Trapped
[ACMI2: Psychic Battle]
Oriana Thomson was not having a good day.
She ducked into an alley as one of the kids that was hunting her ran past. Before she only had to run away but now they'd gotten faster, there were more of them and they seemed to have someone, maybe a few someones, directing them.
Her winning condition was leading them around until tonight, not that they knew that. She was free to use all manner of backhanded tricks to do that.
She ducked into an underground station and waved as she stepped onto a departing train.
Whoever was in charge would likely direct someone to be waiting for her but here was where she could cheat. She ripped a tag out of her flipbook and pressed it against the train wall. The other people in the train were too busy to notice her jumping through a solid train wall and rolling out into the tunnels.
Of course, they had a mage tracking her location with that wind spell but it couldn't see her below ground, only track her location.
They would know she stopped but not why.
She ran on into darkness, ripping another tag and placing it on her face to give herself some night vision.
Escaping through a back tunnel she found her way to the surface.
At this point it was a game of cat and mouse. If she were honest she never liked playing mouse but in this case she could win as long as she kept ahead of her pursuers. If she could get them alone, she could kill them one by one to make some room for herself.
She didn't like killing but she accepted it when she had to. This job was too important for her own morals to get in the way.
Damn, one was here right now! Now was a good chance. The boy with black hair "Imagine breaker."
She had studied the people she might encounter so she knew roughly how his ability worked even if he hadn't shown it off earlier.
Lets see, attacks he won't be able to block. Ah, here was one.
She ripped a tag and made a ball of air slam into him from behind. As he stumbled she ran up with her package and wacked him in the chest.
"Honestly," She began slowly "I expected better from you."
Keep taunting, an angry enemy is an enemy that targets you directly, ignoring any attacks you've set up to kill them.
"Are you really out with only a single stroke, I expected you to be at least a bit more manly."
And taunts filled with innuendo can confuse and disorient. Plus, they make the battle more fun.
Rip a tag, detonate the floor below him. She smiled as he flew up into the air with a yell.
He was probably dead or out cold, one less enemy to get in the way.
"Damn."
Or he could be just fine. That worked too. He was lying on the floor after landing from the explosion. She sighed as she realised that he didn't even look very injured.
Well, backup plan.
"A little warning." She offered as she pulled out her tags again "This next one is called Blade Crater. If you move, you'll die."
Rip. Lines on the floor with a shifting rainbow hue appared. The lines surrounded the boy, entrapping him. Yet the boy stood anyway, was he mad? She had told him this will kill him if he moves.
"What am I supposed to do?" He asked angrily "Sit here and wait? It's the Daihase festival. The event everyone has worked so hard for, and you want to ruin it! And I'm just supposed to let that happen?"
Oh goody. He honestly thought he was doing the 'right thing', she wouldn't blame him for that though. He was wrong but he believed strongly in it regardless.
"I'd never forgive myself if I allowed that to happen! If I didn't try to stop you! So that's what I'm going to do!"
He took a step forward.
End of chapter.
Sorry for it being late and being short. I forgot to write this week's chapter when I normally do (Was busy with holiday prep)
Normally I wouldn't cut a fight in half but in the actual episode there's an ad break here and I want to just leave off here for now.
There probably won't be a chapter next week (Due to boxing day) but I will try to do one for the second of jan.
