"Elijah, what are you doing here?"
Freya asked her former lover after she had opened her front door and found said man behind it. Looking at her with an expression she quite didn't know how to name.
"You look… tired. I take it you had another tequila night yesterday." Elijah bemused.
"Something like that." Freya mumbled. "Come in Elijah, welcome to my modest home."
Elijah stepped into her kitchen where she was currently making coffee.
"So, what brings you here again. Need something else siphoned?"
"No, I just figured I owe you an apology. I had no right to be that hostile. I broke your heart, not the other way around. I had no right to act like the angry victim."
"Well, the last I saw you before yesterday, you blamed me that I had seduced your brother to get back at you, so it's understandable, that you would continue just the way you left off."
Elijah had to acknowledge that Freya was right, he had blamed her of that and more. "It's ancient history. So, it's true, you have been looking for my brother all this time?"
"No, I lied, to piss you off. Of course I haven't been chasing your brother for 1000 years to rekindle some old romance. Come on, give me some credit, would you."
Elijah laughed, "Alright, so why are you in town?"
"Is it so hard to believe that I was passing just through?"
"Of course. You had to know it's our city…"
"I did, I wasn't searching for Niklaus to rekindle some old romance. I was searching for him because I need him. His protection."
"Against what?"
Freya hesitated but admitted it, "My Father."
"What? Giuseppe Salvatore is alive?"
"Yes. Unfortunately."
"Then you have to come to the compound for your own protection. We can't protect you so well, when you live across town."
Freya raised up her palms as signal to not come closer and said, "Maybe. But I'm not coming anywhere, before I have had a chance to talk to your brother. Will you tell him that I'm in town?"
Elijah cringed at that. He had decided last night that he would keep Freya all to himself for the moment. Klaus didn't deserve to be reunited with his first love after everything he had done lately.
Elijah was brought out of his thoughts by Klaus' voice, "Why don't you tell him yourself."
"Nik." Freya was shocked to see Klaus standing there in her doorway. He seemed so shocked and hurt at seeing her alive and well.
They stared at each other for the longest time, until Elijah asked, "Niklaus, how did you…"
"I followed you. You acted strange, I wanted to know what's up."
"I just found out yesterday that she wasn't killed like we thought, but has actually ran from her father for 1000 years."
"So Giuseppe Salvatore was turned." It was more of a statement than a question. Freya and Klaus continued to stare at each other until Klaus told his brother, "I'm sorry, Elijah, but would you leave us alone for a little while. I want to talk to her alone."
Elijah looked at Freya who just nodded that it was okay to leave them alone. So Elijah did what was asked of him.
When Elijah was gone, Klaus was the first to open his mouth after coming into the apartment and closing the door behind him. He took a few steps towards her and then stopped to say, "You seem well."
"You too. And I am. Well, I mean."
Klaus just nodded.
"What are you doing here, in New Orleans, specifically?" Klaus finally asked what he wanted to know first.
"I came looking for you. I didn't tell that to Elijah but as soon as I heard that you were residing in NOLA, I had to come and see you. And I did, from a far. I was about to leave. The night before yesterday was suppose to be my last night here, but then Elijah found me and I couldn't go any longer."
"Why?"
"Because I hoped that maybe you wanted to see me too." Freya nervously looked down and fidgeted with the rings on her fingers.
Klaus sighed and saw that it was more complicated then he had thought at first. He started pacing and then raised his voice as he asked with a hint of anger in his voice.
"You never came back the next summers, ever and the next thing I knew, I heard you were killed by your father."
"I was, but obviously I came back to life and now I'm a heretic, witch-vampire."
"Okay, we'll get to that soon enough, but right now tell me why didn't you ever return?"
"I wanted to. But I was ashamed."
"Why?"
"After I got home that summer, our summer, I found out I was pregnant."
Klaus stopped mid-step and turned to look at her in shock.
"What?"
"Yes, thanks to mom I carried it to term but I couldn't take care of a baby while hiding from Giuseppe, so I gave him up."
Freya saw tears stream down his face now.
"I don't know what happened to him. I just hope he had a good life you know."
Klaus walked over to her and grabbed her arms, shaking her lightly, "Why didn't you come to me, I could have helped you?"
"You were a fifteen year old boy, what could you have done back then." Freya raised her voice back at him.
"I don't know, but my family could have helped you." Klaus told her after letting her go and starting to pace again.
"What's done is done, Nik."
"Yeah, I guess so…" Then he walked over to her again and using his softer voice, he told her, "If Giuseppe is alive and is targeting you, we need to get you to the compound. I can't protect you if you live across town."
"Elijah said the same thing."
"Well, then Elijah is right." He smiled.
"I'm a strong, powerful witch-heretic. What makes you think I need your help at all?" Freya challenged him
"Everyone's got weaknesses. At the end of the day you are a vampire, easily killed as simply a vampire."
Freya contemplated what he was saying.
"Ok, but that doesn't mean we'll start something again. IF I come, we'll just be friends."
"Deal. I just want to know you are safe, I don't care about anything else."
"Deal." They smiled at each other and Klaus started to help her pack.
