Sweets and a job offer
[ACSR: Judgement no Katsudou]
Joule was walking down the street to the judgement office with Uiharu and Saten beside her. She was humming out her new song to get the sound of it. Saten was telling Uiharu about another urban legend, to be fair she had talked about this one before but there was new occurrences to talk about now. Uiharu was not impressed "Just because some wind turbines spun backwards last night, it doesn't mean the apocalypse is coming!"
Saten pleaded with her "But you remember what Joule said? Any rumours we hear about end up being true!"
At that Joule stopped humming and replied "I never said that."
Saten looked over in confusion "You said it like two or three days ago?"
Uiharu then quoted from memory "Joule was actually commenting on 'how many adventures have we been on that we only got into because of your rumours?'"
Saten blushed "Ah, okay. This could still be the signal of another adventure. What could cause air turbines to spin backwards?"
Uiharu stepped in to explain "Certain types of electromagnetic waves could do it."
Saten nodded excitedly "Okay, so maybe not the end of the world but this is a mystery and going by our track record, we will solve it!"
The conversation went on a bit longer before they reached the building that had the judgement office.
When they got there Kuroko was already there but it seemed Konori was out. They all said hello and Kuroko nodded, clearly distracted by her thoughts.
On the table was a box of some sort, Saten opened it and gasped in joy "Oh yummy, Anshindo's sweet treat summer buns. These are super rare, limited time only products!"
Uiharu, who had sat on the sofas with Joule as Saten opened the box, asked "Really?"
Saten was still excited however so she continued, directing her question at Kuroko "Oh my gosh, they look so delicious, is one for me?" she dragged out that last word as Uiharu thought of how to caution Saten "Well, um, it's just..." she petered off as she looked at Kuroko who was working on a laptop.
"You are all welcome to have some." Kuroko spoke without her eyes leaving the screen. Saten spun round to Kuroko and clasped her hands together "Really?"
Saten then stopped and but a finger to her chin "But, Wait. You had some of these yesterday too? You said you were bringing them home to Misaka? Are these the same ones?"
Kuroko lifted her voice as if she didn't care but it was clear she was putting it on "Yes well, apparently she wasn't in the mood for sweets yesterday. That aside she seemed to be doing fine, so there is nothing to be worried about" By the end her voice was becoming more convincing.
The three friends around the box glanced at each other as the door opened and Konori walked in, she glanced around and noticed that the friends were there and then what they were sitting and standing around.
She gasped in delight "Wow, I would recognise those anywhere! But those are hard to come by, did someone hear me say how much I wanted one? That's so considerate."
Her outburst caused those around the box to chuckle. Uiharu then offered "Why don't you have some with us Shirai?"
"No thank you, I'm okay." Kuroko muttered as she kept working on the laptop. Uiharu laughed, walked over to her and turned her chair away from the laptop. Uiharu had a smile in her voice "Oh don't be like that. I'll make some of that special tea I have been saving too."
All Kuroko could do then was sigh.
The buns were divided between them. Everyone had two leaving six in the box for later.
As Saten and Uiharu complemented the sweets, Kuroko got down to buisness with Konori.
"Possible arson you said?" Konori nodded in responce to the question "Yeah, there has been a whole sequence of unexplained fires. They have occured in research facilities all over." she then shrugged "We haven't received any requests for assistance from them and it doesn't seem to be too serious."
Uiharu looked over as Saten stole her second sweet "I wonder whats going on?"
Saten then spoke with a mouthful of stolen bun "I would put my money on a bunch of false alarms."
Kuroko was quietly thinking as Uiharu accused Saten and got an admission of guilt in return.
She stood up suddenly "I'm heading out. I think I'll patrol for a bit. Maybe they haven't asked for our assistance but that doesn't change the fact that arson is involved."
Konori agreed "I guess if something did happen, we'd be too late."
Kuroko turned to leave "My thoughts exactly, so I think we should increase patrols from now on."
As she left the others looked at each other.
Saten then raised an eyebrow "Which research buildings were attacked."
Uiharu grabbed the laptop that Kuroko had been using and pulled them all up on a map. Saten then turned her phone around to show a video of a turbine spinning backwards "Ok, where on the map is this turbine."
They continued for a few minutes and it revealed that every turbine was within a short distance of one of the buildings.
Joule looked around "An electromaster could cause the turbines to reverse right? Is this sabotage rather than arson?"
Konori nodded slowly "I'll look into this, it might certainly be important."
[ASG: Beginning of a Long Night]
Back at the apartment that GV and Joule shared, GV was searching the dark net of academy city for a job.
Instead of finding one, he got an email. He had left a redirection link so that emails could be sent to him and yet for his identity to remain hidden.
The email read as followed
"Greetings, I have need of a guard on August 20th to help save a large group, if interested send a reply to this link. We will need to meet on the 18th to discuss the job" GV traced the sender, they were hidden well but not well enough.
He looked and made a decision about what to do tomorrow night.
End of chapter
The time gets a little hard to manage here for me, as far as I understand; the first half of episode 7 is on the 17th and the latter half is on the 18th.
Either way we are finally getting some action in this arc.
Later correction: Better dates, 8-the first half of 12 happen during the same night, thus the night before 12, thus august 20th.
