The evening was calm, birds continued to chirp while the sky turned dark. Soft yellow light glowed through the windows of Ms. Toriel's home, making the cold evening air feel a little warmer.
Inside, up the stairs, and the first room on the right, Kris laid on their bed. Their room was incredibly bare. Besides a dresser and a birdcage, there was absolutely nothing there. It was almost like a prison cell, bare walls, simple bed, nothing interesting. It was just how they loved it.
Kris laid upon the bed, their eyes red from over an hour of crying. At this point the tears had stopped, they were just rotting in place, haunted from the events of the day. It wasn't even just today, this bullying had been happening for a few months. In the past week or so it had gotten even worse, with today setting a new record.
WHY ME WHY ME WHY FUCKING ME? WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS?
Their sadness had turned into a furious rage. They began hyperventilating. Their chest moved up and down rapidly, as they began to stand up.
WHY FUCKING ME?
They internally shrieked as they stomped over to the only movable object in the room. They stopped and
*WHAM!*
They kicked the birdcage with thousands of pounds of pent up rage. Unfortunately, the rage didn't cancel out the pain. Instantly, they fell to the ground and grabbed their foot.
FUCK OW FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
It hurt a whole hell of a lot. Hot tears began to flow down their face again as pain coursed through their body. A rapid pulsing sensation began to grow in their foot. It felt like-
"Kris? What was that?" Kris' agony was interrupted by their concerned mother.
"O-oh umm I just hit my f-foot on the bed. They replied, fighting back pain and tears.
"Alright honey. Oh, and by the way, I left some food in the microwave since you didn't come out to eat. I made pasta and meatballs. And don't worry, there's no snails in it, if that's why you didn't come out, teehee!" She spoke so tenderly it felt like her words were hugging you.
"O-okay, thanks mom."
"Goodnight sweetie!"
"Goodnight." They said, without emotion.
…
Fuck
Almost no one ever went into the woods that surrounded Hometown. However, the woods were what Susie called home. Her spot was just in front of the church, an area no one went to anyways. Just a few steps in and there was a nice flat space, albeit a bit small. In this area, Susie only had a handful of belongings. A sleeping bag, a lantern, and a half-eaten box of cereal. She really had nothing. She had no parents, no friends, no love, nothing. She smiled to herself.
Heh, home sweet home. What day is it again, Wednesday? Two more days until the weekend. I mean, I could just stop going to school. Maybe, I mean, I only go in hopes I make a friend. Wait what? That's not true, I don't want friends, I just want myself. Yeah, just me, myself and I. Yeah… heh…
She snapped out of her thoughts and proceeded to bed. I mean, there really wasn't much else to do after school besides skipping rocks for hours. Sleep was quite difficult for the dragon. She was tired, sure, but it would take hours of tossing and turning for her to actually doze off.
…
She laid alone with a few wandering thoughts.
…
…
…
…
A small tear appeared in her eye.
More tears began to run down their cheek. They couldn't sleep. They could never sleep. At least for the past few months they couldn't. They wanted to do something about it, anything.
That time was now.
They sharply stood up from bed and began to slither out of their room and down the steps, making sure to make as little noise as possible. It was deep into the night, around 1:30, Toriel was well asleep by now. After a painfully long trip downstairs they made it to the kitchen, more specifically, the utensils drawer. A supernatural grin appeared on Kris' face as they pried it open. They reached for the sharpest, longest knife they had. They found a sizable steak knife.
Perfect.
Their grin widened as they flipped the cutter around in their hand, towards the opposite arm. Upon getting the blade close, they couldn't move it any further. Although they had been thinking about this for a long time, they had never actually done it before. Knives are sharp, they hurt.
However, Kris pushed through.
The tip of the blade made contact with their skin, and they dug in slightly. They grimaced from the jolt of pain. It felt so great and so awful. After a few seconds of hesitation, they continued, dragging the point from the base of their hand to the middle of their arm. A solid red line had formed in the wake of the knife. A line that was a bit too deep.
"FUCK ow" They soft-shouted through gritted teeth.
The cutter fell out of their hand and clanged onto the kitchen tile. This seemed to not register in their head as their right hand tried to relieve their now bloody arm. It hurt like hell. The feeling of sick joy had far run out. All that was left was a pulsing red cut and the blood pouring out. They didn't really know what to do. Applying pressure clearly wasn't working.
Water?
Certainly an idea. They rushed their arm over to the sink and let the water flood onto their hand. It really wasn't helping, but it at least-
"Kris?" Toriel was standing in the kitchen door frame, clearly awoken by their noise.
Kris froze in place. This happening was absolutely not on their mind.
"Kris are you okay?" She asked, seeming quite concerned at her child's lack of movement.
…
"Y-yeah I just… I-I was just washing my hands before I had those leftovers." They spoke awkwardly and timidly
"At 1:44 in the morning?"
"Y-yeah."
Toriel chuckled, "Well, I guess it's best you ate at some point, rather than never."
Kris nodded.
…
OH MY GOD.
Their heart stopped beating for a moment.
THE KNIFE
Indeed, the knife with a solid amount of their blood on it was right at their feet, Just outside of their mother's vision. They could feel its presence beam around the room like a flare just went off.
"Do you want me to heat it up for you?" Toriel asked, while beginning to step towards the secretly bloody child.
"N-no!" They cried too loud
Toriel took an instinctive step back.
"I-I mean I can get it m-mom. I'm gonna be an adult soon, I should be getting my own stuff." They tried to add as calmly as possible.
"Alright, I trust you sweetie. Just make sure you don't heat it up too long." She responded, still in slight shock at Kris' sudden almost-yell.
"Y-yeah mom, I know"
"Okay honey, goodnight." She said calmly, while kneeling down to give her child a hug.
"Goodnight mom." They replied, accepting the hug.
They embraced each other for a good few seconds. For Kris, it felt extra long for some reason. In a good way, of course.
…
After Toriel's footsteps had faded, Kris leaned over the counter and almost began sobbing. Everything about that situation had been horrible.
After a series of deep breaths, they gained enough strength to pick up and clean the bloody knife. This had not been a good first session. However, a part of them actually did somehow enjoy it. It's as if the part that initially liked it had come back, and it wanted more. However that would have to wait, It was well beyond time for them to go to bed.
After a short hike up the stairs, they arrived back at their room and to their bed. Enough time to get about 5 hours of sleep.
God this life fucking sucks.
The clock's hand seemed to move slower and slower by the second. There were only minutes left in the school day, but they were dragging on like staring at paint dry. Mrs. Alphys' class was actually incredibly boring, believe it or not. Most of the work they did were just paper assignments or reading passages. Sure it wasn't the most difficult work, but God was it monotonous.
At this point no one was even doing any work, everyone was just waiting for the clock to tell them to leave. Especially Kris, who had been head down for the past hour or so. Sleep had been quite difficult for them to come by as of late, so this was a normal thing for them.
*RINGGGG*
Well, there it was. Everyone quickly got up and began to shuffle out. Even Kris was getting up, albeit slowly.
"Hey."
Kris froze in place. Everyone seems to leave this classroom so fast.
"Come on, it's Thursday." She spoke, very authoritative.
Kris and Susie had an "agreement" where Kris would give her money every Thursday. Of course, it was incredibly one-sided.
Kris reached into a pocket and pulled out a small wad of cash. Susie instantly snatched it out of their hands and began counting it. Her expression grew angrier and angrier as she approached the end.
"37 DOLLARS? THAT'S IT?"
"I-I'm sorry S-Susie, it's all I have." They spoke, genuinely scared
"Bullshit that's all you have!"
"I-I promise! C-check my pockets!"
She sighed and checked their pockets, quite forcefully. Indeed, there was no more money.
"Goddamnit Kris I need more money. If you don't have at least $50 more by TOMORROW, I'll eat your FUCKING face off. You got it?"
They had no choice but to nod.
"Hmph" Susie spoke, before shoving them into a desk and walking away.
Their head collided with the hard trim of the desk, and stung like hell.
"Fuck ow" They spoke to themself, rubbing the injured spot.
While this didn't feel good, at least they weren't unconscious like last time. They slowly began to get up, head slightly spinning. After a few stumbled steps, they managed to regain themself and started to walk out of the hellhole that was Mrs. Alphys' classroom.
*BVVVMMMM*
Their phone began to vibrate in their pocket. They whipped it out to check who it could be. Random number? Scam caller? Mom?
Incoming Call: Noelle Holiday
Phew
"H-hey Noelle." They answered, without much enthusiasm.
"Hey Kris! How are you?" She said, with much enthusiasm.
"O-oh I'm uhh… good. How about y-you."
"I'm pretty good aswell thanks! I just, I wanted to ask if you could come over to the lake, So we can talk in person, you know?
"Y-yeah sure. I can be over in a few minutes.
"Awesome! I'll see ya there Krismas!"
"B-bye."
The call hung up abruptly.
Noelle had been Kris' best friend for the better half of a decade. Before they grew apart, they would do so much together. Talk at the lake, play video games, walk around town, really anything there was to do in this town, they did it. However, as Kris became more secluded, they stopped hanging out as often. Within the past month they had only been together twice. They were honestly surprised it took Noelle so long to have this conversation.
