The battle was over. Laurel Gates, Joseph Crackstone, and Tyler Galpin—the Hyde—had all been defeated. Nevermore Academy was safe once more. Wednesday Addams walked through the now-quiet corridors, exhaustion seeping into her bones. She had done what she set out to do, but the victory felt hollow without Eugene.
In her dorm room, the moonlight cast long shadows across the floor. She lay down on her bed, her body aching from the fight, her mind heavy with thoughts of Eugene. Sleep claimed her quickly, pulling her into its depths.
When she opened her eyes, she found herself in a serene meadow, the air filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers. The sun was shining, a rare sight in her dreams. She looked around, her heart clenching as she saw Eugene standing a few feet away, his usual warm smile gracing his face.
"Eugene," she whispered, her voice breaking.
"Wednesday," he replied softly, stepping closer.
Very out of character of her, she rushed to him, tears streaming down her face. Without hesitation, she threw her arms around him, holding him tightly. He felt solid, real, and she clung to that feeling, not wanting to let go.
"You did it," Eugene said, his voice filled with admiration. "You stopped them."
Wednesday nodded against his shoulder, her tears dampening his shirt. "But it doesn't bring you back."
He pulled back slightly, cupping her face in his hands. "No, it doesn't. But you saved so many others. You did what you had to do, and I'm so proud of you."
She looked up at him, her eyes red and swollen from crying. "I miss you. Every single day."
He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I miss you too, Wednesday."
She nodded, her hands trembling as she held onto him. "I wish I could have saved you."
Eugene's eyes were filled with a sorrowful understanding. "You can't save everyone, Wednesday. You did your best, and that's all anyone could ask for. I don't want you to be haunted by what happened to me."
She swallowed hard, the tears still falling. "It's hard not to be. You meant so much to me, more than I ever realized."
He smiled, a bittersweet expression. "I know. But you need to live, Wednesday. For both of us. Find happiness, even if it's just a little bit."
She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, feeling his presence like a comforting blanket. "I'll try, Eugene. For you."
When she opened her eyes again, the meadow was fading, the edges blurring into darkness. Eugene's form began to dissolve, but his smile remained, a beacon of warmth and love.
"I have to go now," he said softly. "But I'll always be with you, in your dreams and in your heart."
"Goodbye, Eugene," she whispered, her voice breaking.
And with that, he was gone. She woke up, tears staining her pillow, but her heart felt a little lighter. Eugene's words lingered in her mind, a gentle reminder of the love and friendship they had shared.
She sat up, wiping her eyes, and looked out the window at the rising sun. The world outside was still full of darkness and danger, but now, she carried a piece of Eugene's light with her. And that made all the difference.
Wednesday stood, her resolve stronger than ever. She would live, she would fight, and she would remember Eugene. Always.
