Hey Arnold – Back at home (Chapter 07)

The night was restless for Arnold and Helga. Especially because both were seperated.
They have not been completly alone in their respective homes, but Arnolds Room is at the roof ans Helga cannot rely on her parents.
Arnold woke up at 3 AM, because his phone rang.
He watched the display and it was Helga.
He was shocked and pressed the answer-button.
„Arnold? Someone broke into our store!", Helga whispered.
Arnold: „Are you okay?"
Helga: „Yes! But my parents are down on the floor, unconscious!"
Arnold: „Are you able to leave the store?"
Helga: „No, i'm hiding in the closet! The intruder is still here, i can hear him!"
Arnold: „I'm getting there as fast as i can with reenforcement! Stay there and keep calm!"
„Okay, Arnold!", Helga said and hang up.
Arnold almost fell down the stairs, because his movement is still not good.
He woke up his parents and knocked on the doors of Ernie and Mr. Hyunh.
They first have been angry, because it's 3 AM, but then they understood and did not hesitate to come with him and his fahther to the beeper store.
Entering the store was not a problem, because it already was broken open.
Miles was holding a baseball bat.
Arnold had his crutches.
Ernie had a big hammer and Mr. Hyunh a big soup ladle.
They entered the store and heared noises out of the back rooms.
Arnold hobbled to the closet and put Helga to safety.
Then he called the police and an ambulance.
Suddenly both heard a big bang from inside. The intruder tossed a wardrobe at his escape.
He escaped through the backdoor.
Miles found a note on the desk: „This time you had luck, Helga! But next time i get you!"
Ernie: „That's a psychopath!"
The police was too late to catch the intruder!
Helgas parents were transported into the hospital. Both had seriousness head injuries.
Miles leaved a message for them, that Helga came with him.
But an the borderhouse, they all were shocked.
The kitchen and livingroom have been vandalized and Arnolds gransparents are missing.
They found a note: „If i cannot catch Helga, i catch your grandparents! If you want to see them again, you go the old factory! If i let them live is your choise! Come alone and i let them live! But if not, i kill them!"
Arnold teared up. Miles was also worried, because even Stella was missing, but on the note was not a word about her. Where is she?
They looked all over the place and found her hiding in the dumpster.
The other house residents did not notice anything, what made Ernie and Mr. Hyunh worried. How can they be so ignorant?
Arnold: „I have to go there, right now!"
Helga: „You are still injured!"
Arnold: „You read the note. I have to go, alone!"
Helga: „I cannot allow this scumbag to hurt you or your grandparents!"
Arnold: „But you're getting them in danger!"
Helga: „Not with a plan, where you are the bait and THEM we catch him!"
Stella: „Children, please calm down!"
Arnold: „HOW?"
Even Helga was appalled by Arnolds freak-out.
Miles: „Helga is right! We make a plan now and get this maniac.
Arnold sighed: „Yeah...sorry...i was too impulsive!"
So the troop left to the factory.
Except Arnold, all were hiding, because Wolfgang have to believe, he is coming alone.
Inside the factory the gransparents were yelling steadily at wolfgang. That's not a good idea, but they are both hotheaded. Wolfgang had have enough and taped their mouthes with duct-tape.
Arnold entered the factory, but in the great hall he could not see anyone, so Wolfgang must be in the back of the factory.
Arnold hobbled through the empty room, expecting a trap or ambush anytime.
But Wolfgang was not very clever, although he thinks he is.
Arnold was slow, but steadily traversed the hall.
He found a door and opened it.
He saw his grandparents and wanted to free them, but in this moment he feels a pain in his neck and fell down.
The other people outside wanted to wait no longer. The split into two units.
Miles and Helga entered the front and Ernie and Mr. Hyunh the backdoor.
Wolfgang has dragged Arnold into a second smaller room, so Ernie and Mr. Hyunh were able to rescue the grandparents.
Arnold was in a bad situation now. Wolfgang had hung him up head down.
Arnold woke up and saw Wolfgang with a bottle of acid in his hand.
Wolfgang: „NOW I MAKE YOU EVEN MORE UGLY!"
He approached Arnold slowly, but then Helga jumped into his neck. He let the bottle fall down, which rolled into a corner of the room.
He stood back up and started to choke Helga.
She could escape, because she rammed her knee into his stomach.
She snapped the bottle and threw it out the window.
She took a run and punched Wolfgang in his face. His nose broke and blood splattered.
But he was not defeated yet!
He put brass knuckles on his hand and attempted to punch her with it.
Most of the punches she was able to avoid, but then one of them hit her on her arm.
She reeled because of the pain and Wolfgang wanted to use his advantage to hit Arnold in his face.
But Helga was able to pull herself together and baseball slided into Wolfgangs legs. He was falling backwards and his neck was hitting the edge of a table.
Now he was lying still on the ground and Helga could free Arnold.
Arnold: „Oh my god, is he dead?"
Helga: „No, he's still breathing, if somewhat flat."
Arnold: „I call police and ambulance!"
The police took Wolfgang to the hospital. His neck was broken, but not completly. But it was close!
Helga: „Am i in trouble now?"
Arnold: „I hope not! It was self-defence, i think!"
Miles: „I think the same!"
After all this turmoil they all tried to get some sleep. Arnold and Helga had school and the residents have to repair the vandalism. But Arnold and Helga could not sleep well this night.
