While Disney sequels have a bad reputation, in general, this is one time I felt they made a great case for an additional story-like Cinderella: A Twist in Time, The Lion King 2 and The Little Mermaid 2-because it explores Belle and Adam's motives and struggles in a meaningful way so that you get to know them a little better than you did in the official film. Most people complain that this movie emphasizes the beast's unsavory traits too much but I think showing his wild temper and controlling attitude-especially in the flashback scene-is a good thing because it helps you understand why the enchantress turned him into what was reflected in his heart, like The Picture of Dorian Gray-and therefore his need for redemption is more urgent. Also giving him an evil counsellor who pretends to be his friend makes for a great conflict because it shows where some of his mind poisoning came from all the years he was a beast. Adam and Forte share a dynamic much like Othello and Iago and by conquering his deadliest enemy, he conquers the dark side of himself as well. This experience brings wisdom to the beast and draws him closer to Belle and therefore his eventual restoration in the end of the official film feels more real because of a previous trial he had to undergo before meeting Gaston./span/p

Of course, a thousand good deeds could not wash away his past cruelty and vindictiveness, but he wanted to show Belle, in the only way he knew how, he was willing to embark upon the path of healing and redemption./p

But something told her it was best to leave him alone at a moment like this. Forte was a dark and gloomy chapter of his life and he was putting it to rest at last./p

While Disney sequels have a bad reputation, in general, this is one time I felt they made a great case for an additional story-like Cinderella: A Twist in Time, The Lion King 2 and The Little Mermaid 2-because it explores Belle and Adam's motives and struggles in a meaningful way so that you get to know them a little better than you did in the official film. Most people complain that this movie emphasizes the beast's unsavory traits too much but I think showing his wild temper and controlling attitude-especially in the flashback scene-is a good thing because it helps you understand why the enchantress turned him into what was reflected in his heart, like The Picture of Dorian Gray-and therefore his need for redemption is more urgent. Also giving him an evil counsellor who pretends to be his friend makes for a great conflict because it shows where some of his mind poisoning came from all the years he was a beast. Adam and Forte share a dynamic much like Othello and Iago and by conquering his deadliest enemy, he conquers the dark side of himself as well. This experience brings wisdom to the beast and draws him closer to Belle and therefore his eventual restoration in the end of the official film feels more real because of a previous trial he had to undergo before meeting Gaston./span/p
