Daphne stood in the middle of a small clearing, an unsure look on her face. She had agreed to go camping with Harry, but her initial excitement had faded, and she was now filled with apprehension. The wilderness was an unknown, her parents had never taken her or her sister camping. The thought of Cyrus Greengrass out in the wilderness caused an amused smile to grow. The Greengrass family were resort people where the staff catered to their every whim.
While Harry unpacked their equipment Daphne debated whether she should help but knew that she'd be a nuisance more than a assistant.
"I'm going to head down to the water," Daphne said when she spotted a sliver of blue water in the distance.
"Alright," Harry said with a nod, "shouldn't take too long to get us set up," he said with a beaming grin.
Daphne wandered down the dirt path to the nearby lake. The water looked inviting with a shimmering surface that was so still it looked like glass. She debated for a moment before she made a decision and slipped off her shoes, sat down on the rock-face and dipped her feet into the cool water. She sighed in contentment and leaned back on her hands.
As she sat there, she was unsure how much time had passed but she had started to feel a light mist in the air. She worried that it was about to rain but while it was overcast, the clouds were still light enough.
The area that surrounded her was quiet with just the faint sounds of crickets in the distance, so she was startled by a sudden poke in her back. She gasped and turned quickly, almost losing her balance on the rocks.
"Why would you do that?" Daphne whined, heart heartrate slowing back to normal.
She looked up at Harry who stood before her, a wide grin on his face, his eyes sparkling with joy, and a large stick held firmly in his grasp.
"Sorry, couldn't resist," he said, then he glanced down at his wristwatch, "You know, if we want to get a hike in before dinner, we should head out soon."
Daphne looked up at the sky and frowned, "Are we actually going hiking?" she asked, "It's raining."
"It's drizzling at the most. Come on, a little water won't hurt us."
Daphne felt the soft rain as it hit her shoulders and was a little put off by the idea of potentially getting wet and muddy, but Harry reached down and took her hand. He gently pulled her up and turned her away from the lake.
"Trust me, Daph. You'll love it. It's part of the adventure."
"You're lucky you're cute," Daphne muttered and pressed a soft kiss to Harry's cheek before she was led back to their tent.
When they got back to the clearing, she saw the bright orange tent was set up and a small fire pit had been built with nearby rocks. She unzipped the entrance and ducked down to step inside.
"Oh man," she whispered when she saw the small, cramped inside with their bags on one side and a two-person sleeping bag on the other. In all her worries, she had somehow forgotten that they would be sleeping on the ground.
"Hurry up, Daphne! Don't want to lose the sunshine!"
"What sunshine?" Daphne grumbled as she pulled her raincoat out of her bag and slipped back out of the tent, "The things I do for love," she whispered to herself when she saw Harry near the edge of the clearing almost bounding in excitement.
