The class exploded when they realized that their teacher knew the girl and rapidly fired questions. Aizawa, still with a headache yelled with his quirk active and hair floating up "Quiet!" He took a second to compose himself before pointing at the door. "Stop disrupting my class and go with Hound Dog Uzumaki."
She pouted, but relented, knowing she was in the wrong. "Why do you smell like foxes?" The large man asked.
"Probably from my mom's quirk. No one has ever told me I smelled like a fox before. I'm Miwako Uzumaki by the way. It's nice to meet you."
"I'm Hound Dog, as you can probably guess my quirk is dog. I have a nose like them which is why I could tell. I'm a counselor here at UA. How do you know Principal Nezu?"
They walked to a cozy room with a desk and couch. On the desk had his name on a golden plate. Books and other nick nacks were spread around around the small quaint room. "I met him several weeks ago, maybe like 2-3 months now. I was brought here to test my quirk."
That picked Hound Dogs interest. "That's unusual, normally that doesn't happen. Who brought you here?"
Miwako hesitated for a moment, not sure how much information she should divulge. "Umm, All Might brought me here. He saw my quirk and wanted to test it out."
"Your parents must be proud that you caught the number 1 hero's attention."
"I wouldn't know, they're dead."
She could immediately smell the guilt and awkwardness that information brought him. "You don't have to feel guilty or anything. They died a long time ago, I miss them, but it doesn't hurt that bad anymore. I accepted their deaths already."
"How did you know I was feeling guilt? I'm sure my expression never changed."
"I have a good sense of smell too." She said tapping on her nose.
"Hmm, have you ever had training for it?" His scent changed and she could start to see where he was trying to take the conversation.
"I have, but it's been a long time since." She was waiting for his question and he didn't waste her time. "If you want, I could train you again then. Is your hearing enhanced as well?"
"Yeah it is, it's a pain traveling to a large city. It smells like garbage and there is always noise, especially in the mornings."
"Is that your quirk then? Enhanced senses?" He was curious.
"Uh no, its teleportation." That sent him for a loop. They had absolutely no correlation. He took in her appearance, he assumed at first glance that her quirk had something to do with foxes especially due to her smell and whisker markings.
He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. Quirks were evolving everyday, it doesn't really matter. "If you want, I could talk to Principal Nezu to see if he would allow you on campus for some training since you get so bored." He teased her slightly.
It has been a while since the last time I trained by senses. There are so many new scents here it wouldn't be such a bad idea, besides it'll give me something new to do. Her decision was made and she accepted. They walked to find Principal Nezu to see if he would authorize her presence on campus and surprisingly he was all for the idea.
She wondered what she did to make such an impression on the dog-bear-man to let her have all of these luxuries she was sure wasn't offered to just anyone. She didn't question it however, in fear he would rescind his permission.
Hound Dog took her outside to get an idea of just how strong her nose was first to get an idea of where he could start. He was surprised at how good she was at tracking. After getting a rough idea of how to train her he took them back to his office to get to know her better.
Her schedule was starting to get full now that she had something new to do. Of course Hound Dog couldn't train her everyday due to his own responsibilities of being a counselor. When she told All Might, he was happy she had started to branch out more. He was worried about her being alone too much and not really having other people to talk to. Even if it wasn't a kid her age, he'd take it as a win.
Due to her training session at UA, she was bound to get closer to the other teachers that know her living situation as well. It was kept on the down low that she was living with All Might for safety and security reasons, but she found that of all of the teachers, she got along with Aizawa the best. He was a no nonsense person, aloof, but cared deeply about the future of his students.
Of all the people she could go to to ask questions about politics and be given unbiased and non sugar coated answers. It was during one of her trips to the school, eating lunch with the other teachers that she decided to ask the question that has been bothering her since mysteriously waking up in a different universe. "Why don't you kill people?" She always refrained from asking All Might because she knew he would freak out at the question.
However, it seemed to already raise concerns in everyone around her. Present Mic choked on his food, Midnight froze in her seat, Hound Dog started barking and Aizawa was staring at her with an unreadable look on his face. The other teachers in the room also reacted in some form of surprise.
Aizawa slowly placed his food chopsticks down and asked calmly. "Could you elaborate on that question?"
She stopped eating too as she could sense the atmosphere become extremely heavy at what she thought as a seemingly easy question. "Well, I read about the prison system and how taxes work a while ago. It just doesn't make sense why you would choose to put criminals in prison, maybe for life, using tax money to pay for their food, a bed no matter how shitty and a roof over their heads. Why not kill them and just use the money to help those on the streets who need a little government assistance to get back on their feet. There are so many homeless people and orphaned children living in poverty, barely scraping up a single meal a day and yet, criminals get 3. Why?"
All the adults were silent, not really knowing what to say. They agree that they need to do more to help those in need, but it wasn't that simple. "So your solution is to just kill people. Do you think taking a life is easy?" Aizawa asked, but his tone didn't change. It was level, calm, and held little emotion.
"Of course not, but it's a solution nonetheless. Why risk an escape when you can get rid of the person all together, completely taking away any chance of it happening again. From the statistics alone, yes it is unlikely that a prisoner can escape, but those that finish their sentence or do actually manage to break free wreak havoc. Injuring or killing anyone once they are out without a care due to the rush of freedom. Death is a pretty good deterrent in my opinion."
Aizawa sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I agree that if someone died for doing something wrong, that others would be less likely to do it too, but morally it is wrong. Heroes are held to a certain standard to be better than villains, we must be virtuous. A line has been drawn between the two and there is no skirting the edge. The public would put you in one category or the other, no gray areas to speak of. It would make us no better than them if we were taught to kill."
"That's stupid."
"It's just the way things are kiddo." Present Mic said.
She scowled, picking up her chopsticks again to shove food in her mouth. "I'll fix it."
They were concerned about what she meant. How would she fix the way society works all on her own? "How do you plan on doing that?" Aizawa asked.
"I don't know, but I'll figure it out. It's bullshit how heroes are looked at as someone who can't do anything wrong, but when they make a slight mistake, they are the worst person in the world. They are never left alone when they're out in public, they are scrutinized at every turn, and when they fall, who helps them? And not to mention those money grubbing assholes who only became heroes for the money or fame. Disgusting."
"Then be a hero." Aizawa spoke with more emotion this time "become a hero that others like you could look up to. Change the status quo."
That gave her something to think about. She never really thought of becoming one before, not seeing the appeal after fighting for most of her life, but she knew she would need influence and power to alter people's way of thinking. "Maybe I will," She mumbled.
She was so engrossed in her thoughts, she didn't see the spread of approving glances around her. Even Aizawa had a fond look on his face as he went back to finishing his food. The adults all knew that it was the coming generations that would change the world for the better. Which is why they became teachers in the first place, it was their job to ready their students to what was to come outside the safety of the school. Showing them how to survive in the world. They all knew that the current system couldn't hold out for long, that it needed a reform, but they couldn't do it themselves. They had to instill it into the next generation.
Aizawa interrupted Miwako's training with Hound Dog to ask for a favor. "I need you to spar with my students."
Hound Dog and Miwako were confused by the random request. "Why?"
"They need to be taught a lesson that doesn't seem to stick with just a lecture alone."
She shrugged her shoulders at the vague answer and followed behind him to one of the training grounds she was unfamiliar with. There stood a large group of students all in their hero uniforms with another teacher keeping an eye on them.
She stood a little behind Aizawa as he introduced her to them. "This is Miwako Uzumaki, you all will be fighting her in groups of 3-4, quirks allowed."
One of the students loudly protested while the others whispered between them at the absurdity of the request. "Aizawa-sensei I don't think it's very honorable to beat up a little kid like her."
She raised her brow at this highly offended, until she remembered that she was only 10 and was already short for her age. After the first kid spoke the others gained some confidence to voice their own concerns. Some were genuinely worried for her safety, others were just annoyed at having to waste their time on a kid.
"Sensei, how is she going to defend herself against us?"
"She's going to get hurt!"
"We've been training to take down villains, not a kid."
Vlad King raised his voice to get their attention back. "ENOUGH! As future heroes you will be faced with a multitude of different scenarios. You could be a seasoned Pro and yet still loose a fight to someone significantly younger than you. This is a lesson for you all to not underestimate your opponents."
Aizawa took over the lecture as all the students' eyes were looking at her in interest now. "Vlad King is correct. The leading cause for serious injuries in Pros is their arrogance. You must never underestimate your opponent no matter the situation and none of you seem to understand that, so have this serve as a lesson for you all in a controlled environment. Your objective is to capture her in any way necessary. If she incapacitates you or lands a seemingly 'killing' blow you are out. Your team loses if each member is 'killed' or unable to move. Any questions?"
A student stepped up. "What's her quirk?"
Vlad King answered with a gruff voice. "A majority of times you don't get to know while out in the field as you had first hand experience during your internships and so you won't get to know this time either. Choose your teams wisely, you have 5 minutes."
As the students scrambled to form their groups she spoke to the teachers. "So you want me to humble them?" She was amused at the deviation of her normal schedule.
A creepy smile stretched Aizawa's lips. "Exactly, those brats don't know what's coming."
She stepped closer to Vlad when she saw his expression.
The time was up and the first group stayed at the ground floor with her while the others went into the viewing room with their teachers. She took note of their appearance, but none of them had very obvious outward traits that could clue her in on their quirks.
She narrowed her eyes at their lax forms even when waiting for the signal to begin from their teacher. Humble them huh? She grabbed her kunais and held them behind her out of their view. Even when the countdown began for them to start, the students still only half heartedly moved into a fighting stance.
At the signal she threw the kunais in her hand, cutting each of them. They didn't even have a chance to charge at her, let alone dodge her attack. The boy in the middle raised a shaky hand to his cheek as if he couldn't believe she landed a hit on him until he saw the blood on his fingers. "Team A you are out! Team B you're up." Aizawa's voice said over the speakers and it shook them out of their stunned states. She calmly walked to gather her weapons, not wanting to show off her quirk just yet.
The boy that raised his hands to his cheek started violently protesting. "Wait a second! That wasn't fair! She only scratched our face!"
Aizawa spoke again, his tone signifying he wasn't happy at their inability to accept defeat. "And did any of you even try to move away from it? No, that could have easily been your neck if this was real. You are out, now get back up here before I come to collect you myself."
The students stood there for a second longer before sulking to the observation room as the next group came down. This time it was a group of 3 boys and 1 girl each with trepidation in their eyes.
They got into a tense fighting stance once they got into position in front of here. She smirked at the complete change in attitude. She decided to give them a chance this time instead of immediately attacking.
The four decided to try to overwhelm her all at once and each leaped at her simultaneously once the signal was given. It was laughably predictable and she sidesteps their attacks with ease. One by one each failed with a nick on their neck or chest before even a full minute passed and she still hasn't had to use her quirk
With each group that was sent to her, each failed without making a scratch on her. Once the last group was sent down she left with them to come to the observation room. She waked to stand next to the teachers, facing the group of students that all looked like they were still trying to wrap their heads around what happened.
Aizawa addressed the class, "Do you all understand now what Vlad King and I have been trying to instill into your heads. Age does not equate to skill, never forget that."
The girl that asked about her quirk raised her hand again to ask the same question, but instead of answering, Aizawa asked the class what they thought her quirk was. There was a large debate. Each thought her quirk had to do with the kunais she wielded which was semi true. They thought she either had enhanced reflexes, paired with a mind reading ability to know what they were going to attack her with to dodge everything they threw at her.
Once they were done deliberating they gave their best guess. "You all are close, but not quite right." Vlad King said. "She does in fact have enhanced senses but only for smell and hearing. Her quirk does have something to do with her weapons, but she didn't even use it in the matches."
The room exploded when they were told she never even used her quirk against them. They were second year students in the hero course, yet were completely beaten by a kid several years younger than them that didn't even use their quirk.
They all stopped speaking when she stepped out from between the two students, her kunai back in her hand as she lightly threw it to the student closest to her. They scrambled to catch the weapon holding it with a confused look on their face as they inspected it. The other students nearby also crowded around her weapon to get a better look at it. "My quirk is teleportation. See those markings on the handle? They are a conduit of sorts to get me from place to place. I can only travel somewhere I have already placed my mark, which is why I use kunais. Everything I did today was strictly from years of training my body and honing my skill."
She demonstrated her ability and appeared right in front of the girl she threw her weapon towards. The student body flinched back at her sudden appearance. Miwako held out her hand to take it back before walking back to her original position. Aizawa dismissed the class to change back into their school uniforms before thanking Miwako for helping him teach the class.
"I wasn't too mean was I?" She asked.
"No, you did what I asked you to. Some lessons have to be taught the hard way and if that means my students live a long life, so be it." Aizawa said.
She nodded and said her goodbyes to them both before tracking down Hound Dog again who moved back to his office.
