Precure Ranger! 4 - or 'How I became the protagonist, the side character and recurring mentor to the Precureverse (It never ends!)' (PowerRanger!OC-MC into the Precureverse)
School had gone full swing, and it goes without a saying that many things have happened as the new teachers took over for the year.
One of those unusual developments that caught all of us off-guard was-
"I still can't believe Yoshimi-sensei assigned you as one of the trip's guides, Nagisa."
The tomboy scowled at my words. "W-Well, it wasn't like I planned it! I was just... looking away for a moment."
"More like ogling at some of the new teachers," Honoka pointed out smugly much to the short-haired girl's chagrin. "It's also annoying that you're like that when you already have a crush on someone."
"L-Looking and not touching. It's not like I am cheating on someone about it," Nagisa whined tiredly. "Also, how come you two are nagging at me? Aren't we friends?"
"Nagi, that's what friends do. Tease each other once in a while," I pointed out flatly, then turning to Honoka. "Plus, it helps Honoka handling the upcoming teasing she's getting since we're visiting her home."
Right in that moment we were walking to Honoka's house. She had offered us to visit it so we could discuss privately over the whole Precure situation and deal with the more advanced details of what our goal was. As I said this, however, the 'pretty lady' had a frown adorning her face.
"Hm, you plan to 'tease' me too, Mark-kun?"
I offered a giddy smile, and Nagisa chuckled.
"You're right! I wonder what kind of house you got, Honoka-chan!"
Turns out that Honoka's parents were quite loaded from the residence we found at our arrival.
"It's so huge!" Nagisa exclaimed in awe. "Honoka-chan, that's a huge place."
"I-It is at times," She mumbled, then glanced at me. "What do you think?"
"It's a nice-looking house. But... didn't you say that your parents were working abroad? Do you live there alone?" I pointed out, and the girl appeared surprised.
"Not really alone- but it's just me, Chuutaro and grandmother."
I was about to ask who this 'Chuutaro' was, but as we got through the gates and started to walk towards the main door, I saw a pretty-looking blond-furred dog rushing at us. I felt like I was going through an epiphany and the dog noticed new faces as he decided to bolt first after me.
Many would have been frightened by the sight but... I was doing the opposite. Much to the surprise and amusement of both girls, I found myself giving ear-scratches to the pretty doggo, and Chuutaro was more than happy to lick at my hands and try to lick at my face too.
After that giggle-worthy interaction, Honoka took us to the house and we got to met her grandmother. Yukishiro Sanae was a venerable elder, kind and wise, yet I was oddly assaulted by a deep sense of awkwardness as she addressed me as one of her granddaughter's friends.
"You would be the first boy that befriends Honoka-chan," She pointed out, and her tone was sweet in a way that left me a bit terrified.
"J-Just friends."
She smiled. "I am glad to hear that."
It took ten minutes for us to finally be left alone in Honoka's room and-
"I am so sorry. Grandmother is usually nice with others, so I don't know what got to her," Honoka apologized profusely which, truth be told, felt nice and somewhat cute. "I am very sorry."
"I-It's alright. I understand that I am a boy staying at her granddaughter's room and... well, it's a bit awkward."
Nagisa chuckled, and I frowned.
"Oh, don't give me that. That definitely counts as teasing Honoka-chan though."
Honoka pouted, but pulled away from saying anything about it. Rather, she allowed her phone out. And it slowly morphed into a tiny mascot. The same happened with Nagisa's and... these two started to spin around.
"Mepple-mipo!"
"Mipple-mepo!"
"What about you, Mark?" Nagisa asked and... I just retrieved my morpher, and it shifted back to its original form. A Prism Stone. "Wait, you don't have a companion?"
"I don't..." I muttered, then glanced at the two girls. "Should I?"
"It's kind of odd-mepo," The newly-introduced Mepple remarked. "After all, how did you know how to create a morpher?"
"That-" I froze up for a moment, having forgotten about that voice from back then. "Actually, someone told me I could do it. It was a voice but... I don't know who it was."
"Do you remember anything about the voice-mipo?"
I was about to say no... yet I realized now it had also the same habit of ending that sentence with a strange word.
"The voice would end it's sentences with '-popo'."
Both mascots stood up in shock. "That's Prince Pollun-mepo! That means he is still alive."
Mepple nodded in agreement to her buddy, and I found myself even more confused.
"Prince... Pollum?"
"That's actually a good point to start talking about what are the Pretty Cures, Mepple and Mipple," Honoka pointed out, getting the main topic of this conversation started at once.
The Pretty Cures, within what the two mascots were familiar with, were paladins of the light that have existed for a long time. No one knew when the legend came to be, but the last Pretty Cures around have been gone for so long that no one had a clue on who they were.
All that was known was that Honoka and Nagisa were Cure White and Cure Black respectively. And I was tagging along through the power of the Prism Stones. And those fancy jewels were the reason why the Pretty Cures were once more needed:
Some evil guy known as the 'Evil King' had encroached on the Garden of Light, and Mipple, the Princess of Hope, has been sent together with her knight Mepple to the Garden of Rainbows to find the Pretty Cure. Turns out that the Garden of Rainbows is Earth, and that the Prism Stones were split away in an effort to deprive the Garden of Light the chance to win against the forces of evil.
...
"That's a lot," I summarized, and the girls nodded at my words in agreement. "So, all we have to do is find the other Stones and then defeat the big baddy?"
"That's about it-mipo," Mipple confirmed. "Still, it's going to be difficult with the Evil King and his Dotsuku Zone-mipo."
"But we will beat him with ease!" Nagisa excitedly exclaimed and-
"I brought some cookies~." Honoka's grandmother called from the other side of the door, knocking three times. "I hope you are not doing anything untoward my grandchild, boy-"
"G-Grandmother!"
Thankfully we got into proper homework and we put that odd interaction behind us. Still, I was happy that we made some progress and... I feel like I was quite close with Nagisa and Honoka after this first study session together.
Honoka was pouting.
Yukishiro Sanae merely sipped from her well-tailored tea, giving her granddaughter a smile.
"Something on your mind, Honoka?"
"Yes, actually. Grandmother... why did you behave like that with Mark?"
The old woman sighed. "Honoka, it's only fair that I am concerned with the idea you're around a boy in your room. Even if you had your other friend there-"
"I want to date him," Honoka announced nervously, and that drew a surprised look from the older woman. "And he is... not aware of that."
To Honoka, this felt like an important step. She expected her grandmother to not understand since her childhood was filled with tragedy due to the Second World War, and thus she expected the old woman to be unnerved by the fact she may be crushing on a foreigner of all possible suitors.
However...
"Oh. Ohhhh!" The Matriarch showed a degree of understanding of what was going on. "So... you are the one that is trying to go after boys."
"Boy, a single boy," Honoka blushed, "And I am trying to get that done thanks to Nagisa-chan's help since I am helping her with Shougo."
More surprise flared up in the old woman's expression, and then she... giggled. "Truly?"
"...What?"
"My dear, are you truly sure that your friend, Nagisa, will not end up trying to snatch the foreign boy from your clutches?"
Honoka offered a confused look. After all, her grandmother was talking about Nagisa. The tomboy was quite honest with who she liked but... there was some merit since Mark and Nagisa were able to stand out together a lot. Others may misunderstand like that.
"O-Of course not. She is my friend, and she is quite blunt about her likes."
"...I suppose time will tell."
Despite this promise that she may incur in more trouble than she is expecting, Honoka was more than fine to see this first home visit as a victory to cherish and work upon: the path of seducing Marcus Lupo had just begun!
AN
It's back! Quick recap: this is the story where MC, Marcus 'Mark' Lupo, is a foreigner (not-SI) that ends up becoming the Green 'Precure Ranger' thanks to the Green Prism Stone. But what should have been just one or two seasons... turn into him becoming something of a relevant side/mentor character in all versions of the Precure show.
In present times he is in the HUGtto! Pretty Cure time-point working as a teacher.
