Camila entered the room with a plate of cookies and apple slices, setting it down on Luz's tea party table.
"Thank you Mami!" Luz sweetly said as she looked over the snacks.
"Of course Mija." Camila said, as her eyes glanced about the room as if searching for something. "So where is your little friend anyway?"
Luz quietly blinked for a few moments, before realizing her mother's question was serious "Uh she's right here Mami." she answered pointing to the owlet.
"Hi." Octavia waved at Camila but couldn't shake the feeling that Luz's mother wasn't looking at her, but rather at where Luz was pointing.
"Oh of course, I'm so sorry dear." Camila apologized with a hint of a laugh in her voice (Luz supposed it was a bit silly that her mom didn't see the Owl Demon right in front of her), before turning back to Luz "Is there anything else you two need?"
Luz glanced at Octavia "You need anythin', Octavia?" the Owlet shook her head "No, we're good Mami."
"Well you two have fun!" Camila said and left the room.
"Why was your mummy acting like she couldn't see me?" Octavia asked, and the only answer Luz could give was a simple shrug of her shoulders before her attention was caught by something else.
"Hey, your necklace is glowin'!"
Octavia glanced down just in time to see the blue glow of the crystal fade away "Huh," she noted, holding the crystal up to her eye, "I'll have to ask my daddy about it later."
"You wanna hear more about Azura?" Luz asked as she handed Octavia a cookie.
The Owlet happily took the cookie, "Yeah." she replied before taking a bite out of her treat.
"So Azura's powers come from this staff that was forged thousands of years ago by ancient Dwarfs in the Elven Forges and gifted to her by a mysterious Soothsayer named Malingale." Luz flipped to the relevant pages in her Azura book as she explained "It also has a Bazooka mode."
Octavia raised her hand and Luz nodded "What's a Bazooka mode?" the Owlet asked.
Luz pondered on the question for a moment before shrugging her shoulders "I dunno, that's just what it's called." she admitted.
"So humans need to use a staff to cast spells, unlike Demons." Octavia observed.
A lightbulb lit in Luz's head "Wait… can you use magic?" she asked.
"Not much." Octavia shyly admitted.
"Can you show me?" Luiz asked as she shifted to her greatest bargaining technique, puppy dog eyes, "Please, please, pleaseee!"
Unsurprisingly, Octavia gave in "Oh okay, I think I know one spell I can do." she said holding her hands together, like she had an invisible ball between them, and began to concentrate.
After a few moments, a ball of light formed in the Owlet's hands growing brighter and brighter with each passing second. Just as the light became too much for either child to bear looking at, Octavia threw it into the air where it burst just before hitting the ceiling. Luz watched in awe as illusions of stars rained down like glitter "Tah dah." Octavia awkwardly punctuated her performance.
"That was so cool!" Luz yelled out, grabbing Octavia's hands and hopping in place from pure excitement, "You're the best person I've ever met!"
Octavia smiled back in silent agreement.
Several hours and much fun later, the pair were now sitting on the floor next to each other leaning against the side of Luz's bed, both passed out as an Azura cartoon played on a small CRT for an audience of no one.
It was at this moment that a blue portal reappeared, and Stolas stepped into the room. "I'm back, how was your play-" the prince began before spying the sleeping pair and finished with a whisper "…oh." Stolas smiled as he knelt by Octavia and gently rocked her awake "Little Owlet, it's time to go." he cooed out.
"W- what…?" Octavia muttered out as she slowly regained consciousness, a small pout quickly forming on her face. "But daddy I'm barely…" the Owlet paused briefly as her body betrayed her to let out a yawn "…tired." she mumbled out a finish.
"Are you sure?" Stolas sarcastically asked, "Because I don't think the same can be said of Luz."
Said human was currently barely keeping herself sitting up straight, with her head leaning to the side and eyes half open "Wha…?" she muttered at the mention of her name.
"I'm sure Luz will be more than happy to play together in the future."
"Alright…" Octavia finally admitted defeat "Bye Luz." she choked out, pulling the human into a tight hug.
"Buh bye." Luz muttered out, her face resting in Octavia's neck feathers, "Hee hee, so fluffy."
After Octavia let Luz go, Stolas scooped the Owlet into his arms and walked back through the portal, which closed just before Camila walked in.
Back in Stolas's palace, the prince carried his daughter down the hall towards her room, when through her exhausted mind a question from earlier popped back up.
"Something funny happened Daddy." Octavia began.
"Oh, what was it?"
"I met Luz's mummy." she explained.
Stolas smiled to himself, as he had a feeling he knew what his daughter was about to ask, "Oh was she nice?"
"Yes but," Octavia paused to recall the memory from her half-asleep brain "she was acting she couldn't see me, why's that daddy?"
The prince held a smile on his face as he gently petted his daughter's head "I don't know my dear Owlet. But I am certain she meant nothing by it." Stolas reassured as he set her out "Goodnight my dear Little Owlet." the prince said as he tucked Octavia in and planted a kiss on her forehead.
"Goodnight Daddy." Octavia managed to get out through another yawn before the lulls of the Sandman drew her to slumber.
Octavia awoke with a faint smile on her face; she hadn't thought of that day in quite a few years, but her father talking about being summoned by Luz the other day seemed to have stirred up those memories.
Octavia pulled herself out a bed and made her trek to the kitchen, entering to find her father was already there.
"Oh Octavia!" Stolas said as he noticed his daughter "Prefect timing, I was just about send Pringle to fetch you."
"Whyyy?" the teenaged Demon questioned.
"I wanted to let you know that Luz invited me to a movie, and I was wondering if you wanted to come as well?"
Octavia's smile provided all the answer he needed.
