Chapter 6
"It was that bad before, I don't understand how he could be around her now. Her blood has to be more tempting since he has tasted it."
Surprising everyone, Jacob calmly stood and placed a hand on Charlie's shoulder. Looking at Rosalie he said. "You're talking about what happened at the Ballet studio."
A surprised smile spread across her face. "She told you about that?"
"You might be surprised by what she's told me." To Charlie he said. "It was to save her life. Her association with Edward caught the attention of another leach. One that liked to play games. Bella was his perfect pawn. He bit her wrist. Her boyfriend sucked the venom out before it could turn her into one of them."
It took Charlie a minute of thought before he asked "Why would he stop it. If he loves her and wants to be with her, why would he stop her from being like him, so they can be together?"
"That's something you would have to ask him." Rosalie said, "I like to think it's because he does love her and wants her to live her human life."
"Or it could be that she is like his favorite scented candle." they all looked at Emmett with confusion. "What? They have those food scented candles now."
Not wanting to examine that statement they went back to Rosalie's .
"How can she live a human life with him constantly around her?" Jake asked.
"She can't," Rosalie admitted. "but we are selfish creatures. Look at me. I am an advocate for living a human life. I swear up and down that If I was given a choice, I would have asked Carlisle to let me die, but when I found Emmett, I couldn't stand the thought of him not being on this earth. It was my decision to change him before he died.
"What does dyeing have to do with this?" Jake asked.
"It was Carlisle's way, before the treaty he would only change someone if they had no hope of surviving." She explained
"What were you all dying from?" Charlie asked.
"Those are stories for another time." She dismissed the topic.
At the same time Emmitt was saying. "A bear tried to eat me. Imagine his surprise when I went back and ate him instead."
Charlie's eyebrows shot up. He shook his head and got back to the subject of Bella. "So, did Edward start hanging around Bella because she smells so-" Charlie cleared his throat. "Appetizing?" He grimaced at his own words.
"No, I believe if that was it he would have just drained her and left, or ran as far away as he could and never returned. The fact is Bella is an anomaly, a curiosity."
"How?" Charlie asked.
"Some of us have gifts. Carlisle has an inordinate amount of compassion, Jasper can sense and manipulate emotions-"
"Alice can see the future." Charlie interrupted.
"Yes and no. The future is subjective and constantly changing. What she can see is the outcome of someone's decisions. If the decision changes the outcome changes." Rosalie informed him. "Edward can read minds. That is, all minds with the exception of Bella's."
Charlie swallowed thickly. "You mean to tell me, that little shit has been listening to my thoughts this whole time?" Charlie's reaction went from uneasy to angry real fast.
"Yes," Rosalie's voice sounded unsure. Clearing her throat, "No." She said more confidently. "He can't hear your thoughts, he can only see images in your mind. We think Bella got her gift from you." she explained.
"So you're telling me the next time we are around each other I should picture my hands around his throat?"
"Um, Charlie," Jake said. " There are two problems with that thought."
"And what's that?"
"Well for one it would be like you choking a marble statue, and if you were able to squeeze that tight it wouldn't make much difference since vamps don't need to breathe."
"Great." Charlie grumbled. "Destroy all my fantasies, why don't you." looking back at Rosalie he said. "Tell me about the bad stuff. You know, the negative repercussions of becoming like you."
A/N Thank you for reading. This meeting is taking longer then I planned, I hope to end it in the next chapter. Any suggestions or reminders on the negative aspects of being a vampire, I would apricate the input.
