Della was able to drop by that evening after leaving the office. He was awake, so there was no need to sleep during her visit with him.
He hadn't eaten anything at all today, so that was a good reason to chat with her while eating.
Perry decided on ordering pizza would be best choice tonight. Della didn't say anything about bringing good over, and he was fine with that.
While waiting for her to arrive, Perry thought back to the accident that happened before he was taken to the hospital. Maybe this could be worth sharing with Paul, but all Perry could remember he was on the way to work like that officer asked while Paul was with him.
Paul called while Perry looked outside the window looking for Della's car to show up.
"Hi, Perry. How are you doing?" Paul asked.
"I'm okay. I was just looking back to the time before I was taken into the hospital."
"You were? That's good because it could help you and me get to the bottom of this. What do you remember?"
"I'm sure you remember bringing that officer with you earlier."
"Yes, I do. What about it?"
"I thought about the time before I was taken in. He was right about the time."
"That's a good thing you were able to answer his question."
"I know. Della's supposed to stop by soon. She didn't tell me what time or anything."
"That's nice to keep you company for a while. Maybe there's something that this case you could share."
"I was thinking the same thing, Paul. Have you found anything else?"
"Yes, I did. Your car is in the garage. It didn't look that bad, but we agreed it could stay there until we are able to find out the names of the couple I mentioned about who started the accident. We're in contact."
"I'm happy you were able to keep those people nearby so we could ask them questions. I'd like to speak with them myself tomorrow."
"Perry, I don't know. You're supposed to be resting, not working."
"I know, but I want to do something and get this case done quicker."
"I understand. I can do some of it. Good thing the courtroom doesn't have anything to do with this yet. It's too soon to tell for now."
Perry agreed.
"We're still in the beginning, Paul. What else did you find out?"
"Nothing much. I just wanted to call and let you know where your car is after you were taken in with the paramedics. Maybe I will call that doctor tomorrow and see what he has to say about you returning to work."
"I don't even know the doctor's name."
"Dr. Webber. He was the one who called the office when you were taken in."
"Smart of him to do that, Paul. Doctors have to be smart."
"Exactly. I will talk with you again tomorrow, but will come over."
"All right. Sounds good to me. I think I see Della's car pulling up now. Just call me whenever you can."
"Will do, Perry. Talk tomorrow."
Paul hung up and so did he.
Della didn't need to ring or knock on the door. She knew where he was and what he was doing, so that's why.
"Perry, I'm here."
He walked into the living room just then.
"It took you a while to get here."
"I know. I was stuck in traffic for a while. I did bring some food with me. Have you eaten anything today?"
Perry shook his head and answered, "Not yet. I was thinking of ordering some pizza to be delivered at the house before you showed up."
"I bought salad and apple pie for dessert. I was thinking of taking something from the grocery store. I hope you don't mind."
"No, I don't. I was on the phone with Paul before you showed up. He was only telling me about the car."
"Good thing you have to know about where the car is when you're ready to pick it up."
"True. You can stay for a while, but I'm not tired yet, so we can have a chat."
"That's why I'm here for. We had several phone calls from clients today asking to talk with you. I had to tell them you were taking a break for a while, and I didn't say anything to them about the accident you were involved with. It's too soon sharing with clients. I'll be right back with the food."
"Thanks, Della. I'll be in the kitchen."
"All right. I'll be back shortly."
It felt good to have Della's company since all he did was sleep most of today. Perry remembered what Paul said about sharing about sharing some of this information with Della on what happened with the accident.
She was in and out very quickly, and he was fine with that since she didn't bring much with her after what she mentioned about the food. Pizza can wait for another time. Good thing he didn't call in the pizza.
They both enjoyed the conversation during the meal.
"Paul wanted me to tell you if there's any new information I remembered what happened earlier today I could share with you."
"That's fine with me. What do you remember?"
"I told him all I remembered was the time of the accident. He said the couple who hit me are in contact with us. I want to talk with them myself right away."
"I agree with Paul, Perry. It's too soon for you to come back to work right away."
"I know, but you know how it is. I want to stay busy and get this out of the way."
"I understand that. But it wouldn't hurt you to take a few days off so you could get the rest that you need from what the doctor said."
"I heard the same from Paul. I don't need to hear about this twice."
"Too late for that, Perry. Is there anything else you remember about this case?"
"I'm thinking, Della."
He took a few bites of the salad thar she bought over with her. It tasted good. He hadn't eaten in a long time.
"What do you think of the salad?"
"Good. Can't wait for dessert."
He thought for a while to look back about earlier today before he blacked out and the paramedics took him.
"Let me think."
"You don't need to tell me tonight if you can't think of anything."
"I know. It might even come to me tomorrow when Paul stops by."
Their plates were empty from the salad Della had bought with her on the way over. She wasn't a big fan of pizza.
Perry looked at the clock. It was starting to get late, but there was more time for the pie.
"It's getting late, Della."
"I know. Let's have dessert first and then I can head home and you to bed."
"You can spend the night here," he offered.
"Thanks, Perry. Maybe another time."
She'd been his secretary for a long time, and they work really well together, which was a good sign.
If Perry remembered anything, he could always wait until tomorrow to share with Paul and an officer he would bring. He didn't have enough memory to share with Della. That was all he remembered.
"Did you get a close look at the license plate before you knocked out?" Della asked.
"No, I didn't. It was too soon and then I knocked out. That's all I can say for today."
"If you remember something, you call us."
"I plan to. Be sure to take good care of the clients while I'm gone."
"I have been doing that, Perry. I will talk with you tomorrow."
"Okay. This pie is delicious."
"It sure is. I'll put it in the fridge and you can finish it whenever you have a chance."
"Sleep tight."
"Will do."
