[ASG: Cyanotype]
In a void of blue, an endless space, a fairy appeared once again.
Lumen looked up and around before offering a grin as she did before.
"Hello to you all, wonderful watchers of our story."
"Yes, I am talking to you all. You guys who have been watching us since we entered Academy City."
She gave a wink "And yes, I am massively breaking the fourth wall right now."
She paused for a moment as if to give effect before she continued.
"As the author is still wasting time until the third game comes out, we have another event that never happened for you-"
Pausing a moment she shrugged "Okay, it kind of happened. It's an extension of Chapter 130- ah, that's the chapter named Chapter 130, not the published Chapter 130 which is actually Chapter 127."
With that done, she nodded "The original ended after the rescue of Joule from Sumeragi. This one extends it a little further though. Due to that, we'll be starting from the end of that conversation."
Eyes went to Lumen then who nodded "They had locked Joule in a machine and were using machines to control me. My ability to increase an Adept- an esper's power made the Espers easier to track."
"Adept? Is that your world's word for Esper?" Uiharu asked.
GV hesitated but nodded "There are a few differences but overall, yes. Regardless, when I found Joule locked in that machine, I freed her and we escaped."
"That's amazing!" Arisa exclaimed "It's so romantic, like a prince rescuing a princess from a castle."
"Or an angel rescuing a lost soul from the underworld." Lumen agreed with a smirk. At the word angel, Joule had blushed slightly but they quickly moved on.
GV gave a sigh as he looked around the room once again. Other than himself and Joule there were many people listening to them.
Around the table sat Joule's friends, Misaka leading them. Arisa sat on the bed while Touma, Index and Kanzaki were a bit further away in the kitchenette.
"After that," Gunvolt began, "I quit QUILL. They had ordered me to kill Joule rather than take the risk of extracting her.
There were general sounds of anger from around the room at that but Joule raised a hand "They had a point. It was hard for him."
A snort came from Lumen at that as she commented "Says the person who was unconscious for it all. I was the one who had to guide him past those patrols."
Joule blushed and GV continued on with a smile "Once we reached my apartment, we started living together as we do now. It took some time but I was eventually able to get her enrolled in a school that didn't ask too many questions."
"It was… an experience." Joule noted, a little sadly "I had friends but I couldn't be honest with them. I was still in hiding and if I'd revealed who I was, Sumeragi would have found me. So when my friends would talk about how horrible it was that terrorists had destroyed the muse, all I could do was sit in silence."
"And you couldn't sing," Arisa realised "Because they would have recognised it."
"I could still sing at home." Joule said, "And I still found other outlets. Once GV started working with QUILL again, we once held a party with a Karaoke machine that we knew to be safe. GV's old boss designed it."
"Two questions," Misaka asked her "First, GV rejoined QUILL?"
"No." GV said simply, "I just started taking contracts from them. That let me keep my apartment and pay for our living situation."
Misaka nodded but continued "Second, GV's old boss was mentioned earlier, what was he like?"
GV shrugged "Asimov? He-"
"I'm sorry, Asimov?" Uiharu had to interrupt "As in the writer?"
GV hesitated "I don't actually know, I think it was a code name but it honestly might have been a family name." He shook his head "Regardless, He was an Adept too, I never learned what his ability was though, he normally fought with a rifle with multiple modes."
"Who else was a part of QUILL?" Saten asked "Was it a small organisation or…?"
"Not that small." Gv commented offhand "I never interacted with most of them but I saw a few of them. My support team consisted of three others, including Asimov, and then there were various support staff that would help out behind the scenes. I never really interacted with them after quitting though so I couldn't tell you much."
With a sip of tea, he went back to the earlier point.
"So, Joule was at school again. I'd take contracts once a week for the money to pay bills and put food on the table. We were at that for a few months before everything went to hell. If I had to say, it probably started a month in though."
[ASG: Nebulous Clock]
"It started when I was told about this undersea base. One of the members of my support staff told me Sumeragi was building a heavily armed submarine there. My mission was to go there, confirm if there was a submarine and disarm it if it was there."
Misaka was thinking about something though so she spoke up "Undersea? Your power doesn't like water though, right?"
"Right." He confirmed "I snuck onto one of the submarines that was hauling resources. It was amazingly easy and I began making my way through the base, taking out enemies on the way. That worked fine until the Adept in charge tried to flood the place to kill me."
"He tried to flood you? Was he a Water Adept?" Kuroko asked.
Gunvolt shook his head, "Teleporter, actually. He could open up portals and he could leave them around as invisible traps I could stumble into. When I say he flooded me, I mean he literally flooded the undersea base to try and drown me."
Taking another sip of tea, he moved on "So, there I was. At the bottom of the sea. Water crashing around me. My power discharged into the water and hurt me even as I rushed to escape. And then my shocks paralysed my legs and I tripped into the water."
There was a pause, not one filled by him drinking tea but more of him thinking back to the event.
"I fell into the freezing water and pulled myself out quickly but I was soaked through, any use of my power would electrocute me. The problem was, there were these doors that I wouldn't be able to break quickly without using my power."
Misaka seemed to realise the horror of what he was saying, but she didn't say anything as he continued slowly.
"My heart stopped. The world went rushed into my lungs as it covered my head."
He turned to look at Joule and she took up the story, starting with "I was at home at the time. Watching some reruns of some old anime. Suddenly though, I could feel what he could feel. The darkness and pain. And so, I started to sing for him."
[ASG: Reincarnation]
"So how did he hear you, did you hack into his earpiece or something?" Saten asked.
GV shook his head "It was telepathic actually. It turns out that Lumen had been following me on my missions for the past few weeks and by using her link to Joule, they were able to bring me back, purge my body of sea water and give me greater control of my power."
"Praise me more." Lume demanded, hugging her arms around GV. Joule flushed at that and ordered Lumen to get off GV.
GV just continued telling the story "The improved control allowed me to direct my power properly underwater and when wet. I blasted through the rest of the base like a thunderbolt and eventually defeated the Adept."
"Wait-" Uiharu realised something "What happened to the submarine?"
"Oh, that?" GV asked "I didn't mention it? It was bait. The room they were trying to flood was one of their, empty, submarine docks. It never existed."
"So it was a targeted assassination attempt?" Kanzaki asked, speaking up for once from the back of the room. GV just nodded at her.
"After that-" GV continued, sitting in a chair at last and sighing "It seemed that every contract was related to one of Sumeragi's top Adepts. One could control light, another fire. Then I had to fight this non-adept who was a real Jitthead. He was copying the abilities of Adepts with technology and was really racist-"
"Pause," Saten requested, then asked, "Racist?"
"Discriminatory towards Adepts. He wanted to kill us all."
"So like Skill-out?" Misaka wondered.
GV shrugged "Imagine if Skill-out had machines to copy the abilities of high level adepts and you've basically got what that guy carried around with him."
"Shall I take over?" Joule asked, seeing that GV was getting tired with telling the story. He gave her a nod and continued "While there were three more of those Adepts he had to beat, I'll skip to the interesting one and give you some background. One of the Adepts had the power to revive the dead as zombies and little did we know, she was reviving the Adepts we defeated. During some of these missions, GV fell and needed our song to revive him. We were even offering him other boosts on occasion when his emotions surged. Each time we sang though, we were making small ripples that Sumeragi could use to track us. "
Joule smiled sadly "It was a few months after I started living with him that it happened. That first Adept, the teleporter, just arrived at the apartment and kidnapped me. Sumeragi still wanted to use my power to mind control every Adept in the world. GV bravely raced after me as I could still follow him with a fragment of Lumen's power."
"As a note." Lumen began "We were really limited in our freedom. The device was a stronger version of the one I had been kept in before. It actually prevented me from acting on my own. I was basically under mind control and only Joule's feelings let me reach him at all."
Joule blushed but continued.
"GV fought his way to the space elevator I was being held in-"
There were some gasps as people put together why she hadn't liked Endymion.
"-and he climbed up it, re-defeating every adept on his way back up."
"And the adept hunter." GV noted "Defeated him again too. It was actually quite hard as he was using the abilities from all of the Adepts now."
Joule just nodded and continued "Until finally he reached Firmament, the orbital base at the top of the elevator."
Lumen gave you a smile at that and a wink "The story continues in- This story's Prologue! Go back and read it if you want."
The blue world was here again as Lumen finished out "Telling the rest of the story would be tiring. Imagine it getting up to this point, just trading between speakers."
She started spinning slowly "And then it starts from the beginning again and again."
Stopping on a dime, she spun the other way until she was facing you and pointed "There will be no infinite loops in this story. For a while anyway. Instead, this OVA will end here!"
End of chapter.
Next week is the week!
So yes, no upload next week, I'll be too busy playing. After that though, the story continues as normal.
