Chapter nine:
Kaoru pauses as he looks to the place that he had called home for so long. He feels nervous about doing this even with Haruhi and Kyouya here to back him up. He feels like he has to this even though it hurts to think about doing this to someone he has loved for so long. He believes that it is the right step for him to take and he is going to follow through with it. He has to think of himself more than about what the public will think about what he does. He glances to Kyouya who places an assuring hand on his back. He takes a breath giving a small nod that he is ready to do this. Well as ready as he will ever be to do this.
The three head inside and are greeted by the servants.
Daiki heads over from the living room as if having expected their arrival.
Kaoru approaches him and sands before him. "I believe you suspected this of happening. However we are splitting up." He sees Daiki nod his head. "I will be fully pulling out every part of my family. This will also be a quiet divorce. Nothing public and you will have to sign something to say that you won't share any information about it."
"Whatever you want." Daiki dips his head in understanding. "I am sorry for what I did to you."
For a moment Kaoru has thoughts about if he really needs to do this. He still finds some love inside of him for Daiki. He mentally shakes it off telling himself that he needs to try to remove himself from this narrative. He needs to do this. He needs to take himself out of this narrative making people not know how he reacted to Daiki breaking his heart.
"Take good care of the kids for me. I doubt that they will forgive me for what I have done. I have come to terms with that so I will let them go so they can have a better life." Daiki mentions and Kaoru nods softly.
"I will." Kaoru promises. He hopes that things will go smoothly with the public and everything. He also hopes that Daiki will keep his word about not saying anything to the public about their divorce to keep things private.
After that visit…
Kaoru tries to go to a fashion show with Hikaru only to be swarmed by news cameras.
"How do you feel after learning the news that your husband cheated?"
"What will your family's next move be?"
"How have you and your husband approached what he did?"
Kaoru feels a bit overwhelmed by all of the questions about his private life. He is used to people wanting to know about hidden parts of his life because of the money and influence his family has. He just never had to answer to anything that is like this with the divorce and reason for it still hitting his heart hard.
Hikaru steps forward to put himself between the cameras and his brother. "Leave him alone! They are dealing with it in private. This is none of your business."
Quickly the security that they brought with them takes the reporters away and Hikaru takes Kaoru to the back secure room.
"You okay?" Hikaru asks Kaoru checking him over and Kaoru feels relaxed at his brother fussing over him.
"Yeah. Thank you for that." Kaoru shares a smile with his brother.
"Anytime brother." Hikaru pats his twin's back. "Come. I want to show you some of the pieces that I will put on display for this show." He brings Kaoru to the dressing room to show off his work.
Kaoru is quite happy for the distraction. He is sure that things will be alright in the end. He just truly needs to give it all some time to heal and let things settle down with the news publications about the topic.
…
It has been a few years since the split.
Kayson and Rowan have remained close to Kaoru and Hikaru who raise them together.
Kaoru sometimes wears his ring and sometimes doesn't in order to keep reporters guessing. He also doesn't plan on dating for a good long while if ever again. He is at least glad that the reporters have moved on with only occasional attempts to figure out what is going on between him and his divorced ex.
Daiki, according to the news at least since Kaoru doesn't check in with him in any way, has lost a lot of money and partnerships with his family company. He however is managing to not lose everything as he just works hard to keep everything from sinking into nothing. He has kept away from Kaoru and refuses to tell anyone what has happened between him and Kaoru as he promised.
Kaoru is just glad that the part of his life is over and he continues to just move on. He helps Hikaru out as much as he can with their family business.
Kayson is also showing more interest in the family business so the twins have started to help train him in parts of the family business.
Rowan seems to be still figuring herself out so they are giving her space to do so.
Kaoru feels much more happy in his current life. He can't wait to see what the next many years might bring for him and his family. He truly hopes that it is only good things that is up ahead for those that he cares about with Daiki not included in that. He couldn't care less what happens to Daiki.
Daiki brought whatever happens on himself with his actions so he needs to deal with it on his own.
Kaoru smiles while watching his son have shining eyes as Hikaru talks about his favorite fabric to use on the more heavily detailed fashion pieces; with Kayson listening very closely to what he has to say. He sees Kayson turn to him when Hikaru finishes. "Why don't I show you what fabric I really like?" He offers with Kayson nodding in excitement. He brings his son over to his favorite fabric since one side is quite soft. He may like it better than Hikaru's more silky fabric however he knows that if used right then they both can make beautiful pieces of clothing. He is just happy to have Kayson interested in the family business and designing of clothes for every occasion.
The end.
