Wednesday Addams lay in her bed, the weight of Eugene's death pressing down on her like a shroud. The events of the day had left her feeling more hollow than ever, a void that even the darkness of her room couldn't fill. She closed her eyes, willing herself to sleep, to escape the reality that now seemed so much more unbearable.
When sleep finally took her, it was not the peaceful oblivion she sought. Instead, she found herself standing in a familiar clearing in the forest, the moon casting a ghostly glow over everything. The place where Eugene had been attacked. She felt a presence behind her and turned around, her breath catching in her throat.
There stood Eugene, bathed in an ethereal light, looking as he did before the attack—vibrant, alive, and smiling that endearing, crooked smile.
"Eugene," she whispered, her voice trembling.
"Hey, Wednesday," he said softly, his voice a comforting balm. "I didn't mean to scare you."
He stepped closer and Wednesday took a step backwards. Her usually stoic demeanor cracking as tears welled up in her eyes. "This isn't real. You're not really here."
Eugene's stopped his steps. His smile faded slightly. "I know, but I needed to see you. To say goodbye properly."
Wednesday shook her head, the tears now spilling freely down her pale cheeks. Her eyes stared at the ground, she cannot look at his eyes right now, not after she wasn't able to protect him from the monster.
He reached out, his fingers ghosting over her cheek, wiping away a tear. "I wish I could stay, but I don't have much time. There's something I need to tell you."
She perked up and looked at him, her dark eyes searching his. "What is it?"
He took a deep breath, his expression turning serious. "This is something that during out time together I will never brought up. The thing is, Wednesday…I love you. Ever since you step your foot to the front of the shed that day, I just knew. My crush on Enid was just a cover. I knew you'd never look at me that way, but I couldn't help how I felt."
Wednesday's breath hitched, her heart aching at his words. "Eugene, I… I don't know."
He smiled sadly. "You don't have to say anything. I just needed you to know. You brought light into my life, Wednesday, even if you never realized it. It's ironic that when I confess to you is when I will be leaving this world for eternity. This is maybe my greatest regret, but I'm grateful for every moment I got to spend with you."
She shook her head, her tears falling faster now. "I should have protected you. I should have—"
Eugene gently interrupted her, his voice soothing. "None of this is your fault. You did everything you could. You're the strongest person I know. Don't let my death break you. Use it to find that monster, to make sure no one else gets hurt."
Wednesday nodded, her hands shaking as she reached out to hold his. "I'll find them, Eugene. I promise you, I'll make them pay for what they did to you."
He smiled, his form beginning to fade. "I know you will. Just remember, I'll always be with you. In your heart."
As he disappeared, Wednesday felt a crushing loneliness engulf her. She sank to her knees, the tears flowing unchecked as she whispered into the empty air, "I love you too, Eugene."
When she awoke, the morning sun casting a harsh light into her room, Wednesday felt a steely resolve harden within her. Eugene's words echoed in her mind, a haunting reminder of what she had lost and what she had to do. She wiped the remaining tears from her face and stood up, her expression one of grim determination.
She would not let his death be in vain. She would find the monster, and she would bring justice to Eugene's memory. No matter the cost.
