Welcome to this spin-off fanfic set in the same timeline as Dasmara's "An Average Among Specials." The events and characters in this story, including our main character, Oswald, exist alongside the events and characters in the original fic, particularly Sergeant Alexander Wallace.
I have received permission from Dasmara to create this fanfic and he agreed.
Enjoy the journey and the adventures that unfold in this parallel narrative!
"I lay face down on the snowy, stone road, the cold snow mixing with the dirt on my skin. The town was enveloped in an ominous fog, obscuring familiar landmarks. The blast from the explosion on the building near me moments ago still reverberated in my ears, leaving me disoriented and struggling to make sense of the chaos around me.
Through the haze, I heard the crackle of Siren weapons discharging plasma bolts into the air. The sounds were alien and unsettling, echoing through the night air. Screams and shouts filled the streets as panic spread among the townsfolk.
Suddenly, I saw them – humanoid reptiles with advanced looking weaponry slowly emerging from the smoke and fog. I used all the strength I had left to hide underneath the disabled half track. They moved methodically down the road, their cold eyes scanning the area. One by one, they checked the civilians on the ground, ensuring none were left alive.
PSIU! PSIU! PSIU!
My heart pounded and my breathing became heavy and uncontrollable as I watched them execute the survivors. They were getting closer to where I was hiding. Then my eye caught movement – the body of a soldier stirring. It was Paul, one of my squad mates. He was shaking and breathing heavily, his face pale and tense. I looked at the reptilian humanoids, shooting any survivors who were writhing on the ground.
"Shh-shh…" I whispered, trying to silence him.
"Stay quiet, Paul… Paul! Stay quiet," I urged as Paul began to cry.
"I don't want to die…" he sobbed. "I don't want to die…" Paul watched as the Siren infantry drew closer to us.
"NO! PLEASE D-" A woman's voice screamed before being cut off mid-sentence.
PSIU!
My eyes widened in shock as I witnessed a woman's face being blown off by raw energy from the Siren's weapon. I looked back at Paul; he had a terrified expression on his face, clearly disturbed by the woman's agonized scream. "You need to calm down and lower your voice, Paul, okay?!" I whispered, trying to keep my own voice steady as I glanced back at the humanoid reptiles. They were getting closer to us.
PSIU!
"AAAAAGHHH-" a man screamed in agony.
PSIU!
"Lower your voice, you're going to get yourself killed!" I whispered again, loud enough for him to hear, feeling a bit frustrated.
"Oswald!" Scheiße, he's having a panic attack.
"Oswald!" Paul's voice was getting louder.
"I don't wanna die, Oswald. Don't let me die, Oswald!" Paul's voice was getting louder and louder… one of them seemed to notice. Scheiße.
"You're going to be okay, Paul…" I whispered, trying to calm him down.
"Just don't talk, okay?!" I said to Paul.
"I can't feel my legs, Oswald, I can't feel them!" Paul sobbed. Verdammt!
"Paul!" I called his name.
"I can't feel my legs, Ossy! Are they gone, Ossy?!" Paul's voice was frantic as at least five Siren infantry looked in our direction. This is really bad…
"Paul, please…" I pleaded.
"Please! They're coming!" Paul's breathing intensified.
One of the Siren infantry slowly approached the defenseless Paul. I watched in horror as Paul's panic attack escalated, making enough noise to alert all the nearby reptilian Sirens. Paul was squirming like an injured prey as its predator slowly approached. He crawled away to no avail until the Siren stomped his head. Blood and brain matter
scattered all over the cold stone floor. The rest of his body laid lifeless, blood still spilling out from the neck region… How in the name of Christ is this happening right now?!"
The idea of creating a spin-off fic suddenly came to me after reading Chapter 23 of Dasmara's original story. I thought it would be interesting to explore another soldier's perspective on the frontline, highlighting how they view the war as the most dangerous, world-ending event. The setting of the first chapters of this fic will take place in the Ardennes, within a fort situated in the middle of a rugged forest with barely any human civilization.
While I still haven't decided if Oswald will be going to Point Azure, I am considering it, but I haven't come up with a good excuse for him to go there yet...so yeah, till next time.
