"You still have a couple of years to decide, so you do have time to think about it. In the meantime, why don't you tell me about this quirk of yours?"

And so I did, telling her about the different tiers and what sort of perks I've claimed, as well as how they work.

"So you're telling me that you can just... get natural beauty enhancement? Every day? Life is truly unfair sometimes."

I smiled weakly as my mother muttered in jealousy.

"Well. At least I won't have to worry about your love life, though I may have to beat away the girls with a stick, lest they take you from me too early." Her mood took a hundred and eighty-degree turn as she smiled brightly at me.

"Oh, I knew my little boy was special, and since you can, you will claim those beauty perks when you get the opportunity, OK?" She said sweetly as a dreamy expression appeared on her face.

I'd already planned on taking this modelling thing by storm. But as I saw the greedy glint in her eyes, I knew that I no longer had a choice in the matter.

The next second, she sobered up, meeting my eyes seriously.

"You will only claim this sort of perk when you won't see anyone you know for a while. Maybe we'll have to go on vacation more often."

Back to serious matters, I suppose.

"So, how long will you wait until you claim another quirk?"

That was a good question. On one hand, my ultimate power was the only reason my mother survived, so another could be the reason that I prevented a similar disaster from having severe consequences in the future.

On the other hand, telekinesis is currently my most used, maybe even most useful, perk. It was the power that I displayed to the outside world as my quirk.

I also believe that it will be the foundation for my future capabilities. So far, I've often chosen powers based on how well they mesh with telekinesis. So unless I gained a perk that overshadowed it, this way of doing things probably wouldn't change.

Furthermore. Growth perks were incredibly useful, increasing my base stats, which would mean that my other powers came out all the better for it. Maybe I could also gain talents that can help me master my powers?

Settling on a course of action, I looked up to my mother.

"I think I'll get some growth-type perks along with some medium powers first."

She took a moment to recall our conversation before nodding at my plan. "It's a good start. Now, why don't you show me some tricks?"

Pick one out of two perks (2 months). Energy enough for Medium (grade 1), perk)

Ultimate pilot (level max) The thing you are piloting will become an extension of your body. Be it a car, an aeroplane, or power armour, you are able to use it like you have been your entire life.

Parallel processing (level 1) You can have multiple fully functional thought processes at the same time; the number of simultaneous thought streams depends on processing speed (1 for every 20 in processing).

I really love my power, but it really is frustrating to have to discard great perks.

Ultimate pilot sounded like an incredible skill to have.

There have been an admittedly small number of people through the years who have become heroes using power suits. Although most, if not all, of them had quirks that helped them build these suits, they were the closest ones to ever being "quirkless heroes.".

A lot of the power armours were inspired by the century-old Iron Man comics and movies, yet nobody had ever reached the same level as Tony Stark had. Even with the immense technological advancement over the last few decades, nobody has quite managed it. Part of the reason was probably the significant dislike for weapons since quirks first emerged, as well as the large amount of wealth required to even think about it.

The period after quirks emerged caused a lot of chaos over many years, and everything only settled down pretty recently, which may have contributed to the lack of progress in this field. As it had in many others.

Now, with my powers, I believe that I could actually achieve what others could not and build one of these things. And if I picked Ultimate Pilot, I would instantly be able to use it to its fullest potential.

On the other hand, "parallel processing" was a skill that would become more useful the more I grew.

This skill would instantly boost the number of things I could process at a time, which would help immensely in both combat situations and daily life.

But in the end, most of the time, my choices depended on which skill would allow the greatest benefits in the long run, and in this case, it was undoubtedly parallel processing.

Parallel processing would greatly enhance my ability to multitask, possibly allowing not only much greater ease in utilising multiple perks at a time but also putting more focus into something like learning.

But anyways… 'number 2'

Getting some, preferably a lot, of intelligence stats would be invaluable. I mean, I only received 10 from each in my first perk, so 20 was a lot. Come to think of it, I probably only received stats in multiple aspects because it was my first perk.

Intelligence-enhancing perks are apparently not as common as my first perk would have you believe. I had over the course of 5 months claimed 4 perks, 2 of which were medium grade 1, and the other two were lower grade 2 and 3, respectively. None of the perks touched upon the processing stat at all, though one of the medium ones had granted me agility enhancement.

The first perk I received was Feline Swiftness, which gave me two stats in agility for each level.

The second grade 2 perk I claimed was not a stat-boosting one but a new power; this one was named "Beacon." It allowed me to put markers of sorts on a location or an object, which allowed me to keep track of its location at all times. I could put one marker for every level, and as it was currently level 2, I instantly marked my mother and my sister. I also know which beacon is which; I don't know how, but I do.

The minor perks were the grade 2 perk "Language Talent" and the grade 3 perk "Temperature Resistance.".

You could guess what language talent did, but the temperature resistance made it so that I had a resistance to both the hot and cold; this resistance would become stronger when it levelled. The method to do this would be to subject myself to different temperatures.

Now that I'm thinking about it, during the winter months I stored some snow in my inventory, so I could probably throw myself into there to train my newest power.

I could probably do that without becoming sick because of my constitution, I think.

But enough about my newest perks. I underestimated how much parallel processing would benefit me. Both training my perks as well as learning in general have had a significant efficiency increase; I wouldn't say that it doubled, but it was certainly close. For example, when I read a book, I could now read two words in the same amount of time that I had read one before. I didn't know how many times this increase could happen while my vision only allowed me to focus on one spot. Maybe one of my future perks could clear up my entire vision in some way?

Anyhow, the large increase in learning speed allowed me to quickly read through the course books, and I was allowed to skip another grade, so my peers were now about 10 to 11 years old. Which did not make my friend's situation any better since they were now 2 to 3 years older than me.

Anyway, I've decided to get some more powers, maybe something in addition to telekinesis. Versatility was important, though it was regrettable that I wouldn't be able to gain more points for parallel processing in the meantime.

I'll probably just follow my normal schedule and claim it on my birthday; that's 4 months from now.

"Kaito! You are cooking today; come downstairs!"

*Sigh* It sounds like she's in a bad mood today.

'Mom has started taking advantage of my cooking talent ever since she found out about it. Now I cook almost every meal, though it's not that bad.' I won't complain too much since I get to use one of my skills more often.

"Yes, mom!" I raised my voice to be heard downstairs.

"Don't you yell at me!"

"Wha?" What?

'Happy birthday to me.'

Pick one out of two perks (4 months). Energy enough for Medium (grade 2), perk)

Tactile Acuikineis (level 1) You can manipulate the sharpness of the edge of anything you touch.

Enhanced strength (no level): You gain 17 strength.

'Huh?' This is new; I've never seen a direct enhancement to my "stats" before, but this would be incredibly useful. It's also the first perk without a level, though I guess you can sort of tell.

Okay, so the strength would be undoubtedly useful, but man, oh man, the first one is awesome.

'Number 1' And the world unfroze once again.

'Let's test it out!'

Picking myself off of bed, I rush over to my desk. "Let's try this."

Holding a pair of scissors between my fingers, I closed my eyes momentarily, focusing slightly, before an unfamiliar sensation rushed out of my fingers.

Opening them again, I brought the opened scissors up in front of my eyes as the metal blade slowly morphed into a thinner shape.

Soon enough, I was witness to a razor-sharp edge where it had been dulled by use before.

Picking up a paper from the desk, I swiped the newly enhanced scissors towards it. And after a beat of silence, the bottom of the page began falling to the ground. The blade had been sliced straight through the middle.

I pumped my fists in the air before rushing to my twin's bed.

"Wuzzat?" Kokomi said groggily as I shook her awake.

She looked up at the clock on the wall before glaring balefully at me. It was 6 pm… I'm an early riser.

I smiled sheepishly towards her.

*sigh* "Fine, what is it?"

Pulling half of the paper towards us, I gave her the now incredibly sharp object and made the paper float in front of her.

"Take a swipe at it."

She looked at me like I was stupid for a moment, but then complied a moment later.

Only to be astonished as it passed through the paper without resistance.

I released my hold on the paper, and as gravity took hold, two even smaller pieces drifted down slowly.

Disbelief was plastered all over her face as she looked back and forth between the paper and the scissors in her hand.

"How?"

"Magic." I received an annoyed look at that. "Fine, it was a new perk called Tactile Acuikinesis. It allows me to manipulate the sharpness of things that I touch."

She looked impressed by that, and although I had shown her most of my perks by now, I could still see her childish wonder when I showed her a new one.

A smile crept up on her face, one that I was familiar with by now. "Why don't we test it on some other stuff?"

Shrugging in response, she grabbed my hand, hauling me towards the door without acknowledging her state of wear, which was just a set of turquoise pyjama pants and a pink shirt.

She dragged me around the house for a while, making me sharpen several objects, and it acted just as the description said it would; I could sharpen any edge, just not the middle of an object. The edge didn't even have to be very sharp in the first place; it could be almost as blunt as an eraser.

Though it admittedly couldn't cut very well since it was very pliable, I concluded that the maximum cutting ability would depend on the material that I sharpened.

Later on, we were beckoned to the dining room for our very fancy birthday breakfast, some of which I had been forced to make yesterday. And we enjoyed it thoroughly.

After we finished, mom announced that we would be going to our local laser tag, which Kokomi had begged for. It wasn't my thing.

I wasn't entirely pleased with this development, and even less so considering what happened last year. But I went along with it nonetheless.

A few hours later, we emerged from the dark laser tag arena, and I grumbled irritably as my enthusiastic sister skipped by me.

Ever since I had revealed my perks to her, Kokomi had been less than happy to know that any time she won our spars, it had been because I held back my significant physical ability. She had started relishing anything and everything that she could beat me in, which turned out to be a lot since she was talented in everything that she did.

Which was annoying. Although I had no room to complain considering my lot in life,.

Anyways, back on point, she had utterly demolished me in this, and it was very annoying watching as she grinned smugly back at me.

"Kids! Get down here; we are leaving in thirty minutes!"

Rousing from my sleep, my groggy mind struggled to comprehend the words as I let out a tired groan of reluctance. 'I don't wanna'.

Then my memory kicked in, and I was out of bed like a rocket, abusing my telekinesis to bring me my clothes from my closet, my tiredness all but forgotten in my excitement.

Even as I cheated my way into my clothes, I yelled cheerfully at my twin, who looked just as tired as I felt just a moment ago, but even as her eyes cleared up, they had none of my enthusiasm.

"C'mon, Kokomi, we are finally going to go. Aren't you excited?"

She glared balefully at me, and as I glanced at the clock on the wall, I couldn't blame her.

Nevertheless, I grinned cheekily at her before rushing out of our room and into the bathroom.

A few minutes later, my wheelchair-bound mother was hustling all three of us out of the door, both of my siblings glaring angrily at me above their hastily made sandwiches even as they nibbled. Which was not entirely unwarranted, seeing as how I had begged mom to go.

After about forty minutes, we arrived at the airport, and after another hour and a half, I found myself looking down towards the world, which seemed really tiny from my window seat. And I could see everything almost perfectly in the clear weather.

"Attention passengers, If you look out of your windows, you will bear witness to I-island. The world's foremost research facility"

As my cheek pressed against the cool glass of the window, I couldn't help a giddy grin from splitting my face in two. Island was one of humanity's greatest achievements.

The island was, without a doubt, the largest man-made creation in history. With a diameter of almost 60 kilometres, it managed to fit in four cities, lakes, and a forest that ran around the entire island.

The surface of the island was propped up by large white walls that spanned the entire island, and at one of the edges of the island sat the only means of entry.

Soon after, we were touching down at I-Island Airport, which had a large runway on a protruding platform at one edge of the island.

A few minutes later, we were ushered through the recently connected jetbridge, and that was very intriguing. As we were escorted on conveyor belts through the tunnels, blue light ran across our bodies as we were subjected to the I-Island entry inspection protocol.

Suddenly, holographic screens, not too different from the ones produced by my quirk, appeared in front of us. Though the amount of information that was displayed was a little unsettling, all of said information was quickly read with the help of my very useful parallel processing and liberal usage of advanced perception.

They had information on my school life, my family, my home, and my quirk, though it thankfully only displayed telekinesis.

I settled down and listened absently to the female voice that permeated the corridor we were moving down as she gave us a barebones explanation about the island. The undoubtedly pre-recorded message soon winded down by informing us about the I Expo, which would take place in a few days.

As the message was cut off, a door opened in front of us, and we were allowed to walk on our own out into the terminal through gate J.

Soon after, we retrieved our suitcases, which had been delivered to a specified pickup area.

Walking through the doors of this gate, I truly stepped onto I-Island for the first time.

And the pictures I had seen online didn't do it justice. Even now, when everything was just in the pre-opening stages, things were happening everywhere.

But the thing that caught my attention the most, even among the very colourful buildings that were present all around, was a massive three-dimensional hologram of All Might, which emitted a message in his booming voice, his mouth moving accordingly.

"Welcome to the I-Expo!"

What was astonishing was that it didn't feel like he was speaking loudly for everyone to hear, like a concert. It felt more as if he were just a few metres in front of me. There were no speakers that I could see anywhere close to me.

My eyes moved on from him, but I was knocked out of my admiration as Kokomi shoved me lightly in the shoulder.

I grew an embarrassed blush as she gestured to my mother and brother, who had already gotten a ways down the large set of red stairs.

I was about to jog after them, but with a cough, my sister caught my attention and gestured to her suitcase.

Her smile grew smug as I relented to her silent demand, and I picked up both of our baggage with my telekinesis.

This action would not have been appreciated in Japan. But here on I-island, you were allowed to use your quirk a lot more freely due to the extensive security systems that would quickly resolve any conflict.

I blinked as I was once again knocked out of my thoughts, only to notice that my sister had rushed off down the stairs towards the others.

A smirk appeared on my face as I took a running leap from the top of the stairs. Only to slowly float downward while keeping my forward momentum.

Touching down at the bottom of the stairs, I looked up towards the stairs, where many incredulous but also a multitude of excited expressions stared down at me.

My mother sighed in exasperation as she shook her head and lamented my childish action once the rest of my family reached me.

"Welcome to I-Expo!" A feminine voice announced from behind me, and I turned around and was greeted with a blonde woman clad in the white uniform of the I-Expo representatives.

I gave her an abashed smile as she grinned amusedly at my stunt.

Pulling back slightly, my mother stepped forward to speak with the woman.

Shortly after, we received directions towards the closest transportation centre. These are the modern equivalents of train and bus stations, since I-island doesn't use the same sort of vehicles that other countries still use. The moving island has an expansive underground pod system that uses electromagnetic tracks to hurtle bubbles all around the island.

And as we sat in one, it was definitely one of the most awesome experiences of my life. A little dizzying too.

One moment we were at the expo, and the next we were in the island's central city.

Emerging out of the pod barely a minute after we got on it, the new grayscale metropolitan surroundings made for a sharp contrast to the colourful one of the expo.

We quickly found the hotel that mom had booked, and we checked in without any issues.

We spent some time unpacking, and when we were done, we prepared ourselves for some sightseeing in the city. The pre-opening of the expo was happening later tonight. Sadly, we didn't have tickets for the preview.

This wasn't a big loss, however, since there were plenty of ways to entertain oneself on the island. There were a multitude of incredible attractions, and let's not forget the large assortment of inventions that were on the market here.

Although the majority of the island's scientists were focused on support gear and tools aimed at helping heroes, these were a large percentage of the world's greatest scientists, so it was inevitable that a lot of inventions and side projects would be sold.

If you weren't interested in either of these, you could participate in one of the various quirk-friendly activities around. These activities were one of the largest tourist magnets since loads of people were drawn to the possibility of using their quirks freely

The air whistled above me, and I pushed my body to the right. A thud echoed beside me as something hit the ground with significant force.

Taking this chance, I reached out and yanked whatever had made the impact away from me, hearing a yelp before something less heavy crashed into the ground in front of me, followed by something larger.

Stomping down where the first thing impacted. A pained grunt escaped whoever was under me, and I spread my psychic grip over their body.

After hoisting them up into the air, I rotated them vertically before letting them hang in the air.

Frustrated growls sounded out as the air around my captive rippled.

After a few seconds of struggling, a sigh escaped from the air as colour began bleeding into the shape in my telekinetic grasp. It soon took the shape of a young girl.

She had a darker brown skin tone and a mess of black hair that was currently hanging downward like a mop, along with a green tail that flicked irritably behind her.

"I concede." The reluctance in her voice was significant.

"And we have a winner! Juma Issa from Tanzania has forfeited. Congratulations to Japan's Kaito Teruhashi, the winner of this year's annual junior tournament."

The crowd erupted in cheers, and I couldn't help but take pride in this victory. I could have won without much effort, but I didn't want to go overboard, even though the girl with the "Chameleon" quirk in front of me had been annoying as she snuck around the arena for several minutes.

This tactic had managed to get her into this final round, though it wasn't enough.

I had breezed through my rounds, though some of the opponents had interesting quirks.

Letting the girl down gently on her feet, we shook hands before I exited the cushioned floors of the ring.

"As the prize for first place, Kaito will receive a significant sum of money along with the capture yo-yo, a prototype capture weapon created by our very own David Shield."

One of the event organisers came up to me and handed me a translucent case along with an envelope containing my prize money.

Turning around, I walked confidently out through the exit before slumping in relief.

I'm not very fond of attention. Which was why I felt as if a significant burden had been lifted from my shoulders once the attention of the crowd disappeared once I was concealed from their gazes.

I closed my eyes for a moment, only to open them when I heard footsteps from around the corner.

As I looked up, a head of blonde hair turned the corner, and I was greeted by a pair of bright blue eyes that looked at me with enthusiasm.

"Hello!"

I stared at the girl, who looked to be about my age and wearing a pair of brown suspenders over a white blouse, for a few moments before responding cautiously. "Hi?"

She grinned brightly at me before taking a deep breath.

"I just wanted to congratulate you! You did great out there; you are really talented to be able to win the entire thing. You were even one of the youngest participants. I bet you could be a great hero with your quirk. Telekinesis, by the way? Oh, my name is Melissa Shield. It's nice to meet you. I already know your name, of course; they announced it. That yo-yo is one of my dad's latest inventions. The line can bear almost three metric tonnes of force, so it's able to help a lot in any situation as a hero. My dad allowed me to help him with his experiments with it. He hasn't let me observe any of his other projects, but he allowed me to help with this as a starting point. I want to be just like my dad. I want to be a scientist just like him and make support gear for heroes. Do you want to be a hero? I wanted to before I found out I was quirkless, but since I am, I'll just have to help by supporting the heroes. Maybe I could make support gear for you in the future? Hey, do you have any ideas for a hero suit? I've always wanted to make hero costumes. Could I make yours?"

I blinked in confusion as she finally stopped talking and was desperately gasping for air. 'What?'

"Melissa!" I heard another set of steps from the same direction Melissa had come from a few moments ago. A few seconds later, a tall, brown-haired man stepped around the corner. The man turned to face us, and his blue eyes looked us over for a few moments before landing on Melissa.

"You shouldn't run off like that, Melissa." He spoke in English.

Melissa pouted, and I just realised how close she had gotten in her tirade.

"But papa! I wanted to meet Kaito; he was amazing, and with a quirk like his, he could be an awesome pro-hero one day."

Doctor Shield looked closely at his daughter; he seemed to be searching for something. And he seemed to have found that something, because his expression softened from the stoic one that had been on his face prior.

*Sigh* "I suppose it's fine, but don't do that again, Melissa."

Turning to me, he stretched out a hand. "David Shield. I made the support item you received." He said and gestured to the box that was floating by my side.

I took his hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you, sir. I'm Teruhashi Kaito."

He smiled at me. Before going into a brief explanation of the capture tool's capabilities,.

"This prototype is controlled by the will of the user, and my daughter suggested that we give it to you since you have experience controlling things with your mind. You were probably wondering why you received it since the normal rewards are just price money." I had been wondering that, actually, the prize money was quite substantial for this event since it was only held once a year during the I-Expo. There was also the adult version for 16 and up, which took place tomorrow.

"I would like to ask if you could use it for a while and then send over some of your experiences with it later on. You get to keep it, of course."

I was a little dazed. It wasn't every day one was allowed to test new support gear, especially not one made by what was essentially All Might's supporter, along with his once-sidekick some decades ago.

"I would be honoured, sir." I responded in Japanese since he had switched from English once he stopped talking to Melissa.

"That's good. Could you direct me to your guardian, young man? I would like to have a talk with them."

I didn't have time to respond as a voice came from another direction.

"That would be me, Dr. Shield." My mother said as she came rolling up to us.

He turned to face her. "Mrs. Teruhashi, I presume?"

"I'm his mother, yes. What do you want from my son?

"It is nothing serious; I just want his help with some testing. I could give you the rundown over coffee." He said this, smiling at her.

Mom looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding.

He turned our way briefly, addressing me and Melissa.

"Sweetie, why don't you show our young friend around the expo for a bit?"

He turned to my mother. "You don't mind?"

She shook her head in the negative. I had a phone, so it was fine, and I could take care of myself.

"Just call me when you are done." She told me, and I could see relief in her expression.

'... She is relieved that she doesn't have to go with me through the exhibition.' She was never as interested in technology as I had been for the past few years.

"Yes Papa!" The blonde beside me said as she grabbed my hand and started to drag me.

Our parents chuckled as she hauled me behind her, and we disappeared around the corner.

The next few hours were a whirlwind. Melissa dragged me around the expo, and since it was the day after the preview, there were a lot of people everywhere.

Soon enough, she took us into the pavilion, where she showed off the different inventions, going into further detail on her father's projects.

Once she figured out that I understood and was interested in most of what she was saying, she seemed to reach a new level of enthusiasm. The bubbly girl talked faster and faster until I was forced to use parallel processing to understand her.

Eventually, she caught me up in her flow, and time seemed to lose meaning.

We talked about a bunch of things, from technology to heroes to our home lives. She admittedly did most of the talking, though I did find myself talking a lot more than I usually do.

We'd just reached one of the last exhibits when I felt a buzzing in my pocket.

I brought out my smartphone and was startled as I looked at the time. We had been here for 4 hours, and mom was calling.

After answering, I was relieved that she wasn't angry. We were instructed to make our way towards a cafe, which Melissa reassured me that she knew.

15 minutes later, we arrived at the cafe. Melissa had put her contact information into my phone along the way and had basically stolen mine for herself.

We parted ways once we reached the cafe, yet as mom and I were on our way to pick up my siblings, I received a message from my newest contact.

'Hey, it's Melissa; today was fun! The expo is open for two days from now, so would you like to hang out tomorrow again?'

This was strange. Having a friend was strange. But I replied with an affirmation anyway.

But man, that smile that my mother was giving me was embarrassing.

The next few days went by in a blur, and I spent almost every moment with my new friend.

I had never had this much fun with anyone before. And everything just seemed to come naturally.

It helped that I didn't need to take much initiative to start conversations since Melissa seemed very eager to do so herself. I was glad.

Soon enough, the days had passed, and we were making our way to the airport.

Melissa waved to us as we went through the gate. This would be the last time I saw her for a while. Since she couldn't leave the island,.

We had decided to keep in contact over the internet. Though it hadn't really been my decision, I wasn't complaining.

We checked in and were on the plane and up in the sky after about an hour.

"Good luck tomorrow! You will have to tell me how it went afterwards!"

an older Melissa said enthusiastically as she grinned at me through the screen.

It was happening tomorrow.

I had pondered this for a couple of years now, but it was probably somewhere around the time when I met Melissa that I decided what I wanted to do.

I will take the entrance exam for UA's support course tomorrow.

I could do this even if I was younger than the usual age, because unlike the hero course, there was no set age restriction for entering the support one.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that going into the hero course is restricted to those over a certain age. But it would probably surprise people if a twelve-year-old managed to enter one of the most prestigious support courses in the country, especially without a quirk specifically geared towards technology.

I probably wouldn't have been able to if I hadn't been studying and hanging out with Melissa Shield for years. Even with my parallel processing and my other advantages,.

"I will. See you tomorrow, Melissa."

I smiled at the camera before hanging up the call.

A lot would be happening tomorrow, but right now.

Pick one out of two perks (2 years 4 months. Energy enough for Ultimate (grade 1), perk)

Author's note

Hey, long time no see.

I am sorry for not updating this for a few months, I've just really struggled with this chapter.

Thank you to those of you who reviewed.

Now, Kaito is getting another ultimate perk. This one, I've decided, is going to be a power system. I want opinions on what it should be. Chakra, Ki, some sort of magic, nen, the force, Haki, Chi(avatar) etc.

That was all I really had to say, Please review.

I do not own MHA.
