Chapter Fourteen

Outside Dinah's room…

David had just finished his phone call when Alan and Charlie came up to him, making him wonder what they needed to talk about now.

"What's up?" The agent asked as Megan came out of the room

"We got an update on Colby's condition and…well… there's a complication." Alan said cautiously

"What kind of complication?" David asked, now really worried

"He has an infection, and before you say anything about the hospital, it had already started before he was even injured." Alan said rather quickly

"What caused the infection?" Megan asked, though both she and David had a pretty good idea as to what

"They think it could be related to the injections." Charlie said

"I would have said that he had looked fine but that would be a lie." Megan said, as she was now feeling guilty for not thinking about Colby's potential health issues.

David was feeling even more guilty, if that was even possible, as he was also wondering if Colby had noticed that he wasn't feeling well and just didn't say anything.

'Because I wouldn't have listened.' He thought to himself

"David?" Charlie asked his friend, seeing the guilt on the agent's face.

"He couldn't say anything because he didn't think that I would care and I don't want to think how right he might have been." David said quietly before he started heading to the elevator.

Charlie and Alan looked at each other before Charlie raced after David.

David was surprised to see the younger man come in the elevator with him and he wasn't sure what the professor was going to say.

"I'm sorry." Charlie said

"For what?" A surprised David asked

"For lashing out at you earlier. I am just worried about Don."

'It's okay, I deserved it for how I've been treating Colby." David said, wondering why the professor was even apologizing.

"Whatever the case, I was way out of line and we all need to have a talk after this." Charlie said, as he wasn't sure what else to even say.

"Yeah, we do." David agreed as he had been thinking the same thing.

Both of the men just hoped that they would find Don soon to do just that.
