Hello, everybody! And welcome to a new story I am writing, "A Part of Her World". This story isn't a part of the "A Long Distance Ship"-verse (have been having a little bit of writers block for "The Misty Chronicles", specifically Chapter 10. Don't worry, the first chapter will come out by month's end, I promise.) But I hope you enjoy this story nonetheless. It will be my second foray into rewriting the Kanto adventure (the first one I am NOT proud of), and it will have a major twist to make it a unique story. Anyways, before we get going, I need to tell you something:

I do not own the Pokemon anime.

With that out of the way, let's get going!

The world of Pokemon. Pokemon are wonderful creatures that walk on solid lands, soar through the skies, and swim in the deep blue oceans. People and Pokemon have been together for many years, helping each other out. Some people keep Pokemon as pets, while others, called trainers, use Pokemon for battle. There are some trainers who want to uncover the mysteries of these mysterious creatures and all of the wonders of the land… and I am going to tell you about one of the mysteries right now…

Centuries ago, before the Pokeball was invented, there was a town just outside Mt. Moon. The town was founded on the principle of being a safe haven for Water Pokemon, but it has seen much better days by the time our story begins. The people have forgotten all about why the town was founded in the first place. The waters were polluted, and there was overfishing of the local population of water Pokemon. What's even worse, is that they were eaten by locals as a delicacy, and pretty soon the place was almost unrecognizable.

However, there was one woman who lived in the town who wouldn't stand for the mistreatment of the water-type Pokemon and did everything she could to help them. However, as she was just one person and it seemed like the whole town was against her goal of making the town a haven for Water Pokemon once again. But she would soon get some of the best help imaginable…

A higher power has seen the poor woman's desire to help the Pokemon in her town out, even when everyone else stopped caring about their well being. So one night, the higher power visited the woman in a dream. He thanked her for thinking about the water-type Pokemon and their environment, before telling her of a drastic plan he made to help the water Pokemon out and to punish those who disrespected the wishes of the town's founders. However, as she was one of the few people who loved the water Pokemon, she would not only be spared from the punishment, but would be granted a new form that would help her survive and rule over the new world her town would become. The woman was confused, but the higher power said that it would be okay.

The following day, a terrible rainstorm started. Now the people of the town were used to a little rain, but this would be unlike any other rainstorm the area has faced before or since. It kept on raining, and raining, and raining. Soon, the town started to flood. But the woman was not scared as the water started to rise to the point where the entire lower half of her body was under the water. And it was when she looked down when she got a true surprise…

The entire half of her body isn't human anymore. It was covered from the waist down in scales, and she no longer had legs, but rather a tail. A fish tail. She was now a mermaid. It was at that moment she realized everything: the higher power granted her a form that allowed her to not only live in the sea with her beloved Water Pokemon, but to rule over them with love.

Eventually, the whole town was under water. Most of the Pokemon who couldn't live under the sea managed to escape the town before it was too late. The humans, however, were not so lucky. Many of them died by drowning. To the surprise of the new mermaid, she was not the only one who still believed in what the town was made for, as several other people became mermaids and mermen themselves. The original mermaid told the others what the higher power told her, and she was made the queen of the new Cerulean Sea.

The new queen ruled the area for many years, and the merpeople and water Pokemon alike loved her. She was a kind ruler, and never corrupt like those who lived in the area back when it was on land. She and her descendants were the queens of the Cerulean Sea all the way until today, secret from the rest of the Kanto region and the wider Pokemon world.

How do I know all of this to be true, you might ask. Come closer. Closer… Not THAT close! Good… I know that this may be just a story for some people, but I have undeniable proof that the story I just told you is fact. I know that story is true because I have been told it since I was a little girl. It is a major part of our culture, and the origin story of our secret realm. It is true, and mermaids are real because… I am one.

That's right. I am a mermaid. My name is Misteria Kasumi, but most call me "Misty". I am a mermaid born in the Cerulean Sea. I am the youngest of four siblings, and I grew up learning to respect the water Pokemon and the ocean that I call home. The Cerulean Sea is one of the safest places in the entire Kanto region because of its secrecy. My mom discouraged me and my sisters from going to the outside world. However, it seems that we all got the exploration bug. My sisters have all left years ago and have never returned to the sea. I also have gone exploring outside the Cerulean Sea, but I have always returned to my home where mermaids like me can be safe. I have even gone as far as inland Kanto. It was one of those journeys that I will never forget…

I was enjoying one of my many swims outside of the Cerulean Sea. I wanted to see how far away I could go without something bad happening to me and forced me to return home. I ended up in a river somewhere between Pallet Town and Viridian City, the furthest I have ended up. I decided that now would be a good time to return home when I saw him.

It was a boy, around my age. He had black hair under a hat, and tan skin. A pair of lightning-shaped marks were under his eyes, which were closed. In addition to his hat, he was wearing a pair of jeans, a blue and white jacket, and a black shirt, all of which looked to be in terrible shape. He appeared to be unconscious! And to make things worse for the boy, he had a Pikachu in his arms, who was also unconscious! Something bad must have happened to him, and I couldn't just let him die.

"Don't worry," I said, "I have got you!"

I grabbed the boy before dragging him and his Pikachu back to dry land. I forced myself onto the land as well before pushing on his chest, up and down. The boy started to cough as water came out of his mouth. He slowly started to reopen his eyes, brown in color, a good sign.

"Ugh…" the boy said, "What on earth happened?"

"You're okay!" I said. "I saw you floating down the river unconscious and I saved you!"

"Thanks," the boy said, still not all there quite yet. And it was then when he got a good look at me. I was sure that the shock of his savior being a mermaid got him all the way back. "ARE YOU…" he asked.

"A mermaid? Real?" I asked.

"Yeah," the boy said, "Prove to me that this is all real and I am not making this all up! I must be in a dream or heaven or something!"

I gave him a good slap across the face, after which he yelped. "Do I still look like a mermaid?" I asked the boy.

The boy rubbed his eyes before looking at me again. Nothing had changed. "Yeah," he said, "But… how? Mermaids don't exist except in stories!"

"Well, I am a real one," I said, "How about this. I will explain to you how I am real if you explain to me how you and your Pikachu ended up in this mess to begin with…"

The boy looked at his Pikachu, still unconscious, before sighing. "It's a long story… I don't know where to start exactly."

"Why don't you start by telling me your name?" I suggested.

"Okay then," the boy said, "My name is Ash Ketchum, and I am from Pallet Town. My dream is to become a Pokemon Master…"
