Roxy's Reports 14: Faust and Revolver
At Café Matsuo, after the events of Chapter 23, but before Chapter 24...
Yuhiro went downstairs with a bottle of water in his hand, clearly needing the drink due to today's events. Right before he left LINK VRAINS, he promised Yusaku that they would talk about what happened today in the real world. Not only do we need to talk about Rosetta and Ace, Yuhiro thought, as he entered the kitchen, but we also need to talk about Revolver, and the other remaining Knights of Hanoi.
"Yo," Yuhiro said, greeting Roxy and taking the seat at the table beside her.
"What up, my man?" Roxy replied, giving and receiving a fist bump from Yuhiro. "Ready to chat with Fujiki and Kusanagi?"
"Yeah." Roxy then turned on ChatSecure and dialed Café Nagi on FaceTime. Within a few minutes, the screen showed Kusanagi, Yusaku, and Ai on the other end of the feed. The background was the interior of Café Nagi.
"Hey there," Kusanagi said, greeting Yuhiro and Roxy. "Is the feed working?"
"Obviously." Roxy responded. "Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to hear you."
Kusanagi chuckled. "Well, that's good to hear."
"Okay, enough chitter chatter you two!" Ai said, interrupting them. "We got stuff to talk about!"
"Normally, I'd chastise you for being rude Ai," Herald said, emerging from Yuhiro's Duel Disk, "but you're right for once. We need to talk about what happened today."
"Fujiki, did Ace tell you why he was working for the Hanoi?" Yuhiro asked.
"No. Other than telling me that the Hanoi needed Cyberse cards, he didn't say anything else." Playmaker answered. "What about Rosetta, Ace's accomplice?"
"She said that she hunts Cyberse cards because they were responsible for tearing her family apart." Yuhiro recalled, a hand on his chin. "After the duel, she begged me for my help, but before I could do anything, Ace arrived and logged out with her."
"With the Cyberse cards!" Ai added. "How dare the Hanoi steal them for their diabolical plans!"
"You know," Kusanagi said, "other than Revolver, I wonder if there's any other Hanoi members we have to be concerned about."
"I can answer that." Roxy replied, sending the profiles on Infearno and Lord Kazuma to Kusanagi, Yusaku, and Ai. "Here you go."
"Infearno and Lord Kazuma..." Yusaku muttered, reading over the profiles. Kusanagi, who did the same thing, was surprised when he found out what deck Lord Kazuma used.
"Okay. How the hell did this 'Lord Kazuma' acquire the 'Dark Magician' deck?" Kusanagi asked in shock. "Did he steal the only copy or something?"
"We're just as perplexed as you are, Kusanagi." Yuhiro answered, shrugging his shoulders. "But other than Infearno and Lord Kazuma, we also have to be cautious about Revolver. I'm just saying this because I've never dueled him myself."
"Yusaku here dueled Revolver twice. On the same day." Ai pointed out. "So why don't we make a Profile on him to figure out his weaknesses?"
"For once, that's actually a good idea, Ai." Yusaku stated. "A Profile on Revolver can identify his strengths and weaknesses, as well as how best to duel against him."
Roxy squealed in delight upon hearing that. "I knew you'd say that, Fujiki! That's why I prepped a blank Profile page." A blank Profile page appeared on Roxy's laptop. "So, what do we know about Revolver?
"Well, I'll tell you what we don't know." Kusanagi said. "Other than his VRAINS ID, we don't know his real-life identity nor where he is, meaning we can't track him."
As Roxy typed this down, Yuhiro added, "What we do know is that he's the Hanoi's Head Honcho-."
"Who's also a hacker, a Cyberse Killer, and a Cyberse Terrorist." Herald finished. "Or in other words, the one responsible for attacking the Ignis's home five years ago!"
"But at least it's hidden." Ai pointed out, a smile on his face. "After all, if it weren't for little ol' me, the Cyberse World would have been destroyed."
"If you guys heeded Watchman's warning, you all could have escaped." Yuhiro said, as Roxy typed all this down.
"I guess you make a good point there." Ai agreed.
"Say Herald," Yusaku said, "do you know of any other Ignis that listened to Watchman?"
"Only one." Herald answered, thinking. "The Black Ignis."
"I sure do hope he's okay." Ai said.
"Sorry to interrupt this convo," Roxy said, "but I actually have a question for Fujiki."
"Sure. What's up?" Yusaku asked.
"Ai mentioned that you dueled Revolver twice, yes?" Roxy said, to which Yusaku nodded. "In that case, do you recall what deck he used, as well as his ace monsters?"
Yusaku thought it over before responding. "When I dueled Revolver, he used a Dark Dragon deck called 'Rokkets'."
"Rockets? As in 'kaboom'?" Yuhiro asked, as Roxy typed the information down.
"Yes." Yusaku answered. "Revolver's deck focuses on punching a hole through the enemy's defenses before reloading right after. This effect only occurs, however, if they were destroyed by battle or card effect. He also has other Dark Dragon monsters to round out his deck and provide efficiency."
"Yeah." Ai agreed with Yusaku. "And when combined with his two ace monsters, they almost destroyed us. But luckily we won in the end."
As Roxy continued to type the information down, Yuhiro asked, "What ace monsters does Revolver have?"
"If I remember, Revolver has two. Topologic Bomber Dragon, which he got from the Data Storm, and Borreload Dragon."
"WHAT?" Herald shrieked. "Revolver is in possession of a 'Topologic' monster? AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME Ai?!"
"Hey, I didn't know whether you escaped or not, Herald." Ai pointed out. "And it's fine. Only one 'Topologic' monster escaped from Revolver's wrath."
"Yeah, and it was used by him later during your Speed Duel!" Herald added, now worried. "This is bad. This is really bad!"
"Herald. Is everything okay?" Yuhiro asked. "What's so bad about 'Topologic' monsters? Aren't they like other Cyberse monsters?"
"Not exactly." Herald answered, crossing his arms and turning around to look at him. "You know how on Earth, you have your four types of predators?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, in the Cyberse World, the 'Topologic' monsters were at the top." Herald continued. "And only we Ignis can control them. But to see a human like Revolver wield one with his sheer might, it's disturbing."
There was a moment of silence before Yuhiro broke it. "What exactly were Topologic Bomber Dragon's effects?"
"One: If a monster is summoned to any Main Monster Zone it points to, all monsters in the Main Monster Zones are destroyed." Kusanagi answered. "Two: If it battles a monster, after damage calculation, it can inflict damage equal to that monster's attack points."
"So in other words, complete, total destruction..." Roxy muttered, typing in Topologic Bomber Dragon's effects into Revolver's profile. "And what about Revolver's other ace monster?"
"You mean Borreload Dragon?" Ai asked in confirmation, to which Roxy nodded. "Honestly, that monster was a pain in our asses, especially during our Master Duel."
"Borreload Dragon has three effects." Yusaku explained. "One: Neither player can target it with monster effects. Two: Once per turn, it can target one monster on the field and decrease its attack and defense points by 500, which can't be responded to. Three: If it battles an opponents monster, the owner can take control of it by Special Summoning it to their side of the field in a Main Monster Zone Borreload Dragon is pointing to."
"Okay. When you say it like that, it really is a pain in the ass to deal with." Yuhiro agreed with both Ai and Yusaku. "Regardless, I'm glad the both of you took it down in the end."
"But there's something that still perplexes me." Roxy said. "It's Revolver's Skill, Storm Access. Which, may I add, is exactly the same as yours Fujiki."
"We're not sure how Revolver acquired Storm Access." Kusanagi stated. "I talked about it with Yusaku, and he believes the Knights of Hanoi have technology or programs to manipulate Data Material."
"Is that so?" Herald said, as he thought the information over. If Revolver used technology or programs for his Skill, then there's no chance for it to evolve into something greater, he thought. I wonder what the Wind Ignis would think of this. "Anything else about Revolver that we should know about?"
"He may be relentless, and will do whatever it takes to achieve this goal," Yusaku said, "but he does have a sense of honor. Otherwise, he wouldn't have given me his half of the program needed to cure Blue Angel."
"And for a guy that's been chasing me for five long years, he can definitely be relentless." Ai added.
"That's just one example." Kusanagi said. "By the time we found Baira in the real world, she couldn't wake up. Which can only mean that Revolver reprimanded her for good."
Roxy's face went pale as she typed the information down. "Okay then. If you were to give Revolver a grade on my famous spectrum, what would you give him?"
"I'd say we give Revolver the same grade as Yusaku over here." Ai suggested. "After all, we don't know what else Revolver is capable of."
"A grade for someone isn't just about someone's dueling skills, Ai." Herald told him. "It's also about the person in general. I personally think we should give Revolver an S for Savage. While we're not sure what Revolver's capable of, he did lose against Fujiki in their Master Duel. As long as we're prepared, it is possible to defeat him, as demonstrated by Fujiki."
"Once again, Herald makes some good points. Sorry Ai." Yuhiro apologized.
Suddenly, Yusaku remembered something. "Revolver dueled differently during our Speed and Master Duels. In Speed Duels, he prefers to use generic Dark Dragon monsters instead of Rokkets, as they aren't as effective. He prefers Master Duels because it lets him use Link Monsters to the fullest."
"Ah. Because the field is more open and extended in a Master Duel compared to a Speed Duel, where it literally shrinks." Roxy figured out. "Okay. I'm just about finished getting this information down."
"Hold on, Roxy." Herald said to her. "Could you hook Yuhiro's Duel Disk to your laptop? I want to add some comments of my own."
Roxy sighed before relenting. "Very well." She hooked Yuhiro's Duel Disk to her laptop, letting Herald add in his comments to the profile.
"Now all I need is your memory, Ai, from the duels against Revolver." Herald said.
"M-My memory?" Ai repeated. "How will that help?"
"Anything that Revolver said or did during those duels will give us the advantage we need." Herald answered. "We can't leave any stone unturned."
"Okay. Hold on." Soon, there was a ping from Herald's end, indicating that received the information.
"Alright. The profile is complete." Herald announced. He turned to Roxy. "Is it good?"
"Well, 95% of it is me typing it, while you added in what Ai sent you and your thoughts together." Roxy surmised. She shrugged her shoulders. "As long as you didn't change anything major, I think it looks fine." She then turned her attention to Yusaku, Kusanagi, and Ai. "Gentlemen and Ignis. What do you think?"
Roxy then showed them Revolver's Profile, which looked like this:
Name: Unknown
VRAINS ID: Revolver
Other Aliases: Hanoi's Head Honcho (really, Yuhiro? You could have just said Hanoi's leader.)
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Residence: Unknown
Job: Hacker, Hanoi Leader, Cyberse Killer, Cyberse Terrorist (or in other words, the one responsible for attacking my home!)
Deck: Borrel/Rokket/Topologic (with a splash of Dark Dragon monsters)
Ace Monster(s): Topologic Bomber Dragon (a 3000 attack point Link 4 Cyberse Monster that he obtained from the Data Storm. And of all monsters, a 'Topologic' monster. Except by the Ignis, they can't be tamed, yet Revolver can control it. How is that possible? Regardless, the ability to destroy all monsters in the Main Monster Zones and inflict effect damage during battle makes it deadly), Borreload Dragon (a 3000 attack point Link 4 Dragon monster Revolver used during his Master Duel against Fujiki. Not only can it not be targeted by monster effects, it can decrease any monsters attack and defense points by 500, which can't be responded to. It can even steal an opponent's monster for its master.)
Skill: Storm Access (When his life points are 1000 or less, he can obtain a Cyberse Link Monster from a nearby data storm. The stronger and more violent the storm, the stronger the monster. You could say Revolver takes the term big risks equals big rewards to the next level.)
How in the world did Revolver acquire Storm Access? My theory is that the Knights of Hanoi have tech and/or programs that let them manipulate Data Material.
If that's the case, then it's merely a cheap imitation, with no chance of evolving (I wonder what the Wind Ignis would think of this).
LINK VRAINS' History: Attacked Cyberse World 5 years ago, would have succeeded had it not been for Ai disconnecting the world from the net and Watchman's warning. Until the Hanoi is dealt with, it's best that it remains hidden (stay safe, my friends).
Since then, Ai has been on the run from them because only he knows its location (can't blame him for being so fidgety and panicky. Revolver is relentless, and will do anything to achieve his goals, even if it means dragging innocents like Aoi and many others from the Another incident into the fray.
He believes that the Internet is fiction and that real life is what matters. On some extent, he's right, but he doesn't have the right to decide that for others.
However, he does have some honor, as he kept his end of the bargain upon losing against Playmaker (but it's very likely that his loss will motivate him into deleting both Ai and Herald at any cost. Why?).
Based on what Fujiki said, Revolver won't hesitate in erasing his comrades for failure or betrayal considering what happened to Baira and Dancho (Faust probably got erased for failure as well). He'll even erase anyone to stay quiet and under the radar. How the hell did he amass an army and an effective team of lieutenants? He surely doesn't have the charisma to do so.
Duel Grade right now: S (Savage) (The fact that Revolver has a strong and consistent deck, as well as the willingness to complete his goal no matter what, makes him a deadly enemy. If we do encounter Revolver again, it's best to be prepared for anything he can throw at us).
Notes: Revolver's Rokket deck focuses on literally punching a hole in the enemy's defenses through explosions, and they reload right after. Very few weaknesses since Borreload Dragon's effect can't be responded to. His deck also has a variety of Dark dragon monsters to aid him in Link Summoning, and they share a network theme too.
Based on Playmaker's Speed Duel against Revolver, he uses his Dark dragon monsters instead of his rokkets likely because their effects aren't as effective (according to Fujiki, Revolver mentioned that a Master Duel lets both players unleash their full power.)
Him using Topologic Bomber Dragon, a Cyberse monster, means he's willing to fight Cyberse with Cyberse (he claims to be fighting poison with more poison, but it's complete hypocrisy). It adds insult to injury having to fight a Cyberse that he'll likely delete after it's purpose is served.
He might have some connection with Dr. Kogami (definitely something to ask Watchman. After all, he knew Kogami. Perhaps he might know Revolver's identity).
Revolver prefers Master Duels to Speed Duels because it lets him use Link Monsters to the fullest, which is true to an extent.
"That... pretty much sums up Revolver." Yusaku said, looking over Revolver's Profile.
"Yup." Kusanagi agreed with Yusaku. "You could say it has a good portion of Revolver's history."
"I know, a good job right?" Roxy sheepishly said, chuckling in the process. Unfortunately for her, there was an awkward moment of silence immediately after she said that.
"Moving on." Yuhiro said, breaking the awkward silence. "There's still Faust. And considering how you're here Fujiki, I can only assume that you managed to defeat him."
"Obviously." Ai stated. "Although his deck consisting of bugs gave us more trouble than it looked."
"I HOPED YOU MANAGED TO SQUASH ALL OF THEM Ai!" Roxy shouted at the screen. "Because if even one of Faust's bugs remains, you won't hear the end of it from me!"
"AAAAH!" Ai shrieked, retreating into Yusaku's Duel Disk. "Why did you have to do that?"
"It's because Roxy owns a fast-food business, Ai." Kusanagi answered. "Just like me, she has a duty to ensure that the place where customers eat is sanitized and clear of bugs. After all-."
"A single vermin can bring the whole place down, which is why cleanliness is the #1 priority." Roxy finished.
"Can we please get back to the subject at hand?" Yuhiro said, facepalming himself briefly. "Like, for instance, information on Faust?"
"I was able to find Faust's real-life identity." Yusaku answered. "Aso Watanabe. Although there's not much we can do with it, considering that Revolver likely erased him for his failure."
"And if I were to call him something else, it'd be Insect Enthusiast." Ai stated. "That's because his deck is filled with creepy crawlies."
Roxy typed this information down in the new blank profile she opened up. "Considering what you said Ai, that does make sense."
"Why thank you." Ai replied, happy for the compliment.
"I know Faust's deck was made up of Insect monsters," Yuhiro said, "but what exactly was his deck?"
"Motor Worm." Yusaku immediately answered. "Faust's 'Motor Worm' deck focuses on swarming the field with worm tokens to not only Link Summon his ace monster Motor Worm Spread Queen, but to also power it up as well. He can even turn his opponent's monsters into Insect monsters to restrict their plays, while powering him up at the same time."
"And if you're not careful," Ai added, "he'll ensure you can't do anything, as by that time, your field will be completely sealed."
"I'm pretty sure Yusaku here already said that, Ai." Kusanagi pointed out, chuckling in the process.
"A monster that powers itself up the more monsters of the same type that are on the field..." Yuhiro muttered, as Roxy typed the information down. "That is tricky to deal with, but there are always ways to punch through that strategy."
"What about Faust's Skill?" Roxy asked. "Was it difficult to deal with? Surely, it wasn't as bad as Revolver's Storm Access."
"It was different and original, Roxy." Yusaku answered. "Called Double Bite, it lets one Insect monster the user control attack twice during the same Battle Phase. As Faust used Motor Worm Gate, it allowed his monster to attack directly."
"Meaning that, with the right cards, a simple Skill like that can turn deadly." Yuhiro pondered. "I think we have all the information on Faust, don't you agree Roxy?"
"I think so." Roxy agreed with him. "Given the information we discussed, I think we should Faust here an A for Apocalyptic. Just like with Dr. Genome and Baira, he's a strong duelist. However, as long as you destroy his Spell and Trap cards, as well as use generic Link Materials for Link Monsters, then everything will be fine."
"And don't let him get to your head!" Ai pointed out. "He nearly tried to do so with Yusaku here, but luckily, I motivated him to finish with his attack and win the duel!"
"You know, I'm actually curious about what Faust wanted to tell me Ai." Yusaku said. "Are you sure you don't know what Faust said?"
"Of course I'm sure!" Ai replied. "It was the enemy trying to get into your head, and I didn't want that for you."
"Right." Yusaku muttered.
"Anyway," Roxy said, "with that done, it's time for me to present Faust's profile!"
This was what Faust's profile looked like:
Name: Aso Watanabe
VRAINS ID: Faust
Other Aliases: Insect Enthusiast (considering how his deck uses Insect monsters, it makes sense.)
Gender: Male
Age: Mid-late 30's
Residence: Unknown
Job: Hanoi Lieutenant
Deck: Motor Worm (or in this case, an army of flying bugs. Gross.)
Ace Monster(s): Motor Worm Spread Queen (a Link 3 monster that, although weak at first, can get stronger with every Insect monster on the field. Which makes it, in Roxy's words, disgusting.)
And there's a reason for that. Since Roxy is in charge of the family business, a single vermin can bring the whole place down, which is why she makes cleanliness the #1 priority.
Skill: Double Bite (an Insect monster the user controls can attack twice during the same Battle Phase). Although it's a simple Skill, it can be deadly if said monster can attack directly.
LINK VRAINS' History: Along with Dancho, he kidnapped Naoki to lure out Fujiki and Yuhiro. While that part was successful, he ended up losing against Fujiki in a Speed Duel.
Duel Grade right now: A (Apocalyptic) (Just like with Dr. Genome and Baira, he's a strong duelist. If you're not careful, he'll make sure you don't have a field to defend yourself with. Luckily, if you either destroy his Spell or Trap cards, or Link Summon Link Monsters using generic Link Materials, you can counterattack efficiently).
Notes: Faust's 'Motor Worm' deck focuses on swarming the field with worm tokens to not only Link Summon Motor Worm Spread Queen, but to also power up said monster as well. He can even turn his opponent's monsters into Insect monsters to restrict their plays, while powering him up at the same time.
Just before his defeat, he tried to say something to Playmaker regarding Ai, but was interrupted before he could finish. Ai claims that he doesn't know what he's talking about (or does he?).
"The profile describes Faust to the letter." Yuhiro commented, reading it over. "Although I am curious about what Faust wanted to tell Fujiki prior to their duel being concluded."
"Ai, are you 1000% sure you don't know what Faust said?" Herald asked him.
"Do I even have to validate it with you as well?" Ai replied. "I. Don't. Know!"
"Okay, okay. You made your point." Herald conceded.
"Gentlemen and Ignis." Roxy said. "I've enjoyed the chat as always. It was... causal and productive."
"You could say that again." Kusanagi said, laughing.
"If you find out where the Hanoi took the Cyberse cards," Yusaku said, "let us know."
"Will do." Yuhiro agreed, before hanging up. And just like before, he deleted the chat.
"I wonder how we'll get those Cyberse cards back from the Hanoi..." Yuhiro wondered, a hand on his chin.
"We'll figure something out." Roxy assured him. "And we better do it fast. Because if Watchman finds out..."
"I'll be screwed." Yuhiro finished.
"I'm sure you'll have a logical explanation prepared, Yuhiro, for failing to get those Cyberse cards." Herald said, turning to Yuhiro and chuckling.
"Of course I do Herald!" Yuhiro stated, but that simply caused Herald to smirk.
"Right. All because you were focused on helping someone in need."
"Hardy har har." Yuhiro replied, rolling his eyes as Roxy laughed at his misery.
