"Hey, do you want to come over to my house for my birthday party?" Miwako asked Bakugou as they sat in the shade. They became close after continuously meeting up to train over the past few months, however Bakugou has never been to her house before.
"Ask your other shitty friends."
"My 'other shitty friends' as you put it are all adults. You are quite literally my only friend." She said.
Bakugou scowled, feeling a little guilty, but refused to apologize. "Fine, I'll bless your lame party with my presence" She beamed and pulled out an invitation that she made herself. "Here you go, all the information is on there."
"Looked like a fucking five year old made it."
"Hey, that's the first invitation I've ever made." She frowned.
Bakugou groaned, goddamnit. Everything she said just made him feel bad today. "It's not the worst I've ever seen I guess."
The birthday party was just a week away, he had to think about what to bring. He was an asshole and he knew it, but not that big of an asshole to not buy something for her birthday. He went shopping after school during the week and found something that caught his eye. A simple necklace with a long blue stone of some kind between two silver beads.
He didn't know why, but something about that necklace called to him. He always trusted his gut, and so he bought it.
He knocked on the door the day of the party and it was All Might that opened the door in his skeletal form. Bakugou noticed he looked even skinnier than when they first met all those months ago.
"Hello young Bakugou, come on in." All Might stood to the side as he opened the door wider, showing a room fully decorated with balloons and streamers. A large cake sitting on the table with the candles shaped into the number 14, not lit yet.
"Thank you." Once he was fully inside, he saw more people with Miwako all sitting around each other. She looked up and waved him over. "Bakugou! Come sit next to me, I'll introduce you to everyone."
He sat as he looked around the room, she wasn't lying when she said everyone else she knew were adults. Miwako started with the person closest to the left of them. "This is Hound Dog, you already met Aizawa, Recovery Girl, Principal Nezu, Present Mic, and of course my Dad. They all work at UA."
He just nodded at them and Aizawa spoke, "I see you gained some more muscles. Gonna keep improving for the entrance exam next year kid?"
Bakugou smirked. "Hell yeah I am. I'm gonna be number 1."
All Might had a small secretive smile on his face. "Number one huh." He said.
"Damn straight. I'm gonna beat All Might." At his proclamation, everyone in the room now had secretive smiles, not that Bakugou could really tell.
Miwako clapped her hands together and stood. "Now that Bakugou is here, let's eat! I'm starving."
Dinner was a calm event, conversation was flowing smoothly despite the few shouts here and there from Bakugou. Everyone sang happy birthday-besides Bakugou who just stood glaring with his arms crossed as if telling her you wouldn't catch me dead singing for you-as she blew out the candle.
Opening the presents, she got a variety of things again, but her most precious one was the necklace from Bakugou. Everyone in the room recognized it and had shock written all over their face. "Where did you get this?" She asked
Bakugou waved his hands in the air. "From this store at the mall. Damn shopkeeper said it was 'one of a kind', but like hell I believe that shit. All of em-"
He was cut off when a pair of arms wrapped themselves round him. "It's perfect." She said.
His arms were half raised as if to either push her off or hug her back. He hesitated not knowing what to do, not used to people wanting to hug him. He settled with just a simple pat on her head, dropping his other arm back down to his side. "It's nothing." He mumbled, growing slightly pink.
She pulled away and slipped it over her head, rubbing the gem between her fingers. "Do you want to play the games I got today? It's not that late yet, unless you wanna go home?"
His pink hue completely gone as the need to win overtook his slight embarrassment. "I'll kill you in any game whiskers." He was completely right as she raged at the nth loss for the night. He was cackling evilly next to her, reveling in his victories. He refused to show mercy even to the birthday girl.
They decided to call it a night and Aizawa told him that he would drive him home since it was so late. Bakugou tried protesting, but Aizawa wasn't going to let a kid walk home by himself so late at night.
After that night, Bakugou and Miwako got even closer, almost always at each other's houses. Whenever he visited her, she had to take down all the photos she had of Konoha since she couldn't exactly explain to him what or who they all were. One day while at her house, he saw All Might coughing up blood and finally asked what was wrong with him. They told him he just had a chronic condition so he wouldn't ask too many questions.
Their friendship wasn't a secret, but Miwako didn't really have any other friends besides him and Bakugou didn't see any reason to talk about her to his other 'friends' and so when she appeared at the window of his class one day, everyone was shocked.
He was packing up for the day, ready to go home when the pounding of the glass had him looking up as his classmates screamed. Miwako was hanging onto the window gesturing with one arm for him to open the window. He raged while stomping over to it. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" He screamed as he reached out to pull her through. "This is the third floor. How the fuck did you get up here?"
She waved her kunai in the air. "My quirk duh. Anyway I got great news!" She was bouncing in her place with excitement.
"Couldn't you have fucking waited?" He glowered with his hands at his hips. The class looked back and forth between them in shock. However, no one was more shocked than a green haired boy.
She grabbed onto his shoulder as if to shake him. "Absolutely not! The doctors found a way to help my dad. He won't be in so much pain anymore and wont be so skinny either. He can finally eat without it feeling like razor blades are sliding down his throat and stop coughing blood!"
She was only half telling the truth. It wasn't doctors as in multiple, but more like a combined effort between her and Recovery Girl. Science and medicine was advanced and yet behind in some ways compared to Konoha and so with Recovery Girl's help, and Miwako's memories, she was able to create a seal that would help All Might. It would never bring back his stomach, or get rid of his scar, but it significantly improved his way of living.
He could start gaining weight back by being able to eat more, and absorb the nutrients more efficiently. The seal was placed directly over his scar that she inked on herself and after testing it worked just as intended. Right after she rushed to Bakugou's side to tell him. His eyes widened at the news, his lips in a small barely there smile. He was happy for her, he knew just how worried she was about her father's health. "I'm glad."
She squealed and jumped to wrap him in a hug. He easily caught her, having already been used to her randomly attacking him with affection. "We are all going out to celebrate tonight at the new BBQ place that just opened. He hasn't been able to eat anything that heavy for years so we thought it would be the perfect place to go. You're gonna come right?"
He shrugged as much as he could with her still in his arms. "Sure, got nothing better to do anyway."
"Uhh Bakugou? I thought we were supposed to go to the arcade later?" A voice called from behind them which finally made them realize there was a large audience watching.
Bakugou placed her on the ground as he turned around with a scowl. "Did I fucking stutter? I said I got nothin' better to do. The arcade isn't going anywhere." The one that spoke shrank away at his tone. Miwako chuckled lightly, guess he has a reputation she thought
Another boy leered at her from the back of the room. "Oi, you didn't mention you got a girlfriend Bakugou."
"As fucking if I'd date her." He said without hesitation causing some of the girls to wilt at his harshness. When they saw them together they had fantasies of the brash and loud bad boy falling for a nice and kind girl. The perfect romance trope.
The boy laughed and spoke to her next, not taking his eyes off of her ample chest. "Why don't you ditch him princess and hang out with me? Bet we could have more fun together than having him constantly yelling at ya."
She held Bakugou back by one of her arms as she used the other to throw her kunai, creating a deep gash in the pervert's face. He scrambled back with a shout holding onto his bleeding cheek. "What the fu-"
Suddenly the class saw that she was no longer beside Bakugou who was smirking at the scene. They all turned their heads and saw her holding the boy by his neck in the air. He was turning purple from the lack of oxygen as she kept a serene smile on her face. "I don't think it's very polite to talk to someone like that."
She pulled her kunai out of the wall and held it threateningly by the boy's eye. "Don't ever talk badly about my friend again, and if I ever catch you staring at a girl the way you stared at my chest…" She leaned in adopting Bakugou's manic grin "I'll fucking kill you."
She dropped him with a look of disgust as he gasped for air on the ground and walked back to Bakugou, a happy expression back on her face. "Ready to go?" she asked him and held out her hand.
"Copying me now huh princess?" He teased as he placed his hand in hers and they disappeared from view. Midoriya tore open his backpack to reach for his notebook. He scribbled as much as he could about Miwako's appearance, and theorized what her quirk was. He mumbled frantically as he thought. There were too many blanks on the page and he vowed to try and talk to her if he ever saw her again. Coincidentally, the page he chose to write about her with was also the one next to the entries about Ghost.
It was proving harder than he thought to get any information on her however. Miwako hadn't appeared in the class since that day, and Bakugou wasn't offering any information. He wouldn't even say her name out loud.
It was by luck when Midoriya spotted the two of them walking out of an arcade several weeks later. Bakugou was the first to spot him, immediately flying into a rage. "Damn Deku!"
Miwako looked around confused. "The hell is a deku?"
Midoriya slightly died inside as he raised his hand and spoke up. "That's me."
She gave him a once over. "Is that your name?"
"Don't fucking talk to him!" Bakugou yelled as he tried pulling her away. She shook him off frowning. "Don't tell me who to talk to."
Bakugou grumbled under his breath as he looked away and shoved his hands in his pockets. Miwako rolled her eyes at his attitude before giving her attention back to Midoriya. "So, who are you?"
"Ah, I'm Izuku Midoriya." He turned red instantly, fidgeting with his notebook. Oh my god I'm talking to a girl!
"Fucking quirkless loser." Bakugou mumbled.
That made Miwako's eye twitch as she slowly turned around. "Say that again I dare you. I'll be happy to kick your ass right here, right now."
"Hmph." Bakugou looked away.
Midoriya almost fainted when Bakugou backed down. "K-Kacchan y-you…"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT DEKU!"
Miwako rushed to get in between them both. "What's so wrong about him calling you Kacchan if you call him Deku? Now hush, it's nice to meet you Midoriya, I'm Miwako Uzumaki. Is there something you need?"
Midoriya frantically flipped open his notebook. "Yes! I um, I wanted to ask you about your quirk." He showed her the information he wrote down about her.
She smiled as she looked it over. "Ask away."
His face turned serious as he got his pen out ready to write her answers. "So from what I saw I assume your quirk has to do with teleportation, or even extreme speed is that correct? And I saw you waving your knife around and I figured it was connected to some extent. Maybe a conduit because you threw it and then appeared across the room. Do you have to throw it? Oh wait you didn't when-"
"Damnit Deku! She can't answer shit if you don't give her time to answer the fucking questions!" Bakugou exploded
That made Midoriya snap out of his mutterings and saw Miwako laughing a little, an amused smile on her face and he flushed in embarrassment. "Oh r-right."
Miwako grabbed Bakugou's arm and tilted her head toward the benches closest to them. "Lets go sit down instead of standing in the middle of a sidewalk."
"Don't drag me!" Bakugou yelled but made no moves to get out of her hold.
Once they sat down with her in the middle as the buffer between them she explained. "So my quirk's name is Flying Thunder God. It's basically just teleportation." Taking out her kunai she handed it over to him. "You were semi right when saying it was a conduit of sorts, it's actually the markings on the handle, not the actual weapon itself. I don't need to throw it for it to work."
He was scribbling away muttering after she finished talking. He inspected the handle and copied the image as best he could onto the page. He fired off more questions and she answered each of them until the whole page was filled.
He closed it, a happy smile on his face, his curiosity finally satiated. "Thank you for answering my questions."
"You're welcome, can I ask why you have a book filled with other people's quirk?" She was curious, especially since she also saw Ghost's page and noticed the cover saying it was the 13th edition.
"Ah, I'm just interested in quirks, I figured it would make me a better hero if I studied different quirks and how other people use them." He was embarrassed saying that to someone for the first time. No one's ever taken any interest in him or his hobbies in a very long time.
A scoff was heard coming from the other side of the bench. "As if you could ever be a hero without a quirk Deku."
Miwako was annoyed. "Just what is your problem with him Bakugou? He can very well be a hero without a quirk if he tries hard enough, or do I need to remind you who always wins our spars without using quirks."
"I don't have to sit here and listen to this shit." He spouted out as he stood up and stomped away.
Miwako reached her hand out. "Bakugou wait!" He moved out of her grasp before she could latch onto his sleeve. She closed her hand into a tight fists and let it fall with an exhale. "What the hell happened between you two?" She asked Midoriya.
He was frowning as he watched his childhood friend's retreating back. "We were close when we were kids, but then I found out that I didn't have a quirk. Things changed after that."
"I'm sorry Midoriya, I'll try to talk to him. He shouldn't bully you just because you don't have a one"
That made him sit up and frantically wave his hands in the air in a negative fashion. "Please don't! That would just make him more angry."
She raised a brow, "He's my friend and I can't let my friend treat someone like shit for practically no reason."
Midoriya put his hands down and slumped in his seat before twiddling his thumbs, "Did you mean it?" he asked.
She tilted her head in confusion. "Mean what?"
"That I could be a hero, without a quirk." He asked nervously. Everyone has just either humored him, or flat out laughed at his dreams once they knew. They would try to placate him and say he could help and be a hero as a police officer or firefighter, or paramedic, but never an actual pro hero.
"Of course." The conviction in her voice had him snapping his head up to look into her eyes. "I'm not going to lie, it'll be damn hard. You'll need to put in more work than anyone else. Since Junior High would be ending in just a month, you only have roughly 11 months to train for the UA entrance exam. Blood, sweat, and tears will need to be shed for you to reach your goal. You'll also probably need a lot of support equipment, but there are plenty of companies that can make them."
Midoriya's eyes grew wide as tears started dripping down his face. During her speech, more started falling and now he was shaking with sobs and he covered his face with one of his arms, hunched over himself.
He couldn't stop, crying harder once he felt a hand being placed on his back, giving him some comfort. "Thank you." He was able to spit out through hard sobs.
"You don't need to thank me Midoriya." She said softly, moving her hand from his back to pat his hair instead. "I'll help train you if you want."
Midoriya slowly regained his composure. He wiped his face with a smile that almost hurt to look at. A smile that was so familiar, it tugged on her heart. "Really?" He asked excitedly.
She silently nodded, not able to look away from his face. It seemed almost impossible, but his smile grew even wider. "Yes, please!"
"You remind me of someone." She said.
"Who?"
"Someone very dear to me."
