Chapter 7: The Mysterious Digimon, Calumon
It was another day of school for the tamers. Before the school day started, the students and the school staff were near the soccer field. On the soccer field, there was chalk drawn all over the place on the field. Rumors were spreading like wildfire of what could have done it. Rick and Takato were in class. Ms. Asaji calls out to the class to settle down. "Alright everyone, give me your attention. For a change. That means you too Kazu." Ms. Asaji calls out. "Aww.." Kazu said. "I'm sure none of you vandalized the soccer field last night. Though I wouldn't put it past some of you, but if any of you found out anything let me know. Now, pick up your pencils. It's time for a test." Ms. Asaji said while finishing her announcement. Most of the students were not too happy about the test, especially Kazu. "Its no fair!" Kazu said whiningly. "If life were fair, I would be in Maui. Maybe this will teach you to pay attention in class." Ms. Asaji said. She's not wrong there Kazu. Rick thought.
After the test, lunch time finally came. Some of the kids were still discussing rumors of what could have vandalized the soccer field last night. They mentioned many thing until they mentioned "Ghost Dinosaur" as one those things. Then one asked how did the ghost dinosaur ate all of the food in the cafeteria, which surprised Takato by making milk come out his nose. Rick gave him a napkin to wipe it off. It was the end of the day, and the students were cleaning up the classroom. Takato, Jeri and Rick were discussing the crazy rumors the students were saying. "Then they started saying it was caused by demons conjured up by last weeks spudballs." Takato said laughing "Pretty crazy, right Jeri?" Rick asked until he saw a worried look on her face. "What's wrong? Don't tell me you at the spudballs?!" Takato asked. "I saw what did it." Jeri said which gave Takato and Rick a worried look.
"What do you mean you.. saw it?" Takato asked Jeri. "It all started this morning. I wasn't feeling good so I went to the nurse's office. There I was, tuck in tight. Nothing but the smell of iodine and camphor oil to keep me company. It was so quiet, until suddenly I heard a noise. I quietly got out of bed and fearlessly walked over to the cabinet to see what was there. I moved in, like a lion stalking its prey. Step by step. Inch by inch. Suddenly it jumped right by me really fast away from me. I thought it was cat at first, but then I saw foot prints on the ceiling. I was luckily to get out of there in one piece." Jeri said with a scared face. "Man, your brave Jeri." Takato said. "Yea. No kidding." Rick added.
After the cleaning was done, Rick and Takato meet up with Henry and Lissa outside the school. "Nobody has any idea who drew the chalk lines on the soccer field." Takato said. Henry was thinking a little. "Probably a prank." He said. "Maybe, but I don't any those other kids would do that or be that sneaky." Rick said. "I agree. Everyone was talking about what they thought did it. Even my group of friends were spouting crazy things." Lissa. "You think someone would know who did it, but no one does.." Takato said. "Well, who did it must be pretty clever." Henry said.
It was the weekend. Takato, Lissa and Rick with their Digimon partners were heading to the school. "So, how come its okay to come here today?" Guilmon asked. "Well it's the weekend." Takato asked. "Weekend?" Guilmon asked. "They are the days of when we have off from school. So no one will be there." Lissa explained. "Yep, so we won't have to worry about you guys getting caught." Rick added. "That's a relief. I was getting tired of pretending to be a doll a lot." Palmon said. "Can't agree enough with that Palmon." Dracomon said. As the group got to entrance, they were two staff members there, but on the soccer field it was drawn on again. "This is worse than the last time. Do you know how much our chalk budget is gonna be this year? And we're hosting that big hop-scotch tournament. I have an idea, why don't we use some scrunched-up breadcrumbs?" The teacher asked. "Breadcrumbs, wha-? Have you been reading that fairytale book again?" The principal asked. "No sir, I just like the pictures." The teacher said. This weirded out the group a bit until they snuck around and up to the roof.
Takato was feeding the rabbits, while Rick and Lissa were sweeping a little. Guilmon was sniffing the bunny until he smelled something else. "What's wrong, Guilmon?" Takato asked. "I smell.. Digimon!" Guilmon said as he runs into the direction of the scent. "What? Careful it might be dangerous." Takato said as he grabs a broomstick for defense. Rick and Lissa heard them too. "Lets surround it." Rick suggested "I agree." Lissa said. They all were sneaking on the Digimon hiding behind the cylinder stone. As they got closer, they were about to strike but then say it was a cute little Digimon. "Oh, its just cute little guy." Takato said, but Lissa was gushing a little. "Aww, its so cute!" "Finally, a harmless one for once." Rick said. The white Digimon was waking up and saw the group. "Oh, hello, hello, hello, hellooo!" the white Digimon said very cutely. "Hey there." Takako said while trying to pick up the cute Digimon but it jumps back playfully. "Whats wrong? Don't be afraid. We're you friends." Takato while attempting to pick him up again, but the white Digimon jumps back again playfully. "The white Digimon was curling up cutely smiling and giggling. "Play!" the Digimon said. "Let me try this time little brother." Lissa said as she ties to pick up the white Digimon and the same thing happens to her. "Playfully little guy ain't he?" Rick said "How about this? How about we play later, okay?" Takato asked. The white Digimon shake his head. "No no no no no no no!" it said. Why do we always get the difficult Digimon..? Takato thought. "I cant, it soo cute!" Lissa said gushing.
The group managed to get the white Digimon back to Guilmon's hideout. Henry also met the group there. Also they managed to find out it name. Guilmon was sniffing Calumon which was tickling him. "So you're Cal-umon?" Guilmon asked. "Right!" Calumon said while laughing. "I wonder where he came from? We didn't se a digital field when we found him." Takato said. "I'm surprised he's out there on his own." Henry said. "He's out there all right." Terriermon said as the little Calumon was still laughing from Guilmon unintentionally tickling him. "How did you get your nose so ticklely?" Calumon said while laughing. "Maybe we should find a tamer for the little guy. So he wouldn't be alone." Henry suggested. "That's not a bad idea, but who?" Takato said. "Yea, who would be a good pick for him?" Rick wondered. "If I was able to have two partners, I take him in a heartbeat." Lissa said.
The group came up with a few choices. Takato came up with the first one, which was Kazu. Though he wasn't the best fit for Calumon, based on he plays the card game. The second choice was by Terreirmon, who suggested Henry's little sister Suzie. It seemed good at first, but they realized that Suzie would go overboard using Calumon as a dress-up doll. That also meant Emily was not a good choice either since it would be a similar result. Then the last person was Jeri, which was suggested by Takato, but he was afraid that she would freak out seeing Calumon.
Back at the hideout, Guilmon, Dracomon , Palmon and Calumon were waiting for the tamers to come back. "But playing is like breathing. I'll pass out if I don't play soon." Calumon said. "We can't leave." Guilmon said. "Sorry Calumon, it's the number one rule." Dracomon said. "We can't be seen by other humans." Palmon added. "Pretty please? We can play tag. Race each other. I'll pull out a board and play chess." Calumon said. "I'm bored too, but Takato will be upset if we're not here when he comes back." Guilmon said. "But he'll be even more mad if your not happy right?" Calumon asked. "Well.." Guilmon said. "Don't give into the cute trap Guilmon." Dracomon tried to plead. Guilmon wanted to say no to Calumon, but cant. "Come on Guilmon say no." Palmon tried to plead, but it ended up in failure. "Maybe we should play." Guilmon said as Dracomon and Palmon fall over comically. "I guess not everyone can defeat cutness." Dracomon said. "Guess not. Lets just keep on them so they don't cause too much trouble." Palmon said. "Agreed." Dracomon said.
Takako, Lissa, Rick and Henry were walking back to Guilmon's hideout unable to find a tamer suitable for Calumon. "I can't believe we couldn't find a tamer for Calumon and it took all day." Henry said. "Yea, we should get back before Guilmon eats up the whole park." Takato said. "That's great. Maybe Guilmon will eat Calumon and solve all our problems." Terriermon said joking. "That's a mean joke Terriermon." Lissa said. "At least he was joking." Rick said. In the soccer field, Guilmon, Calumon, Dracomon, and Palmon were in front of a sports shed. "Nope, absolutely not. We are not going in that shed. Plus its locked tight for a good reason." Palmon said. "Yea, lets just go back to the park." Dracomon said. "But the fun things are in here. We just need a way inside." Calumon said. "You'll end up causing trouble." Palmon said. As the three were talking Guilmon dug a path underground to the shed. "I made tunnel underneath the door." Guilmon said he went back in the tunnel he made with Calumon following shouting. "Yay!" "Guilmon… why?" Palmon asked. "Guess it still hard to explain reason to him…" Dracomon said.
The two Digimon managed to get the field chalk and started drawing all over the field. "This is gonna be such a mess…" Palmon said as she facepalms. "Afraid so. The good part is, no camera's around the school to see us." Dracomon said. When Guilmon and Calumon finished their drawing something unexpected happened. A light shot out the ground. "What is that light shooting out…?" Dracomon asked. "Definitely something not good I'll say." Palmon answers. Back at the Hideout, the tamers realized that their Digimon are not there. "Aw man. They're gone!" Takato says as he runs out of the gate. "And I told them like twenty times not to leave." He added. "Doesn't matter how many time you tell them when they are not listening." Terriermon said. "Dracomon and Palmon wouldn't leave here unless they had a good reason to." Rick said. "Like keep an eye on Guilmon and Calumon." Lissa replied. "I'm sure everything will be fine." Henry said. "Yea, you maybe right." Takato said until he spotted the digital field from a distance. "Uhh, that doesn't look fine to me! Does that look fine to you?!" Takato asked with worry. "It's back at the school, lets get on over there." Rick said. The tamers proceed to the school to where the digital field is.
Back at the soccer field, a black void was forming on the ground. "Is that the icky void that makes you walk like Penguinmon?" Guilmon asked. "I don't know, but good idea." Calumon said. "I don't that's safe you two, get back from it!" Palmon said. Guilmon was approaching it. "It feels like something is coming." Guilmon said. As he said that, a small imp-like Digimon jumps out of that void laughing. Guilmon was close to it which made the Digimon jump back. "Get back you hideous creature. Beware my wrath!" the imp-like Digimon said. "Look who's calling who hideous." Palmon said. "Don't be scared. Don't worry I wouldn't hurt a tiny thing like you." Guilmon said. "I'm not tiny! I'm a dangerous Digimon whose power should be trampling you with fear!" the Digimon said. "And you're tiny." Guilmon said. Dracomon low key snickered. "I'm just overdue for a growth spurt okay?!" the imp-like Digimon said as he was starting his attack. "Watch out you two!" Palmon warned. "Nightmare Shocker!" The Digimon launched his attack at them. It missed, but destroy the field chalk dispenser. "Not so tiny now huh? Nightmare Shocker!" the Digimon attacked but this time he was countered. "Baby Breath!" Dracomon used his attack to cancel out his attack. "Not bad for an amateur." The imp-like Digimon said. "That was just a warmup." Dracomon said.
The tamers managed to make it to the school. "It's a digital field. Another Digimon is coming through." Henry said. "Lets hurry and get in there." Lissa said. "Right." Takato and Rick said in unison. Back in the field, Calumon was being chased. "Why are chasing after me? Guilmon was the one who insulted you." Calumon said. "Hey!" Guilmon shouted. "I don't care. Demon Darts!" the imp-like digmon said attacking Calumon. "Hold on Calumon! "Poison Ivy!" Palmon said grabbing Calumon to safety. "Thank you so much." Calumon said to Palmon. "Pyro Sphere!" Guilmon counter attacked the Digimon who attacked Calumon. As the fight was happen the tamers had arrived in time. "Guilmon!" Takato said. "Who is that?" Terrierimon asked as Henry analyzed it. "Vilemon, champion level. Nasty little thing." Takato took out a modify card, "This should even the playing field. Digimodify! Hyper Wings activate!" Takato said which gave Guilmon the ability to fly. "Go get 'em" Takato added. "Right!" Guilmon said as he took flight. This surprised Vilemon. "Pyro Sphere!"Guilmon fired his attack at Vilemon knocking him to the ground. "Not so tough now that Guilmon can fly too huh?" Takato said. "Aww, nuts!" Vilemon shouted. "Terriermon, its your turn!" Henry said as he looked at Terriermon. "I'm on it!" Terriermon said as he charges in to fight. Henry take out a modify card, "Digimodify! Speed Activate!" Henry said as he swipes the card. Terriermon became fast and headbutts Vilemon as he uses his attack which makes him miss the group. Even after that hit, Vilemon would not go down.
Rick and Lissa were about to do something, but a certain someone show up. "Yea, right. You're too tiny to bother with, but a fight's a fight. Renamon." Rika commands her as Renamon gets ready to fight. "Oh great, the ice queen has arrived again. She better not touch Calumon after Vilemon." Lissa said annoyed and with a little anger. "I hate beat up on a girl, but if you insist." Vilemon says as he goes in for the attack. Rika takes a modify card and slashes it. "Digimodify! Clone Activate!" "Nightmare Shocker!" Vilemon attack Reanmon and thinks he got her. "The only thing you got is the serius case of the uglies. Look behind you." Rika says as she points behind him. Vilemon looks behind and sees Renamon about to attack. "Diamond Storm!" Renamon unleashed her attack which hits Vilemon. It made him scream which evidently deleted him. Renamon ends absorbing his data. This surprised Takato, Henry and their Digimon most. Rick and Lissa were mostly annoyed that Rika is still making Renamon absorb data of defeated Digimon.
"Don't bother with any thanks. I did it for the data and that's all." Rika said to the group. "Data?" Takato asked which confused Rika. "Digimon are living creatures and you kill them." Takato said. "He's right they are alive." Henry said. Rika thought for a sec. "No, Digimon are nothing more but data. Renamon." Rika and Renamon were about to walk away until Calumon hugged her leg. "Huh, what is that thing?" Rika asked. Calumon giggled. "Hi, wanna play?" Rika was a little confused. "Don't you dare touch him Ice Queen!" Lissa shouted. Rika looked at Calumon one last time before walking off. "Come on Renamon. Why would I want waste time with these goggle heads." "Yea, well good riddance!" Takato shouted. "What's her deal?" Takato added. "We'll probably never know." Rick replied. "The less I see of her, the better." Lissa said. "Finally a little fun!" Calumon said as he hops off. "Wait its dangerous by yourself." Takato says to Calumon. "Its dangerous around you too and there must be more people more fun than you. Good-Bye Guilmon! Bye Dracomon and Palmon!" Calumon replied as he hopped away. "I hope he'll be okay?" Takato asked. "He's survived this long by himself. I think he'll be okay." Rick said. "He's a strange little guy. I've never seen anything like him. I don't think he wants a tamer." Henry said. "How long do you think the Tamer would survive?" Terriermon asked. Takato was still worried about him. "You're gonna be okay?" Henry asked. "Yea, I'll be okay." Takato replied.
It was the next school day, everyone saw the damage on the soccer field. "First its chalk, now its chalk and holes. Soon we'll have to pave this field over with concrete." The principal said. "We already have a parking lot sir." A teacher said. "You can be replaced you know?" the principal said. The rumors started spreading amongst the students again. One of the students said, "It was alien ghosts." While another said "It was alien ghosts and gnomes that travel through time." The tamers were overhearing all these crazy theories. "Okay, that last one sounded outrageous." Rick commented. Takato whispered, "They wouldn't even believe us if we told them the truth." "We know." Rick, Lissa and Henry whisper in unison and then start laughing a bit.
