Topaz Tiger didn't complain as he saw the world become illuminated by light. Not hurting innocent people or watching Jesse do such terrible things made that light a blessing really in some respects. The woman's glasses reflected the light as the full moon his head a shadow of a hill or mound of darkness in them. He couldn't see her eyes through that light, but her face was frozen into this state of horror and shock.
Such emotions he and his fellow Gem Beasts had seen far, far too often since Yubel stole Jesse's heart from them.
"Ooooh bad luck."
Sound had been sucked away, the world a silent tomb for Carly when a slip of a dagger pierced the light from above. Planted before Carly, what had appeared as a dagger of darkness expanded into a slender, long staff. It was thrust out, in an arc that came to point at the orb with a commanding sweep. The orb itself rose to the sky the way those little rocket types of fireworks did, slow at first then shooting into the sky with increasing speed.
Carly was giddy at that last minute save, the shadows' hilt was slender, but the 'blade' began to ripple as what appeared as the bulk of the blade revealed itself. It was a long skirt or maybe it was like the coats that Aki wore. The long flowing tail that rippled when the Rose Duelist rushed along.
As the orb of corrupted light rose up into the sky, it illuminated the area in a way it hadn't seen since the black sky. Black shadows shrank into a lovely golden hued coat the tail ruffled in the air as a pale woody staff with a curled top and hovering with an orange orb of its own. Her hair was a bob with slender bat like wings growing out from the sides. Only to be joined by more women.
"Don't press us! All the power in the world can't save you if your fate decides to twist!" One called out from the right and Carly backed up a step in surprise. Deep purple, lovely deep warm reds, her precious fairies came to mind in their adorable rainbow hues. Instinct made her look up at her orbs and her stomach sank into the earth as she realized they were gone.
The orbs were gone, her fairies...
"My... my Fairies! Where are my fairies?!" Panic consumed Carly, Yubel be damned, as she frantically searched hoping that they were just hovering away. Maybe their cords had been severed?
"We couldn't stay fairies forever Carly dear..." A pair of arms slid down her shoulders from behind Carly. Warm wine red maroon coated arms with slender, pale purple hands rested over her while the voice was warm and gentle by her ears. "We told you that you were getting the best luck today."
The poor woman blinked as she squirmed a bit to try and see the speaker, same pale purple skin, there were these large maroon slightly curved triangles that came down from the woman's eyes... But her expression, her eyes, said she knew Carly and her smile was so kind. "En?" It felt impossible, this was a towering woman, slender and elegant with a thick braid of hair hanging behind her head.
The woman smiled proudly, "yes! We weren't going to sleep forever silly!" She drifted back in midair, revealing her maroon two piece and the electric blue body suit with purple gloves and thigh high boots. She... none of them were her adorable little fairies, was one of the elegant and cool women hovered between Carly and Yubel.
Full of confidence and power while poor Carly's brain tried to imagine how they could be her fairies and be cool.
"Fate twisters..." Yubel spat in disgust. Among all the duel spirits those who dealt with fate were some of the nastiest spirits. It wouldn't matter what Yubel threw at them, they would twist fate the way they had with the orb. While God did not bless spirits born with the theme of Fate changing with a great deal 'of' power, they did have enough power to shift luck.
"Be thankful human that 'fate' smiles on you!" Yubel snarled as they left, consumed by their power and returning to Trueman and his games with the Dragons.
'They... fled?' Topaz stood there in stunned disbelief, his gaze sweeping the area looking for the signs of the Spirit. It felt impossible, of all the spirits in the Duel Spirit world, of all the damage Yubel and the others had done, they could be scared of 'fate twisters'? What were they? Could... Could these spirits help them get Jesse back? Topaz Tiger turned study these spirits, hope was a tentative flame in his chest but if they could save Jesse!

"That was incredible," Zalinka breathed in awe where she and Ryu had stood, off a side road and out of breath. Months of seeing Yubel's power and influence cower all save the Dragons and now 'they' were cowered. 'Do we finally have a chance?'
"What's a 'Fate twister'?" Ryu asked between gasps while looking up at Zalinka, "I know there are cards based on fortune telling, duh the Fortune Fairies, but others as well that give a player the ability to see their opponents hand."
"Its not a real term, I think they were just being derogatory. As for their issue, it makes the Fortune Fairies that are with Carly unique. Dark Magician wasn't created by Pegasus, but he did create Sky Scout, sometimes cards appear as signs from Yugi. That Uncle Yugi allowed for a type of spirit to evolve that has the power to manipulate someone's fortune, even slightly..."
Was incredible.
That energy ball should have hit Carly and destroyed her like it destroyed so many other people and things. Laws of forward momentum was not often denied. So watching that massive fireball get flung into the air just by the twist luck got goose and a few duck bumps running up Zalinka's back and arms.
"Carly! Thank Uncle Yugi you're ok!" She called out as she put her hand behind Ryu to help motivate the boy forward.
As they approached the massive tiger faded out of sight, undefeated, probably uncalled yet they disappeared. While the newly arrived Duel Spirits turned to look at them before resuming their focus on Carly. Who had turned into a puddle of sobbing waterworks, she couldn't even decide who to reach out too.
"Oh there we go again, Carly don't cry you've seen us like this!"
"No, remember she got her memories wiped Swee... She doesn't remember us as the Fortune Ladies..."
"And there's the unnecessary but now mandatory back story we have to explain, 'Hikari'!" En growled in announce as Carly desperately began wiping at her glasses. Her tears were sloshing around as she tried to soak them in her shirt so she could see them. Their voices had changed, grown, no more the cute high pitched voices of her small, but determined, fairies. Relief began to consume her as the strength in her legs gave out.
Someone grabbed her, she couldn't see who, but she heard Zalinka and Ryu calling to her and approaching. "My fairies... you're ok... I didn't let you down!" She sobbed as the darkness of the area began closing in on her, even as she fought to see those familiar big round glasses and those grown up hairstyles...
"Carly, silly... we wouldn't leave you..." Ann's voice crooned into her ear, her arms wrapping themselves around the reporter as she eased the woman down. Her purple attire and hair did nothing to help Carly focus, instead she passed out in elation. Which sucked because she wanted to hug the stuffing out of all her fairies.
"All of you ladies look impressive," Ryu noted looking up at the spirits... "That's kind of Uncle Yugi's symbol right? The Eye of Horus...?"
"Not really, his eye is perpendicular to his physical eyes," Zalinka corrected, "though..."
"The third eye is often associated with psychic abilities," Chee elaborated before pushing up her large round glasses back up her nose. Her earthy, sandy tone attire she charged with a bit of magic to help the group see in the darkness. While her fellow Ladies did as well, "sadly Carly's been so caught up in our absence I think our return wore her out."
"Yeah she did run from a tiger," Hu amended proudly, "she's gotten stronger though she doesn't realize it!"

Yubels' arrival had been another flaring of that corrupted light, shot as a laser beam that carved into the ground. It burned away the concrete road and walls, dusting away the pavement while revealing the intense underground works that lead into the main building. The ground had been reinforced with a sheet of metal, suggesting that there was more below.
Not that the quartet cared, the building before them was the one that housed the main Momentum project. It was the source of the worlds' limitless energy, destroy it and the world would be cast back into the dark ages. Reverse it and it would both dig into the earth and destabilize it, but it would also warp the electromagnetic field. Ripping the portals between the Earth and the Duel Spirit world wide open.
Spirits would be able to enter the world, tearing it apart.
Trueman had suggested the value of eliminating Yusei. The Momentum was tied to Yusei still, as the cut off protocols likely were never activated. What with Zero Reverse and the death of Yusei's father.
"Once upon a time, upsetting Fudo would have caused the Momentum to reverse on its own. Yet for whatever reason he's submerged so much of his natural emotional responses I doubt there's much we could do. However; if we can remove him from the equation, his rose priestess will destabilize. It would afford us the same damage now that we could have had created back then, fusing the Light you wield to the portals will consume all who enter it."
Yubel had grown thoughtful at the suggestion, it made sense and would be useful for them... "But why my Light? You who serve Darkness? What do you gain from allowing me to extend my power so far?" at their side, Judai was napping away, leaning against their hip completely disconnected to the world around him.
Jesse was staring off into space nearby.
"When the Light grows stronger, the Darkness grows deeper," Trueman pointed out. "Light and Darkness are two sides of the same coin, when both are corrupted good can not exist."
It would have been nice if Yusei had been one of those typical scientist types. Some little nerd who hid behind his vials and stayed in a lab. Despite appearing harmlessly as a swath of blackness over head it wasn't any form of actual Darkness. It was dark yes, as the color black was, but it wasn't the neutral darkness of a primal source. If he was being bold, and for once he didn't feel it, the darkness felt to have an entity behind it. Something 'that' big though...
Trueman had been momentarily left behind as Yubel went to find the tiger that the priest kept. Sent to hunt and feast on whatever humans the tiger found, it should have been back by now what with several shops being run by elderly people. He could manifest as many copies of himself he needed so there had been no real issue. Outside of how the Marks were protecting the Dragons from his touch. Even the redhead was protected as one of his copies grabbed the human and got rebuffed by a flare of vivid crimson fire.
Light erupted out from something to his right, the noise had been first a piercing sharp 'bang' that shot into his ears deafening him. Pure neutral light that cast away the shadows and darkness in defiance burned into his eyes burning past his eyes and arms that had been thrown up too late to try and protect his vision.
Yubel arrived, their mood already soured made worse when the first thing they got to 'experience' was a flash bang. Fury made them will multiple massive corrupted light globes and began hurling them indiscriminately. Blinded as they were they sent the orbs into burning more pits into the ground with vicious determination.
None of the idiots here had a fate twister at their side, even the Witch wasn't bending fate with her powers! Then they saw a dirty white riding suit and remembered in the back of their mind, 'that one likes the fate twister...' Even if he was protected by the Crimson Dragon to a point, just the ability to hurt him was soothing.
"The one in the white clothes is mine," Yubel barked out as they struggled to really lock on to Jack's presence. White on white was painful yes, the colors were not their comforting corrupted light so there was no way to really use their eyes to lock on. But that was the fun of indiscriminate hurling orbs!
"Great Yubel is back," Crow grumbled into the mic of his duel disk as he watched the strange spirit materialize back.
"They didn't go far, I can say that much; however, I can't tell much just off towards between us and the condo." Aki replied, thoughtless to the need to be close to the mic to be heard easily. Yubel's spirit gave off such a disruptive energy that none of her plants really 'liked' being around the spirit. More than just the danger they posed, and Aki had yet to find the words to describe how her plants 'felt' when trying to convey it. Even Black Rose and Witch had no good words to sum up why everyone disliked Yubel.
"So why are they back and pissed?" Jack rumbled in annoyance as a blast sounded to have come painfully close to him.
"I... don't know but I sense a strong force still in that area..." Aki turned to focus her attention away from the battle when Witch suddenly rushed into her field of view.
"Yusei is going to get mad at us if you get distracted Aki," Witch reminded Aki, but the smile on her lips was so happy. Then without warning Witch shoved an orb in Aki's face showing Carly, Zalinka and Ryu, and just as importantly the spirits with them.
"Everyone! The Fortune Fairies are back!" Aki gave a restrained cheer, almost a rallying cry. "But they're not fairies anymore, they appear to have evolved!"
"What?!" Jack barked out with so much barely restrained fury that Witch dropped the orb and let her magics whisk it away. "What do they look like?! Answer me!"
"Jack, hey what's up?" Crow muttered as Aki, once her wits rejoined her answered dutifully as Jack sounded angry and very upset.
But why?
"Damn it!" Jack growled and over the audio it sounded as though the man had punched something hard earning a worried look from Witch and Aki both.
"Focus Jack," Yusei ordered, his tone was surprisingly supportive, so much so that Aki decided to relax. Yusei knew Jack, and they confided in each other, if Yusei could sound like that. Then Aki would trust that he understood, and would handle, whatever had upset Jack.
"So they're uh grown up? That's like leveling up or evolving right?" Crow asked nervously as he moved to a new position with his crows following him.
"Yes and means they're stronger now..." Aki confirmed, "and given the location Yubel must have run into them, maybe even had a bad encounter given their nature."
"So we might have some serious back up?!" Crow lost his nervousness to his excitement. 'New spirits to see and strong enough to help out? Like are they able to inflict their 'fortunes' on people?' Crow pondered as he dashed from behind a car unwilling to stay near possible explosive vehicles. Trueman, the real one, was staying around the entrance of the facility that held Momentum while Yubel was... well... They looked fixated on something, but not far enough to be Aki from where he last recalled her location... So Jack?
'Huh that's odd, he's pissed about the Fairies growing up and Yubel may be targeting him. But why?'
'Just because they're Ladies not Fairies doesn't mean that Carly died to make it happen Jack. Focus!' Yusei mentally growled to himself. Respecting Jacks' feelings meant not speaking over broadband about the EarthBound Gods. Leaving Yusei to hope that Carly didn't fall again for the Ladies to rise.
