Days went by since Qui-Gon left for his "important business" trip. With Qui-Gon away, it was up to Shmi to look after their three children. But while Shmi was at work, it was up to Kara to look after her brothers. Her father told her this was her time to be a hero, and although she wasn't wearing a colorful costume or battling a giant robot, she took the job very seriously.

Today, Shmi was held up at the restaurant, so Kara had the job of picking up her brothers from school. Kara drove the speeder to the elementary school, where she saw the twins outside waiting for her.

The twins got into the back of the speeder so their sister could drive them home.

"Hi, Kara." said Carmine.

"Any word from Dad yet?" Anakin asked.

"Hello to you too, boys. Nothing yet." Kara called. "For whatever reason, Dad's not answering his phone or returning any of my text messages."

"Maybe he's just really busy." Anakin shrugged.

"I hope you're right, but I'm also worried." Kara said. "Usually when Dad's away, he at least makes time for one moment to send us a video to say goodnight to us."

"I hope Daddy's okay." Carmine said.

"Nothing can hurt Dad." Anakin said. "He's indestructible and stronger than two thousand men."

"It's true," said Kara. "And right now, we need to be strong for him while he's away."

Kara drove the speeder down the street to get the twins home, when she noticed the sky turning dark and cloudy.

"Uh oh. Looks like it's going to rain."

Kara stopped the speeder as she came to a red light, but when she did, the lights suddenly started to change every second and then all of them started flashing at once. Other days, this would probably be seen as a simple malfunction, but this time, there were flashes of green lightning hitting random spots in the city.

"What was that?!" the twins asked in unison.

"I have no idea. But we best get indoors before we get hit next." Kara said.

Quickly, Kara began steering the speeder down the street to get her brothers safely home.

Kara called Shmi on her phone, but didn't get quite the answer she was hoping for.

"Kara! Are you and the boys alright?" Shmi asked.

"Yeah, Mom. We're fine. What's wrong? You sound distressed."

"I just saw lightning striking outside. A storm appears coming. I'm closing early."

"Stay where you are, Mom. We're coming to get you too."

Fortunately, the restaurant wasn't far from where the children were now, and they managed to get there and pick Shmi up to drive home. Unfortunately, lightning struck the ground, just barely missing the Jinns' vehicle, and causing Kara to swerve down the path and crash into a post. Thankfully, though, no one was hurt.

"Is everyone alright?"

"We're fine." Anakin said. "Mom?"

"I'm alright. Kara, are you alright?"

"That lightning just came out of nowhere!" Kara gasped.

Everyone got out of the speeder so Shmi could call a tow truck, but when Shmi tried to use her phone, all she got was static and the line being cut off.

"That's odd." Shmi said. "My phone isn't working."

"Let me try." Kara took out her phone and got the same results. So did the twins.

And that was when more lightning struck, this time in the road closer to where the Jinn family was standing. The ground started to shake all around them, Kara quickly hugging her brothers to shield them as the quake seemed to get rougher. As if that weren't terrifying enough, cracks started to appear in the roads, growing and growing until a sinkhole popped into the ground. But it wasn't just with the Jinns. Cracks like this were appearing all over the city.

Sinkholes appeared all over town, and everywhere a sinkhole sunk down, something else came up! And out from those holes came an enormous robot that had a sphere for a body and large metal arms with sharp metal claws. A green robot eye of some sort appeared atop the robots, and they had a message.

"People of the Galaxy," said a female voice. "I am Mariverde, your new master. This is the beginning of a new empire, the Age of the Doreshos! And all who fight or disobey me shall die at the hands of my Omni-droids!"

All the omni-droids opened their tops when Mariverde finished, and out came thousands of green and black moths flew out and spread across town. But it wasn't just Alderaan that was being attacked. Cities on Naboo, Shili, Balith, Stewjon! These things were everywhere, and they were taking over so many planets!

People were screaming, running, and hiding, trying to escape these moths, but everywhere they went, more of them just kept coming. With no superheroes to stop these attacks, how would anyone survive? But, it didn't appear these moths accounted for there being heroes hidden in plain sight.

Kara quickly got everyone to hold hands as she quickly sped them away from the danger. They had to get somewhere safe, but they couldn't leave without stopping to get Artoo. Home was the last place they could stay now, as the moths reached them there too, and now knew where they lived!

Kara and her family all rushed as fast as they could to get to another speeder and rush out of town.

"What are those things?!" Anakin said.

"Moths, by the look of it." Kara said. "No doubt made by some bug villain."

Suddenly, things started to come together. Kara couldn't believe she and her brother didn't think of this sooner! These business trips their father was going on? What kind of fitness instructor took business trips, or traveled halfway across the world to be a private instructor? And with Qui-Gon, he cared way more about protecting his family than he did about his job, that being proven as he was willing to remain a stay-at-home after quitting his original job, and he was a pro at it until he took this new job. But Kara could swear she caught a glimpse of something blue under her father's jacket one day, and it definitely wasn't one of his workout shirts.

"Something tells me Dad's new job and exercises didn't involve pilates."

Shmi took the wheel this time, and she started to drive the fastest way she could figure out to leave the city, but it did no good as a huge swarm of mariclavas flew in and covered the windshield and started breaking the windows, getting into the vehicle and then taking the wheel, causing it to spin all around, everyone screaming as they thought they were going to die.

However, to the Jinns' great surprise, just as the speeder flipped, someone or something caught them, and the bugs started to fly off as some kind of electrical blast hit them, and whoever or whatever caught the ship turned it back over and opened the doors to get everyone out. And the ones who came to help were what they assumed were men in black armor, each of them with different symbols and helmets that covered their faces. One of them had a little skull symbol on the right shoulder pad on his armor.

He offered his hand to Kara and said, "Come with us if you wanna live."

Not seeing a better choice, Kara took the man's hand while another one helped Shmi up, and the biggest of the group picked up the twins and ran with them. The Jinns were brought down the street by these masked heroes and brought to a ship that was hidden in an alley.

One of the soldiers, whose helmet had a visor made to fit over a pair of glasses, went to the pilot's seat while his allies got the Jinns safely strapped in.

"Initiating cloaking device," said the one with the visor. "Everyone, welcome to the Havoc Marauder."

"Who are you people?" Shmi asked. "Where are you taking us?"

"Somewhere you'll be safe, Ma'am." said the one who appeared to be the leader. "We're a secret allegiance of heroes known as the Bad Batch.

Like many heroes, these guys had codenamed too. The leader was called Sensor, the biggest one was called Wrecking Ball, the pilot called himself the Gamer, the one with the little droid was called Hard Drive, and the quietest one was named Quarry.

"You guys are supers?" Kara asked.

"Sort of," said another one who had a miniature astro-mech droid by his side. "We have natural abilities of our own, which our father enhanced with some modifications to our gear and a little serum he created."

"He's been a big supporter of supers since before they were outlawed." said Sensor. "And he felt especially bad for your dad."

"Our dad?" Anakin said. "How did your dad know our dad?"

Sensor removed his helmet to reveal a man in his mid-twenties with shoulder length hair kept out from his eyes by a red bandana.

"Captain Hardwear's first wife, Miss-ology, saved my life when I was younger." Hunter said. "My real name is Hunter Fett. And these guys are my brothers. Wrecker, Crosshair, Echo, and Tech."

"Why did you save us?" Carmine asked.

Hunter explained to the Jinns that Professor Jango Fett, his father, was very grateful to Captain Hardwear for saving young Hunter's life. Feeling terrible for the hero having lost his wife in the process, the professor paid for a nice memorial to honor her. Hunter decided that day he wanted to be a hero when he grew up, like a lot of kids who'd seen heroes did. Sometime before supers were outlawed, Prof. Fett was recruited by the Jedi Council to work for them. The pay was good, and in the process his sons got to meet many great heroes, and he knew the identities of many heroes too, which Hunter eventually found too when heroes were outlawed.

The Fetts were outraged by the outlawing of heroes. Unlike the government's leaders, Jango and his family could see that was a terrible idea because getting rid of superheroes in a galaxy filled with super villains would be like removing the doors off of houses so intruders or at the very least pesky flies could get in. And boy did a lot of flies get in when the council removed the door that was superheroes. Jango moved his family as quickly as he could to a secret, remote location on an island surrounded by ocean, where it also rained almost every single day of the year.

"Everyone thought Mariverde was just an urban legend." Echo said. "But our late Aunt Arla, she told us as children that she was real alright, and she was proven right. She swore she'd seen Mariverde herself once, which unfortunately led to her demise in the end."

"Dad decided if we couldn't find any supers to fight back, he'd make some himself." Wrecker said.

"And he decided to use his own children as test subjects?" Shmi sounded appalled.

"Of course not! Father is passionate about his work, but he would never do something as dangerous, immoral, and illegal as to use anyone's children as test subjects." Tech said. "He used bugs, namely cockroaches, as test subjects, as they are known to survive almost anything. Eventually, he worked his way to humans, and eventually enhanced our natural abilities in order to ensure our safety and to build a team to support the cause of making superheroes legal again."

The Marauder was flown out of the atmosphere of Alderaan and set on a hyperspace course for the planet Kamino. This was an insane experience for the entire Jinn family, especially for Kara and Shmi; neither of them had left a planet since supers first became illegal. The twins, however, never left Alderaan once in their entire lives. This was pretty scary for them, even with Artoo licking their hands.

Eventually, the group came to a remote island, where the Marauder was contacted by a secure line.

"This is Gamer," said Tech. "We've arrived with another load of rescued hero families. Requesting entry."

"Standby while we scan for security," said the traffic control.

After a careful scan, the Marauder was clear for landing. The Jinn family didn't know it yet, but they were in for a big surprise when they arrived.

The Batch all removed their helmets as they exited the ship and escorted the Jinns off the ship. Carmine, however, seemed scared of these strange people and the unfamiliar territory. Wrecker, however, had an idea. He showed Carmine a black, white, and red tooka doll he always had around. His Lula.

Carmine looked at the plush and hugged it close as he walked out from the Marauder to join his mom and siblings. Artoo started sniffing around the place too.

"Come with us." Hunter said. "Dad's gonna wanna meet you."

This new place looked so amazing. There were all kinds of machines and experiments being conducted in various rooms the group came across as they walked through the hall. And in one of those rooms, there were some mannequins wearing some very stylish-looking super suits made for different kinds of heroes.

"What is all this stuff?" Carmine asked.

"We are not the only ordinary citizens our father has been granting new powers to," said Tech. "Only a select few have been chosen to know of this place and to receive powers."

"So your dad can give people any powers they want?" Anakin said. "I can make plants grow. Can he make me super strong like my dad?"

"Not exactly." Hunter said. "The serum was still experimental around the time we were injected with it, and had a few minor side effects."

"What kind of… side effects?" Shmi said.

"This." Wrecker said, motioning to the left side of his head, where there was a spider web-shaped scar, and he was also blind in his left eye, as a side effect of when he was injected, along with losing his hair prematurely.

Wrecker's dose was designed to enhance his strength. He was a naturally athletic child, so when he gained practically god-like strength, he was more than eager to become a great hero. But he wasn't the only one to face side effects.

Crosshair's dose was made to enhance his vision and sharpshooting skills, and it worked, but it also caused his hair to turn gray prematurely.

"For some, our powers are a blessing and also a curse sometimes." Hunter said, when he caught a whiff of something stinky. "Ugh! Such as having enhanced senses like me."

Hunter removed his glove to have his hand scanned and typed in a code which opened a door to what looked like a simple den where there was a man who resembled Hunter and Echo the most, but he wasn't alone. There were a few youths the Jinns recognized.

Myra and Ahsoka were two of them. And Weather Man's wife Brenda and Myra's little brother Kade were there too.

"What are you guys doing here?" Kara said.

"An enormous swarm of moths attacked our house and chased us out of the city," said Brenda. "But no matter where we went, they followed us. Luckily, some of Prof. Fett's sons came to our rescue."

"I had to run by myself." Ahsoka said. "I was really scared without Mommy and Daddy."

"I'm afraid those moths were just the start of the troubles." Jango said. "Mila, show them why we brought them here."

In came a young woman with a device of some kind, which she placed into the table, and in came a video with Gizmo Girl.

"Prof. Fett. Gizmo Girl, here. I don't have much time. This is a huge emergency. Mariverde lured every super we've trained here purely to get to me and is forcing me to invent maniacal devices for her. She has them all trapped along with the old Republic Council. Take a look for yourself."

And the video changed to show footage of all the supers and the council who banned supers all in a big cell.

"Dad!" Kara, Myra, Kade, and the twins exclaimed when they saw Captain Hardwear and Weather Man were two of the prisoners.

"Mommy and Daddy!" Ahsoka cried.

"They've all been doing hero work behind our backs?" Shmi said. She was beside herself. "But Qui-Gon's never lied to me before."

"You're not the only one to be duped by her husband." Brenda said. "Assuming Mace survives this, Mariverde will be the least scary thing he's had to deal with."

Gizmo Girl continued in the video.

"Mariverde purposely lured us here, knowing I could easily get into the computer that would shut down all the devices. And unfortunately, I can't escape her fortress to get to where the computer actually is. I've done some digging, and it turns out, Mariverde's power is pure magic, which she used to send the computer to the city's central control tower. Luckily, Mariverde still doesn't know the identities of any supers, and there are quite a few I didn't recruit. You need to gather as many as you can in order to find a way into the tower. Further instructions will be in the separate drive provided with this message." And then Gizmo Girl froze as she heard footsteps. "Good luck."

And then the message ended.

"So, are there more supers you're gonna bring in?" Myra asked.

"Unfortunately, no." Mila said. "Mariverde's mariclavas are spreading quicker than we thought. Which is why we need to get started right away."

"Hold on!" Shmi stood up. "You're telling us you want to send our children in to fight a supervillain? That's insanity! They're children!"

"I agree. I will not have either of my children putting their lives in jeopardy!" Brenda added.

"You don't understand the severity, ladies." Jango said. "I'm reluctant to send children in as well, but unfortunately we couldn't recruit any adult supers because they've all either been captured, clavatized, or killed. Young heroes are one thing Mariverde has had little time to prepare for."

"But, I don't have any powers." Kade said. "I was adopted."

"That doesn't mean you can't help in some way." Mila said. "You don't need to have superpowers to be a hero. Besides, this is an emergency bigger than any of us."

"We still don't want the children to put their lives at risk," said Shmi. "Especially while they're still so young."

"I understand, Mrs. Jinn. But, let me ask you this. Do common criminals usually care if a victim is a child? No. Some would even literally take candy from an innocent little baby. And that's just common criminals with no powers. Super powered villains like Mariverde doesn't care who you are or how young anyone is. If she isn't stopped now, she'll kill or enslave everyone, young and old. Your children may be the galaxy's only hope of being free. The choice is simple. You can all spend the rest of your lives on the run, hiding from a villain who will inevitably find you eventually, or you can join the fight and gain a fighting chance for their futures."

Brenda and Shmi both looked at each other and thought about it. Their children did inherit power from their fathers; having them go in may be the only way they could save them, and prevent Mariverde from doing the same thing or worse to other families.

Both mothers were reluctant, but eventually they came to an agreement.

"What exactly will this mission involve?" Brenda asked.

"First things first, your kids need super suits." Mila said.

"We're getting suits of our own?!" Kara got excited. So did Brenda and Anakin.

"You'll need them to hide your identities from Mariverde and to get in and out unnoticed. But before we make them, we need to test out your powers."
