a/n Hi, unfortunately there are people out there that believe fictional characters are real. Do I believe the person or people leaving the reviews that {these are not the real people,} think that? Probably not. That does not change my statement.

I have the rest of this story outlined. If you do not agree with or dislike the direction you think this story is taking then stop reading it. I can do whatever I want with the characters and have it work. That is the beauty of fanfiction. Why can't the vampires go on to the rez in the pursuit of protecting Bella from this threat? Also Alice is watching for Victoria's decisions, the wolves being around Bella doesn't affect that. That being said, why can't Alice see the wolves in a vision. They had her do it at the end of the Breaking Dawn 2 movie.

If you read the story properly you would see Charlie is not forcing Bella to stay on the rez. He has her with him wherever he goes, except for the first two times. One of those times, she was sleeping. She is not being forced to go anywhere. Of course Charlie doesn't want her to be around vampires. They are vampires! He would proffer her not to be around the wolves either. He begged her to stay with him, not to stay at the Blacks house. That just happens to be where he was at. To further my point of doing whatever I want with the characters there will be a short at the end of this chapter. A/N

Chapter 18

Quil was quick to get his four wheeler to lend to Charlie. Bella climbed on the back wrapping her arms around Charlie's waist. "I really wish we had a helmet for you." He complained to her.

Sam and Jared stayed in human form to carry Paul. Quil and Embry Were going to run in wolf form at their sides, and Seth and Leah were to stay and patrol the rez. Charlie and Bella were surprised to hear the orders for the last two because they didn't see them.

Bella looked up at Jake wide eyed. "Seth?" He nodded once. "Leah?" he swallowed thickly.

"We'll talk later." He told her. "I'll be running on two legs so you can follow me," he told Charlie.

Even though some of the pack didn't phase into wolves and two were carrying Paul they still moved faster than a normal human. They weren't even a quarter of the way into the journey when Charlie hit a particularly large bump and Bella lost her grip on his waist. He grabbed her arm just in time to stop her from falling off but the four wheeler veered off the path and tilted to the side. Charlie was able to right himself without too much damage to either of them or the atv. He made sure she had a better grip before they continued at a slower pace.

Although they slowed down, Bella still lost her grip again. This time Charlie wasn't quick enough to grab her, Thankfully Jacob was paying closer attention, and running more next to them, then in front of them this time. He caught her just before she hit the ground.

"Alright that does it." He said as he lifted her into his arms and moved past Charlie to go back in front of him.

"What the hell are you doing?" Charlie flustered.

"Carrying her."

"No you're not." Charlie demanded.

"So you want me to put her back on the atv risking the chance we both miss her the next time she loses her grip?"

"I could drive slower."

"Charlie if you drive any slower you might as well be walking."

"Dad's right Jake, you can't carry me that whole way." Bella protested.

"Wolf strength." He bounced her in his arms. "You're as light as a feather."

"Jake, I'm sure we can find another solution." Charlie protested.

"Charlie, if you want to get to the meeting before it starts without us this is the only solution." Jake pointed out.

"Fine." Bella agreed, "but you better not complain if I puke on you." She warned.

"Let's just get this over with." Charlie grumbled.

When they arrived Paul was on the ground Sam and Jared were holding his arms back while Carlisle examined his knee. Paul's other leg kicked out at the doctor. Bella shook her head at his behavior. Embry, now in human form and thankfully wearing shorts, rushed over to grab Paul's leg before he could kick the doctor again. Quil was still in wolf form standing at the edge of the forest. Bella gasped when she saw him and pointed him out to Jacob. "Carlisle is allowing it. This way the other wolves can be part of the meeting too."

Letting a relieved breath out Bella looked around for Edward. When she spotted him she wiggled her way out of Jacobs arms and ran straight into Edwards. Looking down at her he wrinkled his nose. "You need a shower, love." blatantly looking at her outfit he added. "And perhaps a change of wardrobe."

"Ugg," Bella complained.

"I'm sure Alice would love to get her hands on you right now." He teased her.

"I'm sure she would. Don't you go scheming with her now." She warned, scowling at him. He chuckled at her.

"Edward," Carlisle's voice interrupted their banter. "I need you to go back to the house and get my medical bag."

"Can't Rosalie do it?" Edward complained.

"You're faster." Carlisle told him.

"Fine." He said, acting very much the reluctant teenager .

"Make sure it has morphine, a scalpel, clamps, saline solution, and forceps in it."

Edward gave his father a nod, placed a chased but loving kiss on Bella's lips, and took off running. It wasn't until Edward was gone that Bella recognized the clearing they were in. It was the field where they played baseball, where they met James and his coven. The shiver that went through Bella then had nothing to do with the cold. Looking up she could see the concern on Charlie and Jake's faces. They started towards her, they knew something was wrong but didn't get over to her in time to ask. Edward was back within five minutes. To Bella; he was gone five minutes too long.

After greeting Bella he brought the bag over to his father and gave the screaming wolf a disgusted look. Embry had to help hold Paul's upper torso down so Emmett took over holding his uninjured leg down. Edward wouldn't tell that his brother was purposely putting a little too much pressure on it. With the way Emmett felt about Bella, Edward was surprised that the mutt's leg was still in one piece.

"Edward, I need you to hold this leg still while I operate."

"I don't think that's a good idea." Edward sneered out. "If I try to help he will end up losing the leg all together."

"Edward!" Esme chastised.

"This is the mutt that tried to attack Bella!" He told her. He felt bad for the harsh way he spoke to her. "I'm sorry." He apologized.

"That's alright dear. I understand."

"I'll do it." Jasper volunteered.

When Paul was properly restrained. Carlisle started placing injections around his knee. "I would prefer to do this in a more sterile environment, but we have to work with what we are given."

Carlisle poured a clear liquid over the skin he was about to cut. When he pierced the skin with the scalpel Bella cringed from across the field. Edward laughed at her. "With your aversion to blood, it is a complete mystery to me why you are so intent on becoming something that needs to drink it for sustenance."

Bella tried to hide her grimace. "I'll get used to it." She assured him.

The doctor sliced one line above the knee, one below the knee, and one straight down the middle. He worked quickly so the skin didn't have time to knit back together. He used two small clamps to hold the skin apart. After pouring more of the clear solution on the now open area, he started pulling fragments from in and behind the kneecap. Once he was sure he retrieved all the fragments he unclamped the skin and layed it back in place. The skin quickly knitted back together leaving a bumpy red scar. That too would be gone by the end of the day.

"Well, I would give you antibiotics but somehow I don't think you need them." Carlisle said, gesturing to the now closed wound.

No longer in pain, Paul jumped to his feet and turned in Charlie's direction. Before he could take two steps, Sam alpha ordered him, "Stop!" Walking around to face Paul he continued. "Paul, you will not phase unless otherwise told by me or there is an emergency."

"Are you fucking kidding me?"

"No, I believe this is for the best."

"Bullshit!"

"I'm sorry Paul. Until you get a grip on your temper, this is how it has to be." Sam told him.

"Perhaps, we should get to the reason we are all here." Carlisle spoke.

"Yeah, let's get this over with." Sam said.

"Okay," Charlie started. "There is a threat on Bella's life. The first thing we have to establish is where the safest place for her to be is."

"With us." Both Edward and Jacob said in unison.

They started arguing among themselves.

Carlisle cleared his throat. "Boys!" Their bickering stopped but they remained scowling at each other. "The truth is there are benefits and disadvantages to both. With the treaty it is impossible to have her fully protected at all times."

"Well, then we will have to do something about that treaty." Charlie announced.

"No, fucking way!" Sam Blasted. "I am the alpha here and there will be no changes to the treaty."

"What exactly does being the alpha entail?" Charlie asked him. "Other than letting a bunch of teen aged wolves run wild."

"I lead them." Sam bit out.

"Well you do a shit job of it." Charlie shot back.

"You don't know shit." He spat back.

"Oh, I know you consider the Cullen's your enemy, and you consider Victoria your enemy. Yet when you had the opportunity to let one enemy take out the other, you stopped them. Now you still have two sets of enemies. I also know that My daughter is in just as much danger from you all as she is from them." He gestured to the vampires.

"That's a matter of perspective." Jake said.

"Yes," Jasper agreed.

"I could put this in human terms." Rosalie said. "It's like comparing angry drunks to potential serial killers. There is the threat of death with both. The angry drunk can snap suddenly causing possible fatal injuries. While the potential serial killer always has that thirst to take life, even if they don't act on it, the want to kill is there."

"Great," Charlie grumbled. "These are the people I need to rely on to keep my daughter safe."

Carlisle brought the subject back to Bella. "I am willing to allow the wolves to patrol Forks and help guard Bella in wolf form."

"Good, at least one of you is willing to compromise." Charlie said.

Sam scowled at them. "I'm not sure I can trust them not to attack us when our backs are turned."

"It could be a volintery watch." Jacob suggested. "Only the wolves that want to guard Bella can."

"Jacob," Sam started to protest.

"Sam, don't bump heads with me on this." Jake begged. "Please." It was obvious there was a lot more said in that sentence than the words he spoke.

Sam didn't lose his scowl but gave a curt nod in affirmation anyway.

"Great, who wants to volunteer?" Charlie asked.

"Me." Jake said immediately.

"Me." Embry stepped forward.

Quil let out a bark and then two more sharp barks. Charlie and Bella looked at Jake. Jake looked at Edward lifting his eyebrows. Edward smirked.

"Quil, Seth and Leah Volunteer," he announced.

"No," Sam said sharply.

Ignoring his protest Jared stepped forward. "I volunteer." Paul and Sam looked at him wide eyed. He shrugged "What? He loves her. If it were Kim in danger he would have our backs."

"Fuck," Paul groaned. "I volunteer." Everyone gaped at him. "What?" He addressed his words to Sam. "Someone has to have these idiots' backs."

Sam just shook his head in disbelief.

"All of my family will help." Carlisle announced.

"Okay, Now that we have a supernatural protection detail, do we know where this Victoria currently is?"

The Cullen's looked at each other uneasily. Clearing his throat, Carlisle answered. "We think she may be in Seattle."

The implication was clear. "All those deaths. The missing people." Charlie said in realization.

"We believe she may be building her own army." Jasper announced.

A/N The short

Charlie was sitting on the steps in front of the Cullen's house waiting for Bella to say her goodbyes to Edward when a strange sound caught his ear. It sounded like a balloon slowly releasing air. Looking up at Emmett who was throwing small rocks away from the house, he asked, "Are those rocks making that sound.?"

Emmett turned toward Charlie. "What sound?"

Charlie imitated the sound with his mouth.

"No. I just have gas." Emmett answered with a shrug. As he turned away from the chief the sound started again.

Charlie's eyes found where the sound was coming from. He was surprised to see a faint array of colors caught by the light coming from that area while the sound occurred. "Great." He mumbled "They fart rainbows."

My point is that if I want to make them fart rainbows, that's what they will do. Hay, If S/M can have a vampire with no blood flow and sperm that's been dead for a hundred years make a baby work, then I can make this work. Btw no blood flow = no erection.

This short has no standing with the rest of the story.
