Chapter 15: The Magic Knights Captain Conference

A day later in the evening...

"Wizard King, Freyja-sama." Marx addressed his leaders. "I have sent a message to all of the Magic Knight Captains regarding tomorrow's conference."

"Thank you, Marx." Julius nodded. "I don't want to believe it, but it's clear that there's traitor among us who's connected to the Eye of the Midnight Sun. And we'll find out who it is tomorrow."

"But are you sure this is going to work?" Marx was skeptical.

"It all depends on Asta-nii." Rhiannon stated.

"Rhiannon," Julius turned serious. "Yami's report indicated that you are familiar with the enemy."

"Freyja-sama?" Marx blinked.

"Julius, Marx, the two of you know this is my second incarnation, yes?" Rhiannon reminded. "And I still retain the memories of my previous life."

"Does that mean..." Marx's eyes widened, realizing what Rhiannon was implying. "Our enemies are acquainted with the first Lady Freyja?"

"Julius, Marx, how much do you know about the elves?" Rhiannon posted a question.

The next day...

"We've been waiting for you." Marx greeted the arriving Yami and Asta. "Captain of the Black Bulls, Yami Sukehiro, and Asta."

"My name is Marx." Marx realized this was the first time he spoke to Asta face-to-face. "I'm the Wizard King's advisor. It'll take a bit more time to finish preparing for the conference, so please wait with the other Captains. Would you come with me, Asta?"

In the palace's underground dungeon...

"Asta, great work again." Julius greeted the anti-magic user. "Sorry to bring you here when you're probably still tired, but you're the only one who can use the anti-magic sword."

"Wizard King." Rhiannon coughed, before Julius went off tangent.

"Sorry about that." Julius chuckled. "All right, Asta. Could you give it a try?"

"What's the deal with that brat?" Catherine frowned.

"This isn't good." George muttered as Asta walked towards them, the 'Demon-Slayer Sword' drawn. "That's the brat who uses anti-magic. He's planning on breaking the protection spell that's on our memories."

"Don't touch me, you stupid brat." Catherine panicked.

Her warning came too late when Asta tapped the sword's crossguard on their foreheads.

"Now, Marx." Julius instructed.

"Memory Communication Magic: Mémoire Absolue." Marx went to work.

"What is this?" Asta gawked at the memory-link map appearing at the top of the captives' heads.

"I've made a connection directly into their heads and this spell allows me to get answers from their true memories." Marx explained. "Now, they won't be able to hide anything anymore. I will ask you both a few questions." he started the interrogation. "Answer me honestly."

In the conference room...

"I apologize for keeping you waiting." Marx addressed the gathered Magic Knights Captain via his communication projection. "Everything is ready. So, if you'd hold the conference in another room..."

"You come here." Yami glared.

In the palace's underground dungeon...

"What do you need, Wizard King, Lady Freyja?" William inquired, the Magic Knights Captains had assembled in the dungeon.

"Those two are from the Eye of the Midnight Sun." Charlotte recognized the captives. "Did you learn something from them?"

"A couple of things, thanks to Marx and Asta." Julius replied. "I suppose this is the biggest one. We've learned that there is a traitor among you who is working for the Eye of the Midnight Sun."
