Chapter One

Location: Blue Valley, Nebraska, United States

Another day came and went by over the small and humble little town, the few people walked about along the streets in their merry ways while cars and lorries drove on by. Atop one of the taller buildings, standing high and proud was a late teenage woman, with long hair of natural blonde, eyes of deep blue, and lips of crimson-red along with a somewhat tall stature and a slim build. She wore a blue long-sleeved halter-top embedded with a white star symbol on her chest as well as a few more smaller stars patterned down her arms, matched only by her domino mask that covered her entire forehead, also featuring the same simple star symbol, and her skin-tight shorts with white stripes on the sides and bottom hems.

Around her hips and buckled to her shorts was a simple red belt matched by her rolled gloves and laced boots. Lastly, kept firmly tight in the grip of both her hands was a long golden rodded staff of six feet with its tip vaguely shaped like the beak of an eagle. This 'stargirl' continued to watch over this place that she would call her home, to serve and protect the innocent people from any and all forms of injustice, no matter how small or subtle.

"Hey, leave me alone!" A seemingly youthful-sounding male voice could heard from a distance with a clearly distressed tone, instantly catching the superheroine's attention.

The Stargirl immediately held onto her staff and flew down as if it were a witch's staff, following to the source of where that voice may've come from. She then made it to the nearby secondary school, seeing some of the students already leaving, but clearly none were whom she was looking for. Stargirl turned a corner around the school to the backends, before she spied from beside a brick wall. There just in the car park, she could see a preteen boy with short scruffy red hair and innocent turquoise eyes, wearing a simple cyan T-shirt, magenta shorts, and grey slip-on trainers. Stargirl could see he was being ganged up by two somewhat older teenagers, one a butch female and the other a scrawny male, but both wearing punkish clothes in shades of leathery black and denim grey.

"Go away!" The voice cried out again, definitely coming from this boy.

"You first, ya little freak", the gruff female bully retorted with a threat and an insult. "Nobody wants you here".

"Yeah, Kryptonians should go back to where they came from", the nasal male bully added.

"Oi!" Stargirl dashed in from her hiding place, took a stand, and yelled, catching the two bullies' attention. "Don't you have anything better to do than picking on little boys?"

"Why don't you mind your own business?" The female bully pulled up a fist, as if to pose a threat.

"Oh I would..." Stargirl paused as she posed with her staff. "...If you mind yours as well!"

With clenched fists and scowling teeth, the bullies charged at Stargirl, only to regret such a choice when she spun her staff, causing the two to trip over to fall face-first to the ground. She then ran over and in front of the boy to shield him from the bullies as they shoddily yet eventually got back up to their feet. Seeing the red, white, and blue heroine standing with a sneaky smile and look in her eyes and protecting the boy behind her, the two punks threw a few grunts of frustration before taking a hasty break for it, quickly staggering off and away.

"Thank you", the boy walked over and greeted.

"Don't mention it", Stargirl patted the boy's shoulder. "What's your name?"

"Jay-Sun", the boy revealed his name.

"Jay-Sun, that's a nice name", Stargirl complimented. "I know you're probably still a bit new to Earth and its customs, but for every one person who may reject those for being different, there are a lot more willing to accept and offer a helping hand. On planet Earth, anyone should be welcome enough, and feel welcome enough".

And with that, Stargirl gave a quick smile to the Kryptonian boy before she headed off and took flight once more to the sky on her golden staff, leaving him to look on with a smile of his own and eyes wide with awe and reverence. The news of surviving Kryptonians immigrating to Earth and adjusting to it still fresh in her memory, Stargirl knew that some would find it more difficult than others to merely fit in. But she also knew that they'd still deserve as much a chance, not unlike the Man of Steel and Tomorrow himself.

Meanwhile however, unbeknownst to her or anyone else for that matter, someone else caught sight of her in mid-flight from behind the shadows, spying and observing carefully with sinister intention. Donned in a thinly-armoured black suit and antennaed helmet with a few yellow trims and stripes, this figure opened up two pairs of insect-like wings from his back and he too took flight.
