As he laid flat on his back on his bed while staring at the ceiling with arms resting behind his head, Harry Potter often asked himself the same question over and over again in his mind.
Why should Harry consider helping the Magical World in Britain against Voldemort?
It was absolutely insane to have a fifteen-year-old kid who have just recently finished taking his O.W.L.s going against a psycho monster who was the worst, yet very powerful, Dark Lord in history, the same Dark Lord who had finally regained his body last year after spending thirteen years as a ghostly wrath and the same Dark Lord who spent an entire year hiding away in the shadows while rebuilding his forces to resume his mission of conquering Britain through fear and widespread panic.
Not once did the Ministry of Magic detected anything unusual happening as they had been ignoring Voldemort's return while deeming Harry as a completely insane person of telling ridiculous lies and stories for attention. They haven't even prepared themselves for the upcoming bloody war that's definitely going to happen in the future, only it's going to be much more bloodier and worse than the first war.
But when Voldemort finally revealed himself, which greatly shaken the entire Magical World to the core, especially Cornelius Fudge, the now heavily disgraced Minister of Magic, they are constantly begging Harry, who was now being dubbed as the chosen one in the Daily Prophet, to be their savior once again. They wanted him to be their only hope of fighting against the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters.
Without Harry Potter, the Magical World is doomed.
Oh, screw that!
Harry didn't even want to be a hero or the chosen one after having a pretty shitty year at Hogwarts during his fifth year. What gave him more reason not to help anyone was the fact they have been making his life an official hell, especially Dolores Umbridge, though he prefers Umbitch because it's a much better name for her since she really is a bitch. She has been making him write lines with a Blood Quill that cuts open the back of his hand every time he receives detentions from her. The lines he kept writing was 'I must not tell lies.'
All Harry wanted was to live out his life like every human being on Earth and have fun, not worry about fighting Dark Lords or dealing with sheer stupidity of wizards and witches.
Despite what many people thought about him, namely Snape, Malfoy and Umbridge, Harry was not dumb or a mediocre wizard. He was actually a powerful, intelligent talented wizard who just doesn't show off his abilities in classes but keeps them a secret. Abuse children can tend to be sneaky, sharp and cunning, which is the reason why the Sorting Hat wanted to put him in Slytherin, not because he had the ability to speak Parseltongue like Voldemort.
Harry puts on a typical Gryffindor mask during the day, but channels his inner Slytherin side in the library when night arrives. He had been doing this ever since the dueling club disaster in second year and it was how he managed to kill the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets, drove off the Dementors away from him in third year and survive the Triwizard Tournament while dueling Voldemort in the graveyard last year. He even did it again during his fifth year and he didn't bother teaching the students how to defend themselves from any kinds of threats in the world.
If Harry was in a different universe, he would've love teaching the students how to defend themselves from any kinds of threats in the world, but not him. He has suffered so much when being raised by the Dursleys who treated him like garbage and after entering the Magical World, the suffering grew very much worse. It made him become jaded, cynical, dark and very cold.
But still, the question remains in Harry's head: Why should he consider helping the Magical World in Britain against Voldemort when they all did the whole year was either slandering his name or making his life an official hell? He could hardly care less what happens to them because it's not really his problem at all.
A sudden thought occurred in Harry's mind, one that made him sit up straight from his bed with eyes growing wide as saucers.
What if Harry just…left the Magical World to its fate and never returned?
The idea was very much tempting and such a good one as well. There was nothing in the Magical World for Harry, which made it more reasonable to leave for good. There were other reasons why he wanted to leave. The first one was he has no friends since he severed ties with Ron and Hermione before the school term began and he wasn't interested developing other friendships, not after seeing the way everyone treated him at Hogwarts the last four years.
The second reason was Harry's family got murdered by Voldemort, who came after him because of a prophecy Sybill Trelawney, the Divination professor, created sixteen years ago. It spoke of a child being destined to defeat the Dark Lord when born at the end of July with an incredible power and becoming marked as his equal after their parents defied him three times.
Harry learned the existence of the prophecy by Dumbledore, who knew about it the whole time since he had been the one who appointed Trelawney to take the Divination position in Hogwarts and didn't bothered to tell him until now. This resulted him becoming very angry before trashing the old wizard's office.
Even right at this moment, Harry felt satisfaction of trashing Dumbledore's office, despite the fact there's a chance it has long since been repaired.
The third and final reason was Harry's godfather, Sirius Black, got killed by Bellatrix Lestrange during the battle in the Ministry of Magic. While they haven't know each other well enough, despite bonding over the summer and winter holidays, Harry still felt a wave of deep sadness inside him as he realized he won't be able to talk to Sirius ever again. He blamed Bellatrix for taking away the person who shows genuine concern and care for him, the first person in existence to ever do that.
Everyone else just doesn't care about Harry or his well-being. They see him as either a little kid or their only hope of fighting against Voldemort.
After thinking about all those reasons he just thought of and remembering the suffering he always kept getting, Harry finally came to a decision. He would leave the Magical World in Britain to its fate and never returned. He'll find somewhere else to live, change both his appearance and looks so that he cannot be recognized and live out his life as a normal human being. He knew his decision of leaving the Magical World was condemning many lives, but he did not give a damn because like he thought before, it's not really his problem.
With the plan of leaving the Magical World in Britain and never returning in mind, Harry quickly got to work of collecting all his belongings, put them in his truck, sneak into Dudley's room to grab some Muggle money to hitch a train ride down to London and silently left the Dursley's house through the back door after covering himself with the Invisibility Cloak. This was to make sure he doesn't get spotted by one of Dumbledore's guard duty members.
"Goodbye, Britain and Magical World," Harry whispered once he was far enough away from the Dursley's house. All he needed to do now was hitch a train ride down to London, head to Gringotts after arriving at the Leaky Cauldron and collect enough money to buy an airplane ticket. He has no idea what country he wants to live in for the rest of his life, but he'll decide that during the train ride. "Don't come crying to me about the war or Voldemort because it's not my problem."
With that piece said, Harry made his way towards the train station, leaving the Magical World to its fate while planning to live out his life as a normal human being.
And done! That's the ending of the story! Harry has given both Britain and the Magical World the finger before leaving to live out his life as a normal human being somewhere else. This was a story I recently came up last night but had been debating on whether or not I should write it. In the end, I decided to write it.
