Narrowed sea green eyes clashed with mindless glowing red. A smile began to form beneath the pools of green, growing wider and wider until it stretched across his face in a crazed manner.
Percy's hands tensed as he focused on tapping into the increasingly familiar well of energy bubbling up inside of him.
He had no idea what this was, but one thing was for sure. After Chaos knows how long of being a helpless puppet for Kronos to torment, he was finally going to get to let out some frustration.
Before he could move, a blur of yellow flashed between them and rolled beneath the monster's legs causing it to turn around in what seemed like surprise.
Percy's eyes widened as he saw it lifting its leg above Wally's downed form.
"Hey ugly!"
The creature barely managed to turn around before a fist connected with its deformed gray face.
Pure power flowed through Percy as his strike connected like a clap of thunder, sending the monster flying back through one of the pillars of the lobby.
Kaldur flew past him with a spiked mace formed out of his sword as his tattoos glowed an electric blue.
Moments before impacting with the monster, its hand shot up and intercepted the blow. It used its tight grip to throw Kaldur like a ragdoll into the stealthily approaching Robin.
The force of the throw sent them both crashing through yet another pillar, causing the room to shake unsteadily. Kaldur was slow to recover from the blow, which seemed to have put Robin out of the fight by the way he was clutching his ribs in pain.
"Heads up big guy!" Wally's shout drew the monster's attention and Percy couldn't help but groan in frustration at the telegraph of his strike.
Whoever these kids were, they had no idea how to fight that was for sure.
With the warning from his attacker, the monster was able to easily grab the speedster and toss him through yet another pillar, which seemed to be all the building could take.
It began to shake violently and Percy's eyes widened in fear, not for himself but for his new comrades.
He saw Wally zipping around dodging debris, while Kaldur seemed to have no problem ignoring the pieces of rubble crashing on him... but Robin.
Percy launched himself over to the boy so fast the ground exploded beneath his feet as he moved, and arrived just in time to smash the giant chunk of concrete falling towards him into a million little pieces.
He fell on top of the smaller boy protectively and grunted as the building collapsed on top of them.
After several excruciating moments he felt the rubble settling and allowed himself to burst free of the debris.
What he saw upon getting out made his heart stop.
The giant had Kaldur in his grasp, his hand wrapped around his head attempting to crush it as the boy desperately flailed around with muffled screams.
Percy's heart pounded in fear as the scene he was shifting flickered.
Kaldur's blonde hair turned black and shaggy... his skin paled as he slimmed down... Nico?
The giants form flickered with eyes of glowing gold and a sadistic smirk.
Percy stumbled back as the scene kept shifting uncontrollably until all he could see was Kronos smiling at him in place of the gray monster actually present.
"ENOUGH!"
Percy's bellow shook the entire area around them, but he didn't notice it at all... he only had eyes for one man.
His eyes began to glow brightly with a poisonous green tint, brimming with power and filled with a look that promised nothing but pain.
The demigod clone shot forward with a speed that would rival Hermes... channeling strength that surpassed even Hercules.
By some stroke of luck, the creature managed to raise an arm and block the blow aimed at his neck.
'Crunch!'
The sickening snap of bones being broken echoed around them followed by an agonizing roar from the gray monster.
Kaldur was tossed to the side and hurriedly scrambled away in fear, but not of the monster that had him in his grasp... no his fear came from the man decimating said monster.
The next blow to its leg resulted in a similar noise from the strike and forced the creature to the ground.
Percy felt the thrill of combat pulsing adrenaline through his veins as he gripped the creatures head and twisted with a battle cry that overtook its screams of pain.
"KRONOS!"
He expected the creature's neck to break from the action, but was only slightly surprised when he ripped its head straight off the body instead.
Blood sprayed over his white suit as he breathed heavily and allowed his grasp over the powers to fade away.
That's when his vision finally snapped back to reality, and he realized what had happened as a sickening feeling welled up in his stomach.
It wasn't from the death he just caused, or the manner in which he caused it. No, what brought this feeling was his fear as he realized the damage the titan had caused to his mind to be able to affect him in such a way.
He pushed the thoughts to the back of his head as his eyes stayed locked on the corpse and one eyebrow quirked in confusion when the monster didn't fade to the familiar golden dust.
"Percy! What the hell!"
Oh... right... things were different here.
Percy turned to the other three and rubbed his neck sheepishly. Robin was glaring daggers at him, while Kaldur seemed conflicted on how to feel. Wally, however, was unable to keep his lunch down this time.
"Oh dude," he groaned out in between heaves, "Not cool at all man."
"I got carried away guys sorry," Percy said with hardly any sincerity, "but I wasn't about to let Aqualad die just to keep this monster alive," he kicked the head beside him as he referenced said creature, and Wally looked ready to lose what little he had left in his stomach.
Robin walked up, still clutching his likely broken ribs, until he was standing right up in Percy's face... or more like chin with the height difference.
"You don't get to make those decisions."
Percy snorted and crossed his arms. "Oh yea? And you do? I hardly feel like taking orders from someone who doesn't have the balls to get the job done."
"No!" Robin shouted angrily, "We get the League to detain them, they go to court, and they serve their time. It's justice, it's fair."
Percy's eyes widened in shock and he began to laugh heartily. The others eyed each other and then glanced back at the demigod that was slowly realizing it wasn't a joke. His demeanor began to change until he stepped forward so his chest was inches from Robin's, and his eyes darkened several shades.
"Where I come from, we didn't have that luxury. There was no calvary coming to whisk the bad guy away when you subdued him. If you put an enemy down and left them breathing, they would make sure you regretted it," Robin flinched at the flood of emotions in his words and took a step back, "You don't know what I've seen kid... and I pray that what you saw me do today was the closest you ever come to it... but if you had seen half the things I had..." He trailed off and the others were surprised to see a tear rolling down his cheek.
"Uhm... speaking of the calvary," Kid Flash spoke up awkwardly.
Percy turned to the sky to see someone flying towards them in... a blue spandex suit with red underwear on the outside and a large 'S' symbol on his chest matching the one on Percy's.
That's when he got a good look at the man. He looked... well the man looked exactly like he did with the exception of his blue eyes and different styled hair.
Percy leaned over to Robin and whispered quietly, "Why's his underwear on outside of his pants?"
If the mans narrowed eyes were any indication, it seemed Percy got his enhanced hearing from being his clone.
He turned away from what he could only assume was, 'Superman,' and glanced around at all the other people flying in around them, until finally a group of non-flyers floated down on a green platform generated by some man with a green lantern logo on his chest.
Superman stepped forward, with a man dressed in all black and a bat symbol on his chest stepping up next to him.
"What happened here?" The man with the bat symbol asked in a deep and gravely voice. His eyes narrowed as he saw the headless corpse by Percy, and even without his enhanced vision he could see his fists tightening in preparation for a fight.
Percy opened his mouth to give a, no doubt smartass, retort when Robin beat him to the punch.
"It was an accident Batman," Percy whipped towards him in shock as the boy stepped forward to address the scowling man, "He didn't know his own strength and did it saving Aqualad's life, along with ours as well."
Batman looked over at Percy's chest with narrowed eyes and his glare hardened.
"Is that what I think it is?"
Percy looked down at the tattered 'S' symbol on his chest and lifted up the torn edge to reveal the whole image.
"I sure as hell hope you're talking about this symbol," Percy spoke up angrily, "cause I'm a person not an it." The other three teens flinched at his tone while Batman gave him what he could only assume was an intimidating stare, causing Percy to roll his eyes in amusement.
"We found him in the lab," Robin spoke up, "He's Superman's clone."
Shocked murmurs rippled through the crowd of masked heroes, while Superman himself looked like he just swallowed a lemon. Percy smirked as he realized he was about to drop an even bigger bomb.
"Well technically just my body is," He spoke up while stretching nonchalantly, "I'm actually a demigod from another universe that the Fates threw into this body."
Another round of even more shocked voices until Batman raised his hand to quiet them down.
"Robin, explain what happened in the lab," He turned back to Percy, "we'll talk later."
Percy mostly zoned out and scanned the crowd as Robin explained everything that went down.
"Everyone besides Aquaman, Wonderwoman, Superman, Flash, and Martian Manhunter leave and take care of this 'blockbuster' creature before the public catches wind of it."
With a nod all the heroes surrounding them left besides the few Batman named.
It didn't take him long to guess who was who.
Aquaman was obviously the one in fishscale styled armor with a trident symbol on his belt buckle.
Flash was the one in nearly an identical suit as Kid Flash just with reversed colors, and Wonderwoman was... well she was the only woman.
Martain manhunter was the only one left and his skin was a dark green so that made it fairly easy to guess as well.
"Manhunter, see if he was lying earlier," Batman spoke authoritatively. Percy watched as the green martian stepped up close to him, and suddenly he felt someone trying to invade his mind.
"WAIT! DON-" Percy's words were cut short as he felt the martian shut him down and bust through the barricades into his head.
All of his memories flashed through his mind in a blurred pattern he couldn't hardly recognize.
Friends and families smiling faces, all of his birthdays growing up, all of the good times he had before camp, and even during his time there.
Flashes of bouncy blonde hair and beautiful gray eyes, along with her smile that always gave him butterflies... and then the bad began to flash through.
The screams... the fires and explosions... tears streaming down friend's faces... kids he considered family laying dead, being cradled by distraught loved ones... but worst of all was the laughter and the golden eyes that accompanied it.
Percy felt the martian leave his mind and stumbled back, harshly wiping away the tears streaming down his face.
"Manhunter! What happened? Are you-" Wonderwoman's concerned words were cut short as the martian shoved her away and clutched his tear-streamed face.
"DON'T TOUCH ME!" He shouted harshly, "Oh god... please just... just give me a minute."
The rest of the heroes all turned to Percy who was glaring at Batman so hard the stoic man actually flinched in surprise.
"Don't ever do that again... none of you." Batman looked ready to attack, probably thinking Percy had done something to the martian, but was stopped by said man resting a hand on his shoulder.
"He speaks the truth Batman, although wisely not all of it." Percy watched them have an exchange that clearly said they would talk later before the black clad man turned his attention back to the group of boys in front of him.
"Cadmus will be investigated," he said with his apparently ever present scowl, "All 52 levels of it, but let's make one thing clear-" He was interrupted by flash zipping up behind him with his arms crossed.
"You should have called." He said sternly, while Percy watched in confusion. He wasn't used to the powerful upperclass actually wanting to assist.
"End results aside," Batman continued, "We are not happy, and this right here," he said while gesturing to the three kid heroes, "won't be happening again." At this point Percy had heard enough.
"You know, while it's refreshing for the big guys to actually try to take some responsibility and handle the problems themselves instead of using their kids as puppets.. you're dead wrong here." Everyone stared at him in shock, besides Barman who let out a low growl.
"You have no say in this, it has nothing to do with-" Batman was once again interrupted, this time by Aqualad.
"Actually it does." His hand clamped down on Percy's shoulder as the other two teens stood behind him as well.
"Aqualad, stand down!" Aquaman commanded firmly.
"Apologies my King," Aqualad said with reverence, but no real apologetic tone, "but I will not." Aquaman looked stunned as his protégé continued speaking, "We did good work here tonight, work that you all trained us to do. With Percy's help we've forged something powerful... something important."
"If this is about your treatment at The Hall, the three of you-" Flash attempted to explain, but Wally quickly stopped him.
"The four of us.. and it's not."
Percy looked at Wally in shock at his inclusion to the group despite just meeting them.
Robin stepped up and gave Batman a firm look.
"We're ready to do what you taught us... or what was the point in teaching us at all?" The older heroes all looked at each other nervously, while Percy gave them all an intimidating glare.
"Why should we let them tell us what to do?" At this he stepped forward so he was right in front if the group of adults, "It's simple really," he said with his signature shit-eating grin. "Get on board... or get out of our way." His last near whisper words sent shivers down their spines, and he was glad to see the other three teens step up behind him while nodding their head in agreement.
Percy let out an impressed whistle as they stood at the center of a large room... which just so happened to be at the center of an even larger mountain.
He was surrounded by the other three teens from before, all wearing casual clothing now. He didn't realize how much he hated spandex until he finally got changed into a pair of jeans, and ironically enough a black superman shirt with a red 'S' emblem in the middle.
"Mount Justice... This place was the original base of the Justice League," Batman explained ever so stoically, "And we're bringing it into commission for your team. If you're going to be doing this, you're doing it on our terms." Percy glanced at the others, who seemed more excited than anything by his words, so he decided not to remark on the fact that he basically told them they'll be their puppets.
"Red Tornado will be living here as your supervisor," Percy watched as the red android behind Batman raised his hand in a simple wave, "and Black Canary's in charge of training... as well as psychological help in case anyone needs it after future missions."
Percy ignored all the eyes darting his way.
"Cadmus proved the bad guys are getting smarter," Flash spoke up, "the League is still handling everything major, but we need someone who can do the covert missions... that's where you five come in."
Again, Percy bit his tongue as he saw the excitement coming from his group, 'covert missions' sounded like they would be little errand boys to him... but then the speedster's words sunk in.
"Wait... five of us?" The others all dawned confused faces as they realized what had been said as well.
Batman simply turned and looked behind the boys, who followed his line of sight.
Martian Manhunter was flying towards them, and beside him was a green-skinned teenage girl with dark red hair.
"Martian Manhunter's niece. Miss Martian," Batman said.
Percy watched Wally shoot Robin a look before whispering to him, "Liking this gig more every minute," he said before cockily stepping in front of the others.
"Welcome aboard, I'm Kid Flash," he said pointing to himself, "and that's Robin," said kid threw up a peace sign, "Aqualad," who bowed his head in greeting, "and last but not least, our very own dimension traveling demigod, Percy." Percy gave her his signature crooked grin, and decided to ignore the blush on her face as her clothes slowly changed colors to a black shirt with a red X going all the way across her body.
"I uhm... I like your shirt." She said shyly. Percy's grin grew wider at her words, while Kid Flash zipped to his side and threw an arm across his shoulder.
"Yea, that was my idea!" Wally said proudly.
Percy rolled his eyes and slipped out from under the redheads shoulder, allowing the team to chat amicably while he turned his attention towards the two League members left in the room.
The majority of them were zipping around in excitement helping to get the mountain back up and running for the new group of super-teens, but Batman and Martian Manhunter were holed up in a corner having what appeared to be a very serious conversation.
"What's up Bats? Double M." Percy spoke with a carefree grin as he approached the duo, who returned his words with a serious stare.
"Martian Manhunter, John, showed me you memories," Batman said abruptly, and at Percy's quickly forming glare he hastily added on, "after much... much persuasion... and when he finally relented I saw why."
Percy glanced back and forth between the two before letting out a sigh.
"How much did you guys see?"
They eyed each other cautiously before John cleared his throat and explained.
"I went in just to confirm your story, with as little invasion as possible, but your mind..." a look of fear was present on his face, "your mind is a horror zone for psychics. That pain overflowing inside of you, the psychological torture you endured it's... well simply put it made me lose control and almost consumed my mind as well." Percy winced at his words while rubbing his neck sheepishly.
"Yea, sorry about that. My life hasn't exactly been sunshine and rainbows huh?" Batman scoffed at his words, but Percy could see the trepidation hidden in his features.
A sort of silence fell on the trio for a minute before Batman broke it.
"Robin lied." He stated simply.
Percy quirked an eyebrow in confusion before slowly realizing what he meant.
"You ripped Blockbusters head off, and as far as they know you did it to the monster they saw not the monster living inside of your head. But Robin lied to me for you... he trusts you, and after what I've seen I'm inclined to believe you are a trustworthy person... although I don't trust a single person on this planet completely." Here the man stepped forward and gave Percy a glare that might have intimidated him before spending an unknown amount of time being tortured by a psychotic titan.
"Just know that if one of your little 'episodes' puts anyone I care for in danger, you won't ever see the light of day again."
Percy gave a quick and serious nod to show he understood before throwing a hand lazily up to his forehead in a mock salute.
"Sir, Yes sir! Although if you're looking for constructive criticism, it would've been much scarier if you threatened to put me six feet under."
Batman brushed past him without a word, and Percy turned to the smirking martian beside him with another shit-eating grin.
"What? Was it something I said?"
A/N: I've decided that for now, the plan is for the pairing to be Percy x Raven, but that's not set in stone yet.
I've had some interesting suggestions in the comments already, but the main one that stuck out to me was to let the story flow naturally and figure it out from there.
I completely agree with that sentiment, but that being said, I do plan on it being a Percy X Raven fic, and as such will need to find a way to subtly begin to introduce her to the plot in preparation.
Disclaimer: I already had most of this typed up to be posted with the first chapter, but decided it would have been way too long for just one chapter. Plus I want to try to follow the Young Justice series a little at least at first, so here's the second chapter lining up with the second episode.
Don't expect chapters to come this quickly from here on out, but I figured I'd go ahead and get this up since it was mostly done
