from her eyes.
Olympia
"Those girls have such resolve…" Ultear smiled as she stood next to Angel, sitting in her throne. "If only I could have experienced a love like that at their age."
"Well, better late than never, they say." Sorano chuckled. "How's the rest of the guild?"
"Meredy and Jellal have just reached Hargeon themselves, and have entered the battlefield." The chrono-mage declared. "The other Seis members are heading to back up Sabertooth and Blue Pegasus. Everyone else is on stand by." She looked down and glanced at the former Celestial Spirit Mage. "How long do you plan to stay in that swimsuit?"
"Until I feel like it." Angel replied, her hands reaching to her stomach. "Now, where is Natsu?"
Yeah, sorry about the wait for this chapter. A LOT of this was focused on FT, so it took some time to get it to a length I was comfortable with. Maybe I cut some corners to get it out faster, but I think it fits the story. I really can't think of anything else to say, so see ya next time.
