When the elevator opened up the group spilled out, in this comical fall over because everyone. EVERYONE. Was eyeing Fubuki with distrust.
"What did he do?" Aki inquired with a raised eyebrow as she stood in the shadows of the building.
Aki's group had entered with the foreboding concern regarding the structural integrity seeing 'this'... Natasha with Momoe on her back, and everyone giving Fubuki the dirtiest of looks.
"Made a joke that the elevator was going to drop us to the ground," Junko answered with a sigh as she and the others made their way to the dragons.
"Look everyone has been moody," Fubuki began though Ryo only shook his head.
"A 'joke', such as that..." Ryo began but let hanging for Fubuki to work through.
Regardless of the 'joke' or not, the group was already hustling out to the front doors, with the Dragons standing on either side as a source of protection.
"Its Judai and that Jesse person," Asuka was already recounting the experience she had when she finished shopping.
Everyone stayed quiet as she recounted her nightly routine with the lights and the unexpected arrival of the pair. No one spoke, the Dragons listening while splitting their attention between auditory, listening to Asuka, and visual, keeping an eye out for the pair. Knowing the pair were back and wearing black was unsettling. It was night time, and with the lack of stars or moonlight, everything was naturally darker.
It was fighting blind in a great many ways. Sure Aki had summoned Stardust or Ancient Fairy, and could summon any number of spirits whose very presence imbued light to an area. But not here, not in a building that could easily be dropped on their head just by blowing out the walls. Outside the doors was light, a gentle blue light with with orbs of light drifting down from the sky as motes. Reassuring Asuka's and her group that Stardust and Ancient Fairy were waiting outside for them.
"Well the dragons managed to push the building away from yours as you noticed..." Crow chirped up as they walked. A positive after all the terror the group had faced so far.
"And we're grateful, but where do we go now?" Momoe asked in concern. "It can't be safe here can it?"
"Not since they know you live here," Yusei agreed, 'bringing Carly and them to the condo might be the best bet. With the Crimson Dragon's power our condo is probably the safest from that quartet. But Asuka and Ryo were vehement the last time against staying, even though the lower floors are empty...'
In fact it would be just fine for Carly to move into one floor and Asuka's group to have another...
"Why not move..." Aki offered and Asuka shook her head.
"We can take care of ourselves, we won't be a burden." Asuka countered before Aki could even finish.
"Its not about being a burden!" Aki objected with a shake of her head. "They know you're here. Are you seriously going to hop from one building to another building?"
'I love my baby sister, but Aki is right on this one,' Fubuki thought to himself. Giving him a moment of regret that he had made such a joke in the elevator. Talking now wouldn't exactly endear him to the conversation at this point.
"As much as I would like to say we can handle this," Ryo began, his voice low and introspective. "The city itself would be better served if we were in a centralized location at this point." he raised his hands to silence Asuka's displeasure before he continued. "This isn't a no man's land, there are other people here, people who could very well be killed if we move about. We spoke about the Crimson Dragon, and as much as it hurts to ask them to keep us safe. It would be far better for us to pool our resources."
"Not only that, but Momentum here won't tolerate negative emotions right? Think of how much more fun it would be with us all together!" Kazu offered, instinct made him glance over hard at Momoe and Junko, as well as Natasha and the Spirit. The glance was lost to the darkness, yet Natasha stomped her hoof onto the concrete floor.
"The guys are right on this one. That nice old couple for example, what happens if we move to a building that gets toppled on their store?" Natasha suggested, as pragmatic and logical as it was good natured.
Asukas' thoughts went to the buildings, some lights were pure decoy lights, others were in buildings with residents still... And any further argument that Asuka could have made was silenced when they finally stepped outside.
Basking in the glow of the dragons, she couldn't even see the building that Judai and Jesse tried to knock into their own first hand. Ancient Fairy Dragon wasn't just a glowing presence, she had her shield up and extended with the twins standing below her. In this bubble of light the wall of dust that came from shattered concrete made the building invisible. Rubble tumbling down could still be heard echoing further away, it shook the night, rumbled along the ground.
The building that faced the entrance to their residence was empty, the one directly opposite had occupants.
Asuka's stomach dropped at the realization along with any arguments she may have come up with. "I see your point. I guess when morning comes we can empty out the building and move..."
"I am glad to see you children are safe," Ancient Fairy began as she coiled in her spot, lacking legs and all. Lowering her head a bit she began examining each of the children as they stepped out. "I do not sense anything at the moment for you to be alarmed."
"Power Tool is of the mind that the two boys are fighting the control over them," Stardust mused for his partner. "'Sending a message is louder if signed in blood', that sort of thing. But if that's the case they could have taken down an occupied building. Not that one."
Yusei could only nod in agreement, the wall of cement dust may have obscured his ability to see, but he could map this stuff out in his mind still. His whole plan for a short stay with the twins was beginning to feel more like a long term sojourn. Power Tool was currently scanning the buildings around them.
"Power Tool, once you've finished your scan, I would like you to scan this building for its structural integrity. I need to know if its safe enough for the gang to get their things." Yusei called up to the mechanical dragon.
Said dragon turned its head on a clear joint, each movement sounded an exaggerated grind of metal. In fact out of all the dragons this was the dragon that Yusei had the least interaction with and now that it was here. He took his time assessing what he could of Rua's 'dragon'. Every time it moved a joint there was the sound of creaking or grinding metal. Sounds that would associate with rust or disuse, yet strange for how clean the dragon was.
While it moved in flight with the efficiency of a helicopter or plane it always stayed just a bit lower than the other dragons. The wings straining to make it move in the direction it wanted...
Rua saw no issue, seeing his dragon filled his eyes with so much joy and pride. Yusei didn't have it in him to point out that the dragon was faking it. Faking all of it.
All of Yusei's Spirits moved with ease, regardless of flesh or metal, they moved with silence and none of the exaggerated noise of joints. Pretending, fake, dishonest, Power Tool was clearly playing the role of a less efficient dragon, and Yusei could understand to a degree. Given its connection to Rua and the trauma the boy had endured when he was younger.
Curling, the muscles in Yusei's fingers wanted to curl into a fist. Slam into the jaw of the man who drove the boy to this state. Even now, with his sisters' health better than it had been in years, surrounded by teenagers to look after him. Free to be the child he deserved to be and not the anxious, worrying brother to a sick twin sister... and still Power Tool was hiding.
Still Rua struggled to duel.
"I'm going to need all the spirits that can scan to check the structural integrity of the building. So the group can get their things and we can begin the process of relocating them." Yusei instructed and watched as multiple spirits from his own deck began to manifest.
"Think I should go and get Jack and Carly?" Crow offered as the others gathering around.
"Your deck has a lot of extra hands..." Yusei agreed, thinking on the range of the duel disks he internally winced. "I'm not willing to let you take a risk by using the duel disks to call him. But if Aki can afford to empower them, go."
"You can ride with Power Tool and me!" Rua offered before even the thought of just 'how' Crow would make the trip came up. No rides, only dragons.
"You ok with leaving Ruka here?" Yusei asked, pleased at how the twins were now relaxed with Crows' presence. Martha and the orphans had all been relocated to America along with Crows little brood.
Power Tool lumbered over and extended its shovel like 'hands' and began the process of gathering the pair up. While the other spirits began reporting in on the building.
Nothing was damaged and it was safe for the group to go up, and by the distant sound of it. Momoe had been in the process of cooking at the time of the attack. Everyone began clamoring into the arms or on the backs of their duel spirits, leaving Yusei and Aki with Ruka and the dragons at the bottom of the building.
"Maybe it would be better if we meet up on the roof?" Ruka suggested.
"Except if we go up there. There will be no room for them to get on the backs of their larger spirits..."
Several voices from spirits that didn't manifest into the air around them, strong and deep. Probably one of Yusei's warrior spirits as Aki had few spirits that could speak and their voices weren't so deep. Also Witch had hung back to look after Ryu and Zalinka.
"Oh, you're right," Ruka agreed thoughtfully.

Leaving the protective shield of Ancient Fairy Dragon was a bad idea the moment Crow found himself in that field of dust. He yanked open his vest and shoved Rua's face into his chest, before ripping down his headband over his lower face. Power Tool Dragon's jet sputtered once then suddenly they were thrown back as the dragon rocketed forward.
Ariel control wasn't the best, the dragon swayed from side to side, as the visual presentation just...
So much concrete dust was in the air the scanners started getting jammed. Buildings were looming far later than they should have as the dragon struggled under the dust getting into vents and choking the engine and motors. It swung to the side in the last moment as a building loomed into its view as its audio picked up Ruas' distress.
Agonizing minutes became seconds, as Power Tools' visual sensors finally began to clear up as it looked about. Air quality was slowly improving the further up into open air. Freedom from all the cluttering buildings would also be a large help. Read outs started putting the air quality as acceptable, but the temp was painfully low.
"Hey, you ok Rua?" Crow called down to the child tucked at his chest. He felt boy nod quickly even as he squirmed to try and look out. 'I should have waited or got a headband or something for the kid...'
Power Tool found a nice landing spot on top of a building. It was large, the structural integrity was solid and it settled down to wait while its riders recognized their surroundings.
Which took a moment until Crow took a peek...
The air was clear of dust, he couldn't see behind the dragon, thus the only main light source from the other dragons... But the breeze felt off, like the dragon had taken them out of the downwind aspect of the dust. He slowly lowered his headband and while he could smell the dust, he didn't breath it in.
"Ok, lets get this dust off us before we continue," Crow announced before pulling back from Rua...
The poor kid was a dusty mess from what he could see in the red hued glow of the dragon's electric eyes. Dusty and determined to get it off him as the child began doing his best shaggy dog moment. Shaking at his hair, swatting his clothes, the cement rose up from the kid like a fog and Crow backed away before he did much the same.
"Hey Power Tool, you know where Jack and Carly live right?" Crow asked, when the taste of cement coated his tongue.
Rua looked up at the gagging, sputtering sound out of Crow, 'Is he ok? Or is it safe for me to laugh? He sounds funny...' Then he thought of poor Power Tool and looked up at the two glowing red eyes. "You ok Power Tool? That was a lot of dust and I remember our big brothers talking about dust being bad in machines."
Rua, to be fair, expected a beep as an answer. Maybe a flash of the eyes to give an answer...
He didn't really expect the dragon to open every possible vent it had and proceed to expel all that dust in the biggest explosion of dust ever. Rua wanted to wail at the surprise, but the thought of making the same gagging sounds as Crow turned him off. So he covered his face as quickly as he could while Crow... just stood there and deadpanned his way through dusting the cement off himself.
Again.
As you do.
But he didn't like the amount either, the mechanic in him winced internally at how the dragon probably suffered.
"It might be best if we let Power Tool rest for a bit. This is so much dust, I wouldn't be surprised if he overheated his internal systems trying to just get us this far," Crow advised.
"Ok!" Rua readily agreed as he settled in and sat down in the dragons hands. "Take as much time as you need Power Tool!"
Crow had to smile a bit at that announcement, the boy was super happy to have his dragon around...
"I don't get it, all the dragons except Power Tool are organic, you're telling me five thousand years ago mech dragons were already a thing?" Crow asked as he leaned back, as he worked on Carly's ride. Working the gyro system in for stability was always tricky.
When the person who was supposed to be helping them figure out what the ride was supposed to look like... WOULDN'T MAKE UP HIS MIND, JACK!
"No, it wasn't, its protecting Rua by being in that form." Yusei explained, "given Ancient Fairy's butterfly theme, we figured Power Tool is probably an insect, which Stardust confirmed. A wasp in fact," Yusei had admitted as he worked on the laptop.
"Wouldn't think something as frisky as a wasp, makes me curious about what Rua was like in that past life," Crow thought aloud.
"More quiet than me given Power Tool's level of engagement." Yusei noted, about as close as Crow ever heard Yusei go when he tried to be funny.
"Its a good thing we're this high up. Air is cool, more cleaner, Power Tool should have no problem getting its systems cooled down again. Jacks' also a tough guy when he wants to be, no one will hurt Carly. So we have time," Crow commented before settling down to sit on the dragon's hand.
Rua nodded and walked over before plopping down next to Crow.
"Ne, big brother, what type of dragon do you think might become your partner? Lord Yugi gave you that card after all! Have you thought about it?" Rua asked looking up at the teen.
Causing Crow to blink in surprise before he thought about it. Again.
"Well I mean... Dragons come in all shapes and sizes... sooo..."
