After their eventful fishing trip, the androids decided to embark on a road trip—an opportunity for a change of scenery and perhaps more bonding. Android 17 eagerly volunteered to be the driver, much to Android 18's immediate dissatisfaction.
"You seriously want him behind the wheel?" Android 18 asked incredulously, eyeing Android 17 with suspicion.
Android 17 shrugged nonchalantly. "What's the big deal? I'm a perfectly capable driver."
"Capable of putting me to sleep, maybe," retorted Android 18, rolling her eyes.
Android 16 intervened. "Why don't we take turns? That way, everyone gets a chance to drive."
Android 17 frowned but begrudgingly agreed. "Fine. But I'm starting."
And so, Android 17 took the driver's seat, and the androids set off on their road trip. However, Android 18's dissatisfaction quickly escalated as she realized Android 17's definition of driving meant sticking strictly to the speed limit and following every traffic rule to the letter.
"Come on, 17, pick up the pace!" complained Android 18 from the backseat.
"We're not in a race, 18. Safety first," replied Android 17, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
Android 18 huffed in annoyance. "You're going slower than a snail. Let someone else take over."
Android 17's grip on the steering wheel tightened visibly. "I said I'm driving. If you don't like it, tough luck."
Android 16, sensing the rising tension, attempted to diffuse the situation. "Perhaps we can switch drivers at the next stop."
But Android 18 was persistent. "I want to see 16 drive. He's probably more interesting behind the wheel."
Android 17's jaw clenched, and he abruptly pulled over to the side of the road. "Fine! Have it your way!"
Android 18 exchanged a glance with Android 21, both clearly amused by Android 17's sudden outburst.
Android 16, now in the driver's seat, adjusted the mirrors and smoothly merged back onto the road. The atmosphere inside the vehicle immediately lightened as Android 16 took a more relaxed approach to driving.
"See? Was that so hard?" teased Android 18, leaning back comfortably.
Android 16 remained focused on the road but couldn't hide a small smile. "It's important to adapt to different situations."
As the road trip continued, Android 16's driving style proved to be a refreshing change. The androids chatted amiably, enjoying the passing scenery. Android 17, while still a bit sullen, seemed to appreciate the break from driving.
"I have to admit, you're not as boring behind the wheel as I thought," remarked Android 18, surprising even herself with the compliment.
Android 16 chuckled softly. "Thank you, 18. I'm glad you think so."
Android 21, ever observant, interjected with curiosity. "Do you all have a destination in mind, or are we simply enjoying the journey?"
"We could stop for food," suggested Android 17, his mood visibly lifting.
"Food sounds good to me," agreed Android 18 with a smirk.
