After the chaotic and somewhat strained bonding session in the forest, the androids decided to try a more peaceful activity: fishing by a tranquil lakeside. Android 16 had suggested it, hoping that the serene atmosphere would help ease the tension among the group. Little did he know, their fishing expedition would be anything but tranquil.
As they settled by the water's edge, Android 16 handed out fishing rods he had crafted himself. Android 17 looked skeptical as he examined his rod.
"You sure these things will work?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"They should suffice for our purposes," replied Android 16, his voice steady.
Android 18 shrugged, flicking her rod casually. "Might as well give it a shot. Not like we have much else to do."
Android 21 peered into the water. "I wonder what kinds of fish inhabit this lake."
"Let's just hope we catch something," muttered Android 17, casting his line out with a flick of his wrist.
For a while, the androids fished in silence, the only sounds being the gentle lapping of the water against the shore. Android 18, growing impatient, leaned back against a tree.
"Any luck yet?" she asked, glancing around.
Android 17 grunted in response, reeling in his line. "Not a single bite. This lake must be empty."
Android 21, her face alight with excitement, suddenly pulled up her rod with surprising force. "I think I've got something!"
The other androids leaned in eagerly as Android 21 reeled in her catch—a small, sparkling fish dangling from her line.
"Well, would you look at that!" exclaimed Android 16, genuinely pleased.
"Nice one," remarked Android 17 with a hint of admiration.
Android 18 smirked. "Well, aren't you the skilled angler?"
Flushed with success, Android 21 gently released the fish back into the water. "I prefer observing them in their natural habitat," she explained.
Encouraged by Android 21's catch, the others redoubled their efforts. Android 16 remained focused and patient, while Android 17's impatience grew with each passing minute.
"This is pointless," grumbled Android 17, glaring at the still water.
"Patience is key, 17," advised Android 16, his gaze fixed on his bobber.
Android 18, on the other hand, seemed more interested in teasing her brother. "Maybe if you complain a little louder, the fish will hear you and swim over."
Android 17 shot her a dark look, but before he could retort, there was a sudden commotion by the shore. Android 18 had managed to hook something big.
"I got something! It's a whopper!" she exclaimed, struggling to reel in her catch.
Android 17 and Android 21 hurried over to assist, while Android 16 watched with amusement.
After a brief struggle, Android 18 managed to pull her prize onto the shore—a battered old boot.
The androids burst into laughter, even Android 18 joining in. "Well, I guess that's one way to catch footwear," she quipped.
As the sun began to set, the androids realized they hadn't caught any edible fish. However, the failed fishing trip had brought them closer in unexpected ways. They shared stories, traded jokes, and even managed to forget their differences for a moment.
"We may not have caught much, but it was still enjoyable," admitted Android 21 with a smile.
"I suppose it wasn't a complete disaster," conceded Android 17, a rare hint of warmth in his voice.
Android 18 shrugged. "I've had worse outings."
