Ch. 2 Brothers
It was a nice sunny day in Hage Village, the people were working the fields and doing other household chores around the village. When all of a sudden they heard a loud cry.
Village person 1 - "Is that Asta again? Kid sure has a set of pipes and a whole lot of energy to always be screaming his head off." he said with a chuckle
Village Person 2 - "He is most likely going to propose to Sister Lily." he also chuckles with the other man.
Meanwhile at the church, we see a boy about 15 years old down on his knees with a flower in hand looking like he's about to propose to a beautiful woman of the cloth with straight black hair, aqua eyes and a beauty mark next to her left eye. The woman in question is Sister Lily, someone who came to the forsaken realm to be a caretaker at the orphanage some years ago and ever since she joined Asta has been in love with her at first sight.
Asta - "SISTER LILY, I WILL BECOME THE WIZARD KING AND MAKE YOU HAPPY! SO THAT'S WHY WILL YOU MARRY ME!"
Sister Lily - "I'm sorry, but I am a nun so.."
But before she can finish Asta interrupted her.
Asta - "I'M NOT DONE YET!"
Asta and Sister Lily keep going back and forth with her saying no and him not accepting the rejection. Say what you want but this kid really does not give up haha. While the the back and forth kept going Sister Lily was getting ready to cast her [Water Creation Magic: Holy Fist of Love], An arm swung around her shoulder puller her close to someone, who was taller than her as he was 184 cm/6Ft while she was 160 cm/5ft 2in, this was Izir now 18 years old after many years living in the village with his brothers and sisters he has become a handsome looking man with a fit physique that does show off his muscles and his hair now longer now reaching his lower back that he had in a ponytail but still gave off a messy look.
Izir then punched Asta on the head, flattening him to the ground.
Izir - "Asta how many times do I have to tell you, Sister Lily is a woman of the cloth and cannot get married unless she finds someone she loves and wants to marry." he said while looking down at Asta with an almost exhausted look, but then he gave off a grin and there was a glint in his eyes. As he puts an arm around Sister Lily's waist and pulls her even closer to him.
Izir - "Besides, Lily is gonna be marrying me, after all we have been going out for awhile already."
Izir told Asta with a smirk, while Sister Lily was blushing for how close she was to him and also for how he casually said her name even though it was not the first time he had done that. Lily then composed herself.
Sister Lily - "Izir how many times have I said to not tease me and Asta." she said with a little tinge of pink on her cheeks, while looking away from him.
Asta who saw Sister Lily blushing and Izir still holding her by the waist, he quickly shot up from the ground, pointed a finger at his older brother and yelled at him. \
Asta - "LET GO OF SISTER LILY, YOU HANDSOME JERK AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU TWO ARE ALREADY WITH EACHOTHER."
Izr then let Lily go from his embrace, and started to laugh at Asta confusing him.
Izir - "Asta I am just joking with you. Me and Lily are not going out, like I said earlier she is a woman of the cloth and so she can not get married unless she finds someone she loves enough to leave the church for."
Then they both heard someone comment from behind him, joining in the conversation.
Yuno - "Izir is right Asta and even then you are short, immature, and also very loud. I do not see any qualities that appeal to women." he said nonchalantly
Asta - "Yuno how can you say that to someone you lived with for the past 15 years you handsome jerk, you and Izir are the same in that regard." He said with a shocked face after what Yuno said to him.
Izir - "Hey! I take offense to that, Yuno is the more cold and silent handsome type, while I am the more fun and outgoing handsome type." he said looking appalled being compared to his other little brother.
The other church kids had a wry smile and a little sweat drop after what Izir said, but then chuckled after as well since he did have a point, as he and Yuno were both handsome, yet had completely different personalities.
Asta - "Augh you two are jerks, I challenge both of you to a fight." he said with much determination.
Yuno - "No."
Asta was shocked
Asta - "Why not?!"
Yuno - "Because it is a waste of time. Go fight Izir, he will take you up on that."
Izir - "Oh oh, Asta you want to fight, let's go then come at me with all you got." he said with a joyful smile.
Asta gave off a smile as well since his brother also wanted to fight. So he was preparing a magic attack.
Nash - "I do not understand why you challenge Yuno or Izir when you…" Nash was saying while Asta finally threw his attack at Izir but nothing came out of it. While Nash continued on with "have no magic."
Asta was shocked that no magic came out at all and Nash told him how he has no magic skills whatsoever. Asta then told him to respect people older than him, but Nash then produced a small flame with his magic telling Asta that it did not matter as only magic determines everything in their world. Asta, not accepting that fact, started to do sit-ups while yelling. Meanwhile the kids turned around and saw Yuno using his wind magic to dry the laundry and put them up on the hanger. Sister Lily thanked him for the help, Asta decided that he was gonna chop up the logs for firewood but then Izir used his space magic and was able to pressurize the log into tiny block pieces to use as firewood.
Asta was distraught with his two brothers using magic so efficiently and effortlessly.
Nash - "I can't believe that you and Yuno are the same age and do not get me started on Brother Izir." he said with a blank face while looking at Astsa.
Izmir, Asta and Yuno were abandoned at the Church at the same time and all grew up with each other with Yuno and Asta looking up to Izir.
Asta - "SO WHY CAN'T I USE MAGIC BUT YOU TWO CAN!." he shouted at Yuno and Izir, both of them, having different answers.
Yuno - "It is due to Talent and Diligent effort." he told Asta
Izir - "What can I say, I am just that good." he said while laughing, while everyone sweat dropped after his not so serious answer. Then Izir had a serious face while looking at Asta.
Izmir - "In all serious Asta, Yuno was just born with his talent in magic and has been using it and training with it a lot more the past few years. While I… we already know what some people say, they call me a monster from the Forsaken Realm due to my talent in magic and all the mana I have that can rival a Captain already and that is even without a grimoire, we were just born with it."
Asta looked down dejectedly and was on his knees. Izir and Sister Lily try to comfort him by saying that he will most likely get his magic once he obtains his looked back at them with a smile on his face with tears coming down his face. He faced the giant skull around the village with stars in his eyes as he declared that, he would an amazing grimoire, join the magic knights and become the wizard king (he would also renovate the shabby church he said with almost a whisper but Father Orsi heard him anyways).
Nash then tells Asta that only those of Noble Households and royalty have the potential to become the Wizard King. Asta tries to argue back that everyone has potential to become the Wizard King. Nash counters back that Asta has already zero potential since he can't even use magic and that he has no prospects for a job, he even continues by saying the townspeople also make fun of him.
Asta then runs off to who knows where, Sister Lily is worried about him but then feels a hand on her shoulder and looks to see Izir, telling her that he will go look for him and talk.
As Izir goes to get Asta, Yuno quickly glances at Izir leaving to get Asta. While Izir was walking through the forest he heard some loud grunting and figured that is where Asta is by how loud he was. When he comes to a small clearing he sees Asta doing a one arm handstand push ups, which is impressive for someone Asta's age. He also sees Asta pull out some small canister that he heard Asta scream as moguro leaf juice which "supposedly" helps raise magic power. Asta tries to pull off a magic attack but again there was nothing. Izir chuckled seeing that but then got serious when saw Asta's downcasted face, he was gonna approach him and talk. But before he did Asta aid out loud with much confidence and determination that he will become the Wizard King and there is no stopping that because he never gives up.
Izir smiled hearing Astas words and started to head back to the village but before he left he saw Yuno also nearby hiding behind a tree with his fists clenched and a look of determination on his face. Again Izir chuckled thinking that even though Yuno has become much more cold and silent ever since that day Asta helped defend him and get his pendant by some thug, that he also sees Asta as a rival just as much as Asta does him.
It is now March where once a year all round, all the 15 year olds gather together to hold an awarding ceremony for Grimoires. These Grimoires increase the user's magical powers.
Once inside the magic tower we see Izir, Asta, Yuno, Sister Lily, Father Orsi and the rest of the church kids waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Nash - "Why did Izir wait three more years to get his grimoire?" he said with a look of confusion since he never really asked his brother before.
Sister Lily - "Izir wanted to wait until Asta and Yuno were 15 so that all three of them got their Grimoires at the same time." she replied to Nash answering his question.
Rekka - "Big brother Izir has always shown that he cares for us, so I am not surprised he waited a few years for Asta and Yuno to be 15 to get his Grimoire with them." she said with a smile on her face as she looked up to Izir ever since she was dropped off at the Church.
While everyone was waiting and Old Man with a wizard hat and a long and bushy beard/mustache named Drouot came on stage looking down at everyone. He then used a device and imbued magic into it to project his voice louder to the audience.
Drouot - "Welcome young men and women to the magic tower and to the yearly Grimoire awarding ceremony. I am Drouot the Master of this Grimoire Tower. Today all of you start to walk on a new path in life. I wish you all here today Faith, Hope and Love.
While Drouot was talking some of the teens were talking as to how they are now a full fledged mage starting today. Some teens noticed the Trio from the orphanage talking about how they look shabby (while a few women commented on how handsome Izir and Yuno were.) and if they need to hand Grimoires out to them.
Drouot then finishes up by saying he sincerely wishes that someone among them will become the Wizard King. Some of the teens thinking, that was an impossible wish. Drouot, as if knowing what they are thinking, yelled out that he was completely serious. He then started the ceremony.
Once the ceremony started, a ton of Grimoires started to come out the giant bookshelf in the tower, flying around landing in front of their respective owners. Some are talking about they are gonna take over their family business, leave the town and move to the city and some are thinking about what they are gonna be doing in the future once their Grimoire has more entries in it. Some more noble looking teens say that in 6 Months they will enter the Magic Knight Exam.
While all of them were chatting about their futures. Asta, while on one knee and his arms spread out waiting for his Grimoire to show, said out loud that his Grimoire is not showing up.
Everyone looked Asta's way and stared at him silently. Drouot, who was unsure of what to do, immediately told him to come back again next year for his Grimoire.
Asta, shocked, screamed out loud. Everyone around him looking at him started to laugh uncontrollably, finding the situation hilarious. Everyone from the Church also had extremely shocked faces. Izir looked at Asta with a stern expression on his face. Some Nobel teens commented on how this was to be expected from someone from the slums and how he looked even more pathetic.
Then a bright golden light was casted on a certain Grimoire. This Grimoire belonged to Yuno, the grimoire had a 4-leaf clover on the cover shocking everyone in the tower. Some citizens comment on how a 4-leaf clover Grimoire is the same as the one the first Wizard King had and how that Grimoire has great power and good luck withheld in it.
Yuno then took a hold of his Grimoire and looked at everyone in the tower that had been staring at him since he got his Grimoire. He then declared that he will become the Wizard king.
Everyone in the tower cheered for him, saying that he was a ray of hope for the region. While others, more so the nobles, were shocked and also appalled that a 4-leaf clover Grimoire chose Yuno and that he declared that he will become the Wizard King even though he is a peasant.
Asta, who was watching Yuno being praised by the others, looked at Yuno and called out to him. Yuno turned around to look at him when he addressed him.
Asta - "Just you wait Yuno, I'll catch up to you. AFTER ALL I'M YOUR RIVAL!" he declared to Yuno with much determination.
Everyone around them that heard what Asta said, began to laugh again, saying that it was a lot of talk for someone who never received their Grimoire.
Yuno just looked at Asta after his declaration and started walking towards him.
Yuno - "There's no way." he said to Asta, walking past him without looking at him. Leaving Asta shocked as he looked at the ground.
Someone with a hood on them made their way out of the Grimoire Tower with an Evil smile on their face and manic looking eyes left the area.
Before Yuno, Asta, and the others were gonna leave the tower something unexpected happened. The entire Grimoire started shaking violently as a tremendous amount of magic started weighing everyone down. The ones who were not strong enough immediately passed out onto the floor, while the others like Yuno, Asta, Sister Lily, Father Orsi and a handful of others in the tower started to sweat profusely.
The group who were able to maintain consciousness from the magic pressure on top of them then heard a loud roar again shaking the tower even more than it was already even with some chunks breaking off and falling to the ground. They all turned to the source and they were all shocked by what they saw.
There was a bright midnight purple light shining around an individual. To the ones that knew, they all had wide eyes when they saw Izir next to the Grimoire that was a midnight purple with what looked to be black shooting stars and comets on the cover but what shocked them more was the face of a dragon with a 4-leaf clover surrounding the face.
To say most were shocked to see another 4-leaf clover grimoire was not a surprise, but seeing the face of a dragon which is thought of to be a fairy tale creature only in legends on the cover was a major surprise(Dragons do not exist in this world Izir is the only dragon in this story).
The ones from the church who grew up with Izir were shocked about how much his power grew once he received his Grimoire. They knew Izir always had a tremendous amount of magic power, even before he gained his Grimoire he already was plenty strong. So to see his already tremendous amount of mana explode to monstrous levels was really shocking for them.
What really stunned them though was his face. The beautiful amethyst looking eyes were still there, but now his pupil's turned into slits looking like dragons. He was baring his teeth in which all turned sharp. On parts of his face and arms sprouted purple scales. Izir truly looked like a humanoid-dragon at the moment. If someone was looking more closely at his hair they would have seen what looked like a pair of horns coming out of his, but before that had happened the power he was emitting started to disappear and Izir's transformation started to revert back to before with only his teeth staying the same.
Once the magic power died down, Izir looked around and saw everyone looking at him with shocked faces with some having fear in their eyes. He looked at his family and just smiled with his new fangs showing and just threw a peace sign at them. His family seeing that he was still outgoing goofball that they knew relieved their worries once he showed his smile and the peace sign there way.
Yuno had a new found resolve to get stronger for his dream of becoming the Wizard King once he saw and felt his older brother's magic power. He does not consider Izir a rival due to Izir always saying that he doesn't want to become the Wizard King because it seems like a lot of responsibility and busy work. Either way Yuno only saw one person as his rival. He then left the Grimoire Tower with a slight smirk on his face.
Once everyone was out of the Tower we see Asta hanging off a tree branch with one leg. He was looking off into the distance with a dazed look on his face. He was thinking of Yuno even remembered the promise they made as kids
Asta - "LIKE HELL I'M GONNA GIVE UP!" he yelled with new found conviction, yelling out that even if it takes him one or two more years to get his Grimoire, he will catch up to Yuno.
Asta looks out then he seems to see Yuno standing in front of the Tower doors.
Yuno was just standing in front of the giant doors to the Grimoire Tower with a blank look on his face. That was until he heard a sinister voice talking behind him.
? - "Would you look at that the man of the day shouldn't be lingering around all alone." He then casted his spell [Creation Magic: Magic-Binding Iron Chain].
Yuno began to turn around when he heard the spell being cast and then saw iron chains being wrapped all around his body holding him down tight. His Grimoire was then snatched by the sinister individual.
For some reason the person explained his spell to Yuno, telling him how it restricts the magic and movement of those captured by it. (Villains always explain shit for some reason haha."
Yuno then asks him who he is exactly?
The person then chuckles, telling Yuno how he was a magic knight called Revchi of chain magic and that he was pretty famous (I doubt that) and now he is just a wretched thief
Revchi - "Only the owner can use their Grimoire but it does not mean that an underworld collector would not pay insane amounts of money for a 4-leaf clover Grimoire. You may have been chosen by a 4-leaf Clover Grimoire but you are still just a hatchling who has yet to spread his wings and I am the one who is gonna make sure your story ends before it can begin." he explains to Yuno what he plans to do with his Grimoire.
They then both heard screaming and turned to see something rolling down the hill and hit the stone wall, revealing the person who was Asta with a bloody nose and bruised face after hitting the wall.
Unbeknown to all three people though there was another watching from afar. It was Izir looking down from a tree a little bit away from the commotion. As much as he wanted to intervene and save his little brother he decided it would be better to watch and see what happens and if the situation turns dire then he will intervene.
Izir kept watching and after a while he saw Asta getting Injured by Renchi's chain magic and hit against a wall with Revchi's food on Asta's shoulder.
With his great hearing he hears Rechi tell Asta how his chains can tell him the magic powers of those it touches and how Asta has zero magic powers within him and that was just how he was born that way and that he was a loser.
Izir clenched his teeth hearing how Asta has no magic in him and then seeing Asta's face contort into a look of hopelessness, he clenched both his teeth and fists with his eyes becoming slits again ready to tear Revchi apart.
But then He and Assta heard something that put a smile on his face, with his eyes turning back to normal.
Yuno - "Who are you calling a loser? Asta isn't a loser, he is my rival." he said with tons of conviction.
Izir then sees Asta getting back up with new found strength. Then before his eyes he saw a Grimoire pop out in front of Asta which looked black and dirtied as if it was under the earth for many years. But what caught his eye was how many leaves it had on the cover.
Izir knew that within a 3 leaf clover each leaf represents Faith, Hope and Love. If there is a 4th leaf it represents good luck. But a 5th leaf he was unsure what that represents since he has never seen a Grimoire with five clover leaves on them.
Unknown to Izir and many others in the world what dwells in the fifth leaf is the DEVIL.
Izir then sees Asta carrying around a huge sword running towards Revchi as he also starts to throw his magic at him.
But then something happens that makes Izir and Revchi's eyes widen. As Asta swung his sword at Revchi's chains, once they collided with one another. Asta's sword seemed to neutralize Revchi's magic.
Izir knew that Asta's sword did not seem to just neutralize Revchi's magic but erase it completely. So he started calling it Anti-Magic which he will tell Asta later. He then saw Asta smack Revchi right into his waist, making him fly off straight into a wall, knocking him out.
Izir, seeing the threat knocked out, finally decided to make his presence known.
Izir - "Nice job Asta in taking care of that magic knight turned thief, I knew you would get a Grimoire, I never doubted that you would not get one." he said praising his little brother, scaring them in the process as to where and when did he show up.
Asta - "IZIR! Where did you come from and have you been watching the entire time? Why didn't you help out earlier, you big handsome jerk!" yelled Asta at his older brother.
Yuno also wondered the same as Asta but kept that more to himself rather than saying it aloud.
Izir smacks Asta, sending to the ground to stop him from yelling at his face before starting to answer his questions.
Izir - "One, yes I was watching the entire time. Two, I came from a tree quite away from here. Three, If I had helped earlier you might have never got your Grimoire due to the situation and also if I did help you and Yuno would not learn from this and grow stronger. I will not always be there to save you and Yuno, only if I see you are about to be killed or incapacitated would I intervene."
Asta and Yuno understood what their big brother meant.
Yuno decided to finally speak and walked towards Asta.
Yuno - "Asta, you saved me again. One day I will repay you. Asta, do you remember our promise?"
Asta - "Me? I didn't think you remembered."
Asta and Yuno stared at one another with the sun setting behind them with the huge demon skull that is nearby Hage Village. Then they raised their arms and fist bumped both declaring.
Asta & Yuno - "Let's see who will become the Wizard King!"
Izir saw both of his little brothers' declarations to each other and smiled. He then walked up to the both of them and put his hands on both their heads and ruffled their hair.
Izir - "Alright you two let's go home. Everyone at the church is probably worried for you two. After that we got 6 months left to train until the Magic Knights Entrance Exams."
He then added with a mischievous smirk while looking back at them.
Izir - "Well you two got to train a lot harder, since you both are weaker than me." he said laughing while walking back to the Church.
Asta yelled back at him and started running after him, while Yuno smiled looking back at his older brother's back, filling him with determination to surpass him one day.
