Bakugou felt a sense of deja vu as he stood in front of Miwako's front door, waiting for someone to open it. All Might was shocked when he opened the door and saw Bakugou standing there. He was still feeling guilty over his daughter's deteriorated friendship since he was the one to send Bakugou up to her room.
"Ah, young Bakugou. Come in, I'll go tell Miwako you're here." He said as he walked up the stairs. "Miwako, Bakugou is here. Do you want to see him?"
Miwako paused the show she was watching, a thoughtful look on her face as she played with the blanket over her lap. All Might walked closer and sat down on her bed. "You don't have to if you don't want to."
"It's not that Dad. I just don't know what to say to him."
"Well, the truth is always a great place to start." He said kindly and took one of her hands in his. "I think young Bakugou would accept both you and your past. While he certainly has the most, um, unique personality, he cares a great deal about you."
Miwako mulled over his words before nodding her head. "Ok, can you send him up, please? I want to tell him everything."
All Might stood up. "Of course, I'll let his mother know he's probably going to be spending the night then." He walked back down the stairs and saw Bakugou sitting on the couch. "You can go up now." Bakugou nodded and walked past him.
He stood in the doorway, not entering. "Hey."
"Hi." Miwako said and she moved to shift to the side of the bed, patting the bed to let him know she wanted him to sit down next to her. He didn't move though, "Are you going to tell me everything?" he asked. It was only after her confirmation did he take a step inside.
She grabbed his hand to play with his fingers before she spoke. It always calmed her nerves and he knew it so he let it go."I'm going to preface this by saying that I know a lot of secrets and some aren't mine to share. Please understand I can't tell you everything I know, but I will tell you everything about myself. You can ask questions at the end if you want."
Bakugou took a deep breath in and exhaled slowly, thinking it over. "Ok."
"I…" She tried figuring out where she should start. "I never lied when I said my family died years ago…but I withheld the fact that I did as well. The real reason I was on the streets was not because my family lived off the grid, I literally didn't exist here in Japan or anywhere in this reality until a few years ago. I woke up in an alley when I was 8…" She told him her story, not stopping in fear she would not be able to continue. Bakugou kept his word, he didn't speak the entire time.
"And that brings us to now." She ended and waited for him to speak.
"Show me."
Her head snapped up to look at him, his face completely unreadable. "What?"
"Show me, you let the others see, I want to as well."
"Katsuki, it's not something you should want to see. I let them because they were all seasoned veterans, they could handle it."
"You sayin' I'm fucking weak? Show me."
She sighed, having an internal battle with herself. On one hand, it'll help him believe her and trust her again, on the other hand, it could permanently scar him. The others that she showed were pros who had already experienced the worst of humanity but Bakugou hasn't. Not yet at least. "If at any point I feel as though it's too much I'm pushing you out and you can't fight me on it. That's the only way I'll agree to this."
He scowled, finally showing some emotion again, but relented. She adjusted in the bed so she was now laying on her side and she gestured for him to do the same so their backs don't ache from sitting still for so long. When he blinked she took that moment to pull him into her mind space. Since he already knew what to expect, he wasn't startled and just observed the forest.
"So that's the furball." He said inspecting Kurama.
"How dare you insult me in my own home you insignificant plebeian." Kurama growled as he lowered his head down to come face-to-face with Bakugou.
Miwako quickly got between the two. "Alright, that's enough. Let's just get this show on the road."
She started the same way she showed the other teachers. As her memories played, he kept a tight grip on her hand. He squeezed hard enough for her to wince when it got to her first kill, but surprisingly that was his only reaction to the gruesome scene.
He would ask questions here and there for clarity but ultimately just observed. When it reached her fight with Hidan and Kakuzu, he pulled her in closer and unconsciously gripped the fabric over her stomach where her old wound was. Where he had also hurt her.
She touched his hand as she moved his head away from the fight to focus on her. "Katsuki, I'm ok. I don't have any injuries there anymore. Do you need a break?" She looked deep into his eyes for any sign of lies when he refused.
They continued, and by the time they reached the war, his arms were wrapped tight around her as if he could protect her from what already happened in the past. He flinched back, slamming his eyes shut as his hand bruised her hip when her death played out.
Once they got back to reality, it was long past midnight. "How are you sane?" Was the first thing he asked her.
"I don't know but…I'm so tired." Exhaustion clouded her features as she thought over everything. From a young age, she's been fighting to make a living for herself and her brother, and now, she's back fighting. Bakugou brushed her hair away from her face. "...What did you want to be? I never asked before."
She gave him a tired smile, but her eyes brightened when she thought about her ultimate dream. "I want to be a mom." Her own mother loved her children enough to sacrifice her own life, with no hesitation. She wanted to know what that maternal love was, wanted to raise her own child, and wanted to love them unconditionally. "I know it's probably a little weird that-"
He cut her off, "It's not weird, it's your dream. I'm sorry I pushed you to be a hero with me." She shook her head, placing a hand on his cheek, "There's nothing to apologize for. I don't want to fight anymore, but how could I sit back watching my family risk their lives every day while I do nothing? It's just…everything is so different. What we talked about before, about the corruptness of some heroes, it was easier to deal with back then. If you were a bad guy, we would just kill you. Here though, there are trials, the public image, politics-it's all too much."
"Hey, didn't I tell you that we're gonna change it all?" She didn't say anything and just nodded, he sighed and looked at the clock. "Let's just go to sleep, we got school in the morning." He said as he pulled the covers out from underneath them.
"Wait, do…does this change anything?" She asked.
He pulled her in close, "I'm still fuckin' here aren't I? Now go the fuck to sleep." He pushed her head down on his chest as they dozed off quickly, both exhausted. However, sleep didn't last for him as his eyes shot open and he frantically pulled her shirt up to inspect her stomach. That action woke her up quickly as she came around to the feeling of his hand running over the smooth expanse of her stomach with a look of fear in his eyes.
"I knew I shouldn't have-" She started, feeling guilty for adding to his nightmares. He already still had dreams about the sludge villain and here she was giving him more shit to keep him awake at night.
"Shut up 's fine." His voice was still gruff from sleepiness. He flopped back down on the bed once he was satisfied she was uninjured. He buried his face into her hair as they tried to get as much sleep as they could before morning. He would never admit it to her, but he missed having her in his arms. He didn't know when it started, the constant need for her to be there, but without her nothing was right. He had a sneaking suspicion of what he was feeling but wasn't ready to admit it just yet.
The pair sluggishly got ready in the morning, downing two cups of coffee each. Miwako would have just flashed to the school, but Principal Nezu had banned her from defacing school property with her quirk.
"You don't have any more secrets right?" He asked, holding the umbrella above them as they slowly walked to school
"I told you all of mine, but like I said, there are some I know that I can't tell you." She said hoping he understood. She would love to tell him exactly who her dad was, but that wasn't hers to share. She also didn't want to preemptively tell anyone about her investigation into the HPSC.
"It's fine." He grumbled. Both were too tired to pay attention to what was going on around them, if they did they would have heard the whispers.
"Hey isn't that the kid that won the festival?"
"Yeah, I think so."
"Are they dating? Oh my gosh, they look so cute together."
"Right! Look, he's even got his arm around her as he holds the umbrella. I bet she left because she couldn't fight her own boyfriend."
They were accosted when they opened the classroom door, unusually late for the pair. "Miwa where did you go?" Kirishima asked.
"Family issue, sorry Ei. I was busy and couldn't respond to your texts." She said apologetically as they sat down.
"It's alright as long as you are." He said cheerfully. He looked between the pair and his grin got wider. "You guys made up! Figures all it took was you guys actually fighting it out."
The door slid open and everyone rushed to their seats, sitting attentively. "Morning." Aizawa said. "Today we will be holding a special hero informatics class, you all will be choosing your hero names."
The class erupted into loud shouts of excitement that quickly quieted down when Aizawa activated his quirk. "I told you all before about pro hero drafts the other day. Normally, it's reserved for 2nd and 3rd years, but you all showed promise. Here are the totals for those that were picked, there is quite the skew in number this year."
The numbers appeared on the board and the class was shocked. "What! I have more offers than Uzumaki." Kaminari exclaimed.
"How did that happen?" Kirishima asked.
Miwako shrugged. "Probably because I left suddenly in the middle of my match. No one wants a flake, but look at you Eijiro." She looked at him with a happy smile. "You got the third most votes, even more than Tokoyami." The whole class started praising him, causing a blush to form on his face.
"It's nothing," He tried to wave it off, "I couldn't have done it without Miwako."
"Oh? It's Miwako now." Mina teased, causing Kirishima's blush to darken. He tried changing the subject. "Hey look, it's reversed for Bakugou and Todoroki."
Sero snickered close to him and whispered. "They're probably too scared to work with the guy that had to be restrained."
That caught Miwako's attention as shouted at Bakugou. "Restrained? You had to be restrained?!"
"Tch, it's all icy hot's fault." He grumbled as he looked away.
"That's enough." Aizawa interrupted, "Even with these results, all of you will have internships with heroes. Which is why you need to choose your names today. The names you pick will follow you so choose wisely or-"
"Or you'll have hell to pay later!" Midnight continued as she slid the door open. "They might even become your professional names.
"Midnight will be appraising your names, I'm gonna nap." He slid on his sleeping bag and rolled to the corner of the room.
Whiteboards were passed around, and when she turned back to face the front she saw Bakugou already scribbling something down. She leaned forward trying to see what he wrote. "You already have a name?"
He moved the board out of her view and glared. "Of course I do!"
She moved back to her seat, thinking of what she wanted to be called as others presented. She never picked a name before, back in the hidden villages, the names were normally just given to you when you make a name for yourself and Ghost was given a name by the public.
She scratched her cheek with the marker and inspiration struck. "What do you think of that Kurama?"
"Not a bad name brat."
She wrote it down quickly and went after Jiro. She turned her board around to show the class, "The fox hero: Kitsune". Kirishima cheered, "That's for your whiskers right?"
She glanced at Bakugou who smirked at her, hiding it behind his hand. "Yeah, let's go with that."
"King Explosion Murder!" Before Midnight could shoot the name down herself, Miwako jumped out of her seat, arms formed into a large X. "Absolutely not." She would be a horrible best friend if she allowed a name like that.
He stomped to his seat and rewrote the name, she stole it out of his hand before he could get back behind the podium. "Katsuki this is the same!" She yelled as she erased the whole thing. He yanked the board back and slammed it on his desk.
"Now that you all have chosen your names, those that had agencies reaching out will be given a separate list from those that didn't get any offers. Each agency has different specialties, choose wisely. The internships will last for a week." Aizawa said as he handed out the papers as students left for lunch.
As Miwako sat down with her lunch tray, Midoriya came up behind her and tapped her shoulder. "Can we talk for a second?"
"Oh yeah sure." She got back up but handed the list in her backpack to Bakugou. "Can you take a look at it for me? I don't really know who to choose." He grumbled in annoyance but still yanked the paper out of her hands.
Midoriya and Miwako walked into the hallway. "With the internships happening, we probably won't be able to train my quirk for a while. I was wondering if we could tonight before you get busy." he asked.
"Yeah that's fine with me, come over to my place and we can train there. Just meet me outside the school and I can use my quirk to get us there" She said
"V-visit All Might's house?" He was in shock. He was invited to go to his idol's home.
"Yeah, it's not a big deal. If it gets too late you could sleep in the guest room."
"A sleepover!" He shouted, eyes swirling. "I've never had a sleepover before."
"Well, now you can."
"Young Midoriya! There you are." All Might said as he suddenly appeared behind him. "I need to talk to you about your internship. Hello Miwako, have you decided where you are going to go?"
"No, I'm probably just gonna let Katsuki decide." She said before waving at them. "See you later."
She sat back down and Bakugou shoved the list in her face, a name circled for her. "Best Jeanist" she mumbled. She tried recalling if she ever worked with him before, "Why him?"
"He's the highest on your list, mine too," Bakugou said between bites of food.
She looked at him blankly. "That's the reason why you chose him?"
"Damn right, I would never go for those lesser heroes." He spat
"When this goes badly for you, I'm going to laugh." She said and he ignored her.
"Wow, so this is All Might's house." Midoriya squealed like the fanboy he was as he ran from place to place. She let him, watching on amused as he oohed and awed at the most mundane of things. "Alright, that's enough, head to the backyard."
They sat in the grass, and she started instructing him on how to breathe. "Steady your breathing, and feel how your lungs expand and contract with each inhale and exhale. Clear your mind of everything but your body. Reach for OFA and slowly bring your power up but don't activate it."
Lines started appearing on his arms rapidly and Miwako slapped him in the back of the head. "I said slowly! And why is it only appearing on your arms?"
"Sorry sorry." He said before his eyes shot open. "Wait, shouldn't it be where I'm using it?"
Miwako looked at him bewildered. "Izuku, your quirk works on your entire body. Not just concentrated in one area at a time. Is that what you've been doing!?" she screamed.
"Aha…yes?"
Her eyes twitch in irritation. "Start over and spread it across your whole body."
Barely scratching the top of his power as he inhaled and let it go as he exhaled, drawing more and more power with each breath. "That's it." Miwako encouraged, "Get a feel for it. Understand what it does to your body."
Midoriya had his brows scrunched up as he tried listening to her orders. He could feel it just beneath the surface of his skin, but he could also feel the strain it puts on his body before he releases it and it slithers back to its dormant state. Miwako had to hit him several more times as she felt like he was getting too close to activating it fully, but eventually, he got the hang of it.
"Alright, you're gonna keep doing this breathing exercise every night to get used to your quirk. Everyone else had theirs for years, it became a part of them, an extension of their body that they don't have to think about to use. Since you don't have that luxury, you have to train your body to recognize it unconsciously. Now, do it again, but this time, think of it in percentages as you increase and decrease your power. Tell me at what point does it start being too much."
Focusing on his quirk he imagined a battery in his mind. "5% seems like the max. I could go a few percentages higher, but I could feel my muscles start to twitch slightly." He was feeling dejected at how low he had to keep his powers.
Miwako nodded. "5% with a power like OFA is just fine. Now, can you keep it steady is the real question."
"I'm gonna try." He said determined. His control kept slipping, either going too high or losing it altogether. Miwako could see he was getting frustrated and stopped him. "Hey, let's go inside for a break and dinner. You did well so far."
Midoriya was shocked at how late it was already and his stomach rumbled loudly. "R-right!" They walked into the house and All Might was placing the food down at the table with a frilly blue apron on. "Ah! Food prepared by All Might!" Midoriya screamed.
Miwako chuckled as she pushed him down into his seat. "Just eat already." She turned to All Might with a glare who flinched back. "What the hell have you been teaching him?"
"Miwako I was doing my best." he whimpered.
Midoriya was quick to assure him that he was doing great. That he was the best teacher around. Miwako scoffed, as much as she loved her father, she knew he wasn't the best teacher. Once they finished dinner they all went outside to continue Midoriya's training.
"Now that you have food in your stomach, think you could do it this time?" Miwako stood in front of him with her arms crossed.
"Yes, this time, I'll succeed." He widened his stance, clenching his hands together, and concentrated hard. The lines appeared all over his body again, but this time they sunk back down and green lighting appeared over his body. He was able to hold it for a few seconds before it faded and he collapsed onto his knees. "I-I did it!" his face shot up to the sky as rivers of tears spewed from his eyes.
Miwako and All Might rapidly moved out of the splash zone as Midoriya continued crying. "M-Miwako, thank you!"
Miwako absently nodded as she looked at the growing puddles he was making. "At least he's watering the plants." She said to her father. All Might just chuckled as he pulled her into a side hug, looking between the both of them. I got damn good kids.
AN: It's been forever since I was able to post two chapters in one month. I hope you all enjoy this one!
