"Hm, jello, huh?"

"Yeah, the blue is my favourite." Sam smiled as she picked up the dish, her expression briefly changing from the annoyance she typically showed him.

He never really cared for jello. Despite what people said, the colours didn't taste all that different. There was something vaguely creepy in the way it moved, and in the noise it made when you stuck a spoon in. He mostly tried not to think about it, but there were always the times someone else decided to eat it in front of him. It wasn't that he wanted to stick around and watch, but they were mid-conversation, so he had to sit there as the person across from him decided that of all the choices, jello was the way to go.

Instead of answering, instead of even paying attention to him, she scooped a spoonful of wobbly jello into her mouth. Her eyes lit up like every step taken today had been lived so she could reach this moment. She was looking at him across the table, and the full force of her delight struck him. Something as simple as jello could wipe away everything else. Even mad at him, she was still happy.

It figured that out of all the stupid things to eat that they could have brought to Atlantis, they picked jello, a whole sticky rainbow glittering weirdly in the light. He was almost about to pass on dessert, but there was a dish of the blue stuff right at the end. It brought to mind an argument that he no longer remembered what was said, and beautiful eyes lighting up with happiness.

He brought the dish of blue jello over to the table, watching the way it wobbled as he spooned some out. He never really cared for jello. Except blue. Blue was his favourite.
