4/18/2024-Chapter rewritten for quality and continuity. It's now following a few graphic novel plot points, but it won't be too big a deal if you haven't read it. If you're a new reader, welcome to the story! I've been writing it slowly but surely over the last many years, and now it's the best it's ever been. I hope you enjoy! Returning readers, thanks for coming back and rereading these redone chapters! The timeline is a bit unclear in the show, so going off graphic novel knowledge, we're assuming Phantom Planet occurred in 2007. I'll go into it later, don't worry.

Disclaimer: I do not own Danny Phantom. I only own the OCs.

Prologue

Six years after the Disasteroid incident, humans have found ways to stop the ghosts. With technological breakthroughs, they found out how to stop all the portals to the ghost world. Massive towers throughout the globe transmit ghost energy at a specific frequency that makes ghost portals close before they can even open, utterly shutting out the Ghost Zone from Earth entirely. The threat of ghosts was ultimately forgotten. The lack of ghosts meant that there was no need for a hero to protect the Earth. Danny Phantom was ultimately forgotten about. He kept his powers, but never used them. He married Sam Manson, and a year after the portals were blocked, they had a child. The world seemed to be back to normal.

2014

Sam was holding her child for the first time. "She's beautiful," she said.

Danny was kneeling on the side of the hospital bed, stroking the crying baby's head. He felt the thin, soft hair. "Can I hold her?" He asked.

Sam carefully handed the baby to Danny. "I think we should name her Heather," she said.

"I thought you always wanted a Lilith?"

"Not her. After how hard this has been, she deserves a meaningful name. Heather flowers symbolize good luck and protection. She deserves that in a name."

"It's perfect," Danny said. He held Heather close to him. He felt a tiny chill go down his spine as he picked her up. He couldn't help but notice that a tiny patch of the baby's thin hair wasn't dark blonde; it was white. A spark of worry flashed through his mind, afraid his ghostlyness caused some problem. But she was healthy, so he did his best not to worry about it.

Somewhere in the ghost zone...

"Sir, I'm noticing some fluctuations in the data similar to portal energy, but... wrong. Like portals are opening for milliseconds at a time, and with the wrong energy signatures." A ghost pulled out a paper from a printer.

A large, fiery ghost walked up to him. "Find out what it is. Take a research team to that location and report back to me."

The small ghost saluted his boss. "Yes sir. I'll get right on it."

"Be quick about it. Portals shouldn't be opening at all anymore." The boss stepped out, looking calm on the outside but his emotion betrayed by the ground burning with every footstep, a sure sign of the anger burning inside him. If things were going wrong, he would be blamed. This was something that would have to be monitored.

Chapter One: A New School

2026

Heather just finished up brushing her black hair and looked at herself in the mirror. Her bright blue eyes seemed to glow with her excitement. She ran downstairs, grabbed her backpack, and stuffed her light grey hoodie inside, in case the classrooms were cold. She clipped her lunch box onto her backpack and was about to go out the door when her mother Sam gently stopped her.

"I'm so excited for you!" Sam said to Heather. They hugged. "Go have a great first day! Tell me all about it when you get home!"

"I know, I know, you love hearing about it," Heather said sarcastically but with a smile. "Bye!" She went out the door and went on the way.

Heather stopped at the corner to get her best friend, Alex who was patiently waiting for her... while moving around the corner in roller skates.

Heather smiled. "Alex, I get you've been back on your roller skating obsession the past few weeks, but you can't just go to school with those!"

"I want to be impressive!" He said. "If you want to be popular, you've got to be cool." Alex did a spin trick on his skates. He had been roller skating on and off for as long as Heather could remember, and he was a master at it. However, even the masters screw up. Alex got tripped up by a pebble and nearly fell, with Heather catching him.

"Take those things off, the school won't allow it," Heather said. "And I know you like attention, but roller skating just isn't that cool!"

Alex shook his head. "Not until we actually get to school. Skating is more fun than walking."

After the walk, Alex put some normal shoes on. They stopped in front of the door of Amity Park Junior High.

Alex took a deep breath. "Welcome to seventh grade. It's a new school. Who are you gonna be?"

Heather tried to hide her white stripe of hair behind the rest of her black hair. It was a common ground for teasing. "I know I'm not gonna be skunk girl again. Hopefully I'll be background character girl. Standing out sucks."

"You are too shy," Alex said. "One day, I'll stand out and be remembered for something. I'll finally be cool." He sat on a bench and switched to regular shoes, but not without tying his skates to the outside of his backpack to ensure everyone knew he could roller skate."

"Maybe I just live in the real world," Heather joked. Anyways, we should start heading to our homerooms, school is starting soon. Lets meet up at break, we'll share schedules. I share homeroom with Raymond, so I'll catch up with him then." They stepped through the doors into the busy halls of the school.

Alex nodded. "I hope we get lots of classes together. I can't wait! I'll see you at break!" He went left and Heather went right.

Heather followed the map she was given in orientation to her assigned homeroom. The rows of seats were assigned in alphabetical order by last name. She was in the middle of the room, but went to Raymond who was already in his seat in back. He was her oldest friend, as his dad was her dad's best friend since they were kids. So that meant Heather and Ray were best friends for as long as they could remember as well.

She had time to speak to him. He was distracted with his phone, so she snuck up behind him and looked over his shoulder. He still didn't notice, even as she got closer and closer. So she spoke right into his ear, "Nice weather we're having!"

Raymond yelped and jumped right out of his seat, and Heather immediately started laughing. Everyone else in the room turned to look, many of them laughing as well.

He got up and immediately investigated his phone, luckily undamaged. "Heather, why would you do that?!" He exclaimed a little too loudly.

"Because it's hilarious," Heather stated between bouts of laughter. "Sorry, Ray, you were an easy target!"

"Man, I think that's gonna leave a bruise," Raymond said, rubbing his shoulder. "Anyways, what's up? Besides being sneaky as a ghost, of course."

She tried not to react to the saying. It was a common one, but she did not want one mention of ghosts around her, as she did not want anyone to suspect she was the grandchild of Amity Park's most foolish ghost hunters. "Well, I met with Alex of course. We'll be meeting at break to share our schedules."

Ray opened his schedule app, took a look at the entries, and grinned as he made a new entry. "Perfect, I haven't planned anything for break. We'll meet up then. But I've got plans for lunch, so you'll be going it alone."

The bell rang, and everyone started going to their desks. "I don't know how you managed to make plans on the first day, but we'll figure it out later. See you at break!" She hurried to her desk, and waited for the day to begin.

Ghost zone

"The fluctuations in the data have been the same for twelve years. At this point, I don't think we need to worry."

"You do need to worry!" The large ghost yelled, breathing fire out of his nose in anger. "Fluctuations are fluctuations. You can't just ignore this! The field scientists have no information on this. For all we know, what's happening is big, and it's not good!"

Suddenly, the graphing machine beeped. The small ghost looked at the data that was printed. "This is not good."

"You jinxed it," the large ghost growled, his lab coat smoking as his inner fire burned hotter. "Now you see what I mean. Go check it out, Yoltrun. You're a great scout, and as to not risk too many ghosts, you'll have to go it alone. Find out what's going on. Then we'll make plans to fix it."

4/18/24 Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy! I've redone the first few chapters, and while they are a bit slower than the later stuff they are far better than they used to be. I started this as a high school kid with hardly any writing skill, and while I'm still not the best, at least my current style is actually not that bad. I'm way better at actually planning out my stories instead of having loose plot points that I write until I get to. This story was quite messy for a while so I have fixed that!
