Summary: She lived through those long 500 years, unaffected by the passage of time. In the end, it's the very thing that led her to cross paths with the Winchester brothers in the present. There is no undoing the call of fate. There is no deceiving the cruel hand of destiny- no matter how much you may wish to. So was the life of a prophet.

Pairing: Castiel/Kagome

Disclaimer: I do not own either series. Each belongs to their rightful owners.

Chapter One

"In fate's storybook, there are no happy endings. Not real ones. There is only the lingering echo of how it could've been, had you never lost them."

The neon green glow of fireflies lit up the otherwise dark front yard. On the porch swing sat a girl with dark hair and blue eyes. The blue hue seemed to rival the flickering lights around her as she took in the gentle hum of nature. Around her neck was a pink bauble on a silver chain. It, too, shone with an almost unnatural glow. A twin-tailed cat lounged on her lap, purring softly in sync with her own faint humming.

The sound of the front door opening and closing caught her attention, but she didn't let her gaze drift from the dancing lights. She had no need to, after all. It was only a few seconds later before someone had joined her on the swing, the weight causing it to sway some.

"You're leaving soon, huh?"

Her expression didn't falter as she nodded. "I'll return one day soon," she murmured softly. Her hand paused mid-stroke down Kirara's back, and the feline perked up curiously. "I merely wanted to meet Sam."

She had met the newest addition to the Winchester family, so that task was done and over with.

"It's always nice to see you," Mary whispered. "I know it's so far out for you, but I hope you come by again soon." She glanced at the other girl- never once seeming to age a day in her life. She looked the same as she didn't ten years prior. "You're always welcome. Kagome."

"I appreciate the offer," Kagome responded. "I haven't come by as often as I wish to," she confessed with a low sigh. "I'm trying to keep it civil."

"I understand," Mary responded. "But… still," she continued softly. "Don't let it keep you from showing up when the mood strikes you. You have a way of lighting up a room, you know."

Kagome's smile softened some as she closed her eyes. She leaned back against the swing as her hand once more resumed its gentle path along Kirara's back. "I'll try harder to be around, then."

"Next time I'll dust off those old cookbooks you gave me years ago."

Kagome glanced at her. "That reminds me," she said, "I have a few more for you. I'll bring them next time I come by."

"Really?" Mary asked, her smile growing some. "I'm looking forward to it."

"Next time, then," Kagome whispered.

"Next time."

Making her way down the street, she found herself getting pulled further with each step she took. Never once did her focus stray as she eventually happened upon a desolate-looking building. She was coaxed inside, where the figure she'd been tracking for a few days now seemed to be lurking in wait. She knew it intended to ambush her, as low-tier demons often needed.

She paused, her arms coming up swiftly in a seamless block. A second later, she cast the black-eyed figure a look that almost rivaled chiding.

"Come now, surely you could do better," Kagome mused outloud. Not even a second later, she sighed and shook her head. "Oh nevermind, who am I even kidding anymore?" She lowered her arms and snapped her fingers. "Say, do me a favor and don't move. It'll be quicker."

Upon those words being spoken outloud, the demon then attempted to move, only to be seemingly glued in place. Kagome arched a brow and sent a scolding look their way.

"It would seem that you didn't quite get it," Kagome remarked, trodding closer to the trapped demon. "I wasn't asking. I was telling you." She reached a hand out, a blue glow flickering to life in the palm of her hand. She offered no response time before she gripped the figure by the front of their neck. A sound akin to pain reached her ears before silence flooded the area. The figure she stood before had gone limp, falling to the ground unconscious but unharmed.

She had purified the demon, but spared the human vessel.

Kagome sighed and brushed her palms together, as if clearing away invisible specks of dirt. After doing so, she crouched so she could reach the human. She pressed the pads of her fingers to their forehead, a faint white glow encasing the both of them. It took a few seconds, but she soon cleared all recollection of the prior events from their mind, leaving them entirely oblivious to the fact they'd ever been possessed in the first place.

"There," she whispered as she stood back up. "You'll be confused when you wake up, but you'll thank me later."

Nothing good ever came out of remembering a possession.

She glanced down at the figure, merely watching for several long seconds as they laid there on the ground. After a while, she sighed and shook her head, turning on her heel and leaving through the same door she'd gone in through.

The shift in the radio frequency made her cringe. Out of reflex, she reached for it and turned the nob until it was off entirely. Her other hand came up to grip the jewel resting in the dip of her collarbones. Her expression hardened as she let go of the jewel with a low sigh.

"... You're always too loud," she whispered. "It gets on my nerves."

Those words carried no weight as she said them.

Emerald eyes lingered on her face as she turned entirely away from the radio. At the same time, the auburn-haired kitsune leaned forward a bit more, resting his chin on his palm as a wide smile spread across his face.

"So, they're still pestering you, Mother?"

Kagome's grip tightened on the handle of her mug as she sighed. "No, it's nothing like that," she remarked. She sat up a bit straighter in her seat, crossing one leg over the other.

She had no interest in what the Angels had to say. Not anymore.

There was a knock on the door, and Kagome lifted her gaze. Silence befell the little dining room they pair occupied for a few seconds before it was broken by a second knock. Kagome knew who it was before she ever made a move to get up.

She rose to her feet and gently padded over to the door. Shippo leaned to the side some in order to get a clear view of the door, long locks of auburn hair sweeping over his shoulder. Kagome paused just before the door, hand resting on the handle before she tugged it open.

As soon as the door opened, a cream-colored feline darted inside between her feet, pausing at the counter and sitting down with an alerting cry. Kagome glanced briefly at Kirara before she lifted her gaze back to the figure on the otherside. She tilted her head back until the soft blue of her eyes met a familiar hazel shade.

Silence swept between them. It was tense, but the reason behind it remained unidentifiable. The man who stood there looked to be scrambling for something to say, his mouth opening and closing as if words were failing him. Eventually, she decided to give him a break.

"Hello," Kagome said. She glanced down at Kirara, a faint smile on her face. "I see Kirara found you quickly."

"You…-"

She lifted a hand, tucking a lock of raven hair back behind her ear. "Long time, no see, Dean."

"Kagome, it's you." It took some time, but he eventually managed to get a cohesive sentence out. "Holy hell, you haven't changed a bit." He sounded amazed as he said those words, and she couldn't help the way her smile softened.

"Is that so?" she asked, stepping back as if she were offering him room to join her indoors. "I wish I could say the same to you," she murmured as she looked him over closely.

No longer was he that same little boy from years ago. No, now he was the one looking down at her.

Of course, he was no longer that kid. After all, it'd been so many years since they last stood so close to one another.

Auroua-chan: Gonna end this one here. I was gonna make it a bit longer, but this stopping point seemed better. The following chapters will be longer.

So, a few things.

Kagome doesn't age. It's to be expected since she's the jewel's guardian. She's got quite the title. Additionally, Kagome bears some sort of connection to Sam and Dean. It would seem that they just might be descendants of friends from the Feudal Era.

This is pretty early in the Supernatural series, prior to Castiel meeting Sam and Dean. however, Kagome has some sort of contact (Connection?) with the Angels.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
