For Bad things Happen Bingo: "Disowned by Family". Lloyd might have defeated the Overlord, but he also killed his father. And the others are not happy about that.
"Where there is light there will always be shadow!"
"Unless my light is bright enough!"
Lloyd woke up on the ground, dirt all over his face and clothes. He sat up and brushed it off, while taking in his surroundings.
"What happened?"
He recalled fighting the Overlord, and his father. Oh yeah. He defeated the Overlord. He killed his father.
But he had won, and Ninjago was safe. That was all that mattered in the long run.
He looked around, and couldn't see anyone. As he tries to clear his head of all the thoughts that clouded it, he vaguely heard someone sobbing. Finally, a sign of life. But why was this person crying? The Overlord was gone, and everyone could be happy now.
He followed the faint weeping noises, until they got clearer and louder enough for him to recognise the voice. It was his mother, Misako.
Lloyd suddenly panicked even more than before and resumed running. Then he saw the other Ninja come into sight. They looked as if they were back to normal, but their expressions were grim.
They were circling around something, so Lloyd called out to them as he approached them.
"Cole! Kai! Jay! Zane! What's happening?"
None of them reacted, let alone responded. They didn't even seem to realise that Lloyd had reached them. He peeked in between Cole and Kai to see what they were looking at and it horrified him.
It was Misako, kneeling in front of Garmadon who was bleeding out and struggling to breathe. She was crying at the sight of her dying husband. Wu stood in front of them, watching the scene with sadness.
"Garmadon! No… this can't be happening!"
"S-sorry…"
She leaned closer and cried even harder. "What am I gonna do…"
"Wu… Wu will take care of you…" with that, he took a shaky breath as more blood came out through his multiple wounds.
"Mom!" Lloyd pushed aside Cole and Kai and kneeled down to her level.
She instantly turned her head to look at Lloyd in the eye, her face red as the blood that stained the ground and rivers of tears streaming down her face. "Look at what you've done, you monster!"
Lloyd, who himself had started crying at his father, was taken aback by his mother's outburst. "What?"
"Are you blind!" She was fuming. "You killed your father! You murderer!"
He looked at Garmadon, who's breathing was beginning to slow down, and weakly held his arm out and pointed at Lloyd.
"You… you are not my son."
Lloyd felt as if his heart had stopped beating upon hearing that sentence. The man he looked up to for most of his life, the guy who he tried to be like for so long just disowned him. He felt further torn after already watching Garmadon die.
"I'm sorry! I didn't want to kill you, it was the prophecy, you know that!"
"I tried to stop the battle from happening!"
"By taking over all of Ninjago!"
"You know I wasn't going to hurt you!"
Lloyd knew Garmadon was right. But there were many other people in Ninjago who would've lost their lives if he had taken over.
"There's more to this world than just me and you, dad–"
"Don't call me dad! I'm not your father!"
With that, blood flew out of his mouth, and he fell limp on the ground, Misako holding his shoulders. His eyes were still open but he was dead.
"Garmadon… Garmadon!" His wife shrieked. She turned back at Lloyd. "Are you happy now!"
"What's wrong with you? You know I had to defeat him! That's why you left me at such a young age!"
"And I should've never come back! Even I tried to prevent this from happening! But you killed him anyway!"
Lloyd felt his face go red. He turned to his sensei. "Uncle, surely you don't believe that–"
"If Garmadon is not your father then I am not your uncle."
"And you're not my son either," Misako chimed in. "So you might as well run away before I let my anger get the best of me."
Lloyd looked at the ninja, Kai in specific. "Come on, guys. Back me up. You know there was no other way."
"But you murdered Garmadon. So brutally," the red ninja replied.
"You didn't even like him, Kai."
"That doesn't mean he deserved to die."
"I think you all need to cool off," Lloyd concluded. "You're all acting irrationally."
"I THINK YOU NEED TO DIE!" Misako screamed, before punching Lloyd in the face with all her power. He stumbled to the ground and felt a trickle of blood coming out of his nose. "GO AWAY!"
Lloyd squeezed his eyes shut and pulled his arms above his head to dodge the next hit or whatever was about to come from Misako. However, rather than a hit, the next thing he felt was someone shaking his body, as if to wake him up. So he opened his eyes.
He saw an old man next to him. It was Garmadon. Then he suddenly remembered that he hadn't died, he had in fact turned back to normal, drained of the evil that once possessed him. His mind had probably decided to mess with him. He noticed that he was lying in a bed, and after taking a look around the room, he realised that he was in Garmadon's monastery. So he fell asleep here and he dreamt the whole thing about getting disowned.
"Dad?" He called out. "What happened? Is it morning already?"
"No," he responded. "But you were crying in your sleep. Is everything alright?"
It was only then that Lloyd felt the drying tears on his face. He suddenly felt mortified. "Yeah, yeah, I was just having a nightmare. I'll go back to sleep now. Sorry for disturbing you."
He didn't expect Garmadon to abruptly hug him. "There's nothing to apologise for. We all get nightmares sometimes, and it's not a surprise you got one the night right after defeating the Overlord." He pulled away from the hug. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Lloyd thought for a while before he gave his answer. "It was stupid. I dreamt that you died instead of turning good again after I defeated the Overlord. The last thing you said was that you weren't my father. Uncle Wu and Mom disowned me too after you died."
Garmadon looked as if he was going to start crying too. "Oh, Lloyd. You know that even if I had died today, I would have been so proud of you. You didn't choose to be the Green Ninja, but you sacrificed your childhood and worked so hard to fulfil your duty."
"I guess so…"
"Anyways, I think you should go back to sleep now. If you ever get bothered by these thoughts again, you have to let me know. Are you okay with being alone again?"
"Yeah, it's fine."
"Okay, then." Garmadon smiled. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
After that, Lloyd didn't get any more nightmares about his father dying. Because he was there for him, and they loved each other very much.
I cringed writing the part when Lloyd was getting disowned because I felt sorry for him. But hey, fanfiction writers are supposed to hurt other characters, right? Lloyd should be thankful it was just a dream.
