Hi Readers: I hope that you guys enjoyed the first chapter of this new version of The Caseys. While I know that it may seem boring that I've decided to just re-write one of my previous stories, I do not know what else to do anymore. So, I hope that you guys can enjoy it, as well as all of the new stuff I've decided to add in. Thanks again for reading, and let's get back to the story.

Chapter 2: Sylvie

Firehouse 51, Chicago – September 26, 2018 – It was never his original intention to come back to shift, especially since he didn't need to work with him being wealthy and all. However, when he and Gabby spoke about it, they thought that it'd be better for them to just follow the status quo for one reason alone: she needed time to adjust. Adjust to being back in Chicago, adjust to living with Matt once more, and adjust to having to see Sylvie on a regular basis. Right now, what the two of them needed was consistency; and being on the road, or not working at the CFD was the opposite of what they needed. So, after having spoken to each other about it, they came to a decision together that it'd be best if they just take some time here at home. At least, for a couple weeks so that Gabby can get reacclimatized to the climate here in the continental United States. After all, it was much warmer in Puerto Rico, something which Matt already misses; in fact, had he known that it was going to be that warm there, then maybe they would've stayed longer.

Though, that wasn't feasible for two reasons: his leave was only long enough for them to stay for a while, and Gabby wanted to come home. She wanted to come back to their (temporary) home, as that was something else they agreed on: the condo was just a temporary home. With all the drama that's happened there, as well as the bad fights which have happened there; the two of them agreed during their time off that it'd just be best if they found a new place which they can call home. And that sounded perfect, especially since it meant that they could find their dream home in Chicago. After all, it's not like they have a real budget that they have to stick to; though, nobody else knew that yet. It was their secret. The fact that Matt was wealthy after the death of his late grandparents was something that only Gabby knew. Not even Severide knew, and it was going to stay that way. However, the same couldn't be said about Gabby keeping the secret about Sylvie. And that was actually why Gabby was here at the firehouse.

She couldn't wait any longer to talk to Boden, as it was just something she needed to do. And if required, then she would be more than happy to take over for her. But first, she needed to say hi to her best friend. "God, I've missed you. I tried to talk to Matt every once and a while about how you were in Puerto Rico, but he refused to say anything." Nodding, Gabby agreed with Stella. "Yeah, me and him weren't exactly talking that much while I was in Puerto Rico. Bad reception, amongst other things." Stella agreed, only to have Herrmann make his way over to her. "How are you, kiddo?" Going to hug him, Gabby smiled. "I'd be better if I got my Molly's cheques on time. Where's my money, Herrmann?" Herrmann gulped, as he knew that he was owing her some money. "Sorry about that." Gabby agreed with Herrmann, only to see Sylvie walk up to her. "Hi, Gabby." Turning her head, Gabby glared at Sylvie. "We're still married, Sylvie." Sylvie got nervous when Gabby said that. "Thanks for telling me about that Stella." Stella agreed with Gabby.

After all, she wasn't going to stand by and let Sylvie flirt with her best friend's husband. Though, what Stella didn't know is that it was just a ploy to get on his good side; something which Gabby had every intention to reveal, right after she spoke to Sylvie on her own for a moment to warn her. After all, she was a descent human being and needed to let her know that she was back. And that meant that this was her last shift as PIC. "Sylvie, can you go to the hallway for a moment? I'd like to have a word with you." Sylvie looked at Gabby when she said that. "About what? And don't use that tone with me. I'm the PIC here." And that's when Matt spoke up. "And I'm the Captain of this firehouse. Do you really want to go against me, Sylvie? Last time I checked, you're on a fine line after what you did in May." Turning her head when she heard Matt say that, Sylvie got worried. After all, he clearly knew. "You know?" Confused, Kelly spoke up. "Know about what?" Matt took a breath. "I want to talk to Sylvie with Gabby first. Go to the conference room."

Taking a breath, Sylvie agreed as she walked away to go to the conference room; after all, she knew exactly what Matt had to talk to her about. Though, the same couldn't be said for Chief Boden as he came into the common room. "Why do you need to talk to Sylvie in private, Casey?" Turning his head, Matt sighed. "Actually, we need to talk to you and Sylvie alone, if that's possible. However, I can say this…I believe my wife 100%, as I heard it first hand from her when we were in Puerto Rico a few weeks ago. In fact, it's the entire reason why she's here today; because we need to talk to you, Sylvie, and Hatcher about something." And just like clockwork, Hatcher came into the firehouse right when Matt mentioned his name. "So, that's why I was called here. I thought it had something to do about Gabby. Casey, I told you that she's in Puerto Rico, that's all I know." Turning around, Gabby smiled as she looked at Hatcher. "In fact, I'm home now sir." Surprised, Hatcher smiled. "Well, then did you have a good time with the team in Puerto Rico?"

Gabby nodded, as it was a great experience. "I had a fabulous time. It was a great experience for me, but I'm just happy to be home. It's where I'm meant to be. Home, with my loving husband." Gabby said, as she turned her head and smiled at Matt. Meanwhile, he smiled because of how much he loves his wife. "Though, I do need to talk to you about something. I've held this back for a couple months now, and I think it's time that you and the CFD know something about my last shift at the CFD." Boden and Hatcher were both confused when they heard Gabby say that, though that didn't mean that they weren't going to listen. "Guys, listen. I know that you want to see me. But, I just needed to take care of this before anything. I promise, I'll explain everything in a moment. I just…" Walking up behind his wife, Matt placed his hand on her shoulder. "Hey, take a breath and just relax. It's ok. We'll take it easy and explain everything to them afterwards. How about you go talk to Sylvie? I can talk to Hatcher and Boden for you? I know it's hard."

Gabby agreed with her husband, as it was hard to talk about, which is precisely why they agreed that it'd be best if Matt spoke to Boden and Hatcher without her there, as it may get emotional for her. And in order for the complaint to land the way they want it to land, they need to have Matt explain what happened. So, that's precisely what he's going to do: alone with Boden and Hatcher. "Just take it easy as you talk to Sylvie. You can use my office, if you want, Gabby." Gabby agreed, as that was precisely what she was going to do. "Thanks." She said, prior to leaning up to kiss her husband softly. After which, she walked away to get Sylvie and take her to his office, where they would talk about what happened between them. Meanwhile, Boden just looked at Matt as he was utterly confused over what was happening. "Ok. I am so confused over what's happening, and I really hope that you can explain all this to me, Matt." Matt agreed, as he most certainly can. "And I will, once we're in private. I want you guys to hear it first." Both of the chiefs agreed.

After which, Matt turn around and led them away to the briefing room so that he could brief them about what happened between Gabby and Sylvie on their last shift as partners; meanwhile, Gabby went to talk to Sylvie in Matt's office…something which was long overdue, as she was owed an apology for what she did to her. It wasn't right, especially not when she was her PIC at the time.

Casey's Quarters – She had mixed emotions about being in here, as this was the place where she and Matt had the biggest fight of their marriage. Then again, it was all related to her aneurysm; the one which could kill her, if everything went wrong. That is, if it still existed. If there was one benefit of having dealt with the miscarriage in Puerto Rico, it was that she lost her aneurysm….which meant that she could easily get pregnant. And that's precisely what she and Matt were going to try and do now that they were home, as they were more than ready to have a family. But right now, she wasn't thinking about how much sexy time she was going to get with her husband over the next couple of months. Rather, she was thinking about what she had to say to Sylvie, as she was ready to confront her about what she did. And that all started with her asking for an apology. "Well, how long are you going to keep me waiting?" Confused as she turned around in Casey's quarters, Sylvie watched as Gabby closed the door. "What are you talking about?"

Gabby shook her head, as she was surprised that she literally had to spell it out for Sylvie. "Gee, do you really forget what happened on our last shift together?" Sylvie just looked at Gabby when she said that. "Well, let me refresh your memory. When we were on that call, I asked you for the tool. You gave me the wrong tool. And when I called you out on it, you flipped out on me and threw the ambo bag at me." Sylvie got nervous, as she knew that this was getting serious. "And then, you left me to finish the call on my own. Not only was that unprofessional, but it was wrong. Sylvie, listen. You're the PIC here. So, put yourself in my shoes. Let's say Emily did that to you. Would you have tolerated it?" Sylvie shook her head, as she wouldn't have tolerated it whatsoever. "No, I wouldn't have. But you have to understand, I was having a bad day. I was dealing with…" Gabby put her hand up. "I don't want to her anything about a bad day, got it? Because just like you, my life was bad. Hell, it was worse than anybody could imagine." Sylvie was perplexed.

After all, she had no idea how she could know that when she didn't know what she was dealing with; that was, until Gabby told her what was going on that day. "Two days before that shift, me and Matt learned that I had an aneurysm. And it was on an artery that, if I got pregnant and it ruptured, could kill me." Sylvie was horrified when she heard Gabby say that. "Oh god." Gabby agreed with Sylvie. "So, you have no right to say that you were having a bad day. Yes, you were dealing with a death. I was dealing with learning that I may not be able to fulfill my husband's dream. It's always been his dream to be a father, and we've been trying for months to have a baby. Yet, we haven't had any luck. And then, we learned that. So, that's what was going on that day. Yes, I'll admit that I was snappy too. But, I at least tried to put it to the side when we were on calls. And unlike you, I think that I did it pretty well." Sylvie nodded, as she did great when it came to hiding. "Gabby, you did. Had you not told me, then I wouldn't have guessed that you weren't okay."

Gabby agreed with Sylvie, which led to her speaking up. "That's because I'm a professional, and I don't let my personal life affect my job. I do my job as I need to do, and I leave my private stuff at home. Though, I did need to leave for a bit due to the fact that I needed time away from Matt. I just needed to take a break and extract myself from the hard stuff here." Sylvie agreed with Gabby. "Though, I need to tell you that he wasn't doing good while you were gone." Gabby shook her head. "So, that meant that you felt like it was okay for you to try and sleep with him? For you to try and flirt with my husband, when he's married? Sylvie, do you really think that I wouldn't find out that you flirted with him?" Sylvie got nervous. "I thought you weren't coming back." Gabby was surprised. "And you think that's a reason why it's okay to flirt with a married man? Just because you thought I wasn't coming back, you decided that it was okay to flirt with my husband? Well, we're married. And we're going to stay married as we love each other."

Sylvie nodded, well aware that was the case. "Sylvie, what you did was wrong…and I hate to tell you this, but this is much more serious than you think. Now, I still consider you my friend who's allowed to have bad days." Sylvie nodded. "Thanks." Gabby shook her head. "Don't thank me yet, because I was also your PIC that day. And now that you know that I have an aneurysm which could kill me if it bursts, then you have to know that I take what you did very seriously." And it was just then that Sylvie realized where this conversation was headed. "Sylvie, I can't just sweep this under the rug when it's this serious; I could've died if you threw the bag hard enough, causing my aneurysm to burst. Just based on the fact that I was your PIC at the time this happened, I need to report it; hell, I should've reported it a while back. But now that I'm back, then I need to report it because I can't in good conscious keep you on the streets of Chicago. Sylvie, we both know that you would do the same thing if you were in my shoes. You'd report me if I did that to you."

Sylvie sighed, as she knew that was the truth as well. If Gabby threw the ambo bag at her, then she would report her to Boden and Hatcher; so, there was no way that she couldn't expect Gabby to do the same. "Though, Sylvie, this is much more serious. I want to remind you that I was not just your superior, but I'm also Matt's wife. And it's a criminal act to assault an officer's partner. I am Matt's wife, and that means that you assault both your superior, an officer, and a Captain's wife. Those are serious charges. And as your friend, I decided to warn you that I do plan on going forward with my complaint. I have no choice but to do so, and you need to know that. And since I am giving you this warning, I strongly suggest that you get an attorney Sylvie. And not a union attorney, as I am exploring my options when it comes to criminal assault…as what you did may have caused me to miscarry my child." Sylvie was horrified when she heard Gabby say that. "Hold on, you were pregnant when that happened?" Gabby agreed with Sylvie.

After all, she was pregnant when it happened. "I didn't know, and I only found out a couple weeks later. But, yes, I was pregnant, and I ended up miscarrying. I have no clue whether my fight with Matt led to the miscarriage, or if it was you doing what you did. Though, I do believe that it was a combination of both. And due to that, I hope you understand that I will be filing a complaint with the CFD, and I will also be asking them to forward the complaint to the CPD for investigation. Sylvie, I get that you think that this may be extreme since we're friends. And yes, I still consider you my friend. However, what you did was assault. And Matt's mother was assaulted by his dad in the past." Surprised, Sylvie had no idea about that. "Really?" Gabby nodded. "And that was why he was the one that brought up us going to the CPD in the first place, to which I told him that I at least owed you a chance to have advance warning. He agreed on the condition that we still ask them to investigate. Sylvie, Matt takes this seriously. And as his wife, I need to respect his wishes."

Sylvie nodded, as she understood that. "And since he wants me to go to the police and report this, I am going to do just that so that it can be investigated. So, I am going to ask you to please refrain from contacting us. I also ask that you please not come to Molly's." Sylvie was shocked. "Excuse me, but that's…" Gabby then stopped her. "My bar, which I own. The bar which my husband built for me and my friends. As a part-owner of the bar, I have every right to tell you not to come to the bar. And if you're my friend, then you need to respect my decision to ban you from the bar for the time being. At least, until the investigation is complete. Sylvie, this is not up for debate. And I can do this two ways: either you can do it voluntarily and respect my wishes, or I can get a restraining order against you and the bar. And I think we both know that it's much easier if you just respect our wishes." Sylvie agreed, as she got that. "Of course. And Gabby?" Gabby nodded. "I'm sorry." Gabby sighed. "It's going to take a lot more than words to show me that Sylvie."

Gabby said, prior to walking out of Matt's office so that she can go join Matt, Chief Boden, and Chief Hatcher in the briefing room.

Briefing Room – He just finished telling Chiefs Boden and Hatcher, as well as Kelly and Herrmann (who is the new lieutenant on Engine 51) what happened between Gabby and Sylvie, which led to the four of them having a bunch of questions, as they looked at the Captain. "Wow." Kelly said, shocked about what he just heard; only to have Herrmann concur with that, as it was a lot to take in. "And that was all on her last shift?" Matt agreed with Herrmann, as that was precisely what happened between Gabby and Sylvie on her last shift. "And that's only the stuff that happened on shift. I can tell you right now that me and Gabby had a fight later, which was quite heated over having a child." Taking a breath, Matt looked at the four gentlemen in the room, prior to telling them something else. "In fact, that day was so hard on Gabby, that she later learned that she miscarried our child shortly after arriving in Puerto Rico." Herrmann was horrified when he heard Matt say that. "You mean, she was pregnant when she left to go to Puerto Rico?"

Matt nodded, as that was precisely what he was telling him. "Five weeks. A daughter." Kelly just shook his head when he heard Matt say that, as that was horrible; though, the same couldn't be said about the name they chose to name her. "We've decided to name her Angelica Grace Casey." Gabby said, as she came into the briefing room shortly after hearing Matt mention that she was five weeks pregnant with their daughter when she miscarried in Puerto Rico; an action which led Matt to turn his head and look at the woman he loves. "Hey, what are you doing in here? I thought you were going to talk to Sylvie." Gabby nodded, as she did speak to Sylvie. "I'm already done talking to her. And I mentioned that I have every intention to look at all of my options, including criminal." Matt nodded, as he was glad that she was open to that. "Yet, you didn't want to do that at first." Gabby agreed. "You were right when it came to that. What she did was criminal, and we need to look at our options." Matt agreed when Gabby walked up to him.

After which, he wrapped his arm around his wife and smiled as he turned his head; kissing the top of it, he smiled as he was quite happy to have her back in his arms. "You glad that you got a chance to talk to her?" Gabby nodded, as she was glad that she finally got a chance to speak to Sylvie. "It was great for me to get it off my chest. It was precisely what I needed." Matt agreed with his wife as he rubbed her back, only to kiss her softly. "Sorry, still in the reunited mode." Boden smiled. "Are you sure that you even want to be working right now?" Matt smiled. "I didn't think Gabby was coming in, and she said that she just wanted to sleep today. So, I decided to come in. Though, I'm glad that she came in so that we could get this handled. I didn't want to go another day without saying something." Hatcher agreed, as he understood. "For what it's worth Gabby, I need to say this. We may have our differences, but I can assure you that I do not condone this; nor would I want you to have to go through this ever again, as you were the PIC."

Looking up at Matt, Gabby decided to ask him something. "Did you mention what she said when we got back to the firehouse?" Matt then realized that he forgot to mention that. "Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to mention that part." Boden was surprised, as that meant that there was more. "Maybe Gabby can mention it, now that she's here?" Gabby sighed. "After we came back from the call, me and Sylvie had a chat. During the chat where I confronted her about what she did, she said, and I quote: 'if you can't work with me, then maybe you shouldn't ride with me on 61.' Though, I believe that…if I'm not mistaken…I, as the PIC, had tenure at the time." Hatcher agreed, as that was the truth. She had tenure on 61, which meant that she would've stayed on permanently. "Yes, you had tenure and were the permanent paramedic on 61." Gabby agreed with Hatcher. "Though, I am not sure whether I want to come back yet. I am still thinking over my options." Matt agreed, understanding that was the case. "And I'll support your decision."

Boden agreed with Matt, as he'll do the same. "Though, we could use a new PIC today since we're going to send Sylvie home." Hatcher shook his head. "No, I'm going to fire her. I'm sorry Chief Boden, but that was too much. I can't allow criminal acts to go unpunished with the most serious of consequences. Regardless of what happens with her in the criminal system, I do not want a paramedic like her working for me. So, if you want to come back Gabby, then I will approve your return effect immediately." Gabby bit her lip, as she felt like she needed some time. In fact, she was wondering whether she and Matt should go on their trip. "As much as I would like to come back now…me and Matt were thinking about going on a trip, which we were going to talk to you guys about another time." Looking down, Matt agreed. "Are you thinking about moving the trip up?" Gabby sighed as she wrapped her arms around Matt. "I at least want a bit of time so that we can talk about your diagnosis that you just got a couple days ago." Matt sighed.

After all, they did need to talk about that with Boden, who was confused as to what Gabby was talking about. "What diagnosis?" Turning his head, Matt looked at Chief Hatcher. "Chief Hatcher, this doesn't involve you. This is something else. And preferably, I'd rather not share this with you due to the fact that you aren't a close friend or my direct superior." Chief Hatcher agreed, as he could understand that. "Of course. Gabby, I'm going to go take care of this and make sure that we figure things out. And for what it's worth, I'm sorry that this even happened. You did not deserve this, nor does anybody deserve this. And like I said, we may have our differences, but I take this seriously. You were one of my PICs and I do not like the fact that one of my other paramedics almost hurt you. So, for that, I'm truly sorry." Gabby agreed, well aware that he was clearly sorry. "Thanks Chief." Smiling, Chief Hatcher proceeded to shake Gabby's hand, as well as Matt's hand, only to walk out of the briefing room so that they can talk to Chief Boden.

His hand was holding hers quite tight, with their fingers intertwined, due to the fact that Matt was nervous; so nervous, that he didn't even know what he was going to say to Chief Boden and Severide. After all, how do you prepare to tell your best friend and Chief that you have PTSD? Though, that's precisely what Matt has to do right now. "So, you have something to talk to us about?" Matt sighed as he looked at Chief Boden. "Ok. So, this is something I've been meaning to talk to you about. Something I've been noticing of late. And that's about how my mental health has been lately." Looking at his best friend, Severide got nervous. "Man don't tell me that you're suicidal. I can't lose another friend." Matt was horrified when he heard Kelly say that, as that wasn't what he was. He wasn't suicidal, nor did Kelly have to worry about him being suicidal. "I'm not suicidal Kelly. I mean, I just got my wife back. So, how could I be suicidal?" Smiling, Gabby agreed as he most certainly did just get her back. And she was quite happy to be home with Matt.

But rather, this was something else. "Rather, this is about my mental health. More specifically, a new diagnosis I got." Gabby nodded as she rubbed Matt's hand, giving him the strength he needs to tell his best friend. "Recently, I've been diagnosed with PTSD." Horrified when he heard Matt say that, Boden shook his head. "Pardon me?" Matt nodded, as he felt the same way. He was shocked and horrified about the diagnosis. "Believe me, it hit me the same way. I was shocked that I got that diagnosis, and I have no idea what it means for the future. What it means for me and Gabby, or my future here at the CFD. In fact, I truly do not believe I have a future at the CFD." Boden nodded in agreement, as that made sense. "Chief, I've loved working here. And I wished I could work here for the rest of my life, and maybe even have you pass on the torch someday. I just…I don't know if I can do that when I have this diagnosis. It doesn't seem right to work when I have this diagnosis." Boden agreed, as he knew that was true. It wasn't safe for him or his men.

If he had an episode in the middle of a call, he could easily hurt either himself, his fellow firefighters, or the people they were trying to rescue. "Though, I am more than happy to stay on until you find my replacement. That's something I can do for you." Boden shook his head, as that was the last thing he was going to ask him to do when he was quitting to make sure that he was safe. "Matt, I promise you. That's the last thing I would ever ask you to do, when you'd be leaving the CFD so that you can be safe and not worry about your life." Matt nodded, as he knew that was the truth. "Though, I can try and get you a job at OFI if you want." Matt smiled. "I'll be okay. You see, my grandparents died recently and…" Gabby nodded, as she thought it was time for them to know. "Ok. Don't tell anybody. But, it turned out that my dad's parents were quite wealthy." Kelly was surprised. "What?" Matt nodded. "They never liked my mom, so they never wanted anything to do with us; even after she killed my dad and could've had a relationship with me."

Kelly nodded. "However, it turned out that they had money. I have no clue how I never knew, but I didn't. And even though they didn't know me and my sister, they apparently kept us in the will. So, since they just died, me and my sister both inherited around $12.5 Billion." Kelly was shocked. "Sorry, did you just say BILLION, with a B?" Matt nodded, as he was just as shocked as his friend was when he learned the news. "Believe me, I felt the same way when I learned the news. So, it just means that me and Gabby are ok. We don't need to work, and we can figure things out. Hell, we may leave Chicago, or we can stay here. We haven't figured anything out yet, other than the fact that we are going to find a new place to live. Sorry, but I am done with that old condo." Gabby agreed. "We already agreed to move out due to the fact that we had a bad fight there. So, we're going to concentrate on that for a bit. I know, it's crazy and we need to just take some time to figure things out. I hope you both understand that." Boden agreed, as he did understand.

Though, Matt decided to add something on. "Though, I'd be more than happy to finish the shift and come in if you were ever in a pinch when it came to lieutenants. And if you need me to stay on until you have someone new, then I can do that." Boden smiled, as he knew that he could always count on Matt. "I swear, I love the sound of that. However, I think it'd be best if you just stay safe and take it easy. The last thing we need is someone else dying on the sixth anniversary." Matt sighed, as that was also part of his PTSD. "Yeah, about that…Andy's death is part of my PTSD." Shocked as he heard that, Kelly just looked at his friend. "Can we talk as you pack your locker?" Matt nodded, as they most certainly can do that. "Do you mind Gabby?" Gabby shook her head. "Go ahead. I'll go talk to Stella." Matt agreed with his wife as he got up, more than ready to talk to his friend. But first, he moved his hand to the back of her head and smiled as he kissed her softly. "I love you. Maybe we keep this between the four of us and Stella?" Gabby agreed.

After all, that's something she can do as she got up. "See you in a bit. Go talk to Kelly." Matt agreed and smiled as he looked at Kelly, prior to leading him away so that he can go talk to him in the locker room. Meanwhile, Boden asked Gabby to stay. "Gabby, can you stay for a moment? I'd like to talk, if that's ok?" Turning around, Gabby agreed. "Of course, chief. What is it?"

It was now just the paramedic (well, former paramedic) and the Battalion Chief, who was more than ready to have a conversation with his former PIC; one which he, frankly, should've had with her months ago when this first happened. "Gabby, I want to start off my saying this. I truly am sorry for what happened between you and Sylvie. You need to know that." Gabby agreed with Boden, well aware that was the case. "Though, I just need to know. Is there a reason why you didn't feel like you could come to me? Did I do something that made you believe that I wouldn't be on your side?" Gabby was horrified when she heard Boden ask her that question, as that wasn't how she felt at all. "Chief Boden, god. No. Please, don't even think that way. That wasn't the case at all. You know that I trust you. I've always trust you, because I know you. I know you would never do anything to hurt me." Boden agreed with Gabby, as they both knew that was the case. "Chief, I can see it in your eyes that you feel like you're to blame for this." Boden sighed.

After all, that was precisely how he felt. He felt like he had some blame for this due to the fact that he's her battalion chief. Or, he was at the time this took place. "Of course, I blame myself for this, Gabby. You were my PIC, and you were assaulted by your partner. How can I not feel responsible for that, when it's my job to keep you safe?" Sighing, Gabby just knew that there was no way that she could say anything that would change his mind as to whether he's responsible for this or not. "Boden, I love that you feel responsible for this. But, it was my fault that I didn't say anything. And the truth is, it was due to the fact that I was in a bad place in my marriage. I was already leaving Chief Boden. I was leaving the firehouse. And you know me, I'm a team player. Remind me what I did when there was an opening on Ambo 61? I went back to Ambo, even though I was a firefighter." Boden agreed, well aware that was the case. "And I thank you for having done that in the past. It was something you didn't have to do." Gabby smiled, as she knew that.

Though, she wanted to do it. "I may not have needed to, but I wanted it. Sure, I loved being a firefighter; but, Ambo 61 was my home. It was the place where I felt the most comfortable, and it was my home for the longest time. It was where me and Shay had a lot of fun with each other. So, it was my pleasure to go back." Boden agreed, smiling at Gabby. "Though, that doesn't mean that I'm coming back now that there's another opening. Me and Matt need time to relax and take it easy. I want to concentrate on our marriage. Sure, I'm home and that means that we're with each other. But, that doesn't mean that everything is fixed. We still need to work on our marriage, and I believe that's what we need to do right now. That's something me and Matt can control, unlike what you were able to do for me. That was out of your control, and I don't want to hear you blaming yourself for what happened when it was out of your control." Boden smiled as he agreed with Gabby, only to get close to her so that he could hug her this afternoon.

After all, she truly was such a great woman and always made him proud. "I hope you know that I'm proud of you Gabby. You truly are an impeccable medic, and I know that Puerto Rico was lucky to have you. How was it, by the way?" Gabby smiled, as it was a great experience. "It was one of the best experiences I've ever had. It gave me a new look on life, and made me realize just how lucky I am to have this life I have with Matt. How I have an abundance of possibilities, as well as resources at my disposal." Boden snickered, as she most certainly does. "Where are you going first with that inheritance?" Gabby snickered. "Don't tell Matt, but I might be looking at hotels in Paris, France." Boden laughed, as he had a feeling that was going to come up eventually. "I mean, he has to take you there at some point if he has the ability to do so." Gabby agreed, as he most certainly does need to take her there now that he can do just that.

While Gabby and Boden took a month to catch up, Matt and Kelly were also talking he just learned while they were talking in the briefing room. "Matt, for what it's worth, I'm so sorry that you have to deal with all of this. This really isn't fair, for either of you guys. I know that you've always wanted to have kids, so this is just hard." Matt sighed as Kelly said that, well aware that was the case. "I know. But, at the end of the day, what matters is that I still have Gabby in my life. She's the love of my life, and the only woman I really want to be with. There's nobody else for me." Kelly agreed, well aware that was the case. "I can see that, based solely on the look you have when you smile at her. But, I just hate that you had to lose another baby. How are you dealing with it?" Matt sighed. "I just found out while we were in Puerto Rico, so it's still something that I'm processing. I just hate that I wasn't there for Gabby when she needed me. It makes me feel like a failure of a husband. Like I should've gone sooner. That way, I could've learned all of this months beforehand."

Kelly sighed, as that was the last thing he wanted to hear his friend say. "Hey, don't you dare say anything like that. We both know that you're a great husband. Gabby loves you, and she's lucky to have you. May I remind you that she almost didn't have you, since you were engaged to Hallie when you met?" Matt snickered. "Biggest mistake of my life." Kelly was surprised. "Really?" Matt nodded. "I've come to realize that the only reason I proposed to Hallie was due to the fact that we were together for too long, that it was either propose or do nothing. There was no future for us, as she didn't want to have kids." Kelly nodded. "Is that why you dumped her when she left?" Matt nodded. "And it's why I've been beating myself up for years for not seeing what was right under my nose: that Gabby was the only woman for me. And unfortunately, I almost screwed that up forever." Kelly agreed with Matt. "Well, I'm glad that you have a second chance with each other. And I hope that you lean on her when you deal with your PTSD." Matt sighed.

After all, he had a feeling that they were going to touch on this topic. "Man, do you really think that you have PTSD?" Matt nodded, as he does feel like he has PTSD. "I think I've had it for a couple years, if we're being honest. And Kelly, I don't just think I have PTSD, I have a diagnosis. I am diagnosed with PTSD." Kelly nodded when Matt told him that, as that made complete sense. "Do you have any idea when it might have started?" Matt sighed as he looked at him. "There are two events that stick out in my mind." Kelly agreed. "First, my childhood." Kelly shuttered when he heard Matt say that, as he knew precisely what he was talking about: how he was abused and molested by his father. "Yeah, that makes sense." Matt nodded. "And then, Andy." Kelly was surprised. "Ok. I get we were all traumatized by the fact that we lost Andy, but how in the world does that have anything to do with you having PTSD?" Matt sighed, as he knew that this was going to be a hard conversation. "Kelly, he died right in front of me." Kelly then realized that.

After all, that had to be hard. "Kelly, I hate to tell you this, but I had it worse than you. You only had to mourn your friend. You got to do it right away. I had to do other things. I had to go to hearings about how he died, I had to testify about every decision I made. Then, I had to talk to Heather and help her with the boys. I take my responsibilities as their godfather seriously. I had to make sure that the boys were okay, before I could even start grieving. And then, I was also dealing with you and my turbulent relationship with Hallie. Hell, we weren't even engaged anymore." Kelly was surprised. "You should've told me, given me a chance with her." Casey was surprised when he heard Kelly say that. "Excuse me?" Kelly laughed. "I mean, c'mon man. She was gorgeous. Do you really think that I didn't have some sexual attraction to her?" Matt shrugged. "Whatever. All I know is that I don't need to think about that anymore, and I just need to concentrate on my health and marriage." Kelly agreed. "Are you and Gabby going to go to counselling?"

Biting his lip, Matt had no idea how to answer that question as he hasn't spoken to Gabby about it. "Me and Gabby haven't talked about that, so I don't want to talk about it. Hell, just the idea of us having to go to counselling scares me." Kelly nodded, as he understood. "Well, I think you should still look into it for yourself. I heard that doing counselling for PTSD might do you some good." Matt agreed with Kelly. "I think I'll look into that. However, I hope you know that it was never my intention to hide this from you." Surprised that he would even think that way, Kelly was shocked; after all, he had no reason to apologize. "Matt, oh my god. Do you really think that you need to apologize to me for having hid your PTSD from me and the firehouse?"
